Second in the darkly compelling, sexually-charged contemporary romance trilogy, in which two men vie for the mind, body, and heart of a woman who may never give in to their wishes—or her own…
Evelyn “Scout” Keats has left behind her painful past of surviving on the streets, and is now living in the luxurious penthouse master suite of Hotel Patras with her lover, billionaire Lucian Patras. But what she doesn’t know is the price Lucien paid for her freedom.

Yet neither man realizes that Scout is not about to be used as a prize or a bargaining chip for any man’s power play—and she falls back on her hard-earned self-respect and courage to show both men that the only person she truly needs is herself.
But Lucien has other plans…

Alright so I made the mistake of thinking that this trilogy couldn't impress me anymore than it already has. Yeah, I was wrong. I've casted the characters in my review of the first book in this series, and there is nothing more to say about the second book except.. SHIT HAS JUST HIT THE FAN.
It’s the second installment and Lucian must pay the piper.
I really liked how Breaking Out started. Evelyn and Lucian are the perfect happy couple. Evelyn loves being with Lucian because he’s dominating, caring and sweet. Lucian is very much in love with Evelyn, but something is pressing on his shoulders.
One man… Parker Hughes.
I’m usually not one for love triangles, but this one worked out for me. The deal Lucian made with Parker is ready to be cashed in and Parker is ready for his chance at Evelyn, the only thing… Evelyn doesn’t know anything about it.
The storyline and concept of the book was great. There are some parts where it was a little too edgy for me. Like I said, I loved the beginning because it was steamy and sweet. I liked reading Evelyn and Lucian’s interaction since they had to overcome so much from Falling in.
When the book shifts during the half way point it started to get a little drawn out. There isn’t a huge chunk where Evelyn and Lucian are separated, but it’s big enough to get you kind of anticipating on what will happen next. I disagreed with the point where Evelyn wasn’t aware of the situation. It was just not needed drama in my opinion.
I did however enjoy two men going for Evelyn’s affection. I also liked how much Lucian loved Evelyn and how he was going crazy during the separation. Who doesn’t love a Hero completely disheveled? I loved it. Breaking Out is a nice novel and if you are a fan of the series, this book is the perfect in-between book to get you prepared for the final one.

I ve really enjoyed this book just as much as the first the story is so good I have 2 say I luvd Lucian is this book more I felt sorry 4 him in part of the book what he had 2 do it was heart breakin but my heart went out 2 scout/Evelyn she is like a doll bein passed about when she doesn't know what's goin on I really felt 4 her the story as me so excited that I m just dyin 2 know how things work out in the end an again like the 1st book the end of this book is like nooooo I want more I m just delighted I don't have 2 wait xxxx
I m readin this book with amazin girls I ve luvd readin with u xxxx
Cried while reading his conversation with his dad and Tigan
I wanted to hate Parker, but I do understand him. He loves her.
Got bored and skipped lotsa pages. Too many internal Dialogues. Don't shoot me okay, it's not that I hate Internal Dialogues, but seriously, too much is too much!!!
I'm still reeling from it all. The angst... the drama... the heartache... the deception... the misconceptions... the wrong decisions... the pain, where to start?!
Lucian made a deal with the devil, so to speak. He agreed to Parker's conditions in his desperation to find Evelyn/Scout. And now, Parker is collecting & there's nothing he can do about it. ONE MONTH. And then, we're taken on a roller coaster ride like no other! I'm being vague here but this is what book 2 is basically about.
There were instances in the book where Evelyn frustrated me. But I understood where she was coming from. Love had never been kind to her. It was a weakness where one can be manipulated & abused (based on her relationship with her mother). I understood her hesitation. It was self preservation, on her part. But I still wanted to shake her! Arrrgh!
Lucian, poor Lucian! He was at a loss! I felt for him. He was caught in the turmoil of intense love, helplessness & desperation. I ached for him.
I don't know why but I can't really bring myself to hate Parker. He's done so much for her for so long. He's been her best friend & protector. Can I blame him for trying? He's been in love with her for sometime. And he thought he knew what's best for her. Who does Lucian think he is? He can't just swoop in & take her away from him, right?!
