She's being pursued by everyone, in more ways than one.
Even in an exotic world of humans, jaguars, and tantalizing creatures who shift between the two, Maya Anderson stands out from the crowd. Interest from human suitors is bad enough, but when male shifters give chase, the real trouble starts.
Who's the hunter and who's the prey?
Investigating the black marketing trade of exotic animals keeps Wade Patterson more than busy. When he and Maya both get entangled in a steamy jungle mission, it becomes impossible to tell who is being hunted or who the hunters are. Wade is desperate to survive this deadly game of cat and mouse. But it's Maya's piercing eyes that keep him awake at night.
Love, love, love romance, the paranormal, hunky Highlanders with their delicious brogue and hot kilts, so Terry Spear writes about those hunky Highlanders both in medieval times and as wolves in contemporary times. Jaguar shifters too! And young adult urban fantasy. And romantic suspense.
She grew up reading mystery, adventure, mythologies from around the world, ghost stories, the paranormal, fell in love with Dracula and Wolfman, and felt they needed loving too. Everyone should have someone to love. Which means her stories always have a HEA.

Jaguar Fever is book two in the Heart of the Jaguar series by Terry Spear.
Connor and Kat have gone back to the jungle for a vacation. And Maya is supposed to follow one day later. Connor has left her alone for one night. So you would think she could stay out of trouble, right? Not Maya! She has discovered a bar that is frequented by shifters like herself. And she wants to meet other eligible male shifters. Also, she has been contacted by two long lost cousins so they are going to meet her there. But she didn’t anticipate the reaction she would get from the single male shifters when a new wild jaguar shifter enters the bar. And, she didn’t anticipate running into Wade Patterson.
Wade and his brother David are going to the bar on a job. Little did he know that this would be the night Maya Anderson would walk back into his life. Its been five months since they got back from the Amazon jungle. They never really met but they knew each other’s scent. Wade had been under the impression that Maya was romantically involved with Connor, not that they were brother and sister. So once he realizes that Maya is single and available, he knows he wants her.
“I haven’t been in a good catfight in years.” Wade glanced in the rearview mirror at Maya. “But the prize this time was definitely worth fighting for.”
There are men out there that like to capture jaguars from the wild, and sell them to men that arrange for hunters to pay huge sums of money and hunt and kill the jaguars. Wade, David, and Maya’s new cousins are members of an elite team that are trying to infiltrate and take down this ring. And, Maya has walked right into the middle of it. At the same time, Wade is trying to win the trust of Maya. There is an undeniable attraction between them but Maya is afraid of commitment. She never even knew her father. How could she trust that Wade wouldn’t break her heart? And, her brother, Connor has kept her so shielded that she thinks she needs to date other shifters. She’s never even known any others besides Wade. But she can’t deny that she feels something for Wade.
“The only sounds were the tropical birds, twittering, howler monkeys calling out to one another, and two shifters’ hearts beating hard as one.”
Terry Spear is expert and crafting the perfect shifter romance. Her super sexy shifters will steam up your e-reader. And the suspense will have you gripping the arm of your chair. This book took us again from the Anderson’s tropical garden in Texas to the wilds of the Amazon. The third book in the series is due out in June and I will be first in line to read it.
Maya Anderson has recently discovered that her and her brother are not alone. For a long time they believed themselves to be the only jaguar shifters left.
Wade Patterson is the ultimate shifter special forces. Protecting shifters and their way of life. Now he has his sights on Maya. When Maya decides to adventure out to a shifter bar, Wade's possessive feelings jump to the forefront. Knowing Maya needs more time to accept her new knowledge of the shifter community is one thing, watching the other shifters buzz around her like bees is another.
When Maya gets into some hot water with poachers, Wade pulls out all the stops to keep Maya safe.
This is a wonderfully steamy romance and an action-packed adventure with shifters while Spear's sneaks in an environmental twist. The sexual tension and interaction is blush worthy. Spear's descriptive writing makes you feel like you are running through the jungles of Belize right along with the jaguars. Another must read from Terry Spear, Jaguar Fever will get your temperature rising.
I received this ARC copy of Jaguar Fever from Sourcebooks Casablanca in exchange for an honest review. This book is set for publication on August 6, 2013.
I liked this paranormal romance with a good plot and a couple of exciting parts but the romance was kind of bland and combined with a few lulls in the action, I found myself frequently distracted from the story. Special agent Wade sees Maya, both jaguar shifters, in a bar and learns she is the sister not the wife of a guy from his previous case so he sets his sights on her.
