Nick Walsh, champion ski jumper (aerial freestyle skier) is participating in a competition that is a precursor to the upcoming Winter Olympic Games. He wants to eventually win the gold for his late brother, Cody, who was also a skier and died in a skiing accident a year ago. Nick is also receiving dangerous threats--someone tampers with his skis, sends him menacing letters, he's shot at, etc... While at the competition he meets an old acquaintance he went to school with, Julie Frost. She is at the competition to do a tv news story on Nick which will really help boost her career, from being a production assistant to being an on-air tv reporter. Nick, at first, isn't thrilled with the idea. He dislikes reporters and doesn't trust them. When Cody died the press tried to ruin his good name with suspicions that he was using drugs. But after being with Julie he sees she's an honest person and he knows he can trust her. But he also begins to worry that, by being with him, her life could be in danger too.
This was a fun, fast-paced read. I liked the storyline with the skiing competition and the setting in Bend, Oregon. I liked Julie and how she tried to help Nick find the answers to who was trying to hurt him. She also encouraged him to get back with his estranged family. I also liked Nick. He was a good hero. He was still broken up over his brother's death and blamed himself for the accident. There were some interesting secondary characters--like ski groupie Kitty, who was hounding Nick and following him from competition to competition. This was an enjoyable Love Inspired Suspense with a captivating storyline. Great read!
Treacherous Slopes was a fun read. I liked the setting and that the main character was an athlete. The romance was sweet, mainly because the characters knew each other growing up and this was kind of their "second chance".
The villain was not a surprise, as I saw it coming, but it was still good. I can't believe all the things he/she tried to do to harm him!
All in all, a good read. It wasn't that gripping of a story, but I did still like the book.
*I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest review. As always, all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.*
Treacherous Slopes is full of action, danger, grief, suspense and some romance. It starts off strong and keeps going until the end. I guessed part of the suspense and was surprised at others events that happened. It is also a clean read.
I like that Nick is a strong character. Someone is trying to kill him. He is favored to make the U.S. ski team again. His first jump goes wrong and he figured that who ever is after him as struck again. He does not want anyone to get hurt because someone wants to kill him.
Julie has her first reporters job. She has pitched the story of local skier Nick Walsh was home again and favored to make the team. She plans to interview him. Julie and Nick went to the same high school and even worked together in some classes.
Nick lost his younger brother a year ago on a ski jump. Since some reporters were banding around that he did drugs and ruining his good name when he is not around to do it himself. Nick does not want to be interviewed.
Nick has a fan that comes to a lot of his competitions. Kitty is sure that Nick will love her too.
One of the attempts on Nick's life creeped me out. I would have run and screamed too.
I liked reading Treacherous Slopes. I would read more of Terri Reed's novels based on it.
I was given this ebook to read and asked in return to give honest review of it by Netgalley and Harlequin.
Expected publication: February 4th 2014 by Harlequin Love Inspired Suspense ISBN:0373445830 224 pages
Nick Walsh is a champion aerial skier, who has a good chance of earning the gold in the upcoming Olympics. Julie Frost is hoping to get a permanent spot as a news reporter after she gets an interview with Nick. Nick doesn't like reporters, but his manager has agreed to the interview, and Nick and Julie grew up together; so Nick wants to trust her, but then again, she is a reporter... Nick has an accident during his competition that he's pretty sure wan't an accident at all. As the attempts on his life escalate, Nick and Julie try to stay one step of the person who wants him dead. Treacherous Slopes was a quick read, at about 220 pages. The suspense kept the story moving along. I loved the resort town setting and all of the information I learned about competitive skiing. This book got me in the mood for the Winter Olympics this year. The suspense aspect of the plot was interesting, and kept me engaged. I felt like the antagonist in the story was pretty inept though. There were at least 4 attempts on Nick's life in a 48 hour time period, none of which were successful. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad Nick lived, it just seems pretty funny to me. Anyway, likeable characters, an intriguing plot, and a sweet romance. Treacherous Slopes was a great book to cuddle up with on a cold winter night. It will leave you wanting to watch the Olympics though :) Content: clean (some kissing), a little religious undertone but not preachy, and easy to skim over if you're not interested.
Treacherous Slopes by Terri Reed was a very good book. There was action, suspense, mystery, friendship, grief and romance. The mystery of who is trying to kill a champion ski jumper was carried on throughout the entire book and I didn't know who it was until it was revealed at the end. The characters were well developed and realistic having both positive and negative traits. The action and suspense were non-stop and well written. The writing style flowed easily and it was a quick, easy read. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a clean, suspenseful mystery. I will be looking for more books written by Terri Reed.
Nick Walsh has one more competition on his way to the Winter Olympics. He has returned to his home town of Bend, OR for the competition. It is also the 1 year anniversary of the death of his younger brother, Cody, and so a difficult time for him and his parents. High school friend, Julie Frost, now works at the local TV station and has lined up a special segment featuring Nick. However, besides shadowing him and interviewing they need to be careful of someone who is out hurt Nick. This was a decent category romance but no real sparkle.
I loved that Julie and Nick essentially had high school crushes on each other. This connection made their relationship sweetly awkward. The fact that more than one person was plotting to keep Nick from going for Olympic gold made sense and was well-developed. I liked that Julie was trying to get a career break from interviewing Nick, but I felt that storyline needed more closure.
Treacherous Slope by: Terri Reed was a story about one competitor trying to make it to the USA Team for Aerial Freestyle Jumping to go to the Olympics to win gold for his baby brother who died a year earlier so when a home town girl reporter waits to interview him he fall victim to more death threats putting (her Julie home town girl and friend when they both were growing up together and him Nick Welsh Aerial Freestyle Super Star in grave danger when the attacks become more deadly. In all of this the heart will do what the heart wants and that's for them together and heel with the help of God and family. But can they catch the killer before the announcement of who will be going to the Olympics. Pick up a copy and find out.
Treacherous Slopes by Terri Reed was a good book. Lots of suspense. Nick Walsh is a champion ski jumper. He is training to win the gold. But someone has been trying to kill him for the past two years. Nick has hired a bodyguard. When Nick returns to his home town for training he meets Julie Frost. They went to school together. Julie works for a newspaper. Julie wants to do a piece on Nick. A lots goes on in this story. You will be surprised to find out who wanted Nick out of the running for a gold medal. A must read.
Maybe a little less, s the ending was a little pat, but a good, solid novel. She did, however, have a chance to make the female protagonist the "rescuer, which I was REALLY hoping for (I've read a lot of these books, and it never happens, though sometimes there is a joint effort), and did not do so.
