This is a gem of a book, and so rich that I stopped highlighting sentences because I found I was underscoring more paragraphs than I was leaving blank.
One of my pastors gave us this intercessory teaching guide to read together as a leadership team. We were only assigned a section of it to read and discuss, but I ended up reading the entire book before the designated time.
The Intercessor Manual addresses the calling, the tools, potential pitfalls, and practical guidelines for those who travail in prayer for others. Rubsam outlines the intercessor's connection to prophecy, the need for knowledge of spiritual warfare, hearing from God, and she instructs on praying in tongues and how one's prayer language strengthens intercession. Additionally, she provides further reference books on all these topics by other generals in the faith.
One of the reasons my pastor said he chose this book for us to read together is that Rubsam keeps it clear and concise, and I concur. The writing, while rich, is on a level that is easy to understand and digest. I found much of the teaching to be a summary of what I've been learning by experience these past few years and in some ways only dimly sensed; therefore, it was encouraging to have solid, Biblical teaching that affirmed and highlighted this, but at the same time took me further in my understanding.
I've already recommended this book to several friends, including my mother who is also an intercessor. Whether you're an evangelist or a teacher or have some other calling, Jesus' example to us all was consistent prayer. Paul's instructions were to "pray at all times" and "pray without ceasing." Therefore, this book is for everyone
This book was a great overview of the ministry of intercession and brought up a lot of great tools, encouragements, and safeguards that other often overlook or ignore in intercession. It is definitely something I can use at the house of prayer on a regular basis.
