HIS MISSION
Ensign Jesse Denison and his comrades on SEAL Team 14 have a new assignment: rescue a group of civilian hostages who have been kidnapped by a rogue terrorist cell in central Somalia.

HER HEART
After she is rescued by Navy SEAL Jesse Denison, petroleum engineer, Lena Westlake, can’t get the handsome, brooding soldier out of her mind. Despite their intense attraction to one another, Lena doesn’t have a reason to believe that the two of them would meet again after their one night together.

NOTHING IS AS IT SEEMS
When Lena is re-kidnapped by the same terrorist cell mere weeks after her first rescue, Jesse and the rest of SEAL Team 14 come to realize that this terrorist cell has a broader, deadlier agenda than just oil production disruption in Sub Saharan Africa. An agenda that includes the acquisition of a cutting edge weapons technology developed by Lena’s father.

Lena Westlake has been captured, along with other hostages, by terrifying terrorists. Jesse Denison is part of the team that rescues her.

Swift Strike is a thrill ride from start to finish, and I enjoyed every minute. Loren Mathis has put so much detail into it that even if you have no clue about the world of oil and petroleum engineering, like me, that you still understand everything that's going on perfectly. Though there's not so much detail that it gets boring – I was on the edge of my seat for most of the story. It's the kind of book you won't be able to put down. I kept telling myself one more chapter, one more chapter, and before I knew it I'd finished.

I adored the characters. Despite having gone through so much, Lena is strong and very likeable. She's not your average busty, model like female hero. She's a lot more easy to relate to. And Jesse is swoon worthy – strong, protective, sweet, and hot! Definitely my favourite kind of male lead. There are a mix of great side characters too – some of whom I am definitely looking forward to reading more of as the series goes on (which I hope it does!).

The settings are excellent, described so well I could imagine being there right along side them.

A brilliant read, and one I'll be recommending to everyone.

Terrorists were holding a group of hostages for ransom. This group included Lena Westlake who was from a very wealthy family so when the terrorists asked for $100 million ransom, they expected to get it. But they didn't. A SEAL team rescued the group with Jesse Denison being the SEAL who got Lena out.

This is a very exciting story with surprising twists and turns. I liked the writing style and found it easy to picture the places in it. I usually stay away from stories with terrorists because I thought it would be too complicated but I enjoyed this one. The author wrote in such a way that it was not complicated but very interesting. And it had a SEAL team to save the day. Perfect.

I didn't want to put this book down and highly recommend it.

Exciting, sexy, and addictive

I really liked the detail and descriptions that were in the book. It helped to give me a clear picture of not only the characters but the scenes as well. I love a book that is not only entertaining but informative. I'm a big fan of military suspense romance books and this series is one of my favorites. I read it in one sitting and I can't wait to read the rest in your SEAL Team 14 series.

Good storyline but poorly executed and desperately in need of editing.

Swift Strike is the second book in the Seal Team 14 series.

I read the first novel in the series and was greatly disappointed with the it. It was one of the worst edited books I have ever read and I only read this book because;
#1- it was included in the amazon unlimited books
#2- out of a sheer morbid curiosity to see if the author listened to feedback left by readers regarding the first novel and to see whether she learned anything about editing.

After reading over 100 novels in the last year alone I have found that most series get better with every new book, however that is not the case, with this author.

The storyline starts out good but is poorly executed and edited.
The book begins with a terrorist attack on an WG Oil in Africa. Lena Westlake is the daughter of WG Oil mogul Alfred Westlake and is taken hostage. Jesse Dennison is a Navy Seal tasked with rescuing the hostages and taking down the terrorists.
After the initial rescue the plot jumps around for several chapters for no apparent reason, focusing on people and points that have no bearing on the storyline in a poor attempt to set up future characters. It's like reading several disjointed short stories in the middle of what could be an otherwise good novel if you could just get past the severe lack of editing on almost every page.

I had high hopes that for this new author, giving her the benefit that improvement comes with time, practice and customer feedback. Unfortunately she does not seem to be learning from her mistakes or listening to the advice of her readers.

I would not recommend paying to read this book and honestly unless you are an extremely fast reader I wouldn't waste your time on this book...it will leave you disappointed.
Thankfully I read fast and only wasted about 3 hours of my time.....

2-3 stars. The idea behind the book is good. The execution....not so much. The first 30% of the book has the point of view being switched from Lena to Jesse to Mark to another guy that is on the team with Jesse to the girl he is chasing. Then, it goes back to Lena and Jesse up until the end when we go back to Mark for a brief moment. So, it was really hard to get into because it was bouncing around everywhere. The story between Jesse and Lena could have been really good but there just wasn't enough development. We basically went from "I don't do commitment" to "I love you" at the speed of light. Just didn't work for me.

Well worth the wait for the second book

I received this book from Ms. Mathis because I won a contest. The wait for the second book in what I hope will be more in her SEAL Team 14 series, was well worth it. The hostage crisis of Lena Westlake and her SEAL rescuer Jesse, is the main focus of this book plus a lot of espionage thrown in for good measure. You almost felt like you were right there along with the team trying to rescue the oil hostages, it felt that real. I really hope that there will be more books now that the sophomore book is finished.

This book started out great. The action scenes at the beginning of the novel were really intense and well written. I loved reading about the rescue missions--well done and a bit reminiscent of Suzanne Brockman's style (my personal favorite).

The romance and plot line fell a bit flat, however, and toward the end of the book I was skimming to get through. I think there is a lot of potential in this series and I look forward to seeing if there is improvement in the next one.

Liked it..

I liked the book. Don't think I loved it. The details were there. The passion was there. What would have made all the difference is the ending. It was to abrupt. One minute they are rescuing in Africa and the next they are making breakfast in Kentucky. Just missing some things.
