Eight years ago, life was good for Tate Reilly. Living in Atlanta and attending college, her dream of becoming a doctor was within reach, and she was in love with Ryan Hart. Then one night while Tate slept, Ryan disappeared. No note, no phone call, nothing left of a love she thought would last forever.
Ryan never wanted to leave Tate behind the way he did. The best way to spare Tate the disruption of her bright future with his problems was to make a clean break. So he did the hardest thing he'd ever done—he walked away.
Now Ryan is back in Atlanta, and he has every intention of winning Tate back, no matter what it takes. The heat between them is undeniable, and it’s not long before it melts her resistance and she starts to lose the grip on her heart again.
But time doesn’t always heal all wounds. Sometimes you have to shed more blood to become whole again.
I started reading when I was four, thanks to a babysitter who found out the only way to get me to sit still (and shut up) was to put a book in my hand. By the time I entered kindergarten, I’d blown through just about every Little Golden Book ever printed. Ten years later, much to my mother’s dismay, I found her stash of paperback romance novels. She tried to divert me back to something more chaste by buying me Harlequins, but I still snuck copies of hers when she wasn’t looking. Shanna, The Flame and the Flower, and Fires of Winter will always hold special places in my heart because they introduced me to roguish heroes, headstrong heroines, and the trouble they could get into together.
If you've read the blurb, you'd understand why BURN by Jenny Lyn is such an intriguing short read. Eighty pages worth of pent-up angst, tension and make-up smex? Sign me up! And let me tell you, Tate and Ryan gave us heaping servings of good lovin'. But before they got to that part, there were a lot of scheming from Ryan's part to get Tate back. He knows that he was a jacka$$ for abandoning her eight years ago and he's aware that he can't just saunter back in her life. So to get Tate to cross his side, his game plan is to annoy Tate until she's so exasperated she'll hear him out. I found that plan annoying but totally cute!
Now it's Tate who let me down a little bit. Eight years without a word from Ryan. Eight years wondering what happened, speculating, picking apart every event that led to Ryan poofing out of her life like a ghost. And you gave up the nookie just like that?! Come on girl, you could've milked it and made him work for it. At least squeeze his balls until he confesses! Tate giving in to Ryan right away eased what could've been a tight tension between the two. I would've loved more verbal foreplay and lots of pathetic but funny plotting from Ryan before Tate gave in.
As for Ryan's secret, it's huge, heartbreaking, embarrassing, cruel and messy. No wonder he didn't want Tate to get involved. My only comment about this is I wish Ryan told Tate instead of some babbling friend who doesn't understand privacy and boundaries. This tattle tale blunted the drama and dulled what could've been an epic confrontation between Tate and Ryan. Despite these, BURN is a cool read, quick, romantic, sexy and engaging. It's one of those novellas where I wish it were longer so JLynn can flesh out the characters more, build-up the tension and add more drama to Tate and Ryan's reunion.

Tate Reilly was living the good life eight years ago. She was on top of the world. She was going to school to be a doctor, it was in reach, and she had a boyfriend, Ryan that she was head over heels in love with. Then one night her boyfriend is gone, no note, text or call. Therefore, she throws herself into her schooling and becomes a doctor just life her dream.
Tate is a capable woman at work but when it comes to Ryan, we get to see a different side of her. Tate seems to take what Ryan did to her and not hold it against him, unlike so many out there. I continually got frustrated at Tate because she seems unable to be angry with Ryan and seems to pick up her relationship just where they left it off eight years ago.
Ryan is a hot and sexy sous chef. He is back in Atlanta working in the city’s popular restaurant with a goal of winning back the love of his life, Tate. Ryan does not open up to Tate at first and tell her what she wants, and needs to know. Ryan continually frustrated me because while he did the right thing years ago, he was still a coward by not telling her when he left. I also thought he was a coward by hiding the truth as to why he left from her. It does make me wonder if he really loved her years ago. Ryan and Tate practically burn up the pages when they are together.
The characters in this book were interesting and engaging. I found myself drawn into this story. In fact, I read it in one sitting. However, I wish that this book was more flushed out. At 80 pages, this was a good read. I have not read Ms. Lyn before but I will be on the lookout for more by this author. I hope we get to see Ryan and Tate again in the future because I would love to know how they turn out in the future.
