I REALLY HAVE SAY THAT IT WAS NOT A BADLY WRITTEN BOOK. THE ONE STAR IS BECAUSE I DIDN'T LIKE THE SUBJECT MATTER. IT READ LIKE SOMEONE'S ACTUAL EXPERIENCES, WRITTEN LIKE A PERSONAL JOURNAL. FOR ME IT WAS NOT WHAT I EXPECTED WAAY OVER THE TOP SADNESS, ANGST, ILLNESS'S MENTAL/PHYSICAL, AND FOR SOME REASON A WHOLE LOT OF WATER DRINKING (go figure). THE ENTIRE BOOK WAS LIKE THAT, IT WAS JUST TOO MUCH FOR ME. I GOT THE HEA BUT WAS MENTALLY LEFT WITH A RESIDE OF DEPRESSION. THIS WAS JUST NOT MY KIND OF BOOK, SORRY. ;(
Emotional read. I'm not the biggest fan of stories with real life issues, I do prefer the fairy tale types to be honest. A few errors but an excellent piece of writing ( the hour glass ref was one of my fav ), well worth the read
It started a bit slow in my opinion but picked up the further into it that I read. Simone was one strong female character with a story that was painful to read at times. To be raped and left for dead would destroy anyone yet she keeps on going. I loved that she refused to be a victim. Aidan frustrated the hell out of me but yet I really liked his character. I was totally invested in both of them right from the start probably because although they were both a mess they made a point to try not to hurt others. The secondary characters were great as well and I think that Simone's friend Dan helped make this book a good one.
What an emotionally draining storyline. Ms. Wolfe kept me guessing, just about the time that I thought I had it all figured out she led me in a different direction. I was in tears to the point that I needed a kleenex...quite of few of them actually. I was glad that it included an epilogue but I wished that she would have explained what happened to the rapists and discussed who they were in Simone's life prior to her being brutalized. I also would have liked to read something about how they were caught and their trials etc. Overall I felt that this was a great read and well worth my time. I look forward to reading more from Andrea Wolfe in the future.
I was given a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review :)
I really enjoyed this book. It was nothing like what I expected but it kept me sucked in! I found Simone to be a very interesting character. In the wake of a very traumatic situation I found her to be incredibly strong and insightful. Reading a lot of romance novels I often find the heroines to be weak or annoyingly needy, Simone was none of these things!
When Aiden comes along Simone has no desire to start a relationship with anyone but something about him has her drawn in. I loved that she was the pursuer! Aiden is the cute hipster waiter and 80's band lead singer all rolled into one but there is definitely more than meets the eye! This boy has some major baggage! These two people have both been through some very terrible things and to come out of it happy and in love is amazing. The author deals with some very tough subjects in this book and I found it done in a very realistic way without glamorizing or minimizing any of it. I do love a good HEA :)
I'm giving the book three stars because it held my attention. But, I have read a few of the reviews and I'd have to agree with one in particular. The book was extremely depressive. I am a mental health counselor and it read very much like a personal experience and I expected to read that the author, Andrea Wolfe experienced something similar, or if not first hand, she knew of someone it happened to, which would have be okay, but, I felt like very little hope for Simone and Aiden. Both people experienced traumatic events in their lives, and are suffering from PTSD and quite possibly one is bi-polar. It was hard to not wear my Therapist hat as I read this, and after a while, I was beginning to not take the Psychiatrist seriously. I felt like I could be doing therapy with both of these individuals. I would also have placed a caution on the book, not only that it was for mature audiences, but, it is also of a very heavy and serious content. All that being said, the book wasn't boring and it did hold my attention. I was able to finish it in a day. I will also pass this onto client suffering from a traumatic event.
Where do I begin. I imagined this story was as hard to write as it was to read. I’m assuming it’s fiction but the emotional ride it takes you in is unimaginable. I thought it was slightly cliche in that again there were millionaires involved. This didn’t retract the journey that this couple took.
It was an interesting read and not for the faint hearted
This wasn't good at all. Very very amateur writing. No emotional connection/feeling at all, just a lot of awful dialogue and not a sentence spoken without using the person's name.
