C. M. Johnson is a former teacher in Tampa, Fl. where she lives with her husband. She is now pursuing her Master's of Accounting degree.

Many of my characters have "Power-Chosen mates" that is they are destined for each other. Why? Because I believe in love at first (or nearly) sight.

My husband and I met, became engaged two weeks later, married after knowing each other for 98 days, and are still together 25+ years later.

My main character, Kerrisha, is preparing for her wedding to her Power-Chosen mate when she says, "I can think of nothing better than to be together for centuries in life and forever in the Power." How many of us wouldn't want to spend eternity with our soulmate?

This is not a stand alone book, you really should read book 1 first. Trust me, you want to know what's going on.

Book 2. What can I say? Once again CM Johnson has delivered a fabulous and well written read that will keep you turning the pages and speculating on everything. Kerrisha, the Fifth Guardian, is having a horrifying vision that has her screaming in terror and anguish every time she has it. On top of that she must deal with kidnapping/assassination attempts, her upcoming wedding/coronation/blood bonding rituals, and make her self as accessible as possible to the people to whom she is about to be queen. As her powers get stronger and new ones emerge, she must also continue to train her betrothed Kerreth to fight with weapons as well as with the power that he is steadily gaining. Keeping everyone around her safe has become an all consuming task for Kerrisha, one that she knows that she will ultimately fail at, but she will keep them safe for as long as she can.

I cannot express how much I love these books. Kerrisha is a strong heroine and is honestly a great role model for teenagers and women alike because she is a self rescuing princess. She strives to to right by herself and those around her while not totally depending on Kerreth or the Tesha to save her or keep her safe. The subject matter can get heavy at times, and from what I hear will get heavier but a mature teenager could definitely read these.

This book was well written, the characters have continued to develop a richness and depth that is rarely seen in today's standard novel, and the storyline is so artistically woven that you don't mind the fact that sometimes you have more questions than answers. I admit, I read this book slowly, I had the chance to savor it, to enjoy a relatively "quiet" period in the lives of these characters. That being said, there is plenty of action as well as intrigue, romance, and some amusing parts as well. I'm not sure what I would compare these books to, I think the closest (that I have read) might be Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series. The amount of plot, convoluted storyline, and character development is roughly the same, without having to wait years in between books like the WoT series.

I recommend this entire series to anyone who likes a modern sci-fi/fantasy type novel. if you'd like to know what life might be like if the people of Atlantis had survived and were thriving in the modern world, then read these books. You will not be disappointed.

I was given an ARC of this book for honest review; no other compensation was received on my part.

If you haven't read Book 1 there is no need to read further. Book 2 picks up just where Book 1 leaves off outside the council chambers with Kerrisha recovering from the horrendous vision she had concerning her mate Kerreth.

Another vision, another secret, another fight to fulfill her role as guardian all while trying to keep those around her safe. Finally it is time for her and Kerreth to marry and complete their blood-bond ceremony, which is a ritual not practiced by the people of above city in a very long time. The blood-bond , a most sacred of traditions, bonds the souls of two together for life and death…if one dies, so does the other…

In this installment of the series the reader gains more background into the history of the Guardian, Kerrisha's developing powers, and the other siblings. Again nothing seems easy for the Guardian and those close to her. No longer is just one clan after her but as the wedding draws closer a lost clan surfaces. New enemies, new allies, and new abilities surface in the Tower. The reader is also finally introduced to Below City and Kerreth's parents. The memory blocks placed by Kerrisha all those years ago are still present and waiting to fall, but what will the result be when they do. I have my suspicions and am eagerly anticipating the fall.

As action packed as the first, I could not put this down…I had to know what happened next. The questions, the anticipation of what is to come, and the constant danger that surfaces kept me on the edge of my seat. There is just so much to know and understand in this series…a truly different world that sucks you in to the truth and deception…the myth and the reality…the love and the hate. CM Johnson has done it again with this amazing adult fantasy series. If you are a lover of a good fantasy quick go one-click this, and the rest of the series while you are at it because they just keep getting better!!!

