This is Book #2 in the Mermaid Point series ⭐⭐⭐⭐+
The name Nerissa ~ means sea nymph ~ so it is perfect that Nerissa Morgan lives on Mermaids Point.
Things are comfortable but not perfect for Nerissa Morgan. This story starts when she is remembering her high school sweetheart, Gareth; who upon high school graduation joined the Army. Unfortunately he was killed in road accident in a peacekeeping mission. Today would have been his birthday and Nerissa is taking a bouquet of daffodils for his grave site.
Sylvia a longtime friend and been playing matchmaker for years but Nerissa never connected with anyone other than Gareth.
She is now forty-three years old, a medical receptionist and a live-in housekeeper for a Doc Malcolm who will soon be retiring. She is concerned and fearful that once he decides to retire he is going to sell to developers. She will not only be out of job but a home as well!

Dr. Tom Nelson is a General Practice Physician in London and is trying to keep busy after the death of his wife, Anna. His two juvenile children Emily and Max are grieving and struggling with the loss of their mother. In fact, there has been some trouble at school. Twelve-year old Max was defending the honor of his older sister and gets in a fight over pictures circulating of her and some of her girlfriends.
It appears Emily and friends were dared to take selfies in their underwear and post. Needless to say the posts were all over campus in no time. Tom is upset but after taking to the teacher at school, realizes that he hasn’t taken nearly the time with the children that his wife had. If Anna were still alive this would not have happened.
Tom sees the offer of the position at Mermaids Point and is invited to visit before making any decision.
Yep it appears Old Doc Malcolm has decided to look for a replacement and not sell to developers.

When Tom and the kids go to meet Doc at the local bar/hang out ~ Guess who is there?
Yep Nerissa!
The visit to Mermaids Point goes great. Tom and kids take a vote if he should or shouldn’t accept the position.

Okay the first part is Tom & Nerissa getting together but there it is sooo much more to this story. We get to know the friends and neighbors (unless you read Book #1 and have a head-up on these characters).
There is family drama and family connections that I loved and I am sure you will as well!

I totally love the quote: ~ “The words we give to the sea are heard only by the waves”
It seems most of us would be happier if we took a trip to the shore and scream like a banshee to rid ourselves of frustrations!!
I am now looking forward to reading next in this series Christmas Surprises at Mermaids Point.

A light escapist romance read.
I have really been enjoying the Mermaid’s Point series and this is the second book in it. Though it is part of a series it can easily be read as a standalone.
A very delightful book,warm and engaging. You'll want to grab your tea and get lost in this while the afternoon flies by.
Well rounded characters along with idyllic settings will make you feel like home.
I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

Autumn Dreams at Mermaids Point by Sarah Bennett is the second book in her Mermaid’s Point series, but can easily be read as a stand-alone book. I really enjoyed this book, it has everything I love in a book. A beautiful coastal village, a cast of interesting characters, and a lovely, sweet romance.

Nerissa Morgan has lived in Mermaids Point her entire life. At age 43, she still works at the local doctor’s surgery in town, as a receptionist and housekeeper for the old, and soon to be retired, Doc Gadd. Her first and only love, Garreth, died after leaving for the Army when they were both young, and she has never found anyone who she can love as much as she loved him.

Tom is the single father of two teenagers living in London while he works in a thriving General Practice as one of the partners of the clinic. His wife and the mother of his two children died three years ago, and he is still grieving her loss, as are his children. After some issues at his children’s school, he decides to go to Mermaids Point to answer an advertisement for a new GP at the surgery in town. Tom and his kids, Emily and Max, explore the village and decide to move there and take over the Surgery from the old doctor. Of course, the surgery practice comes with the live-in housekeeper and receptionist Nerissa. Can Tom and Nerissa live in the same house, and work together while denying the growing attraction between each other?

I enjoyed this refreshing story about two lonely people, who don’t need or want anyone else in their lives as they both have already had and lost the love of their lives. When they meet, it’s an instant attraction, but they both struggle to shed the memories of their past loves to learn to love again. I felt so strongly for both Nerissa and Tom, and couldn’t wait for them to figure out they are so right for each other. I also enjoyed Tom’s children, Max and Emily as they also struggled with their ongoing grief and the sudden changes to living in a small village.

The author skillfully described the little village and the townspeople so well that I was transported to this seaside sanctuary. Once I started reading on the first page, the rest of the book flew by as I was transported to the lovely little village and met the friendly people of Mermaids Point. All her characters are well developed and sympathetic, and I loved every one of them.