Absolute mind f#@k and I LOVED it! Loved the major cliffy ending, too. The teaser for the next book was AMAZING.
From the reviews, everyone thinks book 3 is the best. Say what???!!! I already think these two books are mighty fine! Have to read the last book now. Can't contain myself... feeling so giddy with excitement. To more sleepiness nights...
It took awhile for “the deal” to get set in motion between Parker and Lucien, but when it did I was like Lucien you dumbass. I’m conflicted, I like Parker and he was gypped out of two weeks. This stressed me out. 4 1/2 stars.
Billionaires can be very dumb., Book2 started out fine and were going along swimmingly when everything screeched to a halt or at least a separation due to billionaire-hero dumbness. Also Scout's reaction to Lucien's proposal was way overdone, over-the-top and unbelievable for where they were in their relationship. So at the end of this book, I ended up not liking the characters at all.
I liked this book very much but not as much as I loved Falling In (book 1). That sometimes happens with a follow-up sequel in a trilogy. Seriously, it’s hard to live up to the awesomeness of Falling In.
Breaking Out picks up right where book #1 ends. Evelyn is trying to find her place in the world now that she’s off the streets and she doesn’t have to worry where her next meal will come. She’s learning to read, making friends, discovering her interests, and enjoying her love affair with Lucian.
'He had brought her here, clothed her, sheltered her, taught her, and loved her. Lucian was home, her home.'
Lucian made a deal with the devil in FALLING IN, and now it’s time to pay the piper, so to speak. That’s where Parker, Evelyn’s longtime friend, comes back into the picture. Boy, do we learn many sides of him!
Although this book didn’t have as many twists and turns, it was still highly erotic, added depth to the story, and I very much liked it. Ms. Michaels’ writing is outstanding, I cannot wait to read the conclusion of Evelyn and Lucian’s love story. I’m hoping we see some more of the villainous, Slade, in COMING HOME (book 3). I’m dying to know how Lucian is going to deal with both Slade and Parker. 4 STARS!
09/09/14 - I loved this book. I love this series. I love the premise. I love the story. I love the characters. I love that the heroine is strong but not a hurtful. I love how the hero loves the heroine, but he is not perfect. I loved the cliffy. I have mentioned this several times…I am a cliffy whore. I love a good series that has great cliffhangers and this was so good.
Breaking Out is the second book in the Surrender series. Lucian, the hotel tycoon has fallen in love with Evelyn. How could you not fall in love with Evelyn?? Evelyn has a heart of gold. Evelyn had come from literally nothing. She was homeless until she started a job at Lucian’s hotel as a maid and Lucian made a deal with Evelyn. In Breaking Out, Lucian makes a deal with Evelyn’s best friend Parker. I loved how everything unfolded. The intimate scenes are not overdone. I love the romance and connection of these two characters. A man who makes bad decisions has to pay. I am so glad I found Lydia Michaels. I think she is one of my new favorite authors for romances.

So I think that maybe with the first book I wasn't really in the mood, so I rated the 1st book a 3 star (i think) even though I did enjoy it.
This 2nd book was full of angst and drama but really, it was expected. I really enjoyed this one.
Both Lucian & Evelyn separatley had obstacles that they had to work around and this is extremely important to the story as a whole.
My heart broke for Lucian. He has been opened up to a kinda of love that he did not know existed. He wants to be Evelyn's EVERYTHING and I understood why he wanted that.
Evelyn has struggled with life as far back as she can remember. I had my pomp-pomps waving in the air for her because even though she missed out on a good chunk of lifes opportunities, she was strong willed and determined to do the one thing most important to her and that is to gain her freedom and indepencence.
One thing about Evelyn is that she is one tough cookie; man can she give it good (and I don't mean in a sexual way). LOL
Anyhoo, started the 3rd book and I'm excited to see where the story goes.
