One sip from the Grayel has made Vervain Lavine immortal. She's finally truly a goddess but that doesn't mean she can't die, just that the task of killing her has become much harder for those gods who want her dead. That list seems to be getting longer and the latest name on it is Xi Wangmu, The Chinese Plague and Tiger Goddess. Xi Wangmu has come to Hawaii and she's brought Black Death with her. As the Godhunter races to catch a tiger by her toe, more and more obstacles are thrown in her way. From an unhappy alpha werewolf to the headaches of her human family, it looks like Vervain's going to need a little help this time. Being a goddess isn't all it's cracked up to be.

I was totally on board for the first 3 books in this series, but not the 4th. The hole multiple lovers thing is not something that does it for me. Not sure wehter I will read more in this series...
These books are good, and I really enjoy the interesting interplay of fantasy, witches, gods and other fantastical beings, but the story line does tend to be more and more sexually based and that does get boring, especially since it's centered only on the main character, Vervain... no-one (who starts out human, anyway, even if they then become a god) is THAT enticing or fascinating, especially when there are so many other goddesses around who supposedly have goddess-like attributes! I guess the believability factor is at stake here...
I fucking hate petulant baby Trevor and toddler Thor. Sick of them. They can die please Trevor still managed to make me have more dislike for this book, but oh dear am I in love with Kirill and Azrael, such sweethearts and hawtttt. And azrael is so badass!!! Oh and the little tidbit of foreshadowing with dragon n°1 hihi. This book isn’t m’y favorite of the series, but it wasn’t bad either. This one might’ve been a little too centered on the romance and not enough on the actual plot. However the next book I think is going to be much much much better.
At first, it seemed like this one wouldn't focus on a new man, like all the first four books did. But, then the author went: PSYCHE! - and threw a new man at Vervain. Bah.
In this one the plot really took a backseat to the relationship drama, which wasn't as bad as I could've feared, it just made the case not-so-interesting.
For some mild spoilers:
I'm getting so tired of her men being either lovelorn idiots with no backbone, temper tantrum-throwing children, crybabies or are vascillating between the three. Honestly, the worst? There are so many men crying. I mean, what the fuck? It's all well and nice that the men are big and muscly, but that sure as shit doesn't make them manly men, when they are crying over Vervain every fucking five minutes!!!! Honestly, that's the last peeve I'm really annoyed over. Now that I've read five books, I've realized that my other complaints are just stuff that's part of the series and if I have to read these books, I just have to accept that. I just really wish that the men were less lovestruck puppy dogs and more... well, acting more like the fucking gods that they are! And showing some fucking backbone and decisiveness. I mean, shit, they got stuff done before Vervain, didn't they? Man up, guys!
Vervain and Trevor are having some issues. Things from Vervain's past are coming back to light and Trevor isn't dealing with it so well. Now, she must continue on trying to save Hawaii from the Black Death and deal with Trevor's issue. However, she ends up meeting an angel along the way who just be exactly what she needs.
I thought this one was really good. I enjoyed the whole plot line and the new addition to the group as well. The only thing that got on my nerves was Trevor. He drove me nuts with the way he was acting. But, I liked seeing Vervain being closer to her other men as well.
This whole reverse harem thing seem kind of rushed. Vervain improved a lot since the first book, I like her much more but still sometimes (like in this book) she gets on my nerves. How could she add another boyfriend without consulting Trevor when this was the reason he went to Hel in the first place. On the other hand I believe the Froekn bond should have helped him understand her better but instead he was sulking most of the time. I get it, I really do, but for god's sake man up!
SPOILERS THROUGHOUT: I really liked this installment in The Godhunter series. We were introduced to some new characters and some old faces were in it as well. Some new enemies were created, while some old enemies were vanquished. We met some new gods/goddesses that I have never heard of so I enjoyed getting to learn some more in mythology. I have said it before that I like Vervain and I have expressed my enjoyment of being in her head. I love her inner-monologue and her overall attitude is refreshing. She always has me laughing and I love how she always has something snarky to say, no matter what situation she is in. Azrael is the new edition to Vervain's growing harem. I have to say that I really enjoyed the addition of his character. I love angels as a species and I was so excited to learn more about Azrael when I found out that he was one. When I found out that he was the angel of death, I was only more intrigued. I am excited to see more of him in the future and I look forward to seeing how the dynamic of Vervain's harem is going to change with him in it. My problems with this book have to do with the villains. I have noticed lately that Vervain gets kidnapped pretty frequently and it seems like as soon as Vervain is abducted, she is free again. This is extremely anti-climactic and I don't enjoy it. I also felt like Xi Wangmu had the potential to be a big adversary for Vervain and the problem was solved by talking to her at the end of the book. I felt like Xi Wangmu was just a plot filler for this book. She didn't really do anything and she was resolved entirely too easily. It felt like a waste of my time. Overall, I did enjoy this book. It took me a while to get into it, but once I did, I was all in. I am still concerned with the whole Anubis plot line, but I am not as worried now. Azrael has come into the picture and I hope that Vervain's inner powers will be satisfied with their fascination with death now. I will be continuing the series and I am excited to read the next book, A Taste For Blood .
