When Eden Carver, Iowa farm girl turned NY actress, decides to seduce the sexy cop next door, she begins to wonder if she’s bitten off more than she can chew.

But when she asks him to help her rehearse lines, and things go from simmer to boil, he finds himself doing the one thing he swore he’d never do. TWO OFFICER STARS.

"I wanted you to know the real me, because you're the man I want in my life"

description

If a pint sized, sizzling novella is what you looking for then this short friends to lovers story may just be the fix that you need. As for my tastes I needed more to make it more rememberable, that's not to say that I didn't have fun reading this authors work I just needed more to make this book stand out as a winning hour spent reading.

When good girl actress Eden Carver decides to take matters in her own hands her next door neighbour and best friend doesn't know what's hit him. Eden has desired more than just friendship with her sexy friend for more than she would like to admit and with a secret fetish for a man in uniform she is more than happy to let out her wild side with officer Jay Bennett. One night of sizzling seduction isn't quite enough for this couple but they both have to take the plunge and work their way out of the friend zone that they find themselves stuck in.

Final thoughts ...
Cathryn Fox is author that I'd like to read more from, and next time I'm hoping for a lengthier novel. 'Hold me down hard' was likeable enough I just needed that certain something more. But on the plus side these 51 or so pages would be perfect for reading on the go or when you have a spare hour to enjoy a sexy, friends who desire more story. Hoping this will win readers over more than it did for me. Enjoy ... Kisses.

This was a 51 page novella and a quick, though entirely forgettable erotic read.

The set up is this:

Eden Carver is a farm girl from Iowa that is perceived as a good girl, though she harbors a darker kinky side with a fetish for a man in uniform, handcuffs included (lol), and an intense attraction for her neighbor Jay, a cop (how convenient).

Jay in turn likes his sex dirty and lusts after Eden, but thinks she's way too innocent and good for the likes of him. Oh, and he also has this need to protect her from his dangerous life as a cop(meh).

In order to get Jay's attention, Eden, an actress that on occasion asks him to help her practice her lines, writes a script to help seduce him. Cue damsel in distress, hot cop rescues her, they have sex.

Then we have the typical "misunderstanding", after which they talk, then they make up and THE END!

I found the whole set up of this to be a little cheesy and a tad too predictably boring. There was nothing original about it for me.

Good girl harboring bad girl fetishes. Bad boy thinking the good girl is too innocent for his darker lusts. Been there, read that, got the T-shirt. Luckily this was a quicky, so I was able to finish it without too many eye rolls.

I am not a fan of novellas. They are just way to quick for me to get any sort of semblance for the characters or to even get a chance to care for them.

I do enjoy Cathryn Fox's writing style, and have read several books from her in the past. But such short novellas are just not my cuppa.

If you're looking for a super quick, though predictable, erotic read, maybe this would work for you. For me, it was just way too short. Perhaps if Ms. Fox writes a longer book in the future, I'd give it a shot.

So 3 fluffy meh stars from me

3 - So risky. So outrageous. So downright naughty. Stars!

Hold Me Down Hard, is a book that falls into my 'Lunchtime Special' category, it is a quick, sexy read, and I ploughed through it whilst on my lunch-break at work... Be warned it is sexy-hot, and you may find you need to turn up the air-con to cool yourself down!

Eden was pure temptation. And a man could only resist temptation for so long.

Jay and Eden have been neighbours for a few years and while both are attracted to each other, they have held back due to concerns over their sexual compatibility.

All he wanted to do was give her a nice long spanking, then fuck her hard.

This isn't an epic love story, what it is, is two people who are attracted to each other finally taking the steps to get down and dirty together. Enjoyable whilst you are reading it, and a little cheesy in parts. Definitely a good lunchtime treat though!

3 stars!
This was a quickie! Literally! I did enjoy it although it was way too short for my liking! It was like I was just reading an erotic scene from a normal sized book.