This series is so GOOD! Why aren't more people reading and freaking out about these books? I mean, yes, it's a similar billionaire BDSM cinderella story, but it's so well written, and I feel like the stakes are higher because the heroine is HOMELESS, and watching her cross the divide into the life of the super wealthy was just fascinating to watch. Plus, the psychology of submission made so much sense in her case, after a life of being on alert and having to take care of herself and her mother every tense minute. And the way she sees the world is so interesting. I just really, really enjoyed this series, and thought the second book was just as good as or better than the first.
Ahhhhh, I hate Parker. I feel so sorry for Lucian, but in a way what happened was partly his fault. I'm just glad he finally realized it. It might have sounded a little too late for Scout, but I'm still rooting for Scout and Lucian. But I just love it how the author makes Scout this vulnerable yet strong heroine. I love her! OK, on to book three.
This is a hell of book2 sequel of the series. No mercy, no comteplations, rollercoaster of emotions. The author forgot to include butterflies, puppies, cute bunnies and nice daisies, you have been warned. Maybe the author includes all the cute props on the 3rd book of the series... i'll find out. Awesome 2nd books ever read in my life...
After reading (and enjoying) book 1 in an anthology, I ordered books 2 and 3 in the kindle store. I couldn’t get into the story, and I’m not even bothering with book 3. What a waste! Note to self: don’t buy two books at once!

My Thoughts
WOW! so, i'm really enjoying this series so far in case you hadn't noticed. Not only is it steamy and romantic, you really have to wonder about the twists that are coming. In the first installment, we meet Evelyn/Scout when she's working as a maid at the prestigious Patras hotel when she encounters Lucien, the owner who makes her an offer she cannot refuse. To be taken from homelessness and despair into a world of security with a roof over her head, clothes, food, and all just at the price of herself. Being his company. As we got to know this duo a bit more in book 1, we saw that there was much more there than just a deal, and this is what takes us into book 2.
There's a fair bit of role playing that makes things really interesting at the onset - we see fantasies coming to life, and a sense of realism, it's not all heated passion that we get, it's adventure and romance and the thrill of things which kept me entertained.
In this 2nd installment, things definitely become more challenging for them, and Evenlyn isn't sure what she's able to give of herself because of the trust issues that she has from her mother. This story takes us on the journey of Lucien trying to show Evenlyn how strong she is, but being patient with her in the skills that she wants to develop, all the while, allowing his love for her to grow and becoming vocal about it. The issue here though is that while Evelyn appreciates that, she's not able to tell him how she feels. she shows it, but doesn't say it, and it becomes a bit of a wall between them.
At the same time, Parker, Evelyn's best friend from the streets comes back around and really wants to make a play for her affection. His deal that he's struck with Lucien (from back in book 1, as a reminder that in order for Parker to tell Lucien where Evelyn was, he had to give Parker a job and then give him a chance at wooing Evelyn). Lucien was banking on that time not coming for quite some time, so that he can build the security that he has with Evelyn and convince her that there's no one else for her.
As we saw in book 1, Parker and Slade cross paths and since we know there's been a falling out with Lucien and Slade over Evelyn, it's not surprising that Parker has been helped by Slade and is now able to take full advantage of the deal.
the question is - what will happen now right?
Lucien's made a big gesture to Evelyn in the hopes that it'll secure his place in her life and vice versa, it back fires a bit unexpectedly and Evelyn runs to Parker. Lucien fears that his world is coming tumbling down now, ends up flying to Paris to see his father whom he has no relationship with because of his own indiscretions and all in all you have a huge mess.
Where we're left off in book 2 is quite the edge of a cliff - we're at a turning point where it's a matter of pride, love and friendship that makes things the most complicated, and you have to wonder how paths are going to cross again.
Personally though, i'm most intrigued by what Slade's doing and what his motivation is. I wonder what the story is there and i have my inklings about it. I'm also curious why Parker is the way that he is and what he plans to do with it. We get his back story a bit more, but still...i'm left wondering.
I really enjoy though how Lucien's character is written. He's not afraid to be emotional and show how he feels which we don't often see. We see him lose control of things, go into a tail spin but it all comes from a great place. He has this sensuality that he shares with Evelyn that's amazing.
