NEW YORK TIMES BEST SELLING AUTHOR OF UGLY AND MISTRUST
I’m a two-time New York Times bestselling author for my stand-alone books Ugly and Mistrust. To date I’ve published over 30 books! I’m first generation Australian born and live in Sydney with my husband, two daughters and my rescue-dog, Kingston! I love to write stories to connect my readers to my strong, courageous characters…with some spice sprinkled between the pages. The characters I write about can pop into my mind anytime and anywhere. From the shower, to washing dishes, playing with my puppy or even in my dreams. My characters can sometimes be intrusive, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Thank you for taking this journey with me and I truly hope you love reading my stories as much as I love writing them.
I didn't finish this book. No fault of the author, this is another case of me being a dumb reader. The author kindly warned me that this story would be "different" from her other work and I guess I didn't realize how different. Definitely NOT a bad book, but just wasn't for me.
My Life for Yours is a story that's a little different to others. This is a darker contemporary romance. In this tale I have Frankie DeLuca, the daughter of John DeLuca, head of the Family. With John's death, Frankie steps up and takes on the role of Mob Boss. She's quick witted, she's tough, she takes what she wants and she's not scared to tell you exactly what she thinks.
Frankie collides with Senator Jeremy Miller, and everything changes.
Well for Jeremy it does.
Frankie and Jeremy's story is filled with so many twist and turns through out.
How can a Mob Boss Alpha female, be with Senator Jeremy Miller?
Jeremy can't stay away from Frankie.
And Frankie doesn't do romance. Can they make it work?
I hope you enjoy my Frankie and my Jeremy. I love these two so much.
I first want to say that I hate not liking a book. I am not difficult to please, not at all. But there were just too many things with this story did not allow me to like it. I appreciate the hard work that any author puts into their work and the risk that they take when they hit that publish button - putting their heart and soul out there for the masses to either embrace or crush. That takes guts and balls.
There are a ton of great reviews out there on this one, but sadly for me this one just missed the mark.
So let me get to the gist of the story, which by the way I loved (it just never came together for me). A mob boss and a senator. Different circles, different worlds of wrong and right. Colliding in passion and desire. The blurb on this book sold me, it reeled me in and it definitely did what it was intended to do. A story of two complete opposites, drawn together despite the odds.
What I did enjoy: Dirty sex and dirty talk. No doubt Jeremy was filthy in bed and it was glorious. The idea of this story was great, execution of it, for me fell flat. These two things alone are really what left me hitting the 2 stars instead of the one.
Where did this go wrong? The start of this story was choppy at times. Instant love. Now, this is something that I usually don't gripe over. But this was whiplash instant love. These two crash into each other and suddenly they are ready to sacrifice their lives for one another days later. No build up, no past connection revealed through inner thoughts. Frankie is a 32 year old strong female, a mob boss... until her age was revealed I had been expecting to find that she was in her twenties. Her inner dialogue was immature at times; her phrasings and her general tone was just off.
Although the sex was hot and filled with filthy commands, there was a lot of it. With just over 200 pages, sex filling up quite a bit of it left the story as a secondary part. Jeremy also didn't struggle very hard with his morality. I expected a romance where the clash of good & evil would be clear, not a mess of gray.
For the first time I was considering just shelving this as a DNF, but I thought maybe the second half would reel me in somehow. By the time I got to the last chapter I found that my issues were still present, they might have shifted more to my lack of connecting with any of the characters rather than the initial peeves I had - but they were there none the less.
He's lived a life of high society and privilege and she's lived a life surrounded with underground activity..She's desired by men and envied by woman!!
He wants to stamp out organized crime and she's the ruthless and tough Mob Boss and in her world all lines are blurred!!
Her father was the head of the family until he passed away three years ago, the take over for Frankie was easy, the ones who didn't adapt were taken out..
After taking care of business she's out on her second date at her restaurant she owns, she's finding the date boring as fuck and doesn't mince her words in telling her date for the night that, this will in fact be the last one.
"Justin, this'll be our last date, frankly you're boring me and I'm not feeling anything with you. I'm really struggling to stay awake with you, Justin."
