As the volcanic ash cloud spews into the atmosphere the dust claws its way across northern Europe grinding the air industry to a halt. As the particles clog the machinery the wind turbines stop turning and the haulage companies, fearing the worst, cease to use their trucks. Petrol stations run dry and shops become empty; within two weeks a shattered Britain is on her knees. Jake Meadows, working for the oil industry, is sent to Scotland to investigate but soon becomes marooned. He wakes one morning from a deep sleep to find a world where civilisation has been destroyed. The dead lie festering and unburied, basic amenities are a thing of the past. Jake now has one aim in life - to get back to his daughter Amber, who is staying with his parents in South Wales. On a journey where he will come across pockets of survivors in a land devoid of law and order the path is a perilous one. A new danger has also risen from the poisonous dust, an infected body of mutated humans marauding their way across the country, intent on destruction and bloodlust. A chilling post-apocalyptic horror novel, Bloodlust is book one of David H Sharp’s exciting new series, The Dust. Do you dare to read?
David was born in Usk South Wales in the early seventies. He has been writing for some years but his first novel 'The Murder of Crows' was released in 2012. “The Dust. Book 1 – Bloodlust” by David H. Sharp is a post-semi-apocalyptic-dystopian inaugural volume of “The Dust” series. Something utterly foreign and unknown has caused a massive cloud of ash, later determined to be dust, to settle over the British Isles, fouling machinery, halting delivery of food and other necessaries, and generally making life inconvenient for everybody.
Due to a loss of communication, the people of the island had no way of knowing the full extent of the dust cloud, but one evening as the sun was setting, the dust seemed to settle to the ground, creating a magnificent sunset which enthralled the populace. When people awoke in the morning, they were incredibly thirsty, and they all had headaches… at least the living did. Whatever the dust was, wherever it came from, it had a very decisive effect on everybody, in one of three possible ways. Some lived, some died, and some… well, it’s hard to say exactly what happened to them. Survival quickly became the prime objective. Unfortunately, not everybody plays nice.
“Bloodlust” features an unknown antagonist, a concept new to me. David H. Sharp has conceived a brilliant idea for ending life as we know it. Sharp has also very cleverly hidden from readers the ultimate cause of the ash or dust cloud; that alone is reason enough for me to read the rest of the series as it is made available. Trite as this sounds, this book is a real page-turner.
There were only three words in the entire book that I did not enjoy reading: To Be Continued…. However, I will definitely look forward to continuing the series. “The Dust. Book 1 - Bloodlust” is a masterful stroke of genius. I fully expect Book 2 of this series to be as captivating. I invite you to read “Bloodlust”. I am confident you, too, will be anxiously awaiting the next episode in this impressively crafted saga.
Britain (UK). When Frank Furbridge (husband) came downstairs to the kitchen Nancy Anne (wife) really surprised him. A knife in his right eye & a fork in his left eye. She wasn’t done yet. Jake Meadows (Crutech oil industry) was in Scotland far/far away from his home in Caldicot (Severn Bridge, Wales).
Chad Candy & was confronted by Jordan Davidson (gang leader). A nice garden spade ended Chad’s life. Doris (Chad’s mom) was already dead. Brampton (town). Lucy “Peppercorn” Williams (9), was out walking Bonzo (chocolate brown Labrador). Lucy was confronted by Mr. Lonnie Gold (boss), Archibald “Archie” Stanton, & Harry James. They offered Lucy a ride home in the back of their army truck. Angelica “Angel” Carpenter was in the back also. Jake & Roger Clough (45+, driver) were traveling around & came across Joanna Mallows (40). She was bleeding profusely from a big gash in her neck.
They buried her & headed for Newcastle. Otters Holt farm. Jeremiah Rosser (dad) told Richard Rosser (son) all their cows were dead & slit open & gutted. There were 3 dead mangled up human bodies also. They decided to leave the farm, but on the way Richard was slaughtered. Lucy “Lou” Pepper & Angel somehow managed to escape. Jake & Roger offered the 2 of them a ride. A band of 16 survivors had all got together.
They would have to battle for York. Fast forward will humanity cease to exist?

I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review. Only an honest one.
A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. Wow, a very well written horror book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great horror movie, or better yet a mini TV series. Kind of cheesy so I will only rate it at 4/5 stars.

The Dust throws a bunch of characters together, who are so well defined, that it becomes an emotional ride. Some are worthy of readers care and concern whilst others, not so much. I love a story that has a quest that involves travel through places that would ordinarily be pleasant. This time, I was sitting on the edge of my chair, ready to jump up and run away. Yes, the writing is that suspenseful. Also, sinister comes to mind with the horrors that await our heroes. I would get over one episode that left me with creepy feelings, and another jumped up to scare me.
This is truly a fast moving story and the author has done a remarkable job with keeping it all together. I like his style of writing, and the way he moves his characters around on the chessboard of this game is thrilling.
When there was a punctuation error in the very first sentence of the book, that was a clue that the author didn't pay much attention to the editing. Unfortunately, it got worse from there. I found myself rewriting sentences in my head to 'fix' them. A DNF.
I like this story it is different than a lot of zompoc novels. The characters are really well written. You will like most of them and absolutely hate a couple.
Gruesomely good. Many characters meet after the dust falls, trying to stay alive after encountering the infected. Well written and great character development.
I really enjoyed this book and am ready to begin the 2nd one. I was just ready along on my Kindle, not paying attention to page numbers--turned the page and it said 'to be continuned'. I nearly cried!!! :-)
One day people wake up and the air is full of dust and no one knows where it comes from. It didn't take long for the dust to get into everything and cause major problems in electrical and mechanical things. Then one night it settles and causes a wonderful light show in the evening. A couple of days go by and some people wake up to a devastated world and some people don't wake up at all and THEN some people are changed into what are intelligent zombies. What is the dust, why are some left alive, and why are there zombie groups??
Society shuts down and those that did wake up realize they are on their own. Small groups gather together into survivor groups. 'to be continued'
Decent character development but the typos left me deciphering many phrases, not just misspellings but wrong words. I do like the idea behind this apocalyptic zombie style book and would recommend it so far on that basis. A quick read that I got free. I'm not sure if I would have been happy to pay for it though unless the next part has better editing.
This book got better as it went on. I like books written from many perspectives but this one jumped a little to quickly and therefore I didn't build a connection with the characters very quickly. I really like the premise of this series though and I am intrigued to read more. The book was relatively short but still managed to explain the back story and inform us of the events leading up to when we join the story.
Just finished the first installment in The Dust Series ~ Bloodlust. And I am getting book 2! While I am a fan of dystopian books, this one was one of the better ones. It is more "adult" than most and the mix of characters kept me interested. Check it out!