I'm in love with this series, it's not everyday you come across a little gem like this. I love it's uniqueness and the whole fantasy world set in modern time. As in book one; The Beginning book 2 is very detailed, C.M Johnson does a fab job pulling you in to this fantasy world with all these well built up Characters. I feel like I have got to know Keri more in book two and enjoyed seeing her powers grow stronger whilst gaining some new ones also. Keri has alot on her shoulders in this book but still kicks Butt! This book has the perfect amount of romance, action, suspense and surprise, I was on the edge of my seat more than once and totally thrown off by a few twists I did not expect. I am really looking forward to reading book 3, I have got it and I'm eager to start. I highly recommend this book to all fantasy readers, join the journey! You won't be disappointed. I rate this book 5 stars*****

Plot: 4 stars

This book still hold all the uniqueness that book one had. That said, I should have retained my five star but I must be honest with myself. The long narratives right through the middle of the book was too much for me to take it had me falling sleep several times causing for me to not meet my self-imposed deadline in finishing this book. There were too much information on some parts of the books that could have been read easier had it been delivered differently. I think it’s the fact that this is a first person point of view that made it necessary to do those parts through long narratives. But like book one, it got better as you read along towards the end.

Characterization: I'd give it 3.5 stars.

Kerrisha – I still think I have to dig her character a little more before I truly like her. But compared to book one, I’d say she’s slowly growing on me. Maybe it’s the fact that she doesn’t sound too much tall, mighty and over confident in this book compared to the first one. It’s also nice to know that she’s starting to show some more human feelings like fear, anxiety, tiredness and all that that made her seem more real this time than before.

Kerreth – he’s proving to be a better hero than he was before.

Edwere – I would still rather have him as the hero. He’s so dependable and all that he vividly comes to my mind more than Kerreth does. It’s also nice to know that his character is growing better on this novel. I almost can’t wait t see more of his progress and growth in future books.

Jonathan – he’s more noticeable here than in book one. His presence was more apparent I was able to feel him as someone who is part of the story and not just someone who was mentioned in the story.
The siblings’ name was a bit of a deal breaker for me. I am someone who is really really really bad at remembering names. Having their names start with the same letters and sounding almost identical made it hard for me to remember who the sibling of whom is. That also made it harder for me to remember which of them possess what abilities and along with character attributes. Except maybe for David because he was in the beginning before everyone else was there.

Romance. 3.5 stars

I still don’t feel the romance between Kerreth and Kerrisha that much. Though I can see Kerreth’s love for Kerrisha better demonstrated here that in book one. Still, for me it was the adventures and mystery in the story that had me hanging to the book rather than the romance aspect.

Dialogue: 3.5 stars
Like the siblings, some of the dialogues had me in a jam. There are times I got lost to who is speaking with whom. And the characters having telepathic ability adds to the confusion. I often got lost when they are ‘sending’ – to a bunch or a single person- and when they are actually talking and then switching in between. There are times when my eyes jump to the next word before it even catch what was before that and that made it even worse. I think this is one aspect of the book which I couldn’t help myself as the author told me font styling is impossible to do with ebooks. It’s something I have to learn to accept and adapt as I read along.

Twist: 4

Kerrisha’s power to see the future was not as disturbing as it was in book one. The element of surprise was much better delivered here than the first book. The way the author ended this novel was a big reason for me to keep hanging on this series and wanting to read more.

All in all, Kerrisha and Kerreth’s journey as couples to the Tales of the Fifth Guardian is very unique and original I can say I haven’t read it before. It reminded me of the feelings I had for Disney’s “Atlantis the Lost Empire” which I watched as a kid. If you have seen that movie, you’ll know how exciting and colourful the adventure of the characters there are and that’s almost what The Tales of the Fifth Guardian had my imagination floating to. I said almost because it’s really incomparable as they were different. I was just trying to make a reference.
Despite the little bump of going through the middle part of the book, I can honestly say that I enjoyed reading the book. I love that the characters grow – physically, emotionally and ability wise. For me that’s a big deal. It made them feel more like real people and the scenes more realistic even though it is fantasy and fiction. C.M. Johnson really did a wonderful job at creating a new world with Tales of the Fifth Guardian.