I highly recommend Autumn Dreams at Mermaids point to anyone who loves a story of loss and love in a quaint picturesque village. I received a complimentary copy of this book. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

In this second Mermaids Point story, we meet Nerissa Morgan, the live-in housekeeper/assistant at the local GP practice. She was in love once, but he was killed in the military and she has stayed in Mermaids Point ever since. She has made a life for herself and is very well though of by everyone. Tom, a widower and his two children are visiting, or are they. It turns out that Doc is retiring and Tom is there to see if he wants to buy the practice. Nerissa is worred when she finds out as she isn't sure if she will have a home or a job. Will this give Tom and his children the change they need to reconnect and come back to life?

I enjoyed my second visit to Mermaids Point and meeting up with the characters I met in the first book. You do not need to read Summer Kisses at Mermaids Point to enjoy this story, but there are recurring characters. I connected with Dr. Tom Nelson and his two children Emily and Max, I lost my father at a young age and know how difficult it is for children to grieve as well and try and act like they are fine with their friends. Emily posts some questionable photos online and Max gets into a fight protecting her honor. Tom decided that they needed to move somewhere they could reconnect as well as slow down. Max is looking for a female to bond with, and Nerissa seems to fit the bill, but Emily is worried she will try and replace her mother. Very realistic and relatable behaviour. Can Tom and Nerissa live in the same house, and work together while denying the growing attraction between each other? This story is about two lonely people, who don’t want anyone else in their lives as they have already loved and lost that person. When they meet, there's an instant attraction, but they both try to ignore it for both their own sakes and the sake of the grieving children. There is some angst along the way and things don't go smoothly, but this is a romance and they will eventually get their HEA. This is a sweet romance that also deals with grief, forgiveness and reconnecting with family. I did a read/listen with this book and enjoyed both formats. The narrator, Annabelle Indge does a nice job with the story, voices and tone. I recommend this book to those who enjoy romances set in wonderful communities.

Na het lezen van Zomerdromen in Mermaids Point wilde ik natuurlijk ook het tweede deel, dat prima als alleenstaand gelezen kan worden, lezen. De vrolijke geïllustreerde cover die perfect aansluit op deel één, is ditmaal meer in herfstsfeer. Ik ben enorm benieuwd of Sarah Bennett opnieuw een leuke en originele verhaallijn weet neer te zetten. Ik heb hoge verwachtingen.

In het tweede deel volgen we het verhaal van Nerissa Morgan. Ze is de liefde van haar leven kwijtgeraakt en vindt het moeilijk om de draad weer op te pakken. Ze werkt op de huisartsenpraktijk, waar ze de teugels strak in handen houdt. Dan gaat haar baas met pensioen en komt een nieuwe arts de praktijk overnemen. Tom Nelson heeft zijn vrouw verloren en om zijn verdriet te vergeten heeft hij zich volledig op zijn werk in de Londense huisartsenpraktijk gestort. Hij neemt zijn tienerkinderen mee naar het kustplaatsje Mermaids Point, met het idee een nieuwe start te maken. Nessa denkt hier toch wat anders over...
 
Voordat het nieuwe verhaal begint geeft Sarah Bennett eerst een beschrijving van alle personages in het verhaal. Dit zijn er nogal wat. Wel is deze lijst erg handig om later tijdens het lezen op terug te blikken.

Wat me direct blij stemde is dat Sarah Bennett ditmaal heeft gekozen voor een personage dat wat ouder is. Daarbij is Nerissa op hele leuke en realistische wijze neergezet. Ook de andere personages in het verhaal zijn heerlijk divers, wat de geloofwaardigheid van het verhaal voor mijn gevoel direct vergroot. Het is leuk dat er veel personages uit het eerste deel de verhaallijn passeren, ook al is het niet noodzakelijk deel één gelezen te hebben.

Sarah Bennett heeft een heerlijke levendige en vlotte schrijfstijl. Hierdoor zit er een heerlijk tempo in de verhaallijn en de gebeurtenissen en weet ze het verhaal door middel van krachtige dialogen op een prachtige manier tot leven te roepen.

Het verhaal heeft een leuke en mooie verhaallijn. Door de wendingen en gebeurtenissen weet het verhaal me in zijn greep te houden. Het verhaal is ook een leuke combinatie tussen een opbloeiende liefde en de zaken in de huisartsenpraktijk. Het verhaal heeft niet heel veel diepgang, maar ik mis dat absoluut niet in dit verhaal.

Herfstdromen in Mermaids Point is een enorm leuk en mooi tweede deel. Het is leuk dat er ditmaal is gekozen voor een vrouw die al wat meer op leeftijd is. Daarbij vormt de huisartsenpraktijk en de opbloeiende liefdesrelatie voor een mooie combinatie. Het verhaal is vlot en luchtig geschreven waardoor je er heerlijk in op kan gaan. Een heerlijke aanrader.

