Take one desperate real estate agent… add a Navy SEAL who radiates sex through his pores… toss in a corpse, a pair of stilettos and a handful of friends, and watch the sparks fly…
Lieutenant Commander Mick Riley, a member of the fabled SEAL Team Six, can’t pull his eyes from Lacey Owens at the funeral of his mentor. Yet she is the type of woman he wants to avoid – the kind that gets him thinking about settling down, spawning kids, and finding lower-mortality employment.
Lacey has her own reasons for avoiding Mick. Tired of living in the shadow of her financial mogul sister, this real estate agent has tossed ethics aside to succeed in today’s beleaguered housing market. Her no-fail plan to land lucrative listings? Crashing the funerals of wealthy corpses with the hope their heirs will need to sell their homes.
But when their circles of friends collide, Lacey can’t avoid Mick’s rock-hard abs and a smile that melts her into a pool of hot wax. Friendship blossoms and passion simmers... even as she struggles to conceal the unethical business plan that brought him into her life.
SEAL the Deal is a full-length novel about the fine line that divides friendship and love, and the unexpected joy of crossing it.
When Kate Aster was in fifth grade, she wrote her debut novel on a spiral-bound notebook–a science fiction which ended with the tragic destruction of all humanity.
Fortunately, she’s gotten a lot more upbeat.
Now preferring romantic settings and blissfully happy endings, Kate just released her eighth book available on Amazon.
Kate is an avid snorkeler, “beach read” fanatic, and margarita connoisseur. She is so grateful for the support and positive reviews from her readers. Thank you!

I mean absolutely no disrespect to Ms. Aster and of course these are just my personal opinions and by no means represent all readers experiences but as much as I wanted to love this book, unfortunately it just did not work for me.
I am a sucker for a down on their luck heroine but weak heroines really piss me off and it did not take too many pages for me to realise that Lacey was in fact a weak heroine and her "career" was a joke. I must admit when I read the synopsis I felt uneasy about the whole "crashing funerals to try to get real estate listings" but like a chump, the promise of a hot Navy SEAL proved to be too strong and I actually purchased the book. Well, let me tell you reading about her unorthodox listing technique in detail was even more cringe worthy than I thought possible. And, as for the hot Navy Seal Ms. Aster dangled in front of me.....it pains me to say this, but, I found him lacking. I love my SEAL's to be hot blooded, brooding, slightly damaged alpha-males and whilst I concede that Mick was a hottie and sweet he just didn't give off that delicious dominant, alpha vibe I crave.
I'm not sure if it is because it the first book in the series or if this is just her writing style but I felt like there was far too much emphasis on the secondary characters and not enough story building between the main characters. None of the relationships felt natural and it all felt very forced. I actually finished the book feeling no real emotional connection to any of them, which was unfortunate because there was great potential for it.
I have been told the next book picks up the pace and delivers a great story but after being less than impressed with the first I am not too sure that I will get around to reading it.
That being said, I think I am going to have a good look on Goodreads and find some of Ms. Aster's other work and give it a try before I pass judgement on her writing style overall. Who knows, maybe her next book will knock my socks off..... here's hoping!.
2014. Re-read May 2020 Mick and Lacey's story. This story is hard to get into, but hang in there and it has deep, thoughtful characters and an interesting story. There is a lot of anticipation, but not much sex. I didn't like her funeral crashing to get business. That is so sleazy. It is a major character flaw to me. Her competition with her sister, still at their age, is unhealthy, too. I loved Maeve and Bess, and Seal Mick and Jake. Maybe Lacey is salvageable, because she does volunteer to help a fund raiser, and she stops funeral hopping. She and Mick really get along well, but she's noncommittal to the extreme. Book #2 has promise, as I'd love to see Maeve and Jack get together. Read it and see what you think. ENJOY !!!!
Ms Aster is a very pleasant surprise. Here's a woman who is a new author to me who writes well! That's almost unheard of with so many authors these days. In addition to an interesting plot and very likeable characters, she obviously edited and proofread her work. The plot flows beautifully and is realistic. I hope Ms Aster is working hard on her next novel. She'll be on my buy list. This is one that will be on my re-read at some time in the future list as well.
Skip this one, but do read the second book in this series.
This book suffers from what sometimes seems to be the first in a series syndrome: the author spends too much time introducing other characters that will star in next novels and thereby distracts the reader (me) from getting invested in the main h/h. I didn't finish this book, but I loved the next which has good focus, plot, drama, fun and dialogue.
I enjoyed this tale. A sweet contemporary romance set in fascinating community. I loved watching this friendship develop between the three girls and the "sailors". The sweet and sexy romance that grew between the dedicated SEAL and professionally frustrated real estate agent delightful. I look forward to reading more about this group of friends.
Disclaimer: If you read this book because of the choice of cover or the keyword "SEAL", you might find yourself not in the kind of badass action story you expected.
Luckily for me, I read the blurb, and the story is pretty much what you can expect from that. I liked the characters who make an entertaining ensemble and the author's narrative voice which made the story a good reading experience for me.