I’ve always been fascinated by jaguars (the cat, not the car). Their sleek bodies, the way they move – jaguars are the ultimate predators of the jungle. So when the opportunity to read Jaguar Fever by Terry Spear presented itself, I jumped at the chance. I enjoyed Ms. Spear’s Heart of the Wolf series, so I knew that I would be in for a treat.
Jaguar Fever is the second book in Ms. Spear’s Heart of the Jaguar series. Don’t let this put you off if you are an “OCD must read series in order” type of reader. All of Ms. Spear’s books can be read as standalone books – you can even jump around in her series without feeling lost.
Jaguar Fever is a sexy story with an environmentalist slant. It seems that someone is smuggling jaguars from their natural habitats (and even zoos) and using the poor creatures as target practice for a rich man’s safari hunt. Wade and David Patterson are investigating the case at the Jungle Cat Fever Club, an aptly named jaguar shifter club. At the club, Wade meets Maya and is instantly smitten. Maya plays hard to get. She’s not really ready for commitments.
Once the mating dance filled with misunderstandings, alpha caveman moments, and dangerous situations is done, Maya and Wade are sizzling hot together. By the way, Ms. Spears writes some pretty hot sexy scenes. *fans self*
I think that I’d like to explore the resort in Belize where Maya, her brother Conner, and his pregnant mate Kat stayed at. It sounds absolutely heavenly, and perfect for cats.
Jaguar Fever was an enjoyable read for me. The last third of the book was action-packed, edge of your seat exciting. I can’t wait for more books in this series!
Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks for a review copy of this book.
In this sophomore effort for the series Maya is just as free-spirited as she was in the previous release and now that she's found other jaguar shifters to befriend/date/hang out with the only jaguar shifter she wants to spend real time with is Wade Patterson, the illusive and former possible mate for Kat. This couple sizzled especially after Wade found out Maya's true relationship to Connor. It was good to get more information on Wade since he was such a key player in the previous release, he came off as quite the alpha. Wade, his brother David, and some long lost Anderson cousins are actually agents that work security for the jaguar shifter species and they inform Maya that there are hunters near the family vacation spot prompting a trip to Belize! The writing this time out was more confident and the plot denser as the series quickly finds its footing. The pacing was great but I would have been happier with it even a tad more rapid and the secondary characters were practically panting for their individual star turns. I thought the action, romance and thriller pieces of the story were equally balanced and perfectly twined for a great reading flow. There was so much more for me to like this time out as the world expanded with the shifter community, including the nod to sister series Heart of the Wolf. Maya was delightful as the focal point of this read and got to show more of her personality in a setting that played to her strengths. I really look forward to this world becoming as rich and layered as its sister series.
Jaguar Fever is book two in the Heart of the Jaguar series by Terry Spear. I adore Ms. Spear, love her Heart of the Wolf series and will always re-read one of her works. This is a re-read and I enjoyed it again. We get a sweet romance and a little action.
Wade is an alpha, sexy, dominate and smart. He is protective and territorial of what he deems his. He has a great relationship with his brother David, providing the perfect amount of family ties, sarcasm and humor.
Maya I liked her in Savage Hunger. She is/was determined to see her brother hooked up, so she could start looking for a mate of her own. She is strong and a dominate heroine, however she makes a few decisions you want to smack her for.
I love that we get such great family dynamics with Conoor and Kat returning as well as the new characters being added. I like the easy camaraderie and banter between them all and how they develop and grow as the story progresses. The relationship is a quick blooming one, since both where introduced in book one Savage Hunger, so their semi-relationship is carried over into this one. I like that we get to learn more about the Jaguar shifter world too.
These books are the perfect reads for me, especially when I don’t have a lot of time on my hands or need to de-veg from an awful or tough read. Ms. Spears knows how to create a fun world full of sexy interesting shifters with the right amount of suspense, action, and romance.
Jaguar Fever is typical Terry-Spear-shifter-fun: steamy romance, danger, fast paced adventure, and despicable villains the good guys can sink their teeth into!
When Maya Anderson makes her first visit to a shifter bar, chance encounters ignite an explosive chain of events. Wildlife officer Henry Thompson is at the club investigating photos of a female jaguar posted on Maya’s web site. Shifters Wade and David Patterson are at the bar working undercover to catch poachers making big money by smuggling live jaguars into Texas for use in illegal pay-for-play, big game hunts. When Wade and Maya meet, it is lust at first sight, but Wade would like more. Poaching suspects are there, too, and one sets his sights on Maya.