This is such a wonderful instalment in the Mermaids Point series! When widowed Tom and his family have the opportunity to relocate to the picturesque Mermaids Point, this seems like the fresh start the family needs to put the sadness of the past behind them.

Nerissa, a long term resident of the point, who's spent a number of years working for the sometimes irascible but always charming 'Doc', Malcolm, has a tragedy of her own in her past that walks alongside her and informs her emotions and decisions. When her living arrangements suddenly change, will she adapt to the new dynamics in the place she woks and lives in, or will it all just be too much, too soon?

I adored this book. From the moment I read the first page, I was swept up in the beautiful setting, the wonderfully rounded characters and the masterful storytelling. Sarah Bennett has the knack of giving the slightest gestures the biggest significance, and loading emotion into every look, word and touch. I could sense the fear and frustration that Tom and Nerissa felt as they both tried to navigate their new and changed lives, and also the exhilaration and passion that they both try so hard to come to terms with and quantify. This is a must for fans of emotional storytelling, escapist reading and people and places that will take your breath away. I can't wait to read the next one!

Nerissa Morgan never got over losing the man she loved when she was in her early twenties. Now at the age of 43, she feels like she is stuck in limbo while everyone around her is enjoying life to its fullest. Nerissa’s life is about to change though, the doctor she works for is retiring, and a new doctor is rumoured to be coming to take over the practice. The question is, will Nerissa still have a job and a home when the new doctor takes over?

Since his wife died, Dr. Tom Nelson has buried himself in work, but when his children get into trouble at school, he realizes that his little family has drifted apart. Knowing that they need a change of scenery, Tom decides to take a job as a family doctor in Mermaids Point, a beautiful seaside town.

The move doesn’t go as smoothly as Tom hopes; his children are still grieving and angry about their mother’s death, and his predecessor is having a hard time letting go of his practice. Tom also finds himself attracted to Nerissa, the lovely receptionist and housekeeper with whom he is now sharing a roof with.

Oh, this book was just so delightful to read. If you are looking for a light, cheerful, English seaside read, I would highly recommend giving this book a try. FYI this is the second book in the Mermaids Point series. If you are like me and haven’t read the first book, don’t worry. I didn’t feel lost or confused while reading this book; Sarah did an excellent job bringing readers up to speed while continuing the storyline.

I don’t think I will ever get tired of reading books that take place in small English towns. I adore Mermaids Point and its lovely community. I loved the gossiping knitting group, the old men getting medical advice in the pub, or people meeting up to swim in the ocean. There is also something so wonderful about watching a community come together when times are tough. Their willingness to open their arms to those who need help is heartwarming. I also get a laugh at how quickly news spreads through a small town.

I’m really enjoying this series – it has all the qualities of a Sunday night tv drama, with its wonderfully created seaside town setting and cast of characters whose stories immerse you in their lives. As promised at the end of the first book (which you really don’t need to have read, but then why wouldn’t you want to?), this is Nerissa’s story. She’s in her forties – although she sometimes does seem a little older – and worried about her future, working as housekeeper and receptionist to the village doctor who’s on the verge of retirement. He’s very secretive about his future plans, and Nerissa has increasing concerns that she’ll find herself both jobless and homeless, forced to rely on the support of her sprawling family, the Morgans.

But she finds he’s lined up a replacement doctor – Tom is a widower with two children, keen to relocate to a new place and leave his memories and a few current problems behind. There’s an initial attraction between him and Nerissa, and that becomes the central theme of the story – she carries an edge of sadness having lost the love of her life when they were both young, and the ready-made family is something that she both yearns for but feels the need to resist. The story largely focuses on their developing relationship, both working and personal – and I thoroughly enjoyed the way their story unfolded against the tapestry of other characters and all the small dramas along the way.

There’s a character listing at the start of the book, but I doubt you’ll need it – the book wraps you in a warm hug of friends and family that soon whisks you out of your life and into the heart of theirs. The setting is beautifully drawn, and if this is your second visit there’s the opportunity to catch up with your favourite characters from the first book – that was rather a treat for me, but others will equally enjoy meeting them for the first time. Everything about this book is both heartwarming and uplifting – and if you’re thinking that the only other thing it needs is a lovable dog, I’m delighted to tell you that Toby most certainly fills that slot perfectly. The slow-burn romance with all its obstacles is quite beautifully done – very real, and with the perfect emotional touches.

This really was my kind of read – and one so many others would equally enjoy.

