4.5* – Maybe it wasn’t such a clever idea to listen to Tumbledown straight after Desolation Point since now I miss Sarah and Alex. Part of me would hate being friends with them IRL because I would worry about them incessantly. Another part of me, however, would love it because they’re such great characters. They’re so strong and brave and all-around badass, yet also funny and tender. I might be a little bit in love with them both. Look at me looking for romance in a novel that is not about romance…

After surviving the terrifying events of Desolation Point, Alex and Sarah are living the quiet and happy life neither knew she wanted, in a cabin by a lake in Maine, with a dog, cats and chickens. They keep their heads down, but being the awesome women that they are, they get noticed anyhow. It wouldn’t be a problem if the whole white supremacist organization that almost got them killed in book 1 had been entirely eliminated but of course, that would be too easy. Someone is seeking revenge and wants them to suffer.

Tumbledown is as exciting, fast-paced and adrenaline-filled as Desolation Point was. The plot works well, there are twists and surprises and the bad guys are very bad. About that, I know it made sense for the story but I wish the domestic violence theme could have been avoided. I understand the purpose and I know how common it is in real life, I just don’t want to read about it anymore. Then again, I like how Cari Hunter deals with it.

As I wrote above, I love Alex and Sarah and I love the relationship between them. In this book, they’ve been together for two years already, so the dynamics are different: they’re not falling in love while trying to stay alive anymore, they’re fighting to save the one they love. There’s something very powerful about that.

In conclusion, Tumbledown is another excellent thriller by Cari Hunter, wonderfully narrated by Nicola Victoria Vincent. I need a – short – break from adrenaline, otherwise I’d be moving on directly to the Dark Peak series

This book establishes Cari Hunter as the queen of lesfic hurt-comfort thrillers. And I mean hurt in the physical sense. Her personal experience with injuries must come in handy as each of her books are liberally sprinkled with all kinds of abuses that can be heaped on a human body.

Tumbledown stars the same two ladies we met and fell in love with in Desolation Point. (Don't miss that one if you haven't read it yet). After barely surviving that book's harrowing adventures, Alex and Sarah resurface under new identities and hide away in a small American town. (My first reaction to that was--bad, bad move--why didn't they go the other way--Sarah's side of the world! but then i realized, maybe thats for Book 3! :). Anyway, so we see our ladies adjusting to small town life that is rather laid back and boring. As a fan of the couple, and as much as I loved to read about the minutiae of their lives and hear Sarah's lovely curses, I kept wanting impatiently for the action to pick up. Fortunately, I didn't need to wait too long.

In between the formulaic plot, the author manages to explore a couple of interesting themes: the typical small-town mindset where for some people, tolerance is grudging at best. But when trouble comes up, it flies right out the window and people assume the worst--she's a lesbian so she must be guilty. The other one is how easy it is to dismiss people's lack of courage (like the woman stuck in an abusive relationship) when even a brave soul like Sarah, can easily succumb to physical threats.

This is a good read for fans of Desolation Point. Lots of love, action and mayhem. And a coupla things to ponder over. The only thing missing here is the anticipation that you get when the two ladies first meet.

This second book of Alex and Sarah are as intense as the first book, though I have to say I am a bit paranoid and impatient at the beginning part of the story (because I know something is going to happen) but overall it is as good as the first one.

In this book, both Alex and Sarah are facing the consequences of their survival in previous book. I thought it's going to be 'chase and run for your life' again, but no, it's nothing like what I imagine at all. The plot stressing me out at some point (that's the point of the plot anyway lol) but then, in between those intense events, there are unexpectedly good things too. And good peoples. My personal favourite : Leah, Officer Kendall and Camille. This world seriously need more peoples like them.

Um I think I am going to miss Alex and Sarah but I'm glad their story end here. I have that thinking that if there is book 3, it will be another life and death experience for them and I don't want that for them. I enjoy reading this book, the story is engaging and the characters grow on me but still this book is on my 'out of comfort zone' list. If you are fan of thriller, then you should read this series.