This was a super cute story and the beginning of what appears to be a great series. Lacey is a confused 30 year old that just cannot find a job that works for her. Mick is a SEAL that doesn't want a home life, or at least he doesn't think he does. Lots of ups and downs, but it was a great read.
I cannot wait to see more of Lacey and Mick with the rest of the series.
I'm at 50% and I'm so bored. The title would have me believe it's about a bad-ass navy seal or something. No, it's about a realtor and an ex-military dude. No drama whatsoever. Or chemistry. I got this one for free from my Kindle Unlimited. Not sure if I'm going to invest the time on the others in this series.
I liked the characters but for me the story was just slow. It just needed a little extra, I felt like the book was 85% character development and 15% story.
This is not a Navy SEAL romance. Just because there happens to be a Navy SEAL in it doesn’t make it a seal romance. Storyline was trite and bordered on ridiculous. Pace was extremely slow and awkward.
Why is this cover so innocent like "The Sound of Music" but the cover on Audible showing Mick's six pack? I think US publishers are too lazy and just use photos showing men and female bodies all the time for covers. The saying don't judge a book by its cover is so true in the 21st century: all the covers are generic, photoshop images anyway. They look all the same so judging a book by its cover is like judging quality of meat by looking at a can of SPAM.
Anyway, got this with Audible Escape. I mistook this as a mystery or thriller (as the series being Special Ops) but turned out it's pure romance. There's a crime somewhere but it's 99% romance. I'm not a fan of romantic novels (except Pride and Prejudice, the book which introduced me to the first "tsundere" male character and forever changed the way I look at the world). I thought it would be hard to stick through a pure romance and intended to DNF this book but the story's so sweet I kept postponing until I've finished the whole book. I've even bought the next book (The Seal's Best Man) and may read through the whole series.
The most amazing thing about Seal the Deal is the cast of characters. You just simply can't hate any character, not even the sister whom I thought initially was a bitch but turned out to be likable (as likable as possible since she only made a cameo in the first book). She's the main character in the third book so I'm looking forward to her story as well.
Nothing much happened in this book but the sweet episodes linked altogether just make you feel happy and want to read more. I've been disappointed by many pure romance books and left the romance genre since high school but this little book revives the young girl in me. How nice and refreshing. I still hope there's a stronger storyline though but hey, it's a perfect read when you just want something sweet.
Lacey is just starting as a real estate agent and she starts crashing funerals to find business. But she’s not very good at it, sometimes she even talks them out of selling. Like she did her friend Maeve. Now she rents a room from her along with another young girl. Mick is a Navy SEAL and has been sent to Annapolis to teach. He has returned just in time for his mentors funeral. That’s where he meets Lacey. Mick swears he’ll never settle down because he plans to go back on missions with his team. Mick and Lacey become friends and start hanging out with her friends and an office mate of Mick’s. Lacey says her job comes first and doesn’t have time for relationships but the more time they spend together, the more they want each other. Until Mick finds out what she was really doing at that funeral, he says some things that hurt Lacey’s feelings. Before he can apologize, he is shipped off for a black ops mission. Can he get her to forgive him and make a life with him? Funny. Loved the characters. Easy to read and keeps you turning the page. It tells everyone’s point of view, not just the main characters. You might need some tissues while reading. The sex is sizzling.
Romance and adversity combined make this a pleasant read. With Lacey struggling in her new role as real estate agent, her lack of confidence plays to her fear that she’ll never make her parents proud of her. With an ambitious and clever sister she’s always on the back foot . Then she meets the man of her dreams. Wrong time wrong place and she knows it. Fortunately she’s made two good friends and they bolster her confidence but it’s not an easy path. Her business is struggling and she’s not pushy enough for this market. Or is she? Is Mick really the man of her dreams or should she put her business first? At least she has some good friends in Bess and Maeve and even Jack is a good lad. It takes some pretty uncomfortable occurrences before they all start to understand what’s best for the future. Plenty of challenges and yes very enjoyable. Loved the wedding that they all attend in the end!
The story had so much potential. But it was too slow, too shallow. Almost no plot, no action at all, no dramas. Even the characters were too shallow. It lacked nuance. (Except for Mrs B, loved that old lady). The little action we got was solved too quickly and no one got scared which made no sense. Half the book was basically everyone begging Lacey to sleep with Mick, I don't call that a romance. But I really liked the relationship development of Lacey and her sister. As for the SEAL part, I feel like the writer didn't research about the seals enough, nor their mindset/mentality. Mick's superior tells him that he had issues and that's why he got stationed here, but he looked fine to me all along so I never understood that part of the story. Again, shallow, and it's a shame. The whole story could've been great, if only it was elaborated. I almost put 2 stars but I thought it was too harsh, it's an easy read, not a bad read. I'm still going to try book 2 though
I've read this book a few times, and keep coming back. It's an easy read with the MCs Mick and Lacey having great chemistry and an interesting meet-cute ( she's a realtor crashing funerals in an attempt to drum up business - but she's so nice that she often convinces people NOT to sell straight away, thus doing herself out of business).