As she's leaving the restaurant she's knocked flat on her ass, "fuck me" me mumbles, she looks up into smoky grey eyes, short jet black hair, just a little longer than a buzz cut, perfect square jaw line, beautiful sculptured nose and kissable lips..
"Miss DeLuca, what a pleasant surprise, I should introduce myself"
"I know exactly who you are, Mr Miller."
How can one man look so perfect and be so gorgeous and yet be a pain in my fucking ass!!
Jeremy Miller's a Senator, who can't be bought off and has made it his mission to stamp out organized crime, so in other words, he wants to put Frankie behind bars.
He steps closer and brings his other hand up to rest on my ass, he leans in very close to me and I feel him take my ear lobe in his mouth.
Lets just stop there for a moment and just let me say that, that didn't actually go to plan and what actually did happen and Frankie's reaction will make you laugh!!
"Tonight you belong to me Darling", my breath hitches while my clit clenches, "I belong to no man, Senator."
"Tonight you'll do what I want. Tonight your mine and everything I want, you're going to do what I want."
Tonight I'll allow Jeremy to own me but tomorrow it's back to business as usual..
With passion and love, With love and want, With heat and determination, With heart and soul, Frankie would swap her life for his.
He challenges her, He pushes her, He excites her, He infuriates her, but most importantly He sees her!!
"Without you I have no courage." "Without you I have no soul." "Without you I have no life"
Here's the thing if I could give this book more than 5 stars it would be getting slapped with it!!
Once I started this I seriously couldn't put it down, my eyes would be drooping and I'd be telling myself come on just one more chapter then you can sleep, one more chapter turned into me finishing the book in one seating..
I Lived It, I breathed it, I couldn't put it down!! Highly recommend!!
If you love a strong kick ass heroine, look no further this book is for you!!
I could sit here and rave on and on about this book but the best thing to do is go grab a copy of this yourself as it's set at a very low price, I also don't want to give too much away!!
But do yourself a favor and grab a copy it's seriously that good!!
Okay so when I read this synopsis I was so excited, it sounds so good.I loved Margaret McHeyzer books (HiT series) and I was intrigued to see how this book would turn out.I have to say if you are wanting to read about a whiny, weak, sweet female main character yeah this book isn't for you because Margaret just doesn't roll that way ;) If you are looking for a bad-ass, independent, sometimes bitchy character who doesn't whine all the time and stands up for herself then my friends this is the book for you!
Frankie DeLuca isn't your average women, whilst she may look all beautiful and delicate there is a lot more to her than meets the eye.At the beginning you see her character as cold, bitchy and in control. Its what you have to be when you are a Mob Boss.In a world of crime, power and money you have to toughen up and there is no time for normal things, normal can get you killed because when you look at it being a Mob Boss isn't a normal job. After her father died she had to take over and now this is her life.
"..I'm not good, I'll never be good.I give orders that would give you nightmares.I can destroy anyone with a simple look.Do you understand that?.."
Jeremy Miller is a Senator. After his father dies he decided to follow his footsteps and now he wants to rid the area of crimes taking place. He wants to stamp out organised crime and can’t be bought off.Little does he know his life will be flipped and lines between good and bad will become blurred. It all happens when Frankie knocks right into Jeremy. They have a connection, chemistry and much more. What will happen when Jeremy finds out that the connections between DeLuca's and Miller's runs deep.
How can one man look so perfect and be so gorgeous yet be a pain in my fucking arse. Jeremy Miller's a Senator.
Can a mob Boss and Senator be in a relationship? Will the past connections bring them together or rip them apart? With dangers all around how long will it all last?
At first I felt like oohh I don't really know about this, I love an alpha male so when I read this and its like Frankie is running the show I felt out of my comfort zone. I had to question the fact that why is it okay when its the guy but when its a women being like uhm Alpha female? ( weird right?) it made me feel slightly uncomfortable.Well at first I felt like Jeremy was being a bit of a pussy then later on he kind of takes back the control its more balanced. I liked that it was different , I liked watching their relationship change throughout. How Frankie gives up her control. She has always had to take control because that who she is, that's how she was raised and being a Mob Boss you have full rein to give it up feels like a weakness. Giving it up for Jeremy is different..