First things first, Be Here Now...Blew. My. Mind. Kaboom, it exploded. Okay so the first chapter horrified me and sucked me in completely. It was intense, and just really set things off in a direction that I was not expecting. The blurb does give a great idea into what is going to happen, but it really sucker punched me with what actually happened.
Then, the rest of the story happens and while Simone has every reason to act kind of like a crazy girl when she does, I had another eye opening experience with her meeting Aiden. She acts insane there for a while, but the greatest thing about it is how real life their relationship seems and he doesn't take her crap. I honestly didn't know how they got from point A to point B, because they did not get off on the right foot at all!
Well, things happen that I can't tell you, but Aiden and Simone start seeing each other. Aiden and Simone both have some serious past issues that have been holding them back but Aiden's mystique just changed almost every single time Simone saw him. When it says he has many faces, he does. He is cute hipster guy, confident rocker that leads his band, and really angry son that cannot forgive his father for past hurts. His highs and lows will make you question Simone's sanity more than once, but the good times are good...and that is enough right? ;)
I love when a heroine starts figuring stuff out for herself. Simone starts going back to therapy and that sort of honesty for a character is hard to write sometimes but I loved it. The tables turn in yet another unexpected way with Aiden and I hope that you too will be proud of both of their adult like choices. Maybe there isn't always adult like behavior but when push comes to shove the destructive behavior does take a backseat to realistic hard choices...thank goodness. This book was a seriously good surprise from Andrea Wolfe and I enjoyed it very much!!
I was really excited to read this book. Not only had a got it free on Amazon but it was actually a book I WANTED to read that I got for free! Bonus! I read it right away as soon as it was on my Kindle.
The book started off by drawing me in with Simone and her story. I do enjoy reading New Adult reads that have tragic pasts but I find it is a bit of a double-edged sword because it can sometimes be too much to ask for and I think that this is one of these cases.
Simone drove me up the wall. She started off ok, but her thought process wasn’t what I expected it to be based on previous books that I have read that have a heroine who goes through a similar experience. I think that this caused me to disconnect with her and when I disconnect with the heroine, I tend not to enjoy the book.
And when it wasn’t Simone driving me up the wall, it was Aiden pushing me up higher. I actually think that Simone’s relationship with Aiden and how she acts with him is the main reason I’m not a fan of hers. I just didn’t like Aiden, not even in a pity way: which is awful to say based on his character. He was just too all over the place for me to get a grasp on him. I think I spent a majority of the book wishing she would dump his ass and grow from that experience with him into a stronger person.
That being said, this book did manage to hold my attention and there were a few twists that I really enjoyed. There isn’t much plot other than Simone trying to find herself but that was what I was expecting going into it.
Overall, this book wasn’t what I thought it was going to be. If you enjoy reading books with mature content regarding mental illness and abuse, this is a good read to pick up (or if you are a psychology major who is interested in diagnosing mental illness).

Wow. This one kind of through me a little, but I liked it. I enjoyed the way the author laid out the story. You knew most everything you needed to know about Simone right from the start - which was ugly-cry tragic, by the way. Then Aiden's story was trickled throughout, and honestly ended up shocking me in a few spots - especially toward the end - but in a good way. I was also really impressed with the author's writing style, especially her use of metaphors. I mean, this chick is a metaphor genius! Here are a few little gems for ya...
"I kept my head down, staring at the floor as if I were in some sort of reverse planetarium and the show had just begun."
"I was lost in the sensation, lost in the sea of emotions that overwhelmed my conscious mind. The emotional levee had failed and now I would drown."
"I cycled through my recent mental states like photos in a photo album, deriving whatever I could from each one, remembering, feeling."
