I'll say right off that the cover of this book totally threw me and I'd like to speak with the designer and editor, if you know who they are. Nevertheless, what I thought was a contemporary romance that was not - was in fact a good and gritty sci-fi romance. Haven't read one of those in a while and was captivated by this one. McCormick captures a gritty heroine with a past as a sexual companion turned whore on the run for her life. There's a tortured hero - and when the two are thrown together their past haunts what might be their chance at a future. A far flung planet with genetically engineered killing monsters, a matriarchal society whose women are the protectors against those creatures while their mates keep the home fires burning and care for the kids, adds a great second locale after adventures in space. A seemingly indestrucable assassin adds to a heightened mix of sci-fi adventure, lust, love, longing and action. The world building is quite nice especially the society of the Amazonian-like women and their ruler who refuses to give an inch when she's encouraged to see that change is needed. Some secondary characters - including a potential "John" whose victims suffer excruciating bites as part of his alien foreplay - and intense emotional scenes as well as some graphic and gritty entanglements - make No Rules a wonderful romance. Just please change the cover! There's no water, no swimming and the back cover blurb didn't give a single clue that this was a sci-fi romance. Tsk. Tsk.

I picked this up at the library because I thought it was about mermaids. Boy was I wrong. It was good though, totally unexpected.

Jenna McCormick strikes again with a wonderful sci-fi, suspenseful and romantic story. No Rules is just that, a wonderful, passion and lust filled story that starts off right away and leaves you wanting more and more as you read each page.

Running from her past for so long is all she has ever known and to be able to survive she has turn into one job that most of us would never turn to, to survive. A companion. Thinking that there was no way out but to continue the way she has Alison has lost all hope until one night everything changes. She meets the handsome and mysterious Del Fenton.

He gives her the hope to be able to please him enough to get the money she needs to get away from the hellhole she has been for awhile. But things do not go as planned. Instead of leaving on her own she ends up leaving with Del.

Del a mysterious man, a soldier running for his life only wants one thing. To be able to win enough money to get away from the planet he is at to a safer location, but what he didn’t plan on was meeting the sexy Alison. Does he risk everything to save her or does he leave her to her fate and only looks out for himself.

Alison does everything in her power to win his affections so he can take her with him, but she didn’t have to try too hard. Del falls for her beauty and her body and as much as he wants to fight his urges he can’t.

But here is the kicker; Del is running too and where he is running to is where she is trying not to go back too.

Together they fight the forces trying to eliminate them in a world that is foreign to her to some extent but that he knows well. No Rules has everything a good romantic sci-fi story could have; love, passion, action, suspense and lots of steamy hot sex.

Once again Jenna delivered and I can’t wait to read what else she has up her sleeve.

I give this book 4 stars/olives for a great read.

As always, Jenna McCormick delivers once again. I love, love, love the world-building in No Rules! Vivid and simple, the setting doesn't bog down the writing or leave the reader struggling to imagine.

Alison and Del are both fun characters. I loved her spunk and the heat between them was molten.

I will be back for more!
