It is a wonderful book. It is such a well-researched biography complete with notes and bibliography--a great study of Charles Dickens' life, writings and personality. He was, in fact, a much different person than the man I imagined after seeing movies made of his famous books. I like the real man better and He was fascinating--with that genius, driven personality. He must have been a fun person to know. I am now anxious to read Volume II of this biography as well as more of his writings.

Utterly absorbing work. If you want to learn about Dickens up close, this first of a two-volume work is the ticket.