See what I mean? Fantastic! And that's just a small sampling. Honestly, the only thing keeping me from giving this one five stars, is that I wasn't super impressed with the dialogue between the characters at times - which is CRAZY because I genuinely did enjoy the story and the writing. But I often found myself left wanting a little more personality in some spots, and it just wasn't there for me. It made it hard to connect to the characters when I really needed to, so I just wish there would have been a little more concentration on dialogue and character development throughout. Other than that, I have zero complaints. I enjoyed the book, and I would most definitely read another novel by this author. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Although this book hit some pretty stuff subjects, it was really hard to get into. Simone had a terrible thing happen to her and she was dealing with it the best way she could. She seemed really mean moody to the world but she had her reasons for being so closed off. Heck I would be too if I was raped and almost killed. However that being said I did have a few problems getting into this story. There is some unnecessary use of the F word and the way it’s used in a sentence was a little off. Also it there were multiple times I wanted to just stop reading the book because it was just not going anywhere for me but I battled through the urge because I am not one to quit. After about 3 quarters or the way we finally got to the underlining issues of both Aiden and Simone and that’s when it started to get better. I wasn’t too sure about what Aiden’s problem was because it didn’t seem to be a big problem and I was glad he finally started to not be such a selfish person and own up to his stuff. He just didn’t do anything for me. I was shocked at how much stuff Simone put up with because he was just such a closed off emotional, moody character. Normally I am all for the broody types that turn out to be the sweet and all that but he just wasn’t sweet or didn’t really do anything for me. I couldn’t connect with him. Simone had been through way more stuff and it just seemed he was complaining and making a big deal over nothing. Don’t get me wrong I was glad that they overcame their problems and got together but it just seemed like a lot for her to go through after what she went through years before. Overall it was a free book so I can’t be too upset with it. But I don’t believe I would recommend this one.

I download quite a few free books and they are not always worth my time. Be Here Now was well worth reading and honestly pulled me into the story so quickly, that I had a hard time putting it down! Simone, a troubled young woman, pulled back from death's door after a traumatic experience; Aiden, a very troubled young man, dealing with his own inner demons and hurtling towards death's door himself on a destructive binge; the family, friends and co-workers who love and protect both of them thrown in as supporting characters and you have the bare bones of this book. However, it is so much more intricate and detailed than that and the stories that are weaved together, are so explosive I was brought to tears several times while holding my breath when it seemed too much to take in. This is a love story with pain and mental turmoil very realistically handled with a satisfying and rewarding conclusion. Almost too painful at times (I felt like I was witness to something too private to watch but couldn't turn away) but I was able to enjoy the journey as it was so well written. Not too many explicit sex scenes but definitely a few worthy of mention in that they were integral to Simone and Aiden's journey. If you have ever dealt with depression or abuse or addiction and understand the processes to overcome them, you will get this story and appreciate the effort to make it as real and authentic as possible. If you have never had to face these things, you will gain a little insight and compassion. Highly recommend this dark coming of age cautionary tale.
Brief Summary Simone's just your average everyday girl trying to get over all the chaos that has become her life. She used to be carefree, funny, and laughing. Now she's got a wall ten feet high and no ones getting in. Raped and left for dead she's getting over it and finally found some hope in Aiden. All men aren't monsters, right? That is ones without a stack of problems...And even though they're both trying to help/fix the other, maybe they wont make it out heartbroken. The Good I really enjoyed how Simone was written and her growth throughout. She had a horrid past and it shows but its not pity me, no she wants other to treat her normal. And having that wall up keeps her from getting hurt again. It was all believable. The Bad Aiden, yes me and Aiden's character didn't not get along well. Honestly I understand where the author was going with it and yes it worked but I think I was just sick of Simone going back to him cause all his issues were just dragging her down and I wanted her to take a breath and leave. Brief Thoughts Oh boy, this book wasn't much of a joy for me. Even though Simone our leading lady was greatly written and so was Aiden. I guess his character was just UGH to the point of me being a bit put off. His drama induced crazy town really was a bit much I wish they could've actually had more good in their relationship? Dunno. Good solid 2 1/2-3 stars for me.
If you know me it is no secret that I like books with damaged people. I had my eye on this book for a while and finally decided to just pick it up and go so I jumped it up the TBR list and went for it. Aiden & Simone are definitely damaged. Although Simone's trama was very harsh it was not rehashed in detail. The way Simone dealt with her trama and the people around her was very interesting. She was closed off but gaining ground. I really liked Daniel although he would be considered her BFF she was hesitant to treat him like one. There were times when I wanted to shout call Daniel but she never did. Aiden was a whole other ball of wax. He was just as secluded as her but for an entirely different reason. The way they came together different. I enjoyed watching each of them change especially Simone. There were times I wanted to shoot Aiden of course but he came around. This story was not like any other I had read. Not in a bad way it was just different. I didn't expect most of what occurred. I really enjoyed this story, it didn't follow the norms which was nice. It had a great ending, I think it was well done. I love epilogues and this one was done really well, I felt complete and happy and not really craving more. Of course I would love more but it was just a fantastic ending.
