Perfect for fans of Megan Miranda and Ruth Ware! A thriller that you won't be able to put down.

Kylie Wilson is summoned back home after her grandmother dies. Kylie has not returned to Willow Breeze Campground since her parents were murdered there in a house fire ten years earlier. Her twin sister, Kara, went missing that same night as well. Kylie knows that she will never receive closure until she finds out if Kara is still alive. Did Kylie have something to do with her parents' death? The local police detective thinks that Kylie or Kara could be guilty.

Kylie's psychologist follows her back home to Tennessee to her family's campground to prevent another murder while she's there. After all, Kylie is seeing things, has regular anxiety attacks, and can't tell what is real or imagined at times. Does her doctor think she might have killed her own parents?

A twist emerges at the end when the true murderer is revealed. More twists and turns wind through the novel as all of this unfolds. Will Kylie survive this time or will the killer complete what they started ten years ago?

Recommended on BookTok. The story was really good and I liked the characters but the writing itself was not very good. Let me explain. This book reads like a self published work that no one took the time to proofread or edit. Several grammatical errors, rough perspective shifts and the dialogue did not match the setting (Tennessee). I also had a hard time believing the antagonist’s back story, there was a lot about it that didn’t make sense and it just felt forced/rushed to give them a motive to end the story how she wanted it to end. I think Krissy Webb could write a really great book but needs to take the time to research, draft and properly proof and edit.

Having agonized over writing this review due to not wanting to be harsh on a new author, I feel there is no other option but to be honest. Even with a self published book, an author can edit and proofread themselves as well as have others do the same. This book is riddled with spelling and grammatical errors but most importantly the entire plot/story contradicts itself in many statements making it messy and difficult to read. It’s also extremely repetitive and in my opinion shouldn’t be read until it has been extensively edited. Plot has potential, ending is anticlimactic.

Examples:
Kylie states she made Oliver think he had too much to drink so that he really didn’t see Kara/Kylie when going to the bathroom from the barn yet earlier in the book while in the barn they had just gotten there and didn’t get their dinner (chili) or a beer until After he returned from the bathroom.
“He doesn’t have any children; he has one child left living” - What does this even mean? Does he have children or not???
Author stated Dr Clark was married for 10 years; She states the “Incident” happened 10 years ago; she then states the doctor has three children but he and his wife watched the news of incident while the children were in bed. This is an Impossible scenario.
“At least I got the rocks.” The author stated the rocks were scattered all over the ground at the time of the attack.
Lucas commented on the bump on Kylie’s head when out in the woods but Alice Ann stated in the hospital that there was a rock on the ground with blood and hair on it. Is it a bump or an injury that may have required staples or sutures? She also was told she had a serious concussion but was discharged without an overnight hospital stay this making the story far fetched/unbelievable.
During this conversation in the woods, the author states James brushed both of his hands off on his jeans leaving a trail of gray dust. In the next sentence, Kylie asks James a question and the author states “James threw down the the rock he was carrying”…this is yet another example of why it was so difficult to read this book. The inconsistencies are constant. How can a reader become absorbed in a story when it’s all over the place? Is the man holding a rock or not?
Oliver went out of town last week then Oliver/Mickey states he went out of town two weeks ago.
It’s implied that Kylie is Kara because of the childhood broken leg yet Kylie has her teenage memories of her relationship with Lucas, her lack of memory of Robby when she meets him at the law office and her lack of memory of Mickey telling teenage Kara about hearing Jerry and the father discussing the threats.
This is just a small example of the inconsistencies making it difficult to absorb one’s self into this story. I found myself unofficially editing/proofreading the book without any enjoyment.
Also, the characters were superficial, no internal emotions or personality given to any of them leaving the reader unable to connect with even one.
My personal opinion is that the author “rushed” to publish the book without reading her own book after she wrote it.

To assist author with corrections for this book or future books: (surprised the author has a masters in English and is a college English professor)
Repeating same phrases:
marrying or having children and being like grandparents ie Jerry & Alice Ann
not that close to nanny Claire
Referring to someone as stout & slim - definition of stout contradicts a person being stout & slim
No gray showing yet when referring to 28-30 years old
Too many people have chestnut colored/dark brown hair
Do the twins have curly hair or not?
Unlikeable characters
A person can’t drink bottle of water in one swallow
Kara dates James but has nothing nice to say about him
evening instead of even
distant instead of distance
sale instead of sell
due instead of dew
misses instead of missus
suite instead of suit
i’m x2 (should be I’m)
me & Kara instead of Kara & I
was Kylie’s memories (should be were)
Barely conscious to completely alert in seconds (not believable)
The next person we have is James and Lucas (should be “people” and “are”)
listening to mom and dad (should be coincidence instead of coincident)
joining them two (grammatical error or misspelled- depending on context)
He would never admit to what he had down with Kara’s body (should be done)
but Oliver just left with you a cup (what does that even mean?)
Periods where there should be question marks several times

