Haven #1-3

Haven Magic

Rate this book
The humans have no magic and are hunted for sport, but that is about to change. War is coming....

The Sun Dragon spawned nine lesser dragons which devoured their parent for the power the elder possessed. These young dragons fought for choice bits of the Sun Dragon, but each only managed to eat a portion, thus giving them specific powers. Over time, these foul dragons were hunted down and slain by heroes of old. When each body rotted away, nothing remained save for nine Jewels--each the lens of a dragon's left eye. These Nine Eyes, or Jewels, form the basis for all magic in the world.

The Haven Series is a fantasy epic about the Nine Jewels of Power, each of which represents a different form of magic. The Red Jewel, known as Sang, gives the wielder power over Blood Magic. The Blue, named Lavatis, can call the Rainbow and rules the Sky.

HAVEN MAGIC is a compendium of three previously published books: Amber Magic, Sky Magic and Shadow Magic, the start of an epic seven book series of fantasy novels by bestselling author B. V. Larson.

I'm fed up of this stupid cliche, where a guy follows a stupid girl who thinks she knows better than everyone else, into mortal danger. I'm pissed off how they followed this stupid girl. Also, it looks like this is borrowing from Merlin, The Wild Hunt, etc. So far I'm not enjoying it. I think I like Larson's Scifi more than his fantasy.

Hmm.

I was enjoying the second book more than the first. I don't know if it's because the starting of the second had a little history lesson, but this guy being lead by his breaches, and absolving this idiot girl of every wrong she committed is pissing me off. I haven't read books this cliche in ages. If I didn't love the undying Mercenaries I would drop this book like a hot potato.

He was warned multiple times, and showed nothing but bravado when it was implied that the ground was dangerous. He called the guy a coward and went to sleep. Now he awakes and blames the guy for not staying, even when he warned them that it was dangerous. This is just bad cliches up the ass.

I just realised something

The Author uses a lot pf terms or phrases that have no right in this world. As devices that they mention does not exist.

The novel turned out to be a generic "kid gets magical weapon, goes on a journey, comes back changed" trope. I think this is focused more towards the young adult spectrum. It was too kiddie and cliched for me, didn't really enjoy it. If this novel wasn't in a three in one format, I probably would have dropped the series at book one.

There wasn't really anything new with the fairy angle. It combines a bunch of myths in an uninteresting way. I think I will stick with BV Larson's scifi novels, I do not enjoy his fantasy.

The River Folk and the Fair Folk, humans and faeries, have had an uneasy Pact for so long that the humans don't quite remember the context of it all. Though the faerie have no love to give each other, and even less for the humans, they all agree that there is danger afoot that they all want to avoid: a dark race of undying hunters.

From dead kingdoms to goblin-infested swamps, Larson has called on many myths and legends to create a dark, morbid fantasy where good and evil clash for the most human hearted, but for the haughty, it is only a matter of those who are pleasant and those who are unnpleasant.