When she joins her brother, Conner, and his mate, Kathleen, on vacation in Belize, they inadvertently end up on the poacher’s hunting grounds and in the middle of the action. Can Wade keep Maya safe while tracking the poachers? Can Maya keep Wade a distance and protect her heart?
Although she is a damsel-in-distress, Maya is also a strong and spunky shifter female, which adds spice to the adventure and makes it a challenge for Wade to win her over. I thoroughly enjoyed Wade and Maya's story, but am also looking forward to seeing more of Wade's brother David (Book 3, perhaps?)...
Jaguar Fever is Book 2 of the Heart of the Jaguar series, but the story stands well alone. It is not essential to first read Book 1 (Savage Hunger). Connor and Kat's story continues (from Book 1), and readers may remember wildlife officer Henry Thompson from Spear’s Heart of the Wolf. If you are a fan of shifter romance and adventure, I recommend Jaguar Fever. - Delta
** MINOR spoilers, which you'd find out in the first 40 pgs) **
All right, I didn't read the first book but have been anxiously waiting for this one for months, since it sounded cool. Well, wasn't anything worth waiting for!
I had to stop after about 40 pages, cause there was so much wrong with the way this was written it wasn't funny. First, the 'bad impression' Wade apparently has given Maya didn't seem to faze either of them much - no mean comments, no glares or cold looks, and all cleared up in about 2 pages by Wade's brother. No conflict to move past, NOT EVEN when Wade and Maya both admit he was interested in her sister in law, Kat (from book one) when he met them in the Amazon, because apparently they were both wrong and he's now interested in Maya? What?
And, though Maya and Wade are basically strangers, she's asking him about his mother's death and if he as an operative sees the murderer in every bad guy he kills...and he ANSWERS HER - like, who asks stuff like that within less than an hour of meeting someone? And who answers?
The attraction between Maya and Wade is so complicated as to be basically non existent: she liked him, but didn't do anything, and he wanted to have Kat, but then still thought Maya was hot, and now he wants her since he lost Kat, and she's all like, "Oh, OK!" but then she decides to smexy dance with other guys at the club... I just had a big W. T. F. going on in my head.
Anyways, I thought it was ridiculous and unrealistic, so I would not recommend this book. Go find other, better, shifter romances.
Jaguar Fever is the second book in the Heart of Jaguar series by Terry Spear, though it can be easily read without reading the first book. I really enjoyed this book and the journey as the romance developed between Wade and Maya. Both are born Jaguar shifters. Maya, along with her brother Conner and his wife Kat find themselves caught up in the case that Wade and his brother David are working. They travel from the city of Houston to the jungles of Belize and the story is both fun and interesting. There is danger, romance and sex. The chemistry between Maya and Wade is sizzling. Wade is an Alpha male yet he has a soft side, especially when it comes to Maya. Maya is a fun character and pairs well with Wade. She is fun, independent, caring and strong. Their romance is tender and sexy and weaves within all the elements of the story beautifully.
The cast of characters in Jaguar Fever is a good one and I enjoyed the interplay between all of them. I hope to see more of David and Maya’s cousins in future books. Jaguar Fever is a great addition to the series and it was one of those books that I found myself staying up late to finish. I look forward to the next book by Terry Spear.
Jaguar Fever is recommended to fans of Paranormal Romance.
I adore Terry Spear, I love the Heart of the Wolf series so I knew this would be a winner!
Wade is the ultimate alpha. Sexy, dominate, smart, and territorial when it comes to what he deems as his. The relationship with his brother, David, is perfectly written adding some sarcasm, comedy, and family ties to the novel.
Maya is a strong and dominate heroine, however, she does make some decisions that make you want to smack your forehead. Lol! Connor (Maya's brother) and Kat (Maya's sister-in-law) add to the family dynamics. Which is one of Spears great gifts to her readers. Given time she will tie all her shifters together which makes the storyline all the more interesting.
My reason for rating this a 4 instead of a 5 is of my own ignorant doing. I should have read book 1, Savage Hunger, first. I am a big one for romance novels where the hero has to work to get the heroines permission to proceed....intimately. For me this went to far to fast, however, I have a feeling if I had read book 1 first my opinion would have been different ;)
There is a high level of suspense, a ton of alpha romance, a touch of jealousy, and a some sarcastic/funny jaguar shifters to be found in this winning series.