"I need you and I want you.My life for yours, Frankie."
This book is a stand-alone and is in Frankie's POV. I would have liked some parts to be in Jeremy's POV I wanted to know more about him and how he felt throughout this book. Okay now the epilogue oh my.. I did not expect that at all!! Like why? My heart hurt! But yeah I got over it it's a lie I am dying here!
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~**~*~*~*~*~*~*~ **ARC courtesy of the author in exchange for an honest review**
A Mafia boss and a Senator! Of two different worlds!
"He’s lived a life of high society and privilege; he chose to follow in his father’s footsteps and become a Senator. She’s lived a life surrounded with underworld activity; she had no choice but to follow in her father’s footsteps and take on the role of Mob Boss."
"Being together doesn’t make sense. But being apart isn’t an option."
Frankie is not your typical female character, she is sassy, sexy and a real bitch and I love her! And Senator Jeremy Miller may not be the boss of her but he certainly is the boss in the bedroom.
His her redemption..... she's her resolution.... together they fit perfectly....
This book is sexy, hot, sassy-funny and explosive. And the epilogue? I am still processing.... ;)
The ARC for this book was provided to me by Margaret McHeyzer for honest review.
People don't seem to like a book because it provokes emotions that they don't like. However as an author having the ability to stir up those emotions, good or bad, in the first place is a credit to them. This book turned on every possible emotion and when reading Margaret's books you need to be willing to understand and accept all those wonderful emotions.... If you open this book with this thought in mind: "SHOCK ME" then you'll truly enjoy the read.
I have read and loved Margaret's other goodreads in the “HiT” Series however Margaret’s newest stand alone that is due for release on November 18th “My Life for Yours” takes her work to the next level.
Frankie Deluca has risen to the top of her Mob boss family. She is a diamond in the rough, takes no prisoners, and runs a well oiled operation with her father’s close friend “G”
Jeremy Miller is a Senator because he wants follow in the foot-steps of his own father. Jeremy is private school, well educated and clearly has never gone without.
When Frankie runs into Jeremy at one of her legitimate establishments there are sparks, sure Frankie is resistant....
“You do know who I am don’t you? Just in case you think I’m Cinderella or Snow fucking White.”
but really.... she knows she wants it....
from the very beginning Frankie and Jeremy are HOT, and then HOT all quickly turns VOLCANIC…… The connection and encounters between Frankie and Jeremy are truly some of the most erotic and well written scenes I have read….
In true Margaret McHeyzer style there are twists and turns around every corner and by the end of it I felt every possible emotion, so much so I sat on the couch and stared at my kindle for about 20 minutes just processing what I had read. As soon as I processed I slid the progression bar back to the start and read it over again.
I can’t tell you anymore without giving spoilers away, but what I can tell you is that you need to spend the time and money to read this wonderful, wonderful story.
Well Done Margaret, every credit to you on an amazing read.
When I read the synopsis, I was intrigued. I thought it was going to be about a taboo relationship. She was a bad ass which I liked but he was weak and wasn't fighting any crime. It was insta-love. No tension like I hoped there would be. It was a story about who was after her. It was a good reveal because I didn't see it coming but the ending was rushed and it came out of nowhere.
OMG, I didn't saw this coming! Kick ass heroine, hot as sin hero, amazing sex! It is fast paced, and I love it that way, no wasting time on fighting it, and totally unexpected end! HUGE THANKS on author ,because it's stand alone, and no damn cliffhanger!
I’ve previously read and really enjoyed Margaret McHeyzer’s Drowning and have since been interested in diving into more of the author’s work. Although I have a couple of books on my Kindle that are in the same genre – young adult, on the edge of new adult, contemporary romance – I decided to read My Life for Yours first. It’s a very different genre, yet I was interested in seeing how McHeyzer approached it.
Although it is not always the case, I often find author’s have one genre where they really shine. With Margaret McHeyzer, based upon the two books I have read, I’m thinking such may be the case here. Drowning hit me hard, whereas My Life for Yours was difficult to get through.