My first Sarah Bennett book was the first in this series and I knew it was going to be a wonderful set of books. Autumn dreams is a perfect next instalment as it focuses on Nerissa, who we met in the first book. I was thrilled to read her story and will certainly look forward to the next instalment – there’s a teaser at the end of this one.
The introduction of Tom, and his young family, brought a new dynamic to Mermaid’s Point. It created another opportunity to meet the wonderful characters that Sarah introduced in the first book. The extended Morgan family is becoming a firm favourite for me, it was wonderful to revisit Jake and Laurie and see their relationship continue to bloom.
Once again, the Mermaid legends play their part in bringing this story to its romantic conclusion, but not without drama. Of course, Sarah brings us a happy ending, she tied up all the loose ends and delivered the perfect conclusion. This is a gentle story which builds at the perfect pace.
Whilst this story deals with bereavement, there is a light theme of hope, that lurks around each sad element. I never felt overwhelmed by sadness, but certainly empathised with the pain that the characters were enduring. This lovely tale focuses on the ability to start again after devastating loss. Not everyone grieves in the same way, and recovery varies from one loss to another.
I thoroughly recommend this book and it can be read as a standalone story. Sarah Bennett is quickly becoming a firm favourite, for me. I hope you also manage to escape to Mermaid’s Point and soak up the magic in the air.

Set in a delightful village on the English shore, Autumn Dreams is a beautiful contemporary romance.

Is it ever too late for a second chance at love? Both the main characters are dealing with the loss of their first love. They certainly weren’t looking for a new relationship, but attraction can not be denied.

The story addresses loneliness, grief, and the effects of loss and sorrow on children and spouses.

There is a lovely bit of backstory woven throughout the book, making me instantly reach for the first book in the series. While I do wish I had read the earlier story, it’s not because this book doesn’t work as a standalone. The story, the setting, and the characters are so captivating, I need to read more about all of them.

Nerissa’s story is captivating. The heartbreaking loss of her fiancé followed by years of grief have the poor girl aged before her time. Tom, Emily, and Max are dealing with their own tragedy. When fate brings all these broken people together in Mermaids Point, healing magic is bound to happen.

There is also a scene-stealing pooch in this book. I laughed so many times at the humor brought to the “tale” by Toby.

I cannot wait to read more from this author!

Autumn Dreams at Mermaids Point by Sarah Bennett is a wonderful contemporary romance that was sweet, endearing, and a great addition to the Mermaids Point series.

Nerissa and Tom are such great characters. Both have experienced pain, loss, and difficulties. Both are missing that spark and ray of hope in their lives. Both are introduced to one another just when needed. I love how their relationship helps the other heal and move onward. They seem to really bring out the best in each other.

Such a sweet and romantic narrative that was perfectly balanced and paced.

I highly recommend this series.

After loving my first visit to Mermaid's Point, I couldnt wait to visit Laurie and her wonderful family again. This time we spend time with her beloved aunt Nerissa, as Doc prepares to retire and Nerissa is forced to reassess what she will do if she loses both her job and her home.

When the new Doctor arrives with his bereaved children, the residents of Mermaids Point soon get to work in welcoming them.

I loved spending time with Nerissa as we learn more about her broken heart from when she lost Gareth and she empathises with the Doctor's children over the loss of their mother. A story filled with love, loss, warmth and understanding, I found that once again I reached the end too quickly and already can't wait to revisit Mermaid's Point and spend more time with Laurie, Nerissa and their families.

Mostly enjoyed this addition to the mermaids point series. Tom and his family were a bit dopey. The ending seemed very cut odd, strange even. Nerissa’s fashion choices were…something. She’s only 43 not 65, give the woman some style even if it’s utilitarian.

Overall a quick and easy beach type read.

Don't let the character list put you off at the start of the book, although it is very useful you won't need to refer to it. You will slip right in to the well sculpted story. Really enjoyed my time at Mermaid's Point. The perfect antidote to the outside world and its troubles

I really loved this book. The two main characters, Nerissa and Tom, and their stories stole my heart and I was desperate for them to find the happiness they deserve.

The supporting characters all shone in their own way and it was great to be back at Mermaids Point. I can't wait to get reading book 3 in this heart warming series.