I have been a fan of Ms. Spear’s writing for a while now so I always get excited when I see she has a new book coming out. So when I saw this book several months ago I knew I had to snatch it up! From the cover to the very last page I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
Now that Maya Anderson knows she and her brother aren’t the only jaguar shifters she is eager to meet and get to know as many as she can. Only Wade Patterson has a different idea. He wants to be the only one she is focused on. Now he has to keep her safe from poachers while slowly showing Maya how good it is between them.
Jaguar Fever is the second book in the Heart of the Jaguar series, a wonderful addition I might add. It can be read as a standalone but I feel you would get more enjoyment if you read this book after the first one. That is what I did and I feel it helped me to connect with the characters faster. I am looking forward to the next book in this romantic shifter series.
A suspense-filled, action-packed shifter story you won't want to miss! Taken from my review at RomanceJunkies.com:
Jaguar shifters Wade Patterson and his twin brother, David, are members of the Golden Claws, an elite organization that protects those of their kind. Their new assignment is to go to Belize, where hunters are targeting jaguars, despite the fact that it is illegal there. But first, they must check out a nightclub where the hunters are rumored to gather. The last person Wade expects to encounter while there is Maya. Months ago, he had come to the rescue of Maya and her brother Connor. At the time, Wade had also expected to hook up with a female named Kat, whom he believed to be a shifter, but the attraction between Connor and Kat had been so intense that Wade did not have a chance with her. At the time, Wade had believed that Connor was already married to Maya and had been furious on both women’s behalf, especially due to his instant attraction to Maya.
Maya’s mother had kept her two children protected, so Maya and her brother Connor did not have much interaction with other jaguar shifters. Maya had not even seen any other jaguar shifters until she met Wade in Belize months previously. She had been attracted to the man, but saw that he had been there for Kat, who ended up marrying Connor. Later, she and her brother figured out that Wade mistakenly assumed that she was already married to Connor. With the happily married couple in Belize once again, Maya has the night free before joining them in Belize the following day. Having discovered she has cousins, she agrees to meet them at a nightclub she has never visited before. Seeing Wade and his brother there is quite a shock. But before the night was over, she leaves the club with Wade and David, after causing a brawl.
The next day, Maya, Wade and David are sharing a flight to Belize and she is eager to warn her brother about the hunters. The chemistry between Maya and Wade cannot be denied and things quickly turn heated. Wade wants to make their relationship permanent, but Maya, although deeply attracted to Wade, wants the chance to date other shifters. After all, Wade is the first shifter she has dated. With danger on their doorstep, can Wade convince Maya to spend the rest of her life with him, or will she turn her back on what they could have together?
Scorching hot, JAGUAR FEVER, the second book in award winning author Terry Spear’s HEART OF THE JAGUAR series, is an action-packed, sensual contemporary romance. This story captured my attention from the very beginning to the point that I found it nearly impossible to put it down until I reached the very satisfying ending. Maya and Wade are perfectly suited and the sensual scenes between them are explosive. With his twin brother in love, I couldn’t help feeling bad for David, so I look forward to reading his story. Danger, action, suspense, passion, shifters, and love all mesh together within a lush, exotic background for a delectable story that readers will not soon forget. Ms. Spear’s gifted storytelling prose puts readers in the midst of the action, able to envision running through the jungles of Belize along with the jaguars. This well-written story can be read as a standalone, but for additional insight into the characters and further enjoyment, readers should also check out the first book in this series, JAGUAR HEAT. A delightful story, JAGUAR FEVER is one you won’t want to miss!
The Cats are back in all their sensual, sinuous, sensational glory!! Terry Spear returns to her Jaguars in Jaguar Fever and boy does it sizzle. There is something about cat shifters.. they are just have this sleek suppleness to their characters that attracts me. Not sure why as if I were a pet person I would have dogs not cats.. And I do like those wolves.. but the cat shifters are special.
In Jaguar Fever Ms Spear continues the story of the Anderson siblings. Now that Connor and Kat are happy and settled Maya is looking for a mate of her own. But first she wants to shop around. Having discovered she has cousins Maya arranges to meet with them at a local shifter bar, something she had no clue even existed.. and once there all sorts of trouble starts.
Maya has lead a rather isolated life.. her mother was left alone to raise Connor and Maya.. and rather than live with other Jaguars she raised them outside the community. Maya had no idea there even was a Jaguar community. Having met her first ever shifter on a trip to South America a year ago. Now she is excited to know there is not only a community but they have cousins! Now that she knows there is so much to offer, Maya wants to check out her options, see what's available but one of the first people she sees when she walks into the bar is Wade Patterson. The same shifter who helped them out last summer.