The audiobook version of Cari Hunters Tumbledown is just as good as reading the book version. My only comment which is actually the same feeling I have gotten from all the audiobooks I have hear of Cari Hunter's books is that the narrator (Nicola Victoria Vincent) should slow down a bit because the subtle nuances that you get from reading the books are missing.

Great book! Listened to the audiobook narrated by Nicola Victoria Vincent. She again did a wonderful job bringing the characters to life.
I’m not going to repeat the blurb here, you can read that for yourself.

A second book about Alex and Sarah, loved it: because a standing couple dynamic gives a book a different vibe. In this book, just as in Desolation Point, I really found a fantastic thriller. It was realistic, exiting and heartbreaking.

You don’t get thrown into the story but get acquainted first to the lives of Alex and Sarah. Even getting to know them again is something Hunter made exiting in this book.

After the drama starts, a friend of Sarah gets killed on their driveway, the mc’s are convinced there’s a bad cop in the equation. I was wrong about who was most probable.... Twice! Well done Hunter!

I really felt sorry for the wife of the villain. Knowing there are lots of woman in abusive relations just like her. Good for her she takes matters in her own hand and has a chance at a good future.

All in all a great read. Buy and and assure yourselves of a great read!

A brilliant sapphic crime and mystery story with action and brutality thrown in. It’s balanced masterfully with humour and down moments to let you breath, just not too much before something else drops and you are racing to figure it all out.

This sequel to Desolation Point made it impossible to stop reading. Firstly, wwwhhhyyy? *sobs ugly* Had Sarah and Alex not been through enough?! And yet, I was so excited to see them again.

The writing is spectacular, the characters brilliant, and the story gripping. I loved that it was a carry on from events of the first book. And that is made sense that these two would become embroiled once again in the cross hairs of a psycho.

Cari Hunter, making me an insomniac since I picked up No Good Reason, the first of the dark peak series.

2 years after their horrific ordeal on Desolation Point Alex and Sarah have everything they never knew they wanted. A peaceful cabin on their own land in small-town Maine, new directions, new names, and most of all the joy of each other brings peace to their lives. They keep their eyes open, their heads down and are always conscious that there are threats still out there from the Church or Aryan Resistance.

When a Sarah's good deeds and Alex's injury on a police raid get them mentioned in the local paper, internet searches and face recognition software are triggered. The resulting confrontation will leave them fighting for their lives and their freedom.

-----------------

Tumbledown is the sequel to Cari Hunter's second novel, Desolation Point. In it Alex and Sarah face a whole new set of challenges, but the underlying story is a continuation of the previous plot. This is a completely different type of action thriller however - and I mean that in a good way. Too many authors find a formula and re-write the same book over and over. All three of Cari Hunter's books are very different. There are themes, but no repeats.

This time Alex and Sarah are settled, living quietly together and trying to forge a new life in the aftermath of their extreme feat of endurance. They both appreciate how lucky they are to have survived, and what they have now is a love and a lifestyle beyond what they ever expected. Into this quiet idyll comes hatred, cruelty and pain and it is looking for them.

Once again Ms Hunter outdoes herself in the tension and pace of the plot. We literally know from the first 2 pages that the evil is hunting them, but we are held on the edge of our seats for the whole book to see what will unfold, how they will cope, whether they will survive - and at what cost this time. I literally couldn't put it down.

The main characters continue to develop and now we meet a new cast of friends and enemies, haters and supporters - both in the local community and as the plot unfolds. The supporting cast is well drawn whether it be cameo roles such as Esther to ongoing cast members like Agent Mike Castillo.

In the middle of all this tension and drama the characters manage to maintain their humanity and their sense of humor. Even at their darkest most painful moments Alex and Sarah are able to think of others, and release the tension with a gentle tease. Their love for one another is the strength that keeps them fighting to survive.

Well written, edited and effortlessly enthralling, Tumbledown is a wonderful read. It will stand alone, but why would you deprive yourself when there are two breathtaking books to read about these lovely women. So if you haven't yet read Desolation Point you have a huge treat in store for you - go buy them both.

More thrilling action for poor Sarah and Alex.

Your heart really aches for everyone involved as it also pumps with fervor as you try to figure out what will happen next and how they will possibly get out of it, this time.

