funny and well made. the first section was boring, the random 70s section was highly entertaining, and the ending was pretty satisfying considering everything

With the current release of Deadpool 2, it surprises me that I have not read any comics about the Merc with a Mouth, so what better time to rectify that mistake. The biggest question is where to start with numerous creators taking a crack at Wade Wilson, from Joe Kelly to Daniel Way. As Gerry Duggan has just concluded his very long run on Deadpool, let's start from the beginning where he was co-writing with stand-up comedian Brian Posehn.

Starting with a bang, this first story arc in this hardcover is about the resurrection through dark magic of dead former United States presidents, from George Washington to Gerald Ford. Instead of the likes of Captain America, which would be deemed unpatriotic to the public's eye, S.H.I.E.L.D. hires a certain Canadian mercenary whose methods are anything but pleasant.

Written by two very funny people who are not interested in political statements, the whole arc is Deadpool's ongoing onslaught towards evil presidents who were resurrected by a former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, dressed up as William Wallace and wants to make America great again through his crappy use of magic. These six issues might be a bit repetitive in how nearly every sequence is basically Merc versus President, Duggan and Posehn keep it consistently funny with our anti-hero being so unpredictable with the amount of pop culture references he drops, whilst interacting with the likes of Dr Strange who cannot tolerate with Deadpool's annoyance, and the friendly ghost of Benjamin Franklin who is trying to help but prefers the sight of young women.

As outrageously bonkers as "Dead Presidents" is, Tony Moore's art delivers in that prospect. Previously drawn the first six issues of The Walking Dead, Moore is perfect for the bloody zombification of this story as Deadpool slice-and-dices his way through the former commanders-in-chief, resulting in spectacular gory splashes that could rival Peter Jackson's Braindead. One thing is for sure, the image of William Howard Taft in a flying bathtub holding a rubber duck with Lincoln's head on it cannot be unseen.

One of Deadpool's signature traits is his acknowledgement of himself in a comic book and thus the character can go into very meta-territories, as explored in issue #7. Set during the end of the Bronze Age of Comics, Wilson finds himself involved being contracted to manipulate Tony Stark's alcoholism. Drawn in the style of late 70s/early 80s Marvel art by Scott Koblish, it is fun seeing Deadpool is stepping into what was happening at that time in Marvel, in not only does it poke fun at one of the most popular Iron Man stories "Demon in the Bottle", but even in the brief but hilarious use of characters such as Peter Parker and J. Jonah Jameson.

Considering how random it may initially seem in how Deadpool jumps into one story to next, Duggan and Posehn are interested in continuing aspects from previous arcs, as the last arc in this volume follows what happens at the end of "Dead Presidents", while the villain from #6 has vengeful plans against the Merc. I won't go into plot details about this arc that, despite still delivering in the humour, especially during the appearance of the Superior Spider-Man, but it is a more dramatic piece about family as well as delving into the psyche of Wade, who may be super but he is definitely no hero. And yet, he oddly cares about the people he allies, despite his ego and violent profession.

No matter how over-the-top and gory Deadpool can be, the character can only work if he's well-written and funny, something that Gerry Duggan and Brian Posehn understands.

I've read a lot of Deadpool #1's and this is probably the weakest. The best story in the book is the "flashback," told with style, authority, and spot-on attention to detail. The main stories are a little weaker for a variety of reasons. It becomes pretty clear that the authors did not really know what to do when they insisted that ALL the presidents were resurrected. So presidents that could only be killed by electricity can also be killed by a particular magic sword and also by gunfire toward the end when it's time to wrap it up.

And the idea that Deadpool has a secret past and some hidden darkness and all of that. . . . I mean we've been there. A couple of times. A guy can only have so many hidden pasts and dark recess of his mind, right?

It has been said and will be said. . . . The Joe Kelly stuff is classic. It's not clear that further development is useful at this point. It's not really clear what you're supposed to do with a Deadpool except make him like a Brand Echhhh–type thing, maybe?

Dedpul u svom elementu, grozno ga je i slušati i gledati. Zato ga toliko i volimo.

This was a fun merc filled ride. Gory, funny and action packed. The president story was well created and the second half with Michael, Vetis was also quite good. Cameos from other heroes were fun but I think needed so Deadpool could play off. Didnt feel like lafger story arc was present until right at the end. Solid fun just what you'd expect from a deadpool story.

Posehn & Duggan's Deadpool is hilarious. It's the funniest Deadpool since Joe Kelly's, and brings some much needed insanity and creative violence to a character that has started to feel incredibly overused and lame in recent years. Even the fart jokes and sex puns made me laugh, because the duo write them with such overt joy that they come across very self-aware.

Each storyline is equally absurd: in the first half of the book, Deadpool fights the resurrected corpses of every U.S. president in history, stabbing them with a magic sword and generally just blowing them to pieces. In the second half, Deadpool fights a bunch of not-quite-superheroes with lame powers in an attempt to fulfill a contract with a demon. It's bonkers, and it's a blast to read.