Wade Patterson, is the kind of guy who takes care of his own. A strong sense of family and community. So much so he works for the shifter police.. as a sort of cat of all trades, track em, enforce em, protect em and punish em... But he's ready to settle down and still a bit raw from meeting the Anderson's last year. It just doesn't seem fair that Connor Anderson gets two women and the rest of them don't get any. When Maya Anderson walks into the bar he is with his brother all alone and looking sexy, Wade is just ready to gobble her up. Too bad he is on assignment.
This book has it all.. action, fantasy, romance, friendship and yes humor. There was even a character from her wolf shifter series.. and you just had to feel for this poor human cuz that man was confused..
From Houston to the Amazon and back again, Wade and Maya along with their families are seeking out those men who illegally capture Jaguars and bring them back to Texas to use as game for big game hunters. An international intrigue that helps this story sizzle.. yep I said it again.. We also get to meet several other Jaguars so I am hoping for more stories.. I am sure Ms Spear has plans for them, she couldn't just leave them aout there neglected.
Great read, fun story, excellent characters!! Check it out

This review is based on the ARC of Jaguar Fever provided by netgalley and scheduled for release on Aug 6, 2013
Terry Spear is one of my favorite authors when it comes to shapeshifters. Her werewolves have a definite spot on my keeper shelf. This is my first time reading her jaguars. While I like this book, I think it’s going to be difficult to eclipse her wolves.
To be honest, I’m not sure why this book doesn’t rate up there with Ms. Spear’s wolves. Every one of those I absolutely love, no question. Plus, I’m a cat person, so this book/series should be right up my alley. What I think the stumbling block for me is the hero, Wade. Not that he’s not a hero to love. He’s the typical shifter alpha, protective, sexy and handsome. Now, don’t go all feminist on me here. What doesn’t sit right with me about Wade is how he’s too lax in letting Maya get away too often because she’s not ready to commit. Yes, it’s gentlemanly of him to stand back while she ruminates over things, but Maya ruminates a lot. She’s cautious and hesitant, but when the chips are down she doesn’t pussyfoot around.
So maybe my problem is with Maya. She’s her own woman, even though she’s been sheltered most of her life in the Amazon jungle away from humans and those of her kind. She’s curious about other cats, and when she’s checking out a local shifter club, that’s where she runs into Wade after his mission in the Amazon months before when they originally met. She’s attracted to Wade from the beginning, and that only grows as they pursue men who hunt big cats for sport. Even after their sizzling lovemaking, Maya holds back, issues about her parents’ union upper most in her mind. She actually draws her indecision out much too long for me. And that Wade doesn’t move into alpha mode sooner also put a damper on things for me.
Wade’s brother David is a great secondary character, a great foil for Wade, always teasing him but knowing to stay the distance away from Maya lest Wade’s beast takes a few swipes at him. There is a recurring character from the wolf shifter books, a zookeeper who takes in wounded animals, only to mysteriously lose them. Even when he comes close to learning the shifters’ secret, Ms. Spear cuts him off at the knees and keeps him in the dark. It will be interesting to see what she does with him in future books. The storyline itself is a good one, just not as good as others before it. That being said, there are some action-packed scenes late in the book when our characters meet the bad guys and put them in their place.
So while I have a few issues with this story, it’s still Terry Spear’s shifters, with most of the signature highlights her readers expect. Maybe I’m a wolf girl. But I’ll wait for the next book in this series before I make up my mind.
As a werewolf fanatic I don’t typically read a lot of books that feature their arch nemesis, cats, but Terry Spear weaves a compelling tale of love and danger while also drawing attention to important issues facing jaguars in Central America. This novel manages to be both sexy and educational at the same time which is an odd combination in itself but in this instance it works.
The shifter lore is straightforward but still detailed enough to really capture the essence of what it means to be cat in Spear’s Heart of the Jaguar series. I enjoyed learning the differences between “city” and “wild” felines, and I found both the name and concept of the Golden Claw JAG Elite Force very cute. The author also uses this book as an opportunity to educate readers on some of the problems jaguars face as an endangered species and being an animal lover myself, I appreciated her willingness to incorporate a slice of reality into her fiction.