Sarah and Alex's love is deep and beautiful. I just love Cari Hunter's work.

It was a good mystery. Though I am a firm believer in karma because political justice aint shit nowadays. Not that fucker living to see a new day no matter in what hole he been seeing it from.

PS: Thriller/Mystery books are starting to have a theme, one could rename them for "women's abuse" because dang aint that shit explicit and gruesome.

PSS: Three woman can take down a man. A physically active woman can put up a fighter against a man. A policewoman can fuck up a man pretty badly. I JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW MYSTERY BOOKS LIKE MAKING WOMEN, in whatever category, seem weak. Yes, men are strong (many are weak) but so are women.

Argh-- I am having a moment. Good read anyways. Women won in the end, but at what cost. I know it is just fiction but sadly, these injustice actions happen IRL too.

We were first introduced to the characters of Alex and Sarah in Desolation Point, where they were in the wilderness and being chased down by a white supremacist group. This book starts a couple of years after those events, with Sarah and Alex living a relatively "normal" life in Maine. Alex is a police officer in a small town, and Sarah is a first responder who is training to be a paramedic. They've acquired a menagerie of animals, a cabin off the beaten bath, and a new last name. Unfortunately for them, their past catches up to them, throwing them into a world where they are, once again, fighting for their freedom and lives.

You don't have to read Desolation Point before reading Tumbledown, but I'd highly recommend it. I really enjoyed Desolation Point, which was pretty much a non-stop adrenaline rush. Tumbledown starts out slower - there's a lot of domestic scenes, and although I don't necessarily have a problem with that, I expect more action from Cari Hunter's books. She does deliver; the last half of the book is a roller coaster ride of emotions, which resulted in me staying up half the night flipping through the pages, having to KNOW what comes next right away. Sleep? What's sleep when Cari Hunter is on a roll?

She also kept me guessing over who the "bad guy" is it, and she tricked me a few times. That doesn't happen very often, so I was quite pleased with that. I am also a big hurt/comfort fan, and there's plenty of hurt to be found here, especially in the last half of the book. Cari Hunter is NOT afraid to hurt her characters, and I have to say that I like it. ;)

I really like the new characters introduced, particularly Lyssa (she almost has my name) and Leah. In fact, I would love to read more about Leah in the future (as well as Alex and Sarah, of course, although maybe they need a break after the events Desolation Point and Tumbledown ;) ). Cari Hunter is one of my few "pick up and every book this author writes" authors.

4 stars. Take the intenseness from book one and then multiply it by a thousand and you have this book. Holy hell. I was on the edge of my seat because I spent the first 12% or so waiting for the shit to hit the fan.

The beginning is a lot of cute moments of Sarah and Alex just living life and being in love and then bam! everything goes up in smokes and the action takes off. It was so entertaining but my heart was pounding and I was filled with anxiety. I just wanted the characters to be okay but things just kept snowballing down. Sarah and Alex are two of the strongest characters I’ve ever read about I swear. These two have been through hell and back and I just wanted them to have some peace and happiness for just five minutes. No spoilers but man, the things Sarah went through in this made me wan to rage but I loved her fight and how Alex was willing do whatever it took to save her. Loved it. This was a fantastic duology filled with action, great main characters and a lovely romance thrown in for good measure.

After reading Desolation Point where we were introduced to Alex Pascal and Sarah Kent and their harrowing fight for survival from a white supremacist group. We follow their story in Tumbledown. It is set after two years since Alex and Sarah survived the events that led them together. They have settled down in a small country town under the witness protection program from the FBI. Alex is back working in the police force and Sarah is training to become an EMT. Alex and Sarah are enjoying the peaceful life and receiving friendship and support from the community. However, small communities can quickly turn their back on you! No-one, not even the FBI who supposedly 'keeping their eye' on the situation, could predict the events which may lead dangers to the couple which could see them again fighting for their survival and keeping their love alive.

Another suspense filled, story!! Could there journey be over or is there more to come? The characters have been through so much already, but I wouldn't mind another adventure with them. Exciting, and gut wrenching at times.