This book was suggested on a Facebook Psychological Thriller group by the author’s mom. It was a really good book, especially for a first time author. I did note about 30 errors, (and my kindle isn’t posting them right now), but since she is self published, I think that explains it. It’s really just an old fashioned mystery. A woman, due to her grandmother’s death) is returning to her childhood home, a resort, ten years after the death of her parents and her twin sister goes missing. Will she be in danger since the killer has never been found? She reunites with all of her old friends, and is launched right back into the mystery of her past. I think the twist was a good one. I wasn’t thrilled with a couple of things that transpired at the end, but not overly troubled by it! I recommend it!

Utter garbage.

It is so poorly edited and written, I have no idea how it’s been published. An author that says, “Could care less” cannot be taken seriously. Tenses change constantly and there is a paragraph where the POV inexplicably changes from third to first person. The storyline is incoherent. It’s just utter drivel.

This book was difficult to get through due to the grammatical and spelling errors throughout. The writing was simple and repetitive. The plot was messy and left unanswered questions. Overall, would not recommend.

I kept seeing ppl recommend this book. The story had me hooked but the writing had some issues. Most was in past tense but random sentences would switch to present tense, also some grammar and spelling errors. The twist was ok but i guessed a lot of it. At the end, where I thought we’d finally get some answers, I was left hanging.

A shining example of why editors are vital to good books. There’s a story in here, but it’s maimed by plot issues and smothered by lack of editing.

The author randomly inserts sentences in first-person POV when the book is largely written in third-person POV; she jumps back and forth between past tense and present tense, often in the same sentence. (All these transgressions happen by page 10.) The running theme seems to be inconsistencies; I stopped taking notes, but timelines contradict themselves and characters seem to forget things that either happened to them or that they were definitely aware of at the time.

The kicker, though, is the entirely fucked ending. Oliver is Mickey? Sure, people can change their appearance pretty thoroughly, and if Kylie/Kara only knew him for one summer a decade ago, he’s believably pretty forgettable. But Mickey is the son of Kylie/Kara’s “dad”, and this deadbeat doesn’t even recognize him? Miss me with the nonsense about custody being a challenge because of the divorce, there’s no way he was a great dad to twin girls who weren’t his but entirely walked out on his own kid. But not even realizing it’s your kid? Thirteen years is a long time but that’s an asinine plot twist. And the psychiatrist knows who Kylie is because he treated Mickey/Oliver… but doesn’t warn her that her boyfriend is a dangerous psychopath? HIPAA be damned, knowingly allowing your current patient to live in danger like that is insane. Still, whatever that ending is takes the cake for literary offenses here: Kylie is actually Kara? Or something? Which we figure out from an Easter dress and a broken leg? Even identical twins can be told apart by people who know them well, and it’s pretty sus that Alice Ann wouldn’t realize immediately that Kylie was missing and Kara was pretending to be her sister. (To what, get back at James?)

Overall, give this one a miss.

The only reason this book didn’t get five stars was because of all the errors in the book, missing words, use of the wrong words, in general not edited or these many mistakes would have been corrected. The book itself….the story was great, the twists were spectacular, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Hopefully the author will write another book but with better editing.

-Review-

*May contain spoilers. Read at your own risks.*

It was so fun being able to read a book by an author that I know personally. Krissy taught my college English classes and was such a joy. So, I wasn’t too surprised when she announced she wrote a book.

I think this is a wonderful beginner thriller book. I think it’ll draw you in and give you a nice taste of how the psychological thriller genre is.

The good:

-I thought the twists were amazing. I honestly didn’t see the ending coming. I did however have some suspicions at one part around the hospital scene and I was correct.
-I really liked the characters. I thought they were good and relatable.
-I always love a good twin thriller. They are seriously the best to read in my opinion because literally anything can happen.
-The plot was great. I love a summer camp book with a little mystery/thriller.
-Multiple POVs. I typically don’t enjoy more than two POVs but this one was okay. It didn’t bother me much.
-The killer. I thought this was well thought out and I didn’t see it coming.
-The ending was fantastic. I love a good cliffhanger. I’m not sure if there will be a book two but regardless, it was a shocking ending.
-Super fast pace which makes for a great thriller. I like my thrillers to were I can’t put them down.