This book has fantastic character dynamics; I loved the interactions between the couples, brothers and women. There’s so much variety that it’s easy to get caught up in their dialogue. I was surprised by how much I actually liked Maya; we first meet her in the middle of the dance floor at a club attracting men like sex is on sale and I automatically labeled her a “party girl” and she is that but in a light-hearted, I-just-want-to-have-fun kinda way that’s actually quite endearing. I found her free-spirited nature rather contagious and enjoyed living vicariously through her. The men didn’t draw my attention nearly as much but they still had their uses if you know what I mean. *wink*
I found that the plot was a little underwhelming; it talked a big game but failed to live up to its true potential. Spear tried to work in too many plot threads and many of them were left unfinished which left me feeling unfulfilled. On the other hand, I did enjoy the world building and I loved Spear’s in-depth descriptions of Belize and the jungle; it’s a setting that I don’t visit often in my day-to-day reading so it was a nice change of scenery.
Even though this book didn’t wow me it still managed to hit all of the key elements that I look for in a good Paranormal Romance. This was my first Terry Spear novel and I doubt that it will be my last; if she can manage to get me excited about jaguars I’m eager to see what her wolves have to offer in her Heart of the Wolf series.
JAGUAR FEVER is the second storyline in the Heart of the Jaguar series by Terry Spear. Although it is the second installment, it can be read as a stand alone without too much difficulty. Some of the previous storyline characters play secondary roles, but any pertinent information is revealed throughout this particular novel. This story focuses on Maya Anderson and Wade Patterson who were introduced in book one-Savage Hunter.
The storyline focuses on the Patterson brothers and more specifically alpha he-man Wade Patterson, as he and his brother David, search for a group of people who have been illegally importing wild jaguars for a hunting ranch in the USA. But Wade will find himself face to face with the woman who stirred something deep within his heart-Maya Anderson-another jaguar shifter who hopes to reconnect with Wade for a few days of hot passionate sex without any ties.
The writing style is simple and the plot predictable. This is a story about a special forces shifter unit hoping to stop the illegal poaching of a big game cats, but will all too soon find themselves the hunted as well as the hunter. The environmental issues of endangered species is an integral part of the storyline with issues pertaining to illegal poaching, importing and the sale of wild animals to collectors and hunters.
The storyline takes place between Belize and the USA where Terry Spear takes the reader on a journey through the underbrush and jungles of two different continents. The flow and pacing are steady; there are several chase and actions scenes culminating in retribution and a revenge; as well as the push and pull of sexual attraction. And like the animals of the wild, our leading couple know what it is they want from each other.
With this particular storyline, Terry has introduced several more potential players including three male and two female shifters without mates, so you know the series will continue for several more books.
Terry Spear introduces the reader to sexy feline shifters; a special forces JAG unit that oversees the world of the cat; and a series with a little action, a little suspense, a little romance and a little sex.
So...I went from book one (freebie) to immediately buying and finishing book two. I must have been somewhat impressed with the world that the author created to do that!
Much like the last book, I'd say this is a solid 3 1/2 stars (still hoping for the ability to do half stars one day). The men in it are absolutely hot. Although the book was centered around Wade and Maya's relationship, the supporting cast of characters was strong - we were introduced to cousins and brothers - and the idea of the organization that polices jaguar shifters - which means there's bound to be more hot men in store for us in the future.
My only real issue with this book is Maya - how on earth did she go for wanting a mate like yesterday (book one) to being wishywashy in book two? I mean, obviously she got over it, but I still was shaking my head on that one.
Is this a standalone book? I believe you could definitely read this as a standalone book. Even though Maya was a pretty big supporting character in book two and Wade played a very small role (we never even got to meet him in person, only on email!), this book doesn't really have any carryover story from book one. I think you'd quickly understand who Connor and Kat were (only characters that were in book one) so you wouldn't feel completely lost.
Do I plan on continuing the series? Yes, I do. I was actually just getting ready to go price book three and check to see when book four was being released (yeah, I was late to the party, what can I say?). I may not read either of them immediately because if I do, then I'm going to be in that dang position where I end up waiting for book 5. I don't like waiting- I'm an impatient reader.
Would I recommend the book/series? I'd recommend only to someone who likes paranormal romance in their reading. Although there's action, if you don't like that mystical world of shapeshifters, you could potentially not appreciate the world that the author has created.
This was a pretty quick read for me - granted, I took the day off, but I found it a hard book to put down. I kept wanting to know what was going to happen.

