Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted my copy of this book.

This is book 4 in the Helheim Wolf Pack Tale, and you really SHOULD read all three previous books before this one. There is MUCH that is referenced, but not fully covered here from those books. MUCH. So, don't say I didn't warn you!

We met both Alex and Saskia in book 3, and they met too. They fell in love over a single kiss and now Saskia is mated to another, and Alex is now Bitten.

So, in my review for the third book, I said things were beginning to make sense, and I could kinda see where this was all going. You read that, right? I said it?? Well, now? I lost it all again! I still got an inkling, but I've lost something in the couple of months since I read book three, I really did and I didn't pick it back up here, not fully.

To that end, I didn't enjoy this as much as book 3.

However, I don't think that me losing whatever I did is the full reason. There is more, and it revolves around what Alex and Saskia did, to Ezekiel, in their home. They both felt guilty about that, and well they should but it didn't sit well with me! I would like to see Ezekiel happy in a later book, he needs some happiness now.

Saxon (Saskia's brother) meets HIS mate, but this book ends on a cliffhanger about that. Brax is smitten by someone he meets but not sure where thats going.

As usual, everyone important has a say. And you really do need that here, more so than in the other books.

Like I said, I lost something, and didn't quite get it back and whatever it is, I missed it!

Books one and two got 4 and 4.5 stars respectively. Book 3 is by far my favourite of them all so far and got 5 stars. We've slipped a bit here, and so....

4 solid stars

Sometimes love does win. Love for family. Love for sexual partners. Love of survival. Alex D'Angelo realises why Vaile has always seem such an intimidating presence. And was willing to put up with his foul moods since losing his love after successfully defending her from a werewolf who was too 'friendly'. Now that Alex is a werewolf, he aims to ensure that Saskia will be his, regardless of the hurdles. One of those hurdles is his 'new' pack and that alpha's daughter. Casey is strong willed and doesn't want to be just be a baby factory. Her insistence of learning soldiering skills allows for her to stumble on a plot brewed by the disgraced former alpha that had captured Rhett's aunt. Ends on a cliffhanger. Can't wait for the next book

TOTALLY FRICKING AMAZEBALLS!

I mean seriously what a read! I loved it…WOW…You see Miss Dawes you have rendered me speechless!
So we know that Saskia and Alex already have a history from the last book, but what we didn’t know is that somehow Alex has become a werewolf.

Saskia has had to move on and get mated to another wolf as her brother more or less forced her to. Yeah at times she was a total bitch to Zeke (her mate) but hey, we learn that being in a loveless mating can make us think, say and do the most unimaginable things, and for her one TRUE love to arrive on the scene unannounced obviously messed with her head an heart too.

It was a shame that Zeke got dishonoured from the pack, because of his actions, but he sounds like a lovely guy and would do anything that he could to protect and cherish his love, I do hope we see more of Zeke in the future and that he finds safety and peace in another pack, maybe he would find his TRUE mate? *Hint Hint*

We embark on mystery adventure of trying to find out who is turning humans into werewolfs.

Lost friends are re-united
New love starts to blossom

Brax: Oh my little old Brax, I loved his character in the other books, it was such a heartbreak to see him having to leave his life, his pack, his family because of his addiction to Indy’s bite. My heart melts all over again when he & Ulf show up at the Helheim pack and Brax sees his best friend and Indy again. I do hope we see more of Brax, maybe he can come back to the Helheim pack now he has passed his addiction?? Maybe he will find his TRUE mate?

Saxon: Well this guy started off as a total douche, I mean seriously why did he think it was his right to stop Saskia from seeing a human male, and making her pick a suitable male to mate with?? Grrrrrr. But to be fair as I read on I got to see the real Saxon opening up, and that HE was the one to bite Alex which in effectively turned him into a wolf, his name tag from then changed from “douche” to “Swoon-worthy guy”. Total brotherly devotion right there! We see him and Casey square off at one another, I mean some serious sexual tension was going on, they just need to sort it out already!

Casey: This girl is lovely, feisty and doesn’t do what she’s told – TOTAL ADMIRATION GOING ON! I love her character, it’s a shame her brothers and her father seem to see her as a weak, little female, well she sure as hell proved them wrong. I do hope Casey & Saxon mate, they make sure a beautiful couple, the bounce off of one another’s energy, they will certainly keep one another on their toes.

I do hope both Alex & Saskia can work through their past differences and live up to one another as a pack, as a mated couple, maybe in future books we may see/hear little pitter patter of babies feet *Hint Hint*

This was such an awesome read, I thoroughly enjoyed to book.

You have left yourself WIDE open to create future books in this series.

What will happen to Casey?
What will happen to Saxon?
Why has Marcus returned to the scene?
What does Marcus want with Casey?

The ending was a TOTAL cliffhanger, com’on seriously!!!!! Poor Casey, left abandoned, alone and miles away from anyone.

Why had Mark/Kade double crossed them?

'Half Cast' begins ... we're seeing Alex as he's wracked with pain, both physical and emotional. He's been bitten, and the wound is festering, killing him.

Or so he thinks.

When Alex is discovered, lying alone near a tree in the woods, we're introduced to a number of amazing new characters. Most memorable is Casey, a cocky little redhead with more energy and bravado than anyone knows what to do with. She's got a soft side, but it takes a very special male to bring that out in her ... and he's an old favorite that we've all grown to know, if not love.

With Alex's determination to return to Buxton and seek out his past love, we're taken back to the Helheim pack and reunited with all our old favorites. Vaile and Larissa are parents now, Sabel and Ivy are happy together, and the Helheim pack is thriving under the strong rule of a new alpha.

This story branches away from the war theme we've been seeing so far, and focuses instead on the recovery of the Helheim wolf pack. I suspect there is still trouble to come in the series as Lauren Dawes is always full of adventure, but this book was a breath of fresh air, a short break from the war and the gore, and a romantic fantasy come alive in the Helheim world. It is by far my most favorite of the Half Blood Series and I can't wait to see what happens next!!

Believe me, you want to read 'Half Cast.' If you're a sucker with a soft heart for lost love, if you're an eternal optimist that believes "love will always find a way," or if you thrill to the idea of two broken hearts finding a way to heal each other, then this is it. This is the book that will win you over to Lauren Dawes' Half Blood Series for good. Go get it. You won't be sorry.