Sarah Bennett neemt haar lezers mee in Herfstdromen in Mermaids Point in het verhaal van Nerissa en Tom. De auteur geeft haar lezers meteen al veel achtergrondinformatie over haar karakters. Op zich geloofwaardig, maar niet altijd even nodig. De lijst met personages aan het begin van het boek is dan ook echt nodig. De vele personages kunnen tevens de focus op Nerissa en Tom wegnemen. Daarnaast mist de lezer de typische, herfstsfeer in het boek. De verhaallijn wordt voor een groot deel in maanden weergegeven. Er is een kleine verwijzing naar het eerdere boek over Mermaids Point, Zomerliefde in Mermaids Point. Hoewel er ook herkenbare scenes zijn, zullen met name jonge lezers juist daardoor misschien niet een directe klik met de karakters ervaren. Het duurt lang voordat er echt iets op romantisch vlak gebeurt. De relatieontwikkeling tussen Nerissa en Tom gaat langzaam. Het is logisch dat de groei tussen de hoofdpersonages langzamer gaat, omdat de karakters wel het een en ander al hebben doorstaan. Kortom, het heeft moeite met to-the-point komen. De focus ligt meer in het daadwerkelijk dromen over de niet al te verre toekomst, en dat is in deze context de herfst. Dit boek zal zich beter laten lezen, wanneer de zomer bijna ten einde is. Ondanks deze puntjes, is het boek de moeite waard, en werkt Bennett naar een aandoenlijk einde.

I have been a fan of Sarah’s work for a while now. I love the way in which she writes such fun, escapist and feel good stories. I loved the first book in the ‘Mermaids Point’ series, which is called ‘Summer Kisses At Mermaids Point’. So when I heard that the second book called ‘Autumn Dreams At Mermaids Point’ was due to be released, I knew that I had to read it just as soon as I could get my hands on a copy. Well I have just finished reading ‘Autumn Dreams At Mermaids Point’ and it is another corker of a read, which I thoroughly enjoyed reading but more about that in a bit.
It didn’t take me long at all to get into ‘Autumn Dreams At Mermaids Point’. In fact the moment I saw the title and Sarah’s name on the cover, I knew that I wouldn’t be putting the book down at all. As soon as I started reading the story, I was back at Mermaids Point and I felt as though I was among friends. I must be psychic because I didn’t put the book down at all. My Kindle wasn’t exactly glued to my hand but it might as well have been because it travelled everywhere with me. I just couldn’t bear to miss a single second of the delightful story. All too quickly I reached the end of ‘Autumn Dreams At Mermaids Point’ and I had to say farewell to Mermaids Point and the residents. I found ‘Autumn Dreams At Mermaids Point’ to be a delightful and charming read, which held my attention from start to finish.
‘Autumn Dreams At Mermaids Point’ is superbly written but then I think that to be true of all of Sarah’s books that I have had the pleasure of reading and reviewing. She has a writing style that is easy to get used to and easy to get along with. In fact reading one of Sarah’s books reads more like a chat between friends rather than reading an actual book. I that makes sense. Sarah creates delightful characters, who are so well described that they begin to feel just as real as you and I. Sarah describes ‘Mermaids Point’ so vividly and realistically that it just sounds like paradise and I was all set to pack a suitcase and travel down for a holiday. I felt as though I was part of the story which is all down to Sarah’s very vivid and realistic storytelling.
In short, I absolutely adored reading ‘Autumn Dreams At Mermaids Point’ and I would definitely recommend this book to other readers. I will certainly be reading more of Sarah’s work in the future. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 5* out of 5*.

Autumn Dreams at Mermaids Point is the second novel in the Mermaids Point series. While it is ideal to read the series together, this novel can be read as a standalone. I still need to read the first novel in the series, so this was my first adventure to Mermaids Point, but it will not be my last. This story follows 43-years-old Nerissa Morgan, who is a medical receptionist and live-in housekeeper at the local practice. When her boss decides to retire, she begins to worry about her future at the practice as it could possibly be sold to developers. While she is uncertain about her professional life, she believes that love, at least, is not in the cards. She lost her high school sweetheart, Gareth after he passed away when he was on a mission for the army.

Dr. Tom Nelson is in search for a new start after losing his wife, Anna. He decides to consider taking over the medical practice in Mermaids Point, but needs to also get the votes of his two children, Emily and Max. Tom is not only looking for a fresh start for himself away from his family’s previous home filled with memories in London, but he also wants to reconnect with his children. When Tom begins work at the medical practice, he and Nerissa begin to have an attraction for each other. With both of them dealing with grief of past loves, they need to figure out if they want to pursue a relationship with each other or not. They also have the additional obstacles of their families and their working relationship.

While there is the storyline for the will-they-won’t-they for Tom and Nerissa, the novel includes so much more. The exploration of Max and Emily trying to deal with the loss of their mother and even the idea of their father finding someone else was very well-done and I enjoyed their parts of the story. There is a nice theme of community, friendship, and family weaved throughout the story. There is a nice balance of heart-break and heart-warming moments and the pacing is well-done as I was invested in the story from start to finish without it feeling lagging in any place. Overall, Mermaids Point was a lovely setting filled with excellent characters and I cannot wait to revisit the location with more novels from the series! [4.5 rounded to 5]

Witty, warm-hearted and absolutely enchanting, it’s a joy to return to Mermaids Point for the latest installment in Sarah Bennett’s fabulous series set in this idyllic seaside community.