The not bad but things I think could’ve been expressed more:

-I was kind of wanting more about the murders. Like how it happened. I wanted more depth into it. It didn’t really explain what happened other than they were murdered and the house was burnt down. I feel like a scene of that night and what went down would’ve made this already wonderful book even better. Like maybe a scene after the killer was found. A flashback maybe since it was switching between Kylie now and Kara back then.
-The psychologist. I wanted more from his perspective. I felt like he was suppose to play an important part in this book but he really didn’t do anything until the end. I just would have like to see more of his point of view.
-The random Lucas POVs. I liked how we saw from his perspective at the end but it was just sort of random since we didn’t have his perspective throughout more of the book. It just would’ve made more sense to me.

All in all; I enjoyed this book immensely. It was a great, fast-pace psychological thriller and I think a lot of people will enjoy this book. I’m super proud of Krissy and her accomplishments and I can’t wait to read more of her books. I’m already a K.Webb fan girly and can’t wait to add more of her books to my collection.

I gave this book 4 stars!

Krissy Webb 1st book, The Last Night I Knew You, is a great story. I had a hard time with the ending. There are so many unanswered questions. The character development isn't too bad, but there could've been more of some and fewer of others. A few characters were just thrown in with no actual point to the story itself. A self-published author should absolutely have an editor. There are many words used incorrectly that are not misspelled ( for example, due instead of dew) and grammatical errors. Even providing an ARC for readers would help in this. The twist didn't do it for my Psychological Thriller mind. It's a nice debut book, and I think I would read another by this author if there is another. For a college English teacher, I would expect a better written story with fewer errors. The errors do not necessarily take away from the story, though. It's just a major distraction for me with so many.

Kylie and Kara are identical twins who grew up on their parents resort/campground. Kara disappears and then Kylie's parents die in a house fire. So much trauma caused Kylie to move away for school and not return until a grandmother passes away 10 years later. Going back home ends up bringing more incidents that happen to Kylie including being injured and having someone following her. Little does she know that those who are the closest are sometimes the ones we need to fear. I will admit part of the way through I started thinking about the identical twins and how that could be part of the plot but I did NOT guess who the killer was. Good plot and storylines throughout. I will be reading more from Krissy Webb.

Lots of grammar and spelling errors. Important sentences with words missing. Example- when Kara is telling Robby she’s going to tell James in the morning, “let him know that things are working out between me and him” when it should say things are NOT working out. Page 221. Continues to say Kara smiled at Robby to reassure him she felt the same towards him as he did her

With editing issues aside it was an interesting read. I wondered what happened to Kara and who murdered their family and why for most of the book.
I didn’t care for the final cave scene. It was rushed and all over the place. The gun comes out of nowhere, Kylie never mentions it and then the psychiatrist is shot. Then bam we’re looking at picture and Kylie actually is Kara??? Is that why “Kylie” has the nightmares of Kara being pushed into the lake? Because it’s her? But why steal her identity…. $10 says it’s because she was always jealous of Kylie and the 2nd book will be just as dumb and dramatic as the first

There were so many spelling errors/typos, and wrong words that it was frustrating to read. For example instead of saying meds the sentence read beds. Or instead of aren't it was are. The book also jumps around and you are not always certain whose perspective it is.

What a fun read this was! Krissy does a great job of quickly jumping in to the story and starting a thrilling ride with lots of twists and turns. This was one I had a hard time of putting down and I look forward to reading what’s next for these characters.

I do wish there was more character development and details. It was hard to connect to the characters due to this and a lacking back story. There were also several errors but a quick fix with more time put into the editing process.

A good book overall and a great debut from a author I’m looking forward to reading more from!

There were quite a few grammar errors, which really irks me. I felt the writing was very poor and elementary. Sentences were lacking depth, and small details were left out. For example, at one point, the main character was on the phone in the middle of a conversation. She then got distracted, but nothing was ever written about ending the phone call. The timeline didn't add up at times, especially in regards to the psychiatrist, whom in my opinion, was an underutilized character. Overall, this wasn't really what I would consider to be a thriller. It was very predictable, even the epilogue "twist." I don't even want to call it a "twist" because of how predictable it was. I wish there was a clear ending rather than the attempted cliffhanger.