I was first introduced to Terry Spear when I discovered the Heart of the Wolf Series. When I found out that she was the author for Jaguar Fever I was glad for the chance to read and review this title. Jaguar Fever, which is a paranormal romantic suspense, is the second book in the Heart of The Jaguar series and it can be read as a stand alone.
The story is set in Houston Texas and Belize. The locations, especially the the jungle in Belize helped to enhance the story and helped reads to understand how jaguars behave in their natural habitat.
Character development was ok. I like how the author built on each of the characters and how she developed on the familial relationship that existed between Wade and his twin brother David and Maya and her brother Connor.
Wade is a jaguar shifter who works for a top secret organization whose purpose is to bring to justice to rogue shifters. Maya is also a jaguar shifter who has lived in the wild all her life. She decided that she wanted to be in the city where she could meet other shifters and have some fun. The chemistry between Wade and Maya was hot and sizzling. Wade wanted to see Maya exclusively but she was more interested in dating several shifters. Her reason for this had to do with her parent’s relationship. The romance between Wade and Maya was realistic and adequately developed.
The storyline was very interesting. It was an easy and fast paced read. There was lots of action, but there was no element of surprise. It was easy to figure out who the villains were.
Miss Spear’s writing style as usual is very detailed and descriptive. She has a way of making her characters appear realistic. I felt as if I was actually a part of the story. Jaguar Fever is an exciting read and worth every moment spent reading it. This book is a must read for lovers of paranormal romance.
Author Terry Spear creates a magical realm where paranormal existence becomes realistic. Her ability to blend fantasy and reality into a spine tingling story will having you believing.
Wade and David Patterson, brothers and jaguar shifters, are members of an elite Special Forces group that keeps watch over their kind while working to keep their secret from humans. Their current mission deals with finding a group who has been illegally importing wild jaguars into the states for a hunting ranch.
Maya Anderson, a jaguar shifter, is looking to connect with relatives she didn’t know she had. Her goal is to enjoy herself a bit out from under her brother’s constant control.
When Wade and Maya reconnect, the attraction that eluded them months before in the jungle surfaces. As Maya, her brother and his wife get caught in the crossfire between the Special Forces unit and the hunters, things become explosive. The mission travels to Belize and back again for a steamy adventure.
Spear has crafted realistic characters not overshadowed by their paranormal abilities. They’re well developed with flaws and spirit. The secondary characters add flavor to this romance heighten by suspense.
An eye for authentic detail, Spear’s extensive research comes through in the distinct descriptions of both locations and jaguar actions. Detailing the sights and sounds of the jungle places the reader in the midst of the action.
JAGUAR FEVER is an action-driven story with twists along the way for surprises. The suspense is captivating and the romance is steamy. The interaction among the characters is sprinkled with humor for a well-blended story that will put jaguars in a totally different light.
FTC Full Disclosure - This book was sent to me by the publisher in hopes I would review it. However, receiving the complimentary copy did not influence my review.
“Jaguar Fever” by Terry Spear is the entertaining sequel to “Savage Hunger” and is another delicious jaguar shapeshifting tale involving the Anderson family. Maya Anderson has been searching for a little freedom from her overprotective brother, Connor, and now that he has found his mate she thinks she may have her opportunity. Wade Patterson is a member of the Golden Claw JAG which is an elite force that governs jaguar shifters, and he is tracking an exotic animal smuggling ring when he sees the woman who captured his attention during his last mission and discovers that he has some misconceptions to overcome. They discover that their personal and professional pursuits may complicate and endanger their relationship and their lives if they can’t find the criminals who pose a danger to jaguars and shifters in more than one country.
This fun paranormal romance combines vivid descriptions of exotic locales with a suspenseful tale that continues to explore the intriguing world of jaguar shifters. It is lovely to get glimpses of the characters from the previous book as their lives continue to evolve and the Anderson family seems to be growing even more. Wade is a yummy representative of his branch of the shifter government and it was fascinating to see the convergence with another of this author’s shifter series as allusions are made to the werewolf pack in Oregon and events that have taken place there. The dangers to be found in the jungle and the inherent power of jaguars are sobering reminders that are strikingly described in this tale. This is a great addition to the genre as the author’s research into these fascinating exotic felines shines through her story and I look forward to additional tales in this series.
A copy of this title was given to me (and I am EXTREMELY remiss in having posted the review for some inexplicable reason)
I love me a shifter romance, and this one didn't disappoint! Jaguar Fever was super hot, sweet, and full of shifter danger and fun. I really enjoyed this wonderful paranormal romance.