I found this story interesting. The synopsis started out about a girl that was raped and left for dead. As it turned out, it was way more than that. She had repressed a good portion of what happened that night of her rape and we get glimpses of what happened to her. Then later we learn there was more to the story and about the second girl that was there during her attack. Simone had a lot of issues and her story was hard to handle but the emotional roller coaster was even harder. I am glad that she realized when she needed to get off the ride even though she really did not.
Aiden... Now he is another piece of work. He was dealing with his own demons and his life choices were not the healthiest to him or Simone. His temper, protectiveness, and attitude were all over the place. As much as I loved Aiden and loved how sweet he was towards Simone and patient with her, I hated how he treated her often times.
In the end Simone realized that she needed to heal herself and Aiden needed to do the same. Sometimes the most difficult part or hardest decision is asking for help.
This is a unique telling of a story that I've come across before. Damaged girl meets damaged boy, angst and miscommunications ensue, they realize they're being stupid, HEA. Except here the author seems to have a more refreshing viewpoint of this story.
Simone is a fierce heroine. Yes, she's survived a brutal attack (and really the worst kind of betrayal from the man who is supposed to love you), but she isn't a pathetic, needy mess. She is well aware she has issues and is really just trying to peacefully exist.
Enter Aiden. Honestly, Aiden is a jerk for 90% of the book. He has major anger issues. We see glimpses of the loving, sweet side of Aiden, but those get fewer and further between as the book progresses.
It's how Simone and Aiden work through their problems that made me really like the story. They seemed real, the story seemed honest. Simone in particular was very strong and made her own mental health a priority, which was refreshing.
This wasn't an easy read, it was an emotional one, but recommended.
***I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review!***
I thought that the female protagonist Simone was a seriously tough girl considering her past. So when she falls for Aidan I was a little skeptical of him because he seemed very dark and full of angst, which he was but for good reason. Their relationship seemed like a train wreck waiting to happen. I was pleasantly surprised at how it turned out.
The book was written very well and the story touched on a very serious subject matter and the author did a great job at making that very realistic and it didn't seem like just drama, it felt real and hard like it should have been. In the beginning I was very intrigued by the middle I was wishing the drama would end and the end left me feeling a little light hearted about the story as a whole. I loved that it has a happy ending, no cliff hangers which I'm getting a little tired of these day. Definitely worth the read if you like angsty/romance, which I do :)
an excellent very emotive and powerful read. It was so refreshing to read a HEA that was real, it was not all sweetness and light and money makes everything better kind of story. He couldn't fix her and she couldn't fix him without them fixing themselves first. It was not the predictable sappy story that I've read too much of recently. it was refreshing that the story spanned real time rather than they met on Monday got married by Friday and had a baby on Sunday. I liked the skipping through the weeks and her actually doing nothing in the evening apart from watching Netflix and sleeping, rather than her having cocktail and dancing nights out. It was deeply tragic and I often find females annoying but Simone was so strong and determined to get better. The only downer but that just me was there was not enough of the two of them together. I loved the ending and epilogue not the usual they got married had ten babies all in the course of 5 years lived in a mansion blah blah
This review has spoilers. I would give this book a 2.5 overall and 3 for some plot points. Simone's trauma and revelations about Cassie were great, but it felt glanced over. I guess since during the book we didn't experience her making phone calls and emailing her friend. There was no build up. We just knew it was a friendship that had drifted after a move. With Aiden, you understood the initial attraction but he pushed her away so much I couldn't get that pull where you want them to be together. They dropped emotional bombs on each other, but then they would separate for periods of time or the time they spent together was summarized. It was a lot of fill in the blanks with their relationship. I felt I understood her and Daniel more. Let me put it this way, there was more reasons for them to break up instead of ending up together. We didn't experience more of their happiest or loving moments and I think that is where the book fell short.