Nerissa Morgan had once thought she had her future mapped out. She was going to find her soulmate and spend the rest of her life with somebody who made all of her romantic dreams come true – until reality intervened and pulled the rug out from under her feet. With all her hopes and dreams for the future cruelly dashed, Nerissa had hardened her heart and now at forty-three feels as if life has passed her by. While everybody else seems to have moved on and achieved all of their objectives, Nerissa feels as if she is simply going through the motions. Nerissa hasn’t had much luck in the romance department, but at least she has her job managing the local doctor’s surgery. However, she shouldn’t get too comfortable because when her boss drops a bombshell, it looks like change could be coming to Mermaids Point – and Nerissa isn’t sure she can take any more stress and upheaval!

When I received this book as an advanced reader copy, I put it on hold and first read book one. I would advise that you do read the first book in this series, Summer Kisses at Mermaids Point, prior to reading book two. A reader can certainly understand everything in this book, without reading book one, but it would give them a better background.

Then, I was very happy to continue the series with this book. I really enjoy the village the author created and the lovely people that live there. This book has many of the characters from the previous book. I do want to add that at the beginning of this book there is a listing of characters for this series. I was really intimated by it, when I first saw it, and want to assure the potential reader to not be taken aback by it. You can certain read this book and the others in the series without the aid of a character listing. It is helpful, if you want to reference it, but many of the characters listed are in just one or two scenes, just to have the village life fully described. (For example, instead of saying "the grocer", the reader knows his name.)

This is a second chance at love story and the main two characters are a bit older than in most romance books. I actually like that quite a bit. Both Nerissa and Tom have had the "love of their life" early in their life. They do not think they will have that same type of relationship again, but fate has bought them together, and they do find that kind of love can be possible once again.

I really enjoyed this story so much. Of course, the romance story of Nerissa and Tom was a delight to read, but also the other characters added a lot to further the plot. Tom has two children who brought deeper understanding to the grief through the story. Also, Toby, a very energetic dog brings humor many times. Nerissa's family is a special group that will push in to help and they soon make other people part of their unit, which is such a blessing to the additions.

I definitely want to continue this series, and have pre-ordered book 3, to be released in October 2021.

This is another one for my Finishing The Series challenge...  I had somehow read the rest of the series already without realizing I had skipped book two, so I decided to finally do something about it and pick up Autumn Dreams At Mermaids Point for a little change of genre. I admit that I had forgotten about a lot of the characters, but there was a helpful glossary in the beginning and I soon remembered quite a bit about their background. I've always liked Nerissa as a character, so it was great to read her story as well as learn more about how Nerissa, Tom and his children first met. Having the dog Toby play such a prominent role in the plot was definitely a bonus! I do have to say that there was once again a bit too much drama to my taste, but that is probably just a personal pet peeve. The cast of characters itself is wonderful though, and it is very easy to warm up to them. I was able to fly through this story in less than a day, and it is the perfect easy and cozy contemporary romance for whenever you need a break. Sure, there is quite a lot of focus on grief in this particular sequel, but there are plenty of uplifting moments to balance things out and especially the bond between Nerissa and Tom's son Max is precious. Both the dog Toby and Nerissa's family are always there to brighten the day as well, and as a whole this turned out to be a very satisfying break in between thrillers.

This is book two in Sarah Bennett’s, Mermaids Point series.
It can be read as a stand alone story, but makes far more sense if you’ve read book one first.
A comprehensive list of characters at the front of this book, was helpful, especially to someone like me, who struggles to remember their own name some days!

Autumn Dreams, is Nerissa and Tom’s story.
We first met Nerissa in Summer Kisses At Mermaids Point. (Book 1 in the series).
Nerissa is in her early 40’s. Having lost the love of her life at a young age, she now devotes her life to her job and her extended family.
Will the changes going on around Nerissa, bring happiness to her life and allow her to let go of the past?

Tom is a London GP. He’s burried himself in work following the death of his beloved wife.
There comes a point where he realises that things need to change for him and his two children, Emily and Max. Could a move to Mermaids Point be the answer to all of their problems.

It was wonderful to step back into the comfort of Mermaids Point and especially to return to the Morgan family, who truely are the most welcoming, supportive and warm bunch of characters.

This is a story of second chances, love and the strength of family tues.

Autumn Dreams At Mermaids Point is a gentle story, that will warm your heart and make you smile. Mermaids Point is the most wonderful place to escape to, and the lovely, well written characters will make you want to stay there.

