A new series by best-selling author of Amish Christian Romances, Sarah Price, and Helping Hands Press' own Whoopie Pie Pam Jarrell.
Follow the story of four Amish sisters who run Whoopie Pie Place, the best known bakery outside of Berlin, located in Holmes County, Ohio. Each sister has a secret that influences their lives and, unknowingly, impacts each other. Yet, little by little, the pressure of balancing their responsibilities of their daily lives with their individual secrets becomes harder to manage. Leah, Susan, Lydia, and Sadie need to decide whether or not to confide in each other in order to gain the support of their family.
The Divine Secrets of the Whoopie Pie Sisters is a different type of Amish Christian story. By blending the 25 years experience of living among the Amish from Sarah Price with Pamela Jarrell's extensive 15 years experience interacting and befriending the Amish in Berlin, Ohio, Price and Jarrell team up to give the readers a new type of story that focuses not so much on romance but on friendships and the reality of day-to-day life living among the Amish.

Wow, Sarah Price and Whoopie Pie Pam Jarrell have out done themselves with this delightful book. It was most endearing as they included members of The Whoopie Pie Book Club in the series. These ladies are amazing online friends and I love seeing their names in the book. This is a quick read.....you won't be able to put it down! The ending is a true cliff hanger....I wanted to know more and was mad it ended there. I was anxiously checking to see when Book Two is being released. I found it quite humorous that the Amish women will hang dirty sheets on the line on washday so that they will be the first lady in the community to hang their wash. This book contains many surprising details about the Amish that I have not seen in other fictional Amish stories. I was disappointed however that the book did not come with a Whoopie Pie to eat while reading. I won a copy of this book in a goodreads giveaway hosted by Rosebud. Thank you so much!
This was the type of Amish fiction read that just didn't hold my attention. While I felt for Sadie (especially towards the end), the story just wasn't that interesting to me. I don't know if I will continue the series...
The Divine Secrets of the Whoopie Pie Sisters was written by Sarah Price. This is a book that I purchased awhile ago but finally moved it to the read pile. When I started reading this book I wished I had read it sooner, it is a great book. This book contained all four volumes that make up the story. I was glad I bought the book like this because I was able to keep reading the story and find out the mini mysteries that are combined in the story.
The author gives great description of her characters and let's you know the separate stories of their lives. This book involves four Sisters who have taken on the responsibilities of running a bakery that their mother opened just before she died. The oldest sister had to step in to raise her younger siblings and now all but one sister and brother are married and trying to balance their Amish wifely duties plus run the bakery. When secrets start making themselves known not only is everyone shocked but more stress is added to the family. Can the Sisters keep it together and keep the bakery profitable to help support their families or will unexpected events force them to close? You will be surprised what secrets are being kept.
Since the story seemed to end suddenly I am hoping the author is planning another book to let the readers know what happened to some of the family members. One member is terribly ill and others had problems that weren't resolved.
I was not given a complimentary copy of this book for review. I am submitting my honest review for a book that I highly recommend to those who love reading about the Amish. I have rated this book with five stars for a wonderful story.
Sarah Price and Whoopie Pie Pam Jarrell have joined together to write a five star book. But that shouldn't be a surprise since all their books are five stars.
This book is about Four Amish sisters who owns Whoopie Pie Place,(a bakery that is known far and wide.) These sisters each have their own problems and it is easy to identify with each one.
This story deals with the problems of owning a bakery and it also tells about the four sister's daily lives.
Leah is the oldest and tries to make things run smoothly for the bakery and her sister's lives.
Lydia has lots of illness, but could it because of stress, wanting something so bad that she makes herself sick.
Susie is married but it is not a happy marriage.
Sadie is the youngest (and so far my favorite because Sadie was my grandmother's name) and all is not well with her.
This book makes you realize the Amish are just like us in matters of the heart and family.
I found myself thinking Why are you doing that and why don't you tell someone what is happening?
The only problem with this book was it was Too Short, I wanted to keep reading about these four sisters and their struggles and trumps. Now I am eagerly awaiting Volume 2 and I hope I tempted you to read this book. You wouldn't be disappointed unless it is that you have to wait for volume 2 but I think it will be out soon.
The Divine Secrets of The Whoopie Pie Sisters book one, An Amish Christian Trilogy by Sarah Price
The Divine Secrets of The Whoopie Pie Sisters is about four sisters who own and operate a bakery in Holmes County Ohio and their teenage brother Tobias. Leah, Susan, Lydia and Sadie each have their own area in the bakery they excel in. However, secrets in their personal home lives also impact their working together at the bakery causing mounting tensions. Add to this it appears Tobias is sick again and maybe even his youngest sister. Can they confide in each other and offer support before it is too late? As the story unfolds we see not only family tensions, but health problems and other daily life problems. I enjoyed the book once I figured out who was who. However, I found the bickering among the sisters a little tiring without any resolutions in sight.