Jay Bennett

Jay Bennett is a police officer who lives next door to Eden in the same building. He's attracted to Eden but will not act on it, because Eden seems like an innocent to him. He's a rough and gritty guy but around Eden he's protective instincts surface. He's surprised when Eden knocks on his door frantic.

Eden Carver

Eden is very aware of her neighbour and his good looks. But she's too scared he'll judge her for the kind stuff she craves in bed. Eden is a farm girl, but her personality is the complete opposite. Her friends convince her to do something about her feelings and she approaches Jay.

Sparks fly, the sex is steamy and risque and they both learn each others secrets

I would say this is a nice read if you are at a doctors appointment, and the waiting room is perhaps a little busy! Although with the steamy scenes in this book the doctor might think you're running a temperature!

Sexy blonde Iowa farm girl (Eden) turned NYC actress wants more from next-door-neighbot/best friend NYC cop (Jay). The problem is, she think she'll scare him off if he knew all her secret, raunchy fantasies.

Hunky cop Jay would love more from his sexy, girl-next-door neighbor than to just run lines with her. But he's afraid he'll ruin the friendship if he shows her his dark, sexual side. After all, she's just a sweet, naive farm girl, right?

And then Eve devises a plan to seduce...will he be able to resist her?

Waay hot, simple, and enjoyable, but too short! I'd love to see it as a full length story. 4 stars

Once again I'm stepping out of my comfort zone with this book. Yes you have noticed that I neither read a lot of adult books nor review the short stories. Well as you can see just now I'm doing both. It's not that I don't like these short stories it's just I don't know how to feel about them. They're different form the novels as you can't get the full background with these. So I hope that the author, publishers and tour organizer won't mind the lack of rating here. It's not that I don't like the story or anything it's just that I don't know how to rate this.

Back to the story now. You get to meet Eden here as one narrator and her neighbor Jay as the second one. Yes they have been friends and next-door-neighbors for three years and both of them wanted more. Only neither wanted to lose the friendship they had cause if they took step forward that could possibly ruin everything they had. But Eden is the brave one here and her friends invent the perfect plan to move things forward. I must say nice played. But the insecurity is still there and it's a big step to make.

If I had to describe this book in few words they would be hot, fast-read and interesting. This book is perfect when you need something hot to entertain you, cause it's only 50 pages long.

This sure was a lot shorter than I was expecting.
This book was about 50 pages of two friends, one who wants to get it on, and the other that is resisting, working through the transition from friends to lovers.
I usually can really like a book like this, but unfortunately, this time, I just couldn't relate to the characters. The language between the two seemed rigid. The erotic side of this book, which lets face it, is usually what I live for in a book, seemed to let this story down for me. I didn't feel it, however this again could have something to do with my inability to relate to the characters.
It was a super quick and easy to read book, that would be suitable for a lunch time break. Give it ago, because all my problems with this one were simply personal ones.

3 Love truncheon stars

Eden Carver has been hankering after her neighbour and best friend, Jay Bennett, for quite some time now. She savours the extended time they spend together, and wishes they could cross the line, getting a little more up close and personal. Being an actress, she devises a plan to ensure any role playing this time will put them on the right path.

Jay Bennett is a cop, who would love to see his beautiful, naive, farm girl neighbour sporting his handcuffs, but wouldn't dare to do more than dream it. When he assists Eden in learning her latest lines, he finds himself in dangerous territory, and totally out of his comfort zone.

This was a very short, steamy read, that lacked the hook needed to gain any character attachment. I found the dialogue uneventful and cheesy, making it a fairly forgettable read for me.

IT'S TOO DAMNED SHORT!
IT'S TOO DAMNED SHORT!

::With thanks and apologies to Cole Porter::

I bought this on Amazon for 99 cents - so I'm not expecting War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy War and Peace, or even Terry Brooks's Doorstops of Shannara. The problem is, Hold Me Down Hard isn't a romance novel, it's isn't even a novella - it's a "novelette" or, as I like to call it, a "short story that got away from its author". Given what actually happens, this story should be about one-fourth as long as it is - given the backstory the author puts into it, it should be at least twice as long.