I say all that about how funny and enjoyable this Deadpool is so that I can slip in the fact that the plotting is pretty atrocious. The Dead Presidents storyline has almost no justification or reasoning for why any of it is happening: it just kind of happens. The presidents come back to life for basically no reason (because a sorcerer with even less explanation brought them to life), and Deadpool kills them all. In the second storyline, we get a flashback to Deadpool in the 80s (again, for pretty much no reason, plotwise), and then we pick up in the present with the demon storyline (which also just kind of happens and drags us along with it). Now, there's something to be said for just getting over these massive plot holes and logic leaps and enjoying how ridiculous this series is. And I did. I did enjoy it. But, when the inevitable comparison to Joe Kelly's Deadpool run is made, it should be pointed out that his Deadpool was simultaneously hilarious AND well-plotted. This time around, I never found myself really caring what might happen next, as much as I was just happy moment to moment.

This is also a HUUUUGE step up from Daniel Way's complete waste of a Deadpool series, and I'm more than happy to follow Posehn & Duggan as they keep pushing the crazy envelope right into our mouths (or whatever). Just don't expect a thrilling plot.

I've always been a fan of Marvel comics. I had several first editions, which my mother threw out while I was away at school. That's why I'm not driving a Porsche. This book was a good teaching tool, as it named the U.S. presidents and what there chronological numbers were. And then disposed of them.

So much fun - this is exactly what I expect from a Deadpool comic! It was funny, off-the-wall bonkers in places, and just pure Deadpool!

Really funny and entertaining, easy for the Deadpool newcomers, as I have never read any of his solo stories.
The drawings are awesome, the jokes click with me, I also really liked the other characters besides Wade. My biggest complaint would be that team-up with the Spiderman, as it was Superior Spiderman, not the regular one, so he wasn't as funny as usual, and you'd have to know what happened to him to get most of the jokes in that part. But maybe it's just me, as I was very hyped for that team-up.
The seventh issue is particularly great, both in different style and the plot. And because it features my favourite superhero, Iron Man.
It also made me realise that the Deadpool movie would not be good, as somebody so obnoxious and talking this much, constantly, would be annoying. Deadpool never shuts up, even when someone strangles him, and it's funny in the comic book, but I fear it would not translate into a movie well.
I liked it and I will happily check out the next issues.

So glad this is over. With the many harrowing adventures of the Merc with a Mouth, this very long graphic novel became tedious to muddle through. Maybe Deadpool isn't my thing but maybe it's just how the new author pieced this volume together. I'm sticking with the latter because Deadpool is a pretty groovy guy.

Entertaining with some good zingers. Overall story arc is just OK, kind of jumps around a bit. But there are some really solid issues in here, especially the 70's Ironman throwback. Really great variant art covers by some of Marvel's underrated talent. Zany and fun edition to any Deadpool enthusiasts collection.

The art is great and the jokes are mostly great. However there are no real stakes, and the story jumps from one place to another in seconds. It's creative and colorful but since it's crazy and senseless almost all the time, you don't really expect anything and so nothing will surprise you. I think the story became more involving near the end since one particular side character were fleshed out more. That's the big problem I have with this - the jokes and quickly changing situations don't leave room for character development.

If you like the humor and craziness, you might love this. It's entertaining and at parts even memorable but relays heavily on sex jokes and pop culture references and lacks a story with substance.

Brian Posehn and Gerry Duggan do an amazing job of crafting an actual funny comic book. Deadpool is a character that many fail at making truly funny and they hit it out of the park. The fact they were able to make the book funny and have a very good plot speaks volumes. The first arc was fantastic and the second was good but drug on a little. The art by Tony Moore and Mike Hawthorne was very good and matched perfectly to the book. Overall, a very good read for a tough character to pull off.

One star seems harsh, but I don't really feel like it deserves two stars. It's not Brian Posehn's fault, that dude seems pretty cool. But this character is pretty annoying. Like, I knew that going in, and it was still irksome. And boring. Oh, I was not invested in ANY of these characters. Geoff Darrow's covers were great, though. That makes it two.

Recommended to Deadpool fans for what I assume is a good Deadpool story, although I think it doesn't matter if the story is good; teenage boys just like them some Deadpool. Good art, bad character.

I was interested partly because I knew of Brian Posehn's comedy and like him, but definitely intrigued because Gerry Duggan was an entrancing creative force on Nerd Poker. I really enjoyed his characters and style of humor and wanted to see more.

This book really shines when Deadpool is interacting with others in the Marvel Universe. When he's off on his own interacting with his own cast/crew it faltered for me.

Everything was drawn great and there were a ton of fun bits, but it wasn't as much of a page turner as I desired. Probably 2 and 1/2 instead of 3.

first of all: hilarious

second of all: shockingly heart warming

third of all: team-ups to die for, AND the introduction of ellie wilson

usually when people ask me where to start reading comics i’ll recommend this series - it’s fast-paced, shockingly poignant, and posehn writes wade as a literal darling of a character. 10/10.

This Deadpool was just super funny I’m not even gonna lie, I was laughing through most of the book and I don’t really laugh while reading. The authors are just absolutely brilliant to bring such an idea like this, Deadpool against dead presidents, this was such a great book! Definitely a fun one and a good comedy book! I loved it! It was fun to read!!

I have heard about this run on Deadpool for a while and when I came across this collection, I thought I would give it a read. The story about the presidents is hilarious, as well as some emotion they snuck in subtly throughout the run. I also liked some of the other Marvel callbacks they threw in, it was neat seeing them and remembering them, even if it was a number of years ago.
