In The 360 Degree Leader Workbook, Maxwell addresses that very question and takes the discussion even further. You don't have to be the main leader, asserts Maxwell, to make significant impact in your organization. Good leaders are not only capable of leading their followers but are also adept at leading their superiors and their peers.
Debunking myths and shedding light on the challenges, John Maxwell offers specific principles for Leading Down, Leading Up, and Leading Across. 360-Degree Leaders can lead effectively, regardless of their position in an organization. By applying Maxwell's principles, you will expand your influence and ultimately be a more valuable team member.
John Calvin Maxwell is an American author, speaker, and pastor who has written many books, primarily focusing on leadership. Titles include The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership and The 21 Indispensable Qualities of a Leader. Some of his books have been on the New York Times Best Seller List.
I love John Maxwell, and his style of anecdotal writing, which is always prone to bring out challenging ideas. That being said, this wasn’t his best that I’ve read by any stretch.
I enjoyed being able to read this in a group setting and discuss ideas inspired by the book, but unlike some of Maxwells others, I don’t think I would take much out of it if I were reading it alone.
A great introduction to leadership! As someone who is neither in a leadership role nor has ever been in a leadership role, this book had so much to offer. It highlights the importance of relationships. It provides insight to “workers” as to what helps build enthusiasm and makes a great leader. It also provides information on what can be asked of their leaders to develop their skills while navigating the career landscape. A book that applies to all members of an organization.
I started this book while preparing to move into a leadership role. I found that I was already applying many of the principals for leading up and across, and I am excited to apply the principles for leading down. I would highly recommend this book to anyone regardless of their career or position.
Maxwell refreshes my leadership ideals when I'm feeling like I need a 'pick me up' and with out a doubt, I always feel like I can conquer anything having his words of wisdom.
A "how to" guide on how to lead from anywhere in your organisation. I found this particularly helpful for my role in middle management.
"No matter what our circumstances, our greatest limitation isn't the leaders above us- it's the spirit within us... leadership is as much disposition as position." (p40)
It is a book that you would like to read together with The 360° Leader. It set you to thinking rather than leaving you hanging wondering how should it work.