I've just got my hands on book 3 the finale in the series and i can't wait to see how they get to the end point, and hopefully my intuitions are correct on how things will pan out. Enjoy!
The story of Evelyn and Lucien continue in book two of this series. Lucian has pulled her from the streets, placed her mother in a rehab facility and he is so close to having everything he wants. He’s in love with her. But he made a promise, one he didn’t think would ever really come into play, but one that continues to cast a gray cloud over the piece of perfection.
As Evelyn falls back into step with her life with Lucien she is nagged by the feeling that something is wrong with Parker. Is he warm? Did he find shelter? With a clue as to the deal that Lucien struck in order to save her, Evelyn can’t help but try to seek out her friend.
When Parker has finally managed to get enough together so that Lucian has to make good on his deal, Lucian knows he has to fight even harder to ensure that she’ll remain his. But when he pushes her too hard, he also pushes her right into a situation that is perfect for manipulation. Parker has thirty days. Thirty days without interference from Lucian to show her that he loves her and that she can love him.
When Evelyn is told that Lucian must break things off for the thirty days, she has no clue as to the deal that was made. She only knows that she is being thrown away. When Parker appears, he gives her a chance to laugh and smile again but that doesn’t last long when she soon discovers the real reason for Lucian’s absence and Parker’s presence. Both men have misjudged her, both men might have lost her.
Book two delivered truckloads of angst. With every move that Parker made, I felt like I was going to throw my kindle against the wall. I was so tense during that chapters of this story where this little trade took place. I had to, at times, just set it down and breathe before I was able to pick it back up. At one point my husband even noticed the look of pure hatred on my face as I was reading along and tried to get me to take a break for my own sanity. Well that was not going to happen.
But before we got to all the drama and angst we did get that sizzle. Although the sex in the first book was hot and plentiful, there was a bit of fantasy play tossed into book two that took that up a notch. As Lucian attempted to gain her trust, he pushed her. One particular scene tested that trust, not only for Evelyn, but for the reader. I found my own thoughts mimicking those of Evelyn’s as she battled herself over what was taking place. I love those moments in a book. When a scene can feel so real that you find yourself thinking the exact things of the character, that you’ve become that in sync with them.
We also were delivered a ton of emotional moments. My heart was breaking for Lucian the days counted down to the moment where he had to give her up. The way he pleaded so that they could have avoided all of this. There was no way not to feel the emotions of that scene or the final scenes of this book. You had come to love these two characters and cheer them on... you came to distrust the boy that seemed to be good beneath it all... and in the end you’re left with one helluva cliffhanger that leaves you feeling like up is down. The only saving grace is the hope that a HEA can be found.
Ok, I waited a couple months before reading this second installment in The Surrender trilogy.
The first book, Falling In, was so good, and I knew that bad things were coming, so I had to make myself wait to read this one. I guess I just wanted to revel in where Evelyn and Lucian were at the end of Falling In, and wanted to hold off the inevitable for awhile.
I loved how gone for Evelyn Lucian is. How utterly smitten he was.
Evelyn was annoyingly dumb. First, deliberately dodging her driver, wearing nice clothes and expensive jewelry, and going back to the poor side of town looking for Parker, then being surprised when she gets attacked and nearly robbed. Then, during the break, she allows Parker to manipulate her, and she refuses to see that he's after her for more than friendship, despite Lucian's warnings, and despite her mother's same observation. I realize he Evelyn grew up on the streets, with no formal education, but street smart should have counted for something here.
Parker was just a class-A douche canoe. First, by forcing Lucian into that ridiculous deal. If he really cared about Scout, wouldn't have helped Lucian out, regardless of his dislike for Lucian? Second, he never told Scout about the deal. Then, he tried cheating to win, by hiring a hooker for Lucian, then by trashing Scout's phone. He stacked the deck in his favor, and he made Lucian the better man. Lucian was the more honorable one in that deal, breaking both his and Evelyn's hearts to honor his deal with Parker, and Parker just shit all over it.