Nearly did not finish.... But SO worth it! Second half was very strong writing and concepts! First half needs re-working. It floated around and I almost gave up. There were some responses to comments that were strange and the characters needed a few more key conversations for us to love them (cute nice funny words). HOWEVER...... Once it took flight it soared. Very well done, very interesting. This is the first book (out of about 50) that I have intentionally highlighted excerpts and will now go back and cement them as quotes so I can refer to them. I was borderline after the sample but trust me it improves out of sight. Two* to three* stars for the first half - five* stars for the second.
If you liked this - I think you will also love 'The Lonely' and also 'Escaping Reality'. The second book mentioned is at least two parts - as recommend in my review I would buy the first one and sit on it as the second is not out yet.
This book had some great potential. But the writer couldn't convince me of this story. I think she made a crucial mistake with the trauma Simone endured, being raped and left for dead was apparently almost put behind her in just 2 years. I don't think you can put something behind you like that in just 2 years, some people never recover from that kind of trauma. I felt she was damaged but in comparison with Aidan who has suffered a less drastic youth he was far more crazy and damaged. So to me the focus all the focus on Aidan made no sense. That should have been on Simone. I kept wondering why Simone wanted to be with Aidan since I saw no great qualities in him. I actually felt he was weak for the way he dealt with his issues. And again it made no sense for me that Simone was his rock all the while she suffered so much more in her life.
Intense emotional read. Simone went through one of the hardest things imaginable and came out alive, if not somewhat damaged. Two years after the hardest time of her life she meets Aiden and the connection she feels is indescribable, she just has to get to know him. Even though he feels the same Aiden has his own troubles he's going through in the here and now. Their relationship could be self destructive or they could come out of it better than ever before. Dealing with some emotional subjects I would warn others to be prepaired to read about. This book shows the struggles Simone goes through on her road to a true recovery. Excited to read more from this author. This is a stand alone novel.
I received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review. Simone and Aiden have huge past issues. Simone's are from when she was left for dead after a party, and Aiden's from a father who just didn't care enough. When They try to start a relationship, Aiden issues become a major problem. Simone has been working so hard to get over/ come to terms with what happened in the past, and his issues may take her back to a place she doesn't want to go back to. Will Aiden work through his past so that they can have a healthy relationship, or will Simone let him suck her back into the darkness? This was a very intense and emotional book. Not what I was expecting at all but still very good!
Simone lost her world in a tragic tale that takes a sharp turn at the end of this book. I never saw it coming. This was a great story of love lost and gained. Simone was fumbling through life after moving to Seattle to hide from her past while working at the co-op until Aiden walked in. The bad boy musician with problems of his own. You will find yourself rooting for the characters in this book and getting lost in their world as you read. I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review and I loved it. It's hard to put down. Not as erotic as it could have been, very vanilla but romantic just the same. I would highly recommend as a very quick read.
Simone survived something that would mentally and physically break even the strongest of person. Her survival came at a cost though. She never imagined she would ever feel love again. That was until she met Aiden. She fought her feelings as did he. Neither one wanting to cause the other pain. Each with their own secrets. Their's was a relationship of so many ups and downs it felt like I was on a roller coaster. This story is full of intense subject matter. Although they get their HEA Simone and Aiden deal with a lot of heavy issues so be prepared......
It wasn't bad, it wasn't great. I felt that this was long and drawn out. The storyline was truly fantastic, but the plot took to long to come to a head.. a lot of details were unnecessary, so I did a good bit of skimming... Raped and left for dead by her boyfriend and a group of his friends... Simone left her home to start fresh. She thought she'd remain cold and distant forever - but Aiden happened... he's good for her, but he's toxic....
This was always going to be a difficult read with the subject matter it dealt with. If you're looking for a light, fluffy read then this is not for you. It is full of the angst and despair that the characters go through and it is difficult to see the light at the end of the tunnel for any sort of happiness for Simone and Aiden. This tackled some very sensitive subjects and did so really well, combining the two stories in a very natural well. Life isn't always chocolates and roses.
This book was decent.... Enjoyed the characters & their histories, but I feel like it was missing an essential spark... To me, it wasn't captivating, but it had enough sparkle to keep me interested until the last page.
Other than that, I believe that this author has promise, and I look forward to reading her next book...
This was an excellent book. How this poor girl survived what she did is beyond me. This is the tale of two people coming together when their lives are completely broken. They face down their demons and reunite as better people. It is a very sad story but well worth the read. Not one you want to overlook.