I love Cari Hunter's lesbian thriller/romance novels. The Dark Peaks series is great and Unbreakable is fantastic. This novel, while not quite as good, is still totally immersive and well-crafted. If you are sensitive to violence, this may not be the book for you. Hunter's books tend towards the brutal.
The audio version of Tumbledown is iffy. I like Nicola Victoria Vincent but this must have been one of her early efforts, and her accents are terrible. They are so bad that they are distracting from the book. By the time she narrated Unbreakable I thought she did an excellent job but I would giver her performance here about 2 stars.
I will really miss Sarah and Alex but they deserve a peaceful life.

So, Cari Hunter + Nicola Victoria Vincent = Magic is the new measure by which I'll be judging audiobooks. Vincent's range, and Hunter's pacing make for awesome thrillers, and I get completely caught up in them every single time.

More thorough review to come.

Cari, you broke my heart. During the fast paced and terrifying first book, Desolation Point, I seriously fell in love with Sarah. All that she went through in the first book, I thought that perhaps there might be some respite for her in the sequel. Not a chance. Once again Sarah is put through her paces, first through humiliation and isolation, and then the physical pain. Yes, Alex went through some gripping anguish and her desperate attempts to prove the authorities wrong did in the end prove fruitful. My heart broke for Sarah, she is so good and so very strong, and was forced to endure such mental trials. I find novels that explore the corrupt nature of people, and their ability to turn, and show their ugly side so willingly, extremely disturbing. This novel touched on that, and at times I almost wanted to put the book down and scream in frustration. Of course, I didn't, as I had to know that Sarah and Alex were alright, in the end. The book was good, but I thought that the ending felt rushed. After so much pain and hurt, I wanted a longer healing period. The book left me wanting more of the love between Sarah and Alex, which is perhaps what the author intended. I sincerely hope that she writes a third novel in this series, perhaps even including some of the characters from the Dark Peak series. It would be so amazing to see Alex and Sanne working together, and Sarah and Meg to be linked in some way in the medical field. That might be too much to ask, but I think it would excite her followers. We all fell in love with Sanne and Meg, just as we have with Sarah and Alex. I think this would be an amazing way to end both series. Just my two cents.

I liked this book as it is a continuation of 2 characters that I love and who fit wonderfully together. I didn't like it quite as much as desolation point. Not really sure why unless it's because these girls CANNOT get a break. Poor Sarah has so many things happen to her it's a bit hard to read sometimes. All in all I still enjoyed it and would certainly read any other book written by Cari Hunter.

This is a great book, it builds up suspense until the villains show up halfway and then it's all action from there. Somewhat different from the previous book, Desolation Point, that's nearly all action from the start, being hunted/ chased in the woods, escaping.

Still very exciting, but in a suspense filled way that makes you tense, rather than heart stomping action. Because by this time, you are already invested in this nice, sweet couple, especially if you've read book 1. and you get very tense knowing bad things are going to happen, even if it's not a "chase" this entire book unlike the first.

it would be nice to have a much much mellower sequel set in their new home, where they're not being hunted down by the same gang of scary thugs, where the adventure is more mellow like in the writer's The Dark Peak series. Where the plot could be somewhat similar, where they happen upon a crime through chance or investigating it, rather than having the villains come to them, and where they'd be a bit less banged up.

Follow up to Desolation Point

There was violence against and battering of women, but not quite as much as the first novel in the series. It was a thriller with an established couple, so there weren't any budding romances happening. The two MCs went through hell in the first book, and they had just a little bit less in the sequel.

The writing and plot were well-written, but I couldn't, nor wouldn't, stay in a situation where my life was in jeopardy like that. The current political atmosphere makes this story even more frightening because the criminal was basically a white nationalist.

Wasn’t sure I could read this one knowing that Alex and Sarah were in for so much more trouble and pain. They really don’t deserve it!
Once started though I couldn’t put it down. CH certainly knows how to write a gripping yarn and this one is recommended to anyone who wants a bit of thriller and plot with their lesfic.

I swear, this series got better every book— especially considering how high the bar was set with the first one!! But, it more than delivered on the action, mystery, suspense & of course the easy relationship.