It was refreshing to read that Nerissa and Tom are both in their forties. They are still vibrant and have so much to offer.
The story has a multi generational cast of characters, that blend in well together and create a believable community of people.

I loved Nerissa and Tom’s story, but it did end sooner than I anticipated it would. I suspect though, that we may get to read more about their journey in book three. If you read to the very end of Autumn Dreams, you may find a little sneak peek at what’s to come.

Heart warming and thoroughly charming. Five glorious stars from me.

Nerissa Morgan, forty three and spinster of Mermaids Point. Her true love, her soul mate died many years previous before their lives had really begun. Nerissa has never really moved on it seems.

She is simple waking up and existing each day as the receptionist and live in housekeeper at Mermaids Point Doctors surgery. She doesn’t even need to go far, she has accommodation there as well. Her world is very small.

With the Doctor retiring, Nerissa needs to except the fact that everything is going to change. However she did not bargain for the handsome Tom Nelson to arrive into her life and her life getting much bigger.

Dr Tom Nelson has lost his wife, he threw himself into his work as a GP in London and neglected not just himself but also his two children, who were grieving for their mum. When an incident at school leads to some honest truths, Tom decides it is time to take a break. That break he decides will be a Mermaids Point.

Will it be for a week? Or will the magic of the place, the community and the possibility of his own mermaid in Nerissa, mean that the week will last a lot longer.

This is the second in the series of books set in Mermaids Point. Of course if you come to this book first, you will still find yourself drawn into the place and the wonderful characters that make up the Morgan family, which include Nerissa. It is great to see a woman of a certain age being the main protagonist in this story.

It was also lovely to still see plenty of the characters from the first book and that they were fully involved in the story and not just names mentioned as reference points like you can get in some series of novels. I always think this is what makes Sarah Bennett’s books stand out from some I read.

This is a lovely book of second chances, hope and how the sea can frighten and heal in equal measure and just maybe some dreams can come true, even if you have to wait a while for them! I could not help but fall in love with Mermaids Point and the Morgan family all over again with this book.

What happens?
When Tom relocates to become the new doctor at Mermaids Point with his two teenage children, the last thing on his mind is romance. However, sparks soon fly with live-in housekeeper/doctor’s receptionist, Nerissa. As everyone settles in, they try to deny their feelings, but if they take a chance and let go of the past and open their hearts again could love happen?

My thoughts
I loved the characters and the quirky little details that the author gave them, especially grumpy and stubborn Doc and Nerissa. That woman really has a heart of gold and a lot of patience. The other main characters such as Tom and his two teenage children really came alive. It was easy to sympathise with Tom, trying to reconnect and build bridges with his children after such a terrible tragedy. Nerissa’s past was also portrayed well, her grief was really believable and I liked how the author showed it still affected her everyday life.

I’m a huge small town romance fan and I enjoyed the lovely settings, such as the beach and the café. The book had a real community feel, with Nerissa’s big family, and friends seeming more like family, perfect armchair escapism. I liked that the characters were slightly older and in their forties. I’m in my thirties so I don’t want to see romance between twenty-somethings all the time anymore. The romance simmered away nicely just beneath the surface. When the tension between Tom and Nerissa boiled over it was electric.
Overall, it’s perfect autumnal reading, one to read with the central heating on and a cosy blanket. With thanks to Boldwood Books, Netgalley and Rachel’s Random Resources for this ARC, that I received in exchange for an honest review.

Autumn Dreams At Mermaids Point by Sarah Bennett is the most delightful contemporary novel. It is the second book in the Mermaid’s Point series but can be read as a stand-alone.
The novel has the dual themes of loss and new beginnings. No matter how much time has passed, grief is still raw. We have to learn how to live again and adapt to the new normal.
As a father of two, the lead character finds it hard to adapt to being the sole parent. His own grief and job as a busy London GP sometimes hampers his ability to deal with the grief of his children. A fresh beginning is what is required.
The fresh air of Mermaids Point contrasts with the closed atmosphere of London. The reader can almost ‘feel’ the salty air on our faces due to full descriptions by Sarah Bennett.
The characters were wonderfully and realistically drawn. Strangers receive warm welcomes as the hurting are held close to hearts. It is refreshing to have the lead characters in their forties.
It is important to live in the present. The past is gone and the future is not yet here.
Life at school can be hard when you are twelve and sixteen. Sarah Bennett has realistically portrayed the struggles, decisions and choices faced by the two school children. Peer pressure is huge as the children feel trapped by the system.
You never stop being a parent and caring. The reader watches a father- son relationship in need of repair after a misunderstanding thirty years earlier.
There is a wonderful dog who unites the characters, giving them a focus for expressions of love.
I always adore Sarah Bennett’s books and I loved Autumn Dreams At Mermaids Point.

