One quiet Sunday morning, homicide investigator Lucinda Pierce is called out to a bomb blast at a local high school. It seems the caretaker has been fatally wounded in the explosion and there is one other unidentified body. A bomb blast points towards suspected terrorism so, much to her annoyance, Lucinda is pulled off the case and the FBI takes over. While they are determined to prove this was an act of terrorism, Lucinda is convinced otherwise and pursues her own investigation -- along with FBI agent Jake Lovett, who just happens to believe she may be right.
When another high school pupil's dead body is discovered, Lucinda is convinced she is pursuing the right path in uncovering the motivations for the bomber. However, will the competing agencies ever acknowledge her conviction and allow her to solve the case?
I did not know that this book was part of a series - A Lucinda Pierce Homicide Investigation. I liked the character only I prefer to read series in the order they are written. I hope that my local library will be able to figure out which book came first and I can read some of the earlier books about Lucinda Pierce.
A multilayered mystery with many twist and red herrings. Parallel investigations offer contrasting dual agency theory and style. You will become invested in the characters even the villains. A mystery readers mystery as even the minor characters venture forth to add another facet to the story. Will not disappoint.
“Chain Reaction” is a good mystery with police procedures and interagency interaction. While it is one of a series, recurring characters are brought in easily so first time Lucinda Pierce series readers are pulled into the lives of these lively, dynamic characters.