I really wanted to like this book more than what I did because I wanted to give a new author a chance. I thought the plot was very good and had the potential to suck me in but unfortunately I felt the writing style was a little juvenile. There were a lot of overly descriptive passages with way too many unnecessary details that had nothing to do with the plot. There were also a lot of spelling and grammar errors.

As I said, the plot was very good. A young woman named Kylie returns to her hometown after the death of her grandmother to settle her grandmother's estate and also to hopefully find out what happened the night her parents were killed and her twin sister Kara disappeared. There were a lot of twists, some of which I figured out and some I didn't. I kept reading, hoping to find out what happened to Kara and what the Annie witch rhyme had to do with the story but the book ended on a cliffhanger and I was confused about the broken leg situation. I don't know if the writer plans to write a sequel to explain the plot holes but if she does, I would give her another chance and read it to hopefully get my questions answered. I also hope she's able to get a better editor to fix the grammar and spelling mistakes before publishing.

Mysterious, chilling, spellbound, thrilling...and of course...shocking!

Kylie and Kara, best friends and identical twins, shared the bond of friends, adventures and living at a Camp Resort in Tennessee. Different personalities, but the one thing they shared was the love of their family.

Then the devastating incident happened and the home of the twins beloved parents lived in was burned by flames and the mom and dad was murdered. The devastation did not stop there as Kara was never seen again.

...How will Kylie move on?! The torture of these losses broke her soul. She ran, left her friends and what she's always known to start a new.

When Kylie got the news that her last living relative passed away, she flew from North Carolina to Tennessee to pay her respects and clear up the camp's finances. This time, she traveled with her boyfriend, Oliver.

Back at camp, strange things started happening. The whispers, the crackling footsteps and the faces in the windows. Who was following Kylie? Was the murderer back to take care of the last remaining sister?

This was Kristy Webbs first novel and it will not be her last. This chilling thriller leaves you wanting more. I would love a sequel to this book, to find out what happens to Kylie and see if Kara ever comes back!

I enjoyed this book! I would have given it 5 🌟’s but there were quite a few grammar errors and very noticeable spots of going between 1st and 3rd person that made it hard to follow, only a few times.

It’s about teenage twin girls who live and work on a small summer resort their parents own in TN. One summer will end with their parents murdered in their home fire and one of the twins, missing. 10 years later the surviving twin returns to the resort for closure when she learns of her grandmothers passing. Her return brings back lots of memories of that night as well as unresolved feelings of teenage love. The surviving teen wants closure and while she seeks the truth she is beginning to wonder if she’s safe or if the person who killed her parents never left and now want her dead. She finds out a secret her dad had been keeping from her that opens a whole new twist and unexpected ending.

This Book was recommended to me in a group I belong to on facebook Domestic Thriller Readers book club .. i am sure glad i read it , the writer hooks you right in to the mystery of what happened that night 10 years ago at Willow Breeze campground . the author spins enough mystery and shade around each character to have you second guessing everyone . I love to read books that engage your senses by the use of great descriptions , this book does that you almost feel like you have been to this campground you can smell the scents of cabins and hear the twigs crunching as people walk the trails . over all the book was well written there were several errors of missing words , wrong name being used , some grammar issues that whoever edited the book missed . ( mostly in the latter chapters) but it didn't take away from the story . Over all for the 1st book pretty good 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Five Trees (⭐️s)

Local author, Krissy Webb, released this book earlier this summer. I’m not a super huge thriller/mystery person, so it took me a while to finally pick it up. But goodness gracious I wish I had picked it up on release day! This book is phenomenal and everything a psychological thriller should be. With so many questions left unanswered, I cannot wait for the next book to be released. I only guessed part of the final reveal and that didn’t take anything away from the story for me because it was just a small part in the bomb she dropped on us. I highly recommend to all of you it to all of you mystery readers and it’s currently on Kindle Unlimited!

Dark, Gripping, and Full of Twists

This suspenseful page-turner hooked me from the very first chapter. Kylie’s return to Willow Breeze Campground is steeped in tragedy and unanswered questions—and the deeper she digs into the night her parents were murdered and her twin sister vanished, the more tangled things become.

The atmosphere is moody and tense, and Kylie’s psychological unraveling adds a gripping layer of uncertainty: is she seeing ghosts of the past, or something more dangerous? The arrival of her psychologist amps up the unease, especially as suspicions turn toward Kylie herself.

There are plenty of twists, some that genuinely surprised me, and the final reveal was both chilling and satisfying. It’s the kind of thriller that keeps you guessing—and glancing over your shoulder. Perfect for fans of Megan Miranda and Ruth Ware, just like the blurb promises.
