The following story takes place between books one and two of the Guardian Witch series and is told from the point of view of Andreas, the vampire. If you haven't read Awakening the Fire, some of the events mentioned will be unknown to you.

Ally Shields is the fantasy pen name of Janet L Buck, who also writes historical mysteries as J L Buck.

Ms Shields' Guardian Witch series was first released between 2012 and 2015 and were withdrawn by Etopia Press in 2023. Revised and updated editions were released later in 2023 with new covers and one title change.

Due to an ongoing story line, the author recommends this series be read in order, beginning with Awakening the Fire.

A sequel trilogy may be re-released in the future.

The Maggie York Paranormal Mystery trilogy, set in New Orleans and the Crosskeys trilogy may also be re-released with revised editions as time permits.

When not writing, Ms Shields reads multiple genres--urban fantasy, thrillers, mysteries, historical romance, and she loves to travel--anywhere, anytime.

This book is actually set from the story line from book 2, while Andreas is trying to figure out what to do with his feelings and protectiveness for her.

I loved that this is Andreas POV. Getting inside his mind was an exciting sneak peak. This novella was a sweet read, you get to see his thoughts and his true feelings for Ari.

I like the way Ally has included and split up the weretiger/wolf/bears

Plot, Pace, Writing style
As always Ally has a great writing style and great pace for this short story.

Final Thoughts: This is a nice little quick read between books.

I didn't realize there was a short story until I finished book #3, so this was out of order and I didn't really enjoy the reminders of our characters' behavior at that point in their acquaintance. But I'm not sure I'd have read book #2 if I had read this in order...

Very short story, but it is wonderful to read things from 'his' viewpoint.
