I’m a craft beer enthusiast, so I was excited to open this book and learn more about it. The book does a great job of explaining every different style of beer you could possibly find across the globe.
Each style of beer is given a detailed (but not too lengthy) description of the style, flavor, and history of how that style originated. The book even tells you the appropriate glassware from which to drink each beer, and three brewery suggestions to try.
While the book was fun to flip through and read, it is definitely more of a “reference” style book. While I did enjoy the food pairing suggestions for each style of beer, I found the “atomic structure” diagrams of each beer to be gimmicky and simply a page filler.
Overall, a great book for a beer lover, and a great reference to go back to whenever you need some guidance on what beer to drink next.
Incredibly useful and well organized resource on understanding and selecting quality craft beers. This is a very comprehensive book on all the different styles of beer and their unique characteristics. This book has enhanced my beer and brewery knowledge, great pickup!
A very entertaining way to review beer styles. The author breaks beers into four categories: English & Irish, German Ales, German Lagers, American inspired brews. Each includes a general description of the style, characteristic flavors, historical info, and three suggested examples. Recommended food pairings are included with each style (though for malt liquor he suggests people drink it just to get drunk.) A good introduction to beers from these regions.
Makes choices simple. This book classifies beer according to regional origin conveniently placed in a periodic table. There is a listing of representative brands and a brief flavor profile of each.
A helpful and easy to read intro to beer styles. Recommended for those who are new to beer drinking or simply want to branch out and explore various styles.