Maya was a lovely heroine. She was easy to like. She was a strong character, for one because, if you piss her off, she can shift into a jaguar and claw you to pieces. But, also with other shifters, she refused to let anyone walk all over her. She was clever, not prone to dramatics (thank goodness) and really likable. I thought she was a great character.
Wade was also amazing. He had a way of stealing the scene whenever he was on the page. He was just very intense and a force to be reckoned with. Not to mention, this guy is on fire hot. And, he could also be very sweet when he wanted to be. I thought he was wonderful and I adored him.
The romance was scorching. To say these two had explosive chemistry would be an understatement. Whenever they were together, the page caught fire from all the sparks flying between Maya and Wade. And, beyond all that spicy, these two were a lovely, sweet couple. I thought they were perfect together.
The plot was fast paced and I was hooked the entire way through. The mystery of who was hunting the jaguars and why kept things on edge and gave us plenty of thrills. I loved the story and the ending was wonderful. After reading this book, I'm excited for the next book in the series.
Jaguar Fever was a fantastic shifter romance. I loved reading this amazing book. Lovers of the genre, this is a book you'll definitely want to read.

I love Terry’s wolves, but the Jaguars shifters in this book did not grasp me like her wolves do all the time. Don’t get me wrong, I liked Maya, but she tended to be stubborn and not trusting males due to what her father did to her mother, and it made me question why her father did what he did. Wade was just not my favorite male character, but that is because he tended to be trying to get in trouble with Connor, Maya’s brother. Don’t mess with the brother. I also felt some parts of Jaguar Fever were rushed when reading it, especially when it came to the ending, but other than that, the book was a delightful read. I finished it in less than one day. I did like the twist at the end with the other jaguar because I was not expecting that at all. I was more intrigued by David when he was introduced. David is Wade’s brother, and well, let’s say there is something about him that makes me want to read his book. He was able to push Wade into finally realizing what he wanted from Maya. He also liked to push Wade when it came to making him jealous. He was my favorite in the story. I give this book four full moons and recommend it to paranormal romance readers, especially readers who have a thing for steamy, hot Jaguar shifters.
I look forward to reading the next book in the Heart of the Jaguar series, and here’s hoping it is David. =) I look forward to reading the next book in the Heart of the Jaguar series...here's hoping it is David. =)
I have found that my interests have expanded greatly in recent months, and a lot of that is due in part Ms. Spear’s incredible diversity when it comes to writing series. I seems that I’ve stumbled upon a new love…jaguar’s.
Wade Patterson had met Maya six months earlier while he protected her and her brother Connor in the Amazon, but she probably wouldn’t recognize him now, at least by sight. He had only been in his jaguar form and had never been close to her. He, however, would never forget a single inch of her. He was in her home state of Texas on assignment with The Service, an elite group of jaguar shifters who policed their own kind. This time they were on the trail of hunters who were headed to Belize to capture wild jaguars and sell them to game farms for hunting. Of course, when he was looking for the hunters at a night club frequented by shifters, the Jungle Cat Fever Club, who should walk in and cause a cat fight? None other than Maya Anderson herself! It turned out that Maya was at the club to meet her new found cousins, and then she was off to Belize to meet up with her brother and his wife for a week’s vacation so they could shift and run in the rain forest. This would be very bad if they met up with the hunters.
This is second book in the Jaguar series. I fell in love with Kat and Connor. And had to buy and read Maya's story. Maya wants to date many shifters. And Wade has ever intention to stop that. It is such fun and sizzling hot. The way he changes her mind. I am so in love with these characters. And I know you will be too. I highly recommend this book !!!!
Maya has been trying to find more of her kind and has posted some subtle information on their Garden Centers website. While her brother Connor and Kat have left early to go to Belize, Maya goes to a club to meet some cousins she has found. When she gets there Wade is there with his brother on assignment. When Maya meets Wade she immediately recognizes his scent as the cat that helped them out in the Amazon the year before. Wade and Maya have immediate chemistry but Maya thinks she wants to meet other guys. Wade thinks otherwise but goes along with her for now. Maya gets mixed in with Wade’s assignment. I liked Maya and Wade’s characters. Both are strong, loyal and caring. I liked Wade’s brother, David, he has a very good relationship with his brother and is protective of Maya. This is a very good book and fast read. Can be read as a stand alone or as part of the series. I really enjoy this author and will definitely read more of her books