I love a good mob story, I’m always happy to dive into erotic reads, yet this one failed to bring about any of the emotions it should have. I never connected with the characters and the story was overly predictable. The only thing that really saved it for me was the epilogue. The epilogue was the only aspect I found unexpected – it caught me completely off-guard, being very different to how these kinds of stories usually play out, and I appreciated this.
I’ll certainly be reading more Margaret McHeyzer, but I’ll be sticking to her books that are more in line with Drowning and less in line with My Life for Yours.
I'm a fan of the Hit Series of Ms.Margaret McHeyzer, when I found out that she is launching a new book with a different genre I became so excited and when I read the excerpt of the book I'm done! I love the story line it is about a mob boss and a senator. Two different poles attract each other and when they collided they explode!!!
I love reading a story about Mobs there's something in it that attracts me (^o^). I'm so eager to start reading My Life For Yours cause it tackles the "love story" of the two different individuals that most likely will opposed each other. Meet the Mob boss, Frankie DeLuca, she is one sexy and hot alpha female, a BITCH literally (because of her job) and I love her. She has the power and the balls (ahem). And meet the Senator! Jeremy *fucking* Miller (lol) very passionate man, he has a very skillful tongue (*fanning myself*) and the BOSS in the bedroom.
I'm so excited for this review I forgot to thank Ms.Margaret for the copy, Thank You so Much I'm really happy and surprised, I saw my name on the dedication, I'm sincerely touched *(^o^)*
The story is well written and clear, as expected. Every sex scene is very HOT! as in HOT! HOT! HOT! I love the twist and turn of the story and even 15 is there! It was a very nice story, erotic but still have the suspense, and I didn't expected the ending! I'm not prepared for it! But it makes the story more realistic, very beautiful.
I am one of the lucky ones who have read this book buy Margaret and I was given a ARC for a honest review. Where to start, This is the story of Frankie a female mob boss and the man she calls The Senator. I was drawn into this book from the very first sentence. I seriously did not want to put it down. I had to make sure I had everything done so I could sit down and read it with no one bugging me. The Author told me it was a little bit different and it was and it wasn't if that makes sense at all. I fell completely in love with both characters. I laughed and I cried but worth every tear that I shed. I don't like to give out spoilers in a review especially a book that has not been released yet but I will say that this book and this author will be worth the money that you spend. I know she has put a lot of her heart and soul into this book and as a new Author I hope and pray that this book makes Margaret quickly rise to the top because yes people it is that good. If you miss out on purchasing My Life For Yours you are missing out on one of the best books that I have truly read in a long time. Add this to your list and buy it when it comes out. Kathy Coopmans Panty dropping book blog.
I am stunned and not in a good way. From the blurb I got that this is about a taboo relationship, steamy scenes, and criminal activity. There was a ton of all of that, but in a clinical detached view. I did not feel the connection between Franky and Jeremy. And then once things are going well BAM the epilogue just slaps you upside the head. Seriously how was that related to what they went through during the whole book? There is no HEA here, and seriously the first time I felt anything was in the epilogue and I was sad and pissed!
I was giving an ARC of this book for an honest review so here it is....
I liked the synopsis of this book. It drew me in. The honest senator and a mob boss falling for each other. It sounded like some messed up fairy tale. He should be wanting nothing to do with her with what she does in he life. She had to take over the 'family business' when her dad dies of a heart attack three years before this. But it doesn't matter what she does. From the moment they literally run into each other he can't stay away. There first meeting is.....interesting to say the least. But it leaves Frankie annoyed at Jeremy(the senator) I won't say why,but it's too funny!
After there first meeting, and there first taste of each other Jeremy is hooked and kinda demands she go on a date with him. He know's who she is,and with the flick of a hand she could have him killed but she brings out him dominant side. And he need's her. He's only met her,and he already know's she's someone who means alot to him.
Frankie on the other hand is as stubborn as they come. She acts as if there relationship means nothing to her. She doesn't love anyone other then G,her right hand man who has been there her whole life. And herself. So the senator is acting to mushy for her liking. Which she points out frequently.
He love's her sas thought. He love's the way she run's her mouth and doesn't care what people think. Because he can give as much as she does. There relationship is complicated though. Well not for him. He's just made about Frankie. But for her it is. She has the family business to run. So she has to do what she's gotta do. And one of these things involves Jeremy and his mother. I won't say what, but if your like me you'll hate his mother. She is a cold hearted *****.