This is not a stand alone book and you need to read book one before you read this one!!
Amazingly C.M.Johnson has once again out done her self with this book!! Her writing never strays and she has produced another fabulous book for us!! The story doesn't get boring or dull down. She keeps us guessing again and again and she throws in surprises and twists and I am like NO way I didn't see that coming haha!
Keri keeps having a vision that is leaving her screaming at the end over and over and it is horrifying!! Not to mention all of the kidnapping and assassination attempts she is having to deal with because she has her wedding/blood bond ceremony/ and her coronation as Queen to the people of Otlander and Drew Clans.
Keri is trying to keep everyone as safe as possible especially her twin sister and her soon to be brother in law and (Kerriths twin brother) because they are getting married on the same day as well as blood bonded, it is a double wedding and double blood bond ceremony! Also the Blood bonding is something that hasn't been practiced in a very long time and when you are blood bonded to your mate, if something happens that you die, well you mate dies as well. your souls are connected and you will always be with the other even after death.
Keri is also gaining more power in addition to gaining new ones as well!
You are also introduced to Below City and to Kerriths Parents, the King and Queen of Below city!
This book also had in the back the terminology for the Otlantesha words and their meaning which is helpful if you don't remember which word means what.
This is another wonderful book by the Amazing C.M. Johnson and her amazing writing still blows me away! The series is great and each book keeps you guessing whats going to happen next or "Wow, I didn't see that coming!" I continue to laugh and gasp and nearly crying in a few of the books I have read so far! (I read the series first then go back and review them all!) I hope you enjoy this book as much as i did and decide to get the next in the series that is Tales Of The Fifth Guardian: Book 3- Taken.

This is the second book in the Tales of the Fifth Guardian and picks up right where the first one stopped. If you didn’t read the first, you’ll need to in order to get a sense of who everyone is and what is going on. If you did read the first, you’ll be happy to see that this book carries on the adventures for Keri and those around her.

This book is intense, you have to really focus on each page to make the most of what is going on. It is not light fluff that you can read in one sitting. This second book goes into Keri & Kerreth’s preparations for marriage, bonding and starting a family. Keri is still carrying the tremendous burden of learning new powers, seeing to it that her extended family around her can handle growing into their powers, and getting visions of the future. Keri is in danger from her enemies all the way throughout the book. She leads, trains, fights and watches over her family constantly. Kerreth gets learn more about himself and Keri, including how well she knows his parents and some of Keri’s previous missions.

For all of the responsibility and powers that Keri and Kerreth have, they are still uncomfortable being considered leaders of all of the Otlanders and respectively the Queen & King. I feel that they will have a lot more trials and growing into their powers before they will be comfortable as such. We see through some of Keri’s visions that there will be a lot more adventure for Keri & Kerreth. I did enjoy the grandmotherly taking to task that the First Guardian gave to both Keri & Kerreth in different visions.

I was once again glad for the glossary in the back to keep the terminology straight. At times I almost felt the need for a chart to keep everyone straight as there was a lot of activity and new people from the other clans introduced.

The Second book of the series continues the mythology basis of the story with the answer to the question: How were couples mated in the time before the Guardians?

With an ancient sword and a blood ritual of course.

The most interesting part of writing this series sometimes is the development of Otlantesha (the ancient language of the People of Otland Iis). Each chapter of the story needs more new words and the dictionaries at the end of each book continue to grow each time as the language develops.

This is also the first book where the reader can see an example of the ancient form of Otlantesha as the emblem on the Blood-bond sword on the front cover is the symbol of Otlander Clan's Battle Element in the ancient language.

Of course, planning a modern wedding with ancient rituals in the center of a city where your history is hidden from the regular human population means making a few changes, multiple ceremonies, and it definitely will not happen without something major disrupting everything.

Okay, once again, this is not a book. This is a complex, involved series that requires patience to let it all unfold. The second book takes up just where the first one left off, with Kerrisha's terrible vision. Through a complicated series of events, Kerrisha and her intended, Kerreth, work together with their friends and siblings to try to protect each other and their Clan while simultaneously planning a royal wedding! And the poor kids haven't even come into their full power yet!
I really enjoyed this story, but the long narratives do require that the reader pay close attention or risk missing something important. I also still feel that this is a story that is intended for adults. It has violence, explicit sex, and adult situations that would not be suitable for younger readers. If you are easily offended or unable to tolerate darker stories, this is not the right book for you. But for those who enjoy an intricate tale of adventure and mayhem, this is a great series!

*I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
Book 2 in the Guardian series was great! Things get a bit darker but also a bit happier in this book. I know that is contradictory but it's true. Things are changing for Keri and her gang, I can't wait to find out what will happen on the dates she specifies. I'm not good with secrets so I get as frustrated as Kerreth in wanting to know! But I know that all will be revealed in time. If you enjoyed book 1 at all, then you will definitely love this one. If you have NOT read book 1, don't start here...go back and get the 1st book because you need the information in there to make things make sense. Another 5 STARS for Johnson!