So, here's what we got: Nice-Girl Actress Eden has the hots for NYPD Officer Jay who's her neighbor, but Jay's Friendzoned her almost from the word go. Unbeknownst to Eden, Jay's head-over-heels for her, but his sexual desires are on the Dom Side of the Force....

"You Underestimate the Power of The Dom Side...."

Of course, what Jay doesn't know is that Eden's own sexual desires run to being sexually submissive - because otherwise, this Short Story on Human Growth Hormone book would be even shorter! So.... at the prodding of her actress friends (I assume, since there's not enough time to develop any characters other than Eden and Jay), Eden concocts a scene she needs to "rehearse" which touches on all the things she fantasizes Jay doing to her - sex with a cop in uniform, bondage with handcuffs, ass-spanking, nipple play, you know - and tells Jay she needs him as a scene partner.

So, Basically, Takashi Miike's AUDITION - Only Without All the Sick&Crazy

One of the problems is that, for a book that's only four chapters long, a large part of one of those chapters is Eden's attempts to ! There's also which takes up time this story really doesn't have time for before the inevitable HEA....

If the story had been longer, and had developed its background characters more, so that the main events didn't protrude like the The Buffalo The Snake Swallowed, this would have been at least a Three Out of Five Story - both Eden and Jay, from what we see of them, are an engaging pair who you want to see get together as Loving Dom and adoring subbegirl. But as it stands, it needs at least another rewriting pass, and the author giving herself permission to go longer....

So we can watch Jay do more of THIS to Eden! :)

*sigh* Here you have two adults, each with appallingly bad communication skills.

If they were teenagers I'd have believed it more, but from two adults, no. I didn't buy their reasons for not pursuing each other before.

The old 'I don't want to lose your friendship' doesn't work here because how can these two possibly be best friends given their struggle with expressing their feelings and being open with each other? And their personal issues were just too illogical and weak.

I especially didn't believe in Jay, a dominating character, a man of the law who would presumably have excellent communication and observational skills, who near the beginning considered finding a woman to scratch his itch so that he doesn't corrupt Eden....there's just no way I can believe he would be unsure how to proceed with a girl he wanted. It didn't make any sense to me.

My biggest annoyance, and it's one that really gets my goat, is the promise of dark and dirty desires that just don't deliver. Jesus, what a frickin' tease!

There's some good writing here and a fairly good premise, but this was entirely forgettable. In fact, I think I started to forget it whilst still reading it.

Short review as it's a short novella; at just over 50 pages I polished it off in one sitting. Using the well loved trope of friends to lovers, it is absolutely crammed with sexy shenanigans and this little book should come with it's own weather warning - scorching hot.

Whilst it's short length did make it difficult to become completely invested in Jay and Eden as characters, they were likeable and had a sizzling chemistry. Some of the choices of phrases the author used were a little smirk inducing, but on the whole I enjoyed the passion and the intimacy.

What do you get when you have a sweet 'naive' Iowa farm girl and add in a super sexy NYC cop? Some seriously sexy reading material! ;) Eden came to NY to follow her dreams in acting. She also has a major thing for her best friend and neighbor Jay. As a cop, he sees some pretty bad stuff and wants to shield Eden from it. She's getting tired of lusting from afar, so with the help of some girlfriends she comes up with a sexy script to run lines with Jay! Can we say H.O.T.!! Cathryn Fox is one of my favorite go-to authors for a super hot quick read! She has never let me down and with Hold Me Down Hard, the trend continues! :-)

Grade: D - nearly a DNF

“Actually, these lines seem a bit cheesy.”

I had to choose that quote. How could I not choose that quote? I requested this solely for the “naive Iowa farm girl” bit in the blurb, and the nicest thing I have to say is that it’s exactly what I expected.

This short story (a very strange choice for Entangled’s Flirt line) is one erotica cliché after another (except a billionaire CEO), with some eye-rolling attempts at ridiculously superficial characterization.

