Picked this up at a used bookstore in the psychology section, and I found it to be honest and relatable, even if it lost a bit of steam toward the end, and even if the dreams she described having seemed a bit too on the nose. I did think she captured well the sense of specialness involved in the relationship with one’s therapist. If only we could also read an account of these four years from her therapist’s perspective too!
Interesting perspective on a young woman's experience in therapy. Found the first half of the book to be slow. Thought about giving up. Ended up reading the rest of the book with a bit more enthusiasm. Thinking the first half could have been edited a bit. Writer is sincere and credible in her telling of her personal experience, however, I would have been more interested if it was pared down. Would consider reading other books by Ms. Israeloff. I read this book 20 years after publication after finding it in my bookcase behind others.....perhaps it is time to take a look and see what else she has published in the meantime! We've all grown up in the meantime.