I will be reading the last book, and I won't wait this time, but I sincerely hope that Evelyn pulls her head out of ass, figures things out, and goes back where she belongs.

Really enjoyed the first one and just had to start this second one right away.
Really loved seeing more of a deeper connection in between Lucian and Evelyn. I really felt the deeper connection and felt how they were falling in love with each other. Lucian has been really open with his feelings towards Scout. Has really treated her like a queen and made up for his callous behaviour in book 1. However, Scout is having troubles admitting her feelings out loud to Lucian. Despite being obvious to everyone, she just can’t admit it to him. I’ve sort I understood her. Not much time has passed since their relationship has started and she’s been emotionally guarded all her life. The only person she has really cared/loved has been her mother who due to her crack addiction hasn’t really been a mother at all. I actually love Scout’s character. She’s been a very refreshing character in these types of stories that I've read, considering her age. Strong, endearing. I have really connected with her character.
Lucian has been for the most part in this book amazing. The man is well, very sexy. However, halfway through, not really sure what happened to his character. The way he reacted and handled some stuff was just so stupid and ridiculous. It was very frustrating and I honestly almost stopped reading. But I didn't so I'm going onto to book 3 to see how it ends. This ones does have more of a cliffhangerish ending. So already started book 3 .
3.5 stars. Pretty solid read. Didn't like it as much as the first but it was a good follow up.
We start this book where book one left off. Scout is living with Lucian in his penthouse and continuing to adjust to life off the streets. However, Lucian's deal with the devil is hot on his heals. He needs to prepare himself to let scout go for one month and cut all ties during that time. How can he do that when he feels such an unavoidable protectiveness over her? But his word is his word, so he must let her go.
There was a big part of me that didn't get it. I also didn't really buy into the story or the angst all this drama caused. I felt annoyed with the decisions Lucian made concerning Scout. However, there was another part of me that felt so sad for Lucian.
Scout is still tough as nails and my heart really hurt for her during this book. There is so much she doesn't understand and so many situations out of her control. Her life is full of manipulations that she can't see and her trust is being tested.
This book does end on one heck of a cliffhanger and I'm excited to find out how this plays out. I'm also looking forward to some big time groveling on Lucien's part. ;)
I want to start by saying I have throughly enjoyed Lydia Michaels writing and story about Lucien and "Scott" Evelyn. I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS SERIES! She really does take you on a journey of emotions, love, romance, pain, soul searching, turmoil, sexy, sad, frustration, a real roller coaster. This book had all that and more. It's been a long time since I was excited about a series of books but I've been blown away by this author. I fell madly in love with the characters but thought Evelyn was a little too stubborn and rough on Lucien. Maybe he should have told her how important keeping his word was and about his father and his relationship. Other than that this is A MUST READ! THIS SERIES DESERVES MORE THAN 5 STARS!
OH MY GARAGE! Seriously? Scout, girl... I am so in your corner! Lucian? I feel for you. Parker? Dude, I do not have words for your despicable behavior. And, Slade? You have some serious groveling to do.
Pearl is still a mess, Christos is not doing well and has regrets, Parker is way out of pocket, and Sherry? Who the...? GAH!
Yep, this was an emotional ride for me. I like that this whole experience is openly compared to chess. Five minutes was the warning, so excuse me while I jump into book #3. :)
I'm dying to read the third and last installment of this series.
I can't fully blame the characters for the messed-up situation they have created. They all have their reasons in doing so. And once again, wonderful, wonderful writing! I particularly love chapters 20 and 21. The scenes there are portrayed realistically.
I was under the impression that this wasn’t a love triangle, but whaddya know I spy a love triangle. This book started off great and I loved it so much more than the first book. But then bam idiocy and love triangle. It would’ve been so easy to not turn this into a life triangle, and from my perspective it IS a love triangle. If it wasn’t she wouldn’t be kissing the om back. Sad because I LOVED the h in book one.
Love love love! Shit got real towards the end. I feel so emotionally invested I need to see how this whole triangle plays out! Onto 'Coming Home' I go! :)