They get pass that, only for more things to be threw at them. Frankie is having trouble's. Someone is out to take her out,and start a war between different family's. Making it look as if it's her starting the war. She has no flipping idea who's doing it all. But from what she works out it has to be someone who's been working for her. That kill's her. That it's someone she trusts so much. I won;t say who it is,but WOW. Didn't see that one coming!
I did really like this book. I sank into reading it. BUT I will tell you the ending is a shocker! For a stand alone novel. When I got to the end I can only imagine my face looked like a fish blowing bubble's. Shocked doesn't even come close to what I was. And that is why it gets four stars and not five. But I would read more from this author. Hopefully there will be no more shocking fish faces pulled from me though :)
I saw this recommendation on a blog and so I decided to check it out. The only thing I liked about the story, from what I read was the synopsis. At 12%, I knew I was going to have problems. I couldn't connect with the main character, she was not to my liking. The British terms the author used didn't go with the Boston setting. I just didn't like it.
I sometimes like to skip ahead when I'm having trouble with the book to see if it's worth continuing and I'm glad I did cause from the epilogue, I would have been upset if I stuck with it. It's something I really dislike in my reads. I don't know if the author was going for shock but I would have liked a better ending even though I didn't finish reading the book.
I received an ARC from Margaret for an honest review. I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was full of emotions and yes I did cry. Frankie is a one kick ass mob boss and The Senator oh my word! Jeremy Miller is swoon worthy! This book is captivating from the moment it starts. You don't know what's going to happen and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Not going into details of the book bc that'll mean spoilers. I don't do spoilers. But will say Jeremy adores Frankie and tries to break her down for her to realize just because she's bad ass she can love. And boy do they ignite between the sheets!!! Most definite a mid read!!
3.5 Stars The first half of this book starts off rocky. I think the author has good ideas but has a difficult time finding her voice and it come out very choppy. This is a fast read, and once I was able to get lost in the story it flew by. I can honestly say I was FLOORED by the epilogue, but it gave the story a lot more credibility. I love all the wonderful British authors I just have a hard time with all the British terms when the book is set here in the States, sometime it takes away from the authenticity of the story.
WTF??? I wanted to like this book, I really did. But I couldn't like the female character to save my life. The male, complete wimp. And on top of it, the author is using the Queen's English and yet the story is supposedly based in the States. If you're going to write a book based in the US, use US terms.Do your research! Not millimeters, arse, etc. and don't rip the rug out from under the reader in the epilogue. I'm really sorry, I always try to think of something good to say; I recognize the incredible amount of work that goes into writing a book. But this time, I'm just not a fan.
Bleh. I hate giving anything less than a 3 star review. To me anything less is bad, and I don't even give out 1 stars unless it's atrocious.
I always give my hats off to authors. I hate giving bad reviews, but opinions matter in this business and I want each and every author I read to be successful. So while this is a little harsh, I hope it only helps make the next one better.
I don't know what was more annoying about this book than the language. First of all, this book takes place in Boston, as in Massachusetts, as in the United States. But the author is obviously British which is fine, except all the words were spelled and all the slang and insults were done in British. If you want a book, especially one about a mobster, to take place in Boston (the place of the US that probably has the heaviest accent and most specific slang) then you should probably take the time to write the book appropriately to mirror that because it was completely distracting and even more frustrating.
The book wasn't all bad, honestly the plot had great potential but it was just horribly executed.
Likes:
The sex--it was hot, it was dirty, it was well distributed. It probably started a little too soon, but the chemistry with the characters was definitely good.
The plot itself--loved this idea. It kind of vaguely made me think of Bullet To The Heart which was a great story. High potential, higher letdown unfortunately.
Characters--both Frankie and Jeremy were good characters. I liked G too. They just needed way more development. I needed to care about them.
Dislikes:
The language versus the setting.
The way too quick pace of this book--I don't mind fast paced stories but this one just wasn't executed well in my opinion.
The sex and love--I know the sex was a positive, and it is, but these characters somehow had time to fall in love without any real development in their relationship. One date does not cut it unless it's more than a picnic and falling asleep under the stars.
