For the first time in many years, all of the biographies written about Church Presidents by Francis M. Gibbons from Joseph Smith through Ezra Taft Benson are in print and available in an economical paperback format. Elder Gibbons, who has personally known several Church Presidents, was a secretary to the First Presidency for sixteen years and also served in both the First and Second Quorums of the Seventy.
A wonderful and interesting book about the life of Lorenzo Snow. I very much enjoyed reading of his inspiring life. I did not love the style of the author and at times the book was a little hard to read because of it. I might recommend a different biography of L. Snow if you are wanting to read one.
The title was very well chosen...President Snow was indeed a great spiritual man and accomplished amazing things. One of the only prophets after Joseph to actually report seeing the Savior. The church history is also always very intriguing!
Reading this book gave me a greater appreciation for all that President Snow did for the church. He greatly blessed the Saints through his intelligence, obedience, common sense, and devotion to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
I thoroughly enjoyed this biography. I learned a lot about Lorenzo Snow as a man and as an apostle and prophet. The story helped put into context the history of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in this time period. Having read many biographies, however, I prefer a less editorialized writing style.
A great book to have in your library. Strengthen your testimony of the prophet - learn more of his days in the early West - learn more of the working of the Saints in those days - Grasp a bit of Utah history - ect... I loved it and wanted more when I finished. I usually take these books and use them as little pep talks for myself at night. So, they take me longer to read, but it's worth it, because when read a bit slower, I can grasp a bit more. Seriouslly a wonderful book. I do wonder, though, if a new bio was written today what more it would have in it. :o)