This quote has stuck with me. I love the scene when this is used. There is always a way to let go of the inner feelings if you don't want to talk to anyone about it to make you feel better.

Nerissa is receptionist and housekeeper to Doc. With his passing age and retirement coming up, he wants to handover the practice to someone else. This oncoming change makes Nerissa afraid as it is not only her job but also roof over her head.
Dr. Tom lives in London with his 2 kids. They are still grieving the loss of his wife Anna and it has resulted in a communication and understanding gap between them. To be more in the life of his kids he takes them to Mermaids Point for a break and also seeing if things work out to takeover Doc's practice. Nerissa and Tom's this journey is sweet with undeniable attraction.

The characters in this book are lovable and easy to connect with. This is second in Mermaids Point but can be read as a standalone. But after reading this I am definitely going to read the first one. Sarah Bennett has written a beautiful book with great setting about family, pain, happiness, importance of communication and how people who care for you always have your back.

This is funny, sweet, fast paced and filled with love. It is about how two people find each other in unexpected way. It is about how things seem different on face and to have beautiful memories of the past. It is about how you hold onto love, give life a chance to bring happiness your way, give yourself a chance to be happy again.

I was beyond pleased to be able to return to Mermaids Point–or, “The Point”, as the inhabitants so lovingly call it. I previously read and reviewed Summer Kisses at Mermaids Point and just fell in love with the town and its people. The characters are all so endearing and I can’t help but just love every single one of them. However, even if you didn’t catch the first in this series, don’t let that deter you from reading this one. It can easily be read as a standalone.

The story starts out with Nerissa. Poor Nerissa is just a slave to her pain in the beginning of this book. She is holding on to a lost love and my heart broke for her. Add to that, her personality is one of servitude–she helps her niece at the cafe, she goes above and beyond for Doc, her boss; and when stranger, Tom shows up with his two children in tow, Nerissa immediately becomes a friend.

As for Tom, he’s dealing with his own struggles as a widower with two children. One, a teenage girl, is going through her own trauma. And Tom and his children just need a change. As a doctor, he finds that change in the town of Mermaids Point, when Doc is thinking about retirment.

From the start Tom and Nerissa have great chemistry and Nerissa and the children do, as well. All of these characters were broken-hearted in their own way and needed each other–all for different reasons.

In true Sarah Bennett fashion, the romance was sweet, the characters were charming, and the setting made me yearn for a place just like Mermaids Point. Do not hesitate to check out this delightful book and series! I can’t wait to read more!

🌊🏊Is everyone ready to move on? Sweet, family-oriented romance💞

This Sarah Bennett story is loaded with likable characters, small-town charm (leavened with a few grumps and busy bodies), and family togetherness. The principal characters are still in recovery mode after a loved one's death. One is a lifelong resident of the small coastal town, the other a widower with his two adolescent children who pick up sticks and leave London to try to turn over a new leaf in Mermaids Point.

The romance is restrained despite Nerissa and Tom's immediate attraction across a crowded pub when Tom and his kids first arrive in town. I felt the couple's declaration of their feelings was a sudden, rushed scene; I would have liked a bit more. Probably the best part of this story for me was Nerissa and Tom's emotional connection with the children, Emily and Max. The kids are still having a hard time with the concept of moving on without feeling guilty about abandoning their beloved, dead mother. Both Tom and Nerissa take real pains to provide comfort and guidance.

I did not read the first book in this series; it was not necessary to enjoy this storyline focusing on Nerissa and the new town Doc's family. I have, however, read several books by the author from other series and she seems to consistently succeed at creating sweet, family-oriented romances and strong backstories for her characters.

This is the second book in the Mermaids Point series but I will say, having not read the first myself, it is completely stand alone. In this one we meet Nerissa Morgan who has lived her entire life in Mermaids Point. Now, at 43 she still works at the local doctor’s office. Having lost her only love when they were both young she never found anyone who came close to what she felt for Garreth.

Then there is Tom, who comes to Mermaids Point as the new doctor. Him and his children also know what it is to lose the love of your life having lost his wife three years earlier. That puts Tom and Nerissa right in the path of one another.

This was one of the sweetest romances I have read. neither Tom or Nerissa is looking for love. They both had their once in a lifetime and lost it. Yes, they are lonely but they are so wrapped in their personal grief and memories they struggle with the attraction between them.

Sarah Bennett does an amazing job of describing the town as well as the people. It made me want to move there. Everyone is friendly and while the book is sweet, it is not so sweet to make you want to gag. The sweetness and easy going manner makes this book flow. I think it would have been a different book without that.