Only because I've read worse.

But tbh? This was so not my cuppa...

The girl came across as desperate, pathetic and really dumb, her friends were stupid and annoying and the hero kept calling his dick "Little Jay".
And then they fucked.
A lot.
The end.

Eden Carver has a secret crush on her cop neighbor and best friend next door, Jay Bennett. The one time she revealed her secret desires for rougher sex that included spankings and bondage, the guy left calling her some not so nice things. She wants to get closer to Jay, but he keeps his work life to himself and only treats her like a little sister. Well, that time for that is about to end.

Jay Bennett lost his sister when they were teens and now spends his days a cop fighting the same crime that touched her. Eden is a breath of fresh air to his life that he doesn’t want to sully up with his dark desires to spank, tie up and make love roughly.

Deciding she has had enough, Eden, a budding actress in NY from Iowa, writes a script to practice lines with Jay. The lines lead them to bed, where both of them have secrets to reveal.

This isn’t a terribly long book and the premise was kind of cute, I just didn’t buy Eden so much. She was this young little thing from Iowa who likes rough sex? Well, that wasn’t so unbelievable I guess. I just didn’t like how the scenes played out. Then when the story was over, I wanted more. Usually that is a good sign, but in this case, I just thought it was too quick of a book and needed more closure, not that I wanted to continue reading more in another book.

This story is just a beginning of a friends to lovers relationship. While cute, it lacked something I can’t put my finger on totally. Maybe it was Eden seeming to be too young for Jay. I don’t mean in age, but maturity. Jay has some darker issues underneath that I think might bite them later down the road.

While BDSM is mentioned, you never really see any BDSM scenes, so I can’t say this is a BDSM book.
Overall, I enjoyed it, but wanted more depth to the characters.

Multipublished author, Cathryn Fox has another hit on her hands with her debut release with Entangled Publishing!

Friends. What would we do without them? Or in Eden and Jay's case, what wouldn't we like to do with them?

I'm not going to give you another rundown on the plot, you've read that several times over and they've all hit the nail right on the head. This short, sexy read has it all. Great plot, a touching backstory for Jay--the super protective smoking hot cop next door, Eden, the actress with a secret wish to break free of her good girl image and get her kink on, Jay's frustration at lusting after his best friend while unable to make his move for fearing he'd be too rough for the sweet little girl from Iowa and scare her away with his dark sexual desires...It's the perfect recipe for a hot little read.

Oh, did I say I wasn't going to get into the plot? Sorry. But it's difficult not to, because this novella is just that good.

Ms. Fox has done an exceptional job of developing an intriguing, attention holding story that warms the heart, makes you laugh,[you have to see what Jay says about Eden's self composed script] and sets your e-reader on fire with scorching hot love scenes, all wrapped up in four neat little chapters that make you want to shake your iPad so more will magically appear.

Well done, Ms. Fox! And in the infamous words of Dickens..."please sir, I want some more"...or was that Eden? LOL!

Eden is an actress who has been crushing on her sexy neighbor, Officer Jay Bennett, for some time. They're good friends, but Eden wants Jay to look at her differently rather than just as a friend. However, Eden is not the only one who has been harboring a crush. Jay has been crushing on Eden ever since the first day he laid eyes on her. However, his life and work prevents him from developing a relationship with Eden that is beyond friends.

With seduction in mind, Eden concocts a plan to seduce Jay by making up a racy script. With that, she asks Jay to rehearse lines with her and play out the roles. With Jay playing as an officer and Eden playing as the damsel in distress, their pretend roles soon brings out the raw passion and lust that they've been keeping bottled in.

Hold Me Down Hard was an entertaining, enjoyable & sexy read. The chemistry between Eden and Jay was sizzling and the sex was steamy. Eden was a determined heroine who went after what she wanted and the outcome of her seduction was hot! Jay was a sexy hero and I loved that he looked out for Eden. All in all, Hold Me Down Hard was a fast paced, fun, and very sexy short read without any added drama. With that said, this is a light and satisfying erotic romance that I would recommend.