Mick is a Navy SEAL who doesn't think his lifestyle is compatible with a serious relationship but is instantly attracted to sweet Lacey. They decide to just be friends, but their chemistry is great.
Lacey rents her room in a house with her best friend and another border. The three women are as close as sisters, and each secondary character is interesting and adds plenty to the storyline.
This has a stand-alone HEA, however, the rest of the series follows each of the characters and supplies their individual romances.
Sweet contemporary military romance, currently free on Amazon.
This was sweet. A nice, quick-paced read. There isn’t anything heavy here, no action, suspense, or mystery, no other overarching plot, just the romance. I liked the characters, though Lacey seemed a little down on herself, which I didn’t like. Mick was hot and honorable. But there just wasn’t anything very special or memorable about them. The sex scenes were kinda hot but not smoking. So just 3 stars from me, average. At least it is well edited. Only 3 errors found!
I have way more to say when I love or hate something.
3rd person past tense from Lacey and Mick.
Contains some graphic sex scenes, but not until halfway through.
352 pages.
Currently free on Amazon. Book 5 and Book 7 (a novella) are free. The others in the series are about $2.99 each.

I received this free e-book from Amazon and I am voluntarily writing a review. Lacey is new to Annapolis, Maryland and trying to get her struggling realtor career off the ground. She has taken a sabbatical from men and relationships until her career can be viewed as a success. Mick is a Navy Seal officer trying to get his career back on track after telling his commanding officer what he thought of him after leaving him and his team while taking enemy fire. Now his wrists are being slapped and instead of being with his team he has been assigned to academia for two years at the Naval Academy. This book is about the many relationships that affect out lives and how family is not always about blood but born of friendships.
‘SEAL the Deal’ was funny. The plot was filled with a sweet real estate agent with low self-esteem, attending funerals for contact information, meeting a SEAL on hiatus, hilarity, some quirky roommates, living in the shadows of an adopted sister, being helped by a matchmaker, being burglarized, going home for Thanksgiving, hearing a sister’s news, changing life goals, falling for the SEAL, uncovering the truth, a contrite confession, oh no…a mission blackout, an epiphany, a baby’s birth, a destination wedding, and love. Lacey and Mick, the protagonists, worked hard to achieve their HEA. Also, the author’s vivid descriptions created a lively tone. Overall, I liked the entertaining narrative.
Estate agent Lacey crashes funerals to find new clients. That way her path crosses with SEAL Mick.
What sounds like a bad agency model decision turns out to be a good way for Lacey to support people even if not always her decisions cash out.
Mick wants nothing more than to be back in active duty as a SEAL. But in the end that might not be as important to him anymore than it was before he met Lacey.
I love the background story, the side characters, the main characters. Many surprising aspects and details, that have me hooked to the series and wait for the next couple to happen.
This is a cute book. Lacey Owens is a struggling real estate agent. She meets potential clients at funerals. I was turned off by this at first but it turns out that she ends up helping most of her clients instead of taking advantage of them. Mick Riley is a SEAL who pissed off his commanding officer and got assigned to teach classes at the Naval Academy. He meets Lacey at the funeral for his mentor. There are a whole lot of secondary characters introduced--probably to set up the next books in the series. I got this book on sale at Amazon and it was definitely and entertaining read.
Lacey has had many careers and never been able to get her parents approval. Her and her sister are tight, but her sister is also very put together when it came to her career and her money. But when lacey decided to be a realtor the only way she could think of getting her name out there was by ambushing funerals. A funeral where she met this hard sinful gorgeous man named mick. Over the months they went from just thinking of each other to friends to being together for today. But both was afraid of forever
Other reviewers really missed the mark here. Yes, she was using unethical business practices. It's right there in the description and is one of the tension builders. Long before the end, she stopped doing that. The mystery-suspense had an obvious culprit. Why are book characters always so obtuse about the obvious bad guy? Anyway, I love Lacey, Mick, Maeve, Bess, game nights, back porches, and hot men in uniform. Seeing those muscled heroes grow soft and mushy with love is the best.
Struggling real estate agent Lacey has a collision with a hot guy at a funeral she crashed for potential business leads. Hot guy turns out to be a Navy SEAL, and they develop a friendship with some bonus sexual tension, as well as her soft heart leading her to tell the widow not to sell and helping her with volunteering. Great cast of side characters, who will hopefully be future books, and some good spicy scenes. Also deals a bit with struggles of military relationships.
Sign me up.... Nothing like a military romance. Great storyline. Mick has two year to teach and recover from his wounds before he can be put back in his order for active duty, during those two years her meets struggling real estate agent Lacey and they decide to try to be "just friends" but that back fires when Lacey's sister gets engaged and Lacey wants more from Mick.
This was a lighthearted fun and sexy romance to read. I liked that the heroine wasn't glossy perfect. It was good to have a detail of Lacey's interaction with her friends and not just her love interest Mick. It made her a more 3D character and more relatable. I really enjoyed Kate Water's writing. The interactions of the various relationships between the characters felt realistic and detailed. I was drawn into the story and I'm looking forward to see where this series goes.
