Rise of Augustus
In the penultimate chapter of the saga of Titus Pullus, Legionary of Rome, Titus has been promoted to the newly formalized post of Camp Prefect, by Gaius Octavianus Caesar, who will become known as Augustus. Superb read
The continuing saga of Titus Pullus's life and the story continues to grab good of the readers imagination. Every part of the story and the wide range of characters rings true, a reflection of the authors research and grasp of the Roman world. Also his own military service, anyone who has can attest to the validation of the soldiers conversations around the fire. All in all a superb read bring on the next one

A nice transition to a different period of history. This installment allows us to witness the changes of the early empire through the eyes of a seasoned veteran soldier who survived all the civil wars at the end of the Republic.

Review marching with Carsar-Augustus
Full of twists and turns in Army life. I could identify with so much in my past officer career. Real page burner, on to the next book.

The saga of Titus Pullus continues with "Rise of Augustus." As with the earlier books in the MWC series, this one is loaded with often gruesome battle scenes, Roman-era political drama and gritty descriptions of life in the Roman army. By the time the reader reaches this book, he or she has become so involved with the main characters that when one of them dies, as happens in this book, the sense of loss is almost palpable.
Pullus has been promoted to Camp Prefect and, as such, is second in command of the army. This role places him in often difficult positions as there is usually little or no precedence for decisions he needs to make. Even at his "advanced age" of 50, there are times when problems need to be solved by force. Pullus does not come through all of these unscathed and the scars left behind are beginning to take their toll. Through it all, he retains his sense of honor.
It will be sad to see this series end, as it must, but there are still more adventures to be had and I cannot wait to share in them.

The overall story just keeps getting better and better, and it's refreshingly gratifying to see Titus learning some political acumen now that he's in his 50's.
Some sincere sadness felt at the loss of some of his oldest friends - a sign that I'm truly invested I. The plot and storyline.

I continue to enjoy R.W Peake's work. This book was back to basics on life in the legions. Titus Pullo's adventures continue to deliver. Although his bouts of depression seem somewhat petulant for a man of his age and experience. Still, I await with eagerness the final novel in this series.

Enjoyed it alot, but just sad to know that Balbus didn't managed to have someone's ball sac turned into a purse. Can't wait for the next book.