Again, the author had to bash Christianity. I understand not everybody is a Christian. However, I would never begrudge or speak condescending about another's beliefs and and would hope for the same courtesy extended. Are there hypocrites, evil hiding behind the Christian faith and zealots? Yes, but there are more good people than bad. Unfortunately, like everything in life, there are bad apples. But my belief does not make me stupid or a sheep. Lets leave it with this statement, if I die and there is no god, I have lost nothing. Yet, if I die and there is a god, I have gained everything.
Okay, now for the review. I like the fact that Trevor has set the rules and takes into consideration Vervain 's feelings too, in regards to future mates. However, I really do have a problem with the reverse harem aspect. It seems like she loves Trevor the most (until the new addition) and the rest are booty calls that have been approved by her boyfriend. Also, it seems like Odin is a side note. Again, this series really seems like it should never have been a reverse harem.
If not for an addition to her harem, not much happened in the book.
Vervain is back! Not w she is chasing the Tiger Goddess of The Plague. She's having issues with her alpha wolf mate after he sees her kissing her previous captor . She also meets an Angel To whom she has an intense reaction to. She also must deal with her ex Thor. Poor gal has a lot on her plate for sure! I love the mix of mission, God Squad, action and romance! Can't wait to read the next book!
Frankly I just thought Trevor was a complete a-hole in this edition to the series. His behavior was childish and selfish. Vervaine has made mistakes but she apologized and her mistakes, definitely were not worse than the words that Trevor spoke and his ridiculous actions. This was not my favorite installment.
Great pacing and an interesting addition with the angel Azreal. Loved the plot and story progression, but it lacked a little spark-- not sure what (could be the flat conclusion to the problem with the Tiger Goddess- it was anticlimactic after such a long chase), but I'll keep reading due to the story line, which sucked me in.
I love the humour in these books, have to say I'm not sure how Vervain keeps up with all the sex though!! Thought that a hippy Jesus was hilarious and I love how the preconceived ideas that humans have on gods is used in these books.
Love the whole been shell and now see heaven. I will say I hold my breath every time Rain goes to speak to Vervain, the doom and gloom is very appropriate.
Green tea and black death is very well written, exciting and full of beauty. The characters are funny, loveable and sexy. This book has some major heat in it!
Huh, ok, so I am happy that this series has included gods from non European nations. such as Egypt and now India and China. It is very cool to learn about other cultures through fantasy fiction.
But again this story doesn't seem to fuel the overall god war rather its a skirmish with someone who, quite frankly, thinks she is doing the job she was given.
Once again I find these books to be highly entertaining and would recommend them to anyone who is in need of a truly refreshing need of an original story idea. The plot is inventive and the characters are smart and witty and the conversation are never boring or slow. the only reason I find myself holding back from that final fifth star this time around was the lack of a truly good villain. I like how some of the storyline are converging and coming full circle but the lack of a good and truly detestable long term bad guy is disappointing to me. Not enough to stop me from reading of course (smile, wink, wink). I am very much addicted to these books.
Stuff happens but overall feels like a filler book
Still love reading this series even though I can only stomach so much Polyamorus love in my life. Vervain gets a new boyfriend, makes up with Trevor, finds out more about her past, uses her love magic, and meets two new goddesses. Feels like her love life isn't gonna get any easier and maybe she even gains a new power down the road. Not many sightings of the Froeken or the Intare which I was a bit bummed about but overall story still flows good. J-man making an appearance at a funeral is also hilarious.
Like the rest of this series, Vivain pulls through with her normal snarky sense of humor. She has a few old enemies to death, complications with her love life, and gets to visit both heaven and hell. Vivain is funny and resilient and more than a little trouble, but following her adventures is well worth the read.