For this review and more my blog

Hold me Down Hard was a relatively enjoyable novella it is only 60 pages long. The characters were good. Eden is nice and I liked that she was prepared to go after what she wanted. Jay was good to although his stereotypic was a little annoying. He assumes that because Eden comes from the country that is she is typical ‘girl next door’ who wants a safe and calm life including plain sex. He is constantly telling her what she needs and wants which is not cool.

The big issue with this was substance. There are two fairly big love scenes in this book and considering its length it was maybe a little too much. The author does handle it well and I thought there was enough world building and characterisation to make this whole but it was a close call.

If you are looking for a sweet and erotic short story then this one is for you but if you like a little more than this is one you might want to avoid.

With a title like Hold Me Down Hard, I should have known what to expect. Too bad I didn’t. Hold Me Down Hard may be a small little novella, but it packs some serious freaking heat. I’m talking explosive heat, where it’s best to read with a glass of ice water nearby.

Eden Carver and Jay Bennett have been friends and neighbors for the past three years. Jay has put the sweet little farm girl Eden so far in the “friend zone” it’s not even funny. Eden is now tired of the sexy cop just being her friend and wants more. Since they already spend time together rehearsing whatever lines for parts Eden is up for, she decides to write a script detailing what she wants.

Things get a little uncomfortable for Jay when the script calls for him to kiss and do more to Eden. What transpires between these two is hotter than hot and more than either of them expects. If you’re looking for a short read to overheat you, this is definitely the book for you.

This is a really sweet, sexy and insanely hot little novella. It tells the story of Eden, who is a aspiring young actress. Being a farm girl from Iowa people automatically think that she is a sweet naïve little girl who just want her boyfriends to cuddle and love her all day long. Truth is, Eden if far from that sweet little girl. She has dark and dirty fantasies that include handcuffs and men in uniforms. One man in specific, her hot neighbour and best friend Officer Jay Bennett.

Jay is attracted to Eden, I mean who wouldn't be. She is sweet, sexy, sassy and definitely not meant for him. After all she would never be able to handle his dark needs in the bedroom.

When Eden finally decides enough is enough, she concocts a story to Jay asking him to run lines for her for a audition she wants to nail. Only thing is, there is no audition and the script is actually one Eden wrote herself.... This is where it all heats up for these 2 and I encourage you to take the journey with them.... You wont regret it!!!

Good short story. Well written and HOT! Eden is an actress with a crush on her best friend and neighbor, Jay. Who just happens to be a cop. Eden likes things a little rough and is a bit of an exhibitionist. She's scared to tell Jay how she feels about him until her friends prompt her to entice him by helping her with her lines for a part. Her lines happen to be lines she's written.

Jay on the other hand has a thing for his sweet and, what he thinks, innocent neighbor Eden, from Iowa. When she asks him to run her lines with her, he's shocked an the explicit nature of the roles. But soon they are acting out their desires instead of the script.

The problem is they need to communicate with each other. Jay thinks she's some innocent farm girl who needs slow loving. Where as Eden thinks they may have ruined their friendship and he will think she's a deviant.

Once they are on the same page, you can only imagine what will happen.

Nicely done.

This is one quick and hot read. If your looking for something that you can read in one sitting that is very spicy, I would recommend this book.

Eden is a woman who wants to put herself out there and seduce her cop friend Jay. They have a very comfortable relationship that hasn't progressed beyond friendship. Eden's friends convince her to put on a little show to get Jay's attention.

Jay is a policeman with a dangerous job. He thinks Eden is too pure and innocent to deal with his job and also his likes in the bedroom.

How wrong could he be......

I enjoyed this book!

It’s a bit too short for my taste especially because the building of the story’s getting there and I was expecting something more but then the story is over. Definitely too quick. I want more! I want drama!

But overall I liked it. I think this is the first book that I read from this author and it’s definitely not the last. Look forward to read more!