I liked this trilogy, but I did not love it. Price's characters are engaging individuals who deserve better and I liked the fact that the sisters were working together in the bakery. The descriptions of food and recipes were great, too. However, there was melancholy and true sadness in the hearts of the characters that I was just not sure was ever resolved. Why don't the sisters just talk to one another to share their problems, ask God for help, and stop worrying so much? This was one of the few Amish novels I have read where worry and gossip seemed to take over prayer, at least for awhile. I also did not like the abrupt ending, but am interested enough in this series to find the the sequel, Whoopie Pie Place, where hopefully some resolution takes place. The sisters work hard and have made a special business for themselves and deserve to all find the happiness they deserve.
This was okay for me. I enjoyed the character development of the sisters and the setting of the family bakery was nice. It will be interesting to see where the story goes from here.
Leah has taken over running the bakery with her sisters since her parents untimely death. She has also helped raise her younger siblings. Things are starting to take off when they two big orders near the end of the tourist season. There is a glimpse behind each of the sister's lives and the struggles they try and deal with along with keeping the business operating.
This book is the first of a sereis and basically an introduction to the main characters of the series. I dont know much about the Amish society, except what is portrayed in movies. It was refreshing to read of a comunity, which I had a preconceived notion of being idyllic and wholesome, that they face similar problems as is common here, eg relationships, opposing cultures, health, financial and resource hardships etc.. I lok forward to reading more in this series to see how these problems are addressed and possibly solved.
Each sister is struggling with something different within their life. It's a matter of how each one handles that struggle, that challenge. They each have the same thing in common, they each have their faith, God, family, and each other.
I thought this was a fun book to read and I did fall in love with the sisters. I thought the store was a great way to help develop their individual characters and to let me know that the Amish are real too, that they also have regular relationships within their families. Glad that this story did not dwell so much on a love story, but the relationships with the sisters and the way that they interact with each other. A relaxing read.....the story did leave me wanting to find out more....I guess that is why there is a part two......
I really liked this book. Now and then I like to whip through a good Amish Fiction. The reason I liked this one so well is that it explored family situations which are probably often covered up in the Amish community....i.e., a wife actually leaving dishes in the sink at night, feeling pressure to have her laundry hung on the line before the others (and hanging dirty laundry if she fails....ha ha loved this part) and dealing with an angry and verbally abusive husband. I'm excited for the next one.
An Amish story about an Amish Bakery operated by four sisters. It is a successful business, but each sisters' personal problems and unraveling secrets tend to cause mounting tension and stress. It is interesting to note, that their personal problems are not any different than any other culture. Find out how the Amish culture addresses them and how they solved them. This is a definite 5 star book! It held my interest, this book was hard to put down! Looking forward to reading the next book in the series!
It's nice to read Amish fiction that isn't a romance, and that isn't about teenagers! I'm not going to write a synopsis, but will say that the story includes family tensions, health issues and other true-to-life situations with which most people can relate. It does this while giving a pretty accurate (as far as I know) portrayal of some issues within Amish communities. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series....
This book was just ok...mostly because it just stopped. There was no ending or winding down - almost like this is an ad for the next book?! Everything was just ok, with nothing being spectacular, but I was enjoying it well enough. Then, it felt like those cartoons and sitcoms when we were kids and a big "to be continued...." popped on the screen. Nothing happened in this book except for character development. I'm glad it was free on Amazon or I'd really be angry.
I loved this book, and think it is the best yet. Although I am an only child, I got a very real picture of the four sisters. It will be intereting to find out what happens to them. I loved the descriptions and wish I could taste some of the whoopie pies and bread. I am from Cincinnati, and don't live too far from Childrens' Hospital, so it was nice to see the reference.
I love this book as much as I love the author, Sarah Price. Her books are my stress-busters. This story made me wish for sisters (I don't have one, got 3 brothers and it's a different story). Anyway, book two is out and I'm currently reading it.
I liked this book but it definitely leaves you hanging at the end. If you don't read the next book in the series you wont know what happens to the characters. This book was also very short, more like a novella.
I enjoyed this book. I didn't care for the ending that left me hanging. You have to commit yourself to the whole series if you are going to read this. I prefer closure at the end of a book, and this book didn't have any.
I loved this first book in this series. It tells of several sisters of the amish sect, who have inherited a bakery. It tells of their day to day trials as a family and as working companions. I want to read the number 2 book soon.
Well, it was written well. It's not you it's me. I needed something fluffy and this was more tense. All four girls were experiencing life changing problems and I just didn't have the energy to spare. So if you want a lot of drama, go for it.
A nice, shorter story about Amish sisters who run a bakery. Can be read very quickly. The story left me hanging and I can't wait to read the next book in the series!