Sometimes the way things were discussed or decided by characters was too abrupt. The progression of this story seemed too stilted without nice transitions. There was little flow.
Overall this is a very quick read. The epilogue was the only emotional moment of this story and I hate to say it ended horribly after everything. It's like there just had to be one horrendously tragic event to happen when everything finally seemed ok. It's one thing to not get the HEA but damn. I can't say I would recommend this book.
I kid you not ,,,,, what a hell of a book!!!!! ,,,, I've finished this book and I am SPEECHLESS ,,,, I just don't know where to begin ,,, I will try!!
Ok so we have the mob boss ,,, not your normal scenario ,,, the boss is a woman ,,, the only one left in the bloodline that could take over the business after her father dies ,,,, she is one seriously awesome character ,,, I loved her firey character the moment I met her and wow does she have some serious balls ,,, this girl definitely knows what she wants she will demand and get it and if she doesn't then you'll soon know and be dismissed
We then have the senator ,,, he's a hot piece of ass ,,, he has a tongue on him that's for sure and definitely knows how to talk the talk ,,, BUT can he walk the walk
Two warps of life collide in this story and evil finds it's way into the story through it all these two find each other and the connection they have will be hard to break ,,, but the lives they live are so different and this could be where they break ,,, can either change enough for the other in order to live a life together? ,,, when your the mob boss there will always be someone trying to get to you and those you care about ,,, but the smartest will prevail ,,, won't they???
This is a great story I've really enjoyed it ,,, heaps of angst to keep you turning the pages and a very unexpected ending that has left me reeling :( not sure this book is one I'll forget anytime soon ,,, there is some SERIOUS H.O.T. Sex in this book too ,,, if this is not your cup of tea then think twice about his book ,,, but if it is ;) then seriously give it a go it's worth the read ,,, I wish I could explain what the ending has done to me but I don't want to spoil it for any of you ,,, I promise you it's great!!!!
So, at least I can say I gave this one a fair shot before I chalked it up to a DNF because even after the first few pages I was ready to quit but I forced myslef to continue in hopes of it getting better.
Sadly, it didn't.
Three things that ruined this for me.
1. It moved too fast. Within the first few pages we find the herione already screwing the hero in her limo within minutes of meeting him for the first time and it moves just as quickly from there.
2. This goes hand in hand with number one. We got the "instas" on our hands. Insta-lust and insta-love. The hero is clearly enamored with the herione just from the first "meeting" or hookup (whatever ya wanna call it) even though the herione is nothing but a bitch and even kicks him out of her limo because he got off before she did.
3.This brings me to my third issue. I HATED the herione. She was cold, hard, and frigid. Yeah, I know with a mob boss ya gotta have some major balls but Francesca or "Frankie" as she likes to be called was practically a man. She was too tough, too bold, too hard. She has absolutely nothing feminine about her or nothing vulnerable. It was a turn off and made it really hard to connect or even like her.
The only positive thing I can say about this book is the sex scenes where pretty hot, but a story needs more than steamy dirty sex to keep my attention.
I really struggled with this book. I found it difficult to connect with the characters and found that the story was disjointed and didn't flow. I find it extremely difficult to write negative reviews as I am aware that the author has put her heart and soul into her writing. Having said that, I prefer to read honest reviews which help me determine whether or not I will enjoy a book. Reading is subjective and therefore I'm sure that alot of readers will enjoy this - it just wasn't for me.
This book had a different twist to it but I liked it a lot. Instead of the bad boy it was a bad girl and it was a fun read. I really enjoyed the characters and all the very steamy scenes this book had. The story was so sweet, watching her struggle to get where they got. This book had so many twists that you didn't expect that it made for a very fun read. Although I enjoyed the book the ending just got to me so very much. I don't really want to say much more but, I just can't say much more. A very enjoyable read.
Great story, lots of steamy, hot, sex. Screwed up family on one side and loving, protective, family for the other. Twists and turns not expected. Not to sure how I feel about the epilogue, it really threw me for a loop. Was not expecting that at all, guess it was just another twist. Great read over all, I loved it.
