Fran Veal fell in love with books and stories as a child. In grade school she wrote and designed her own comic book, which she hand-drew and distributed to her friends. She graduated to writing fiction stories in Junior High (without pictures, for which her audience was grateful), and continued writing on into her adult years.

"There is nothing like escaping into a book for a while, where for those stolen moments you can be anyone...do anything."

Veal currently resides in Middle Tennessee with her husband, teen daughter, and one extremely snarky cat.

The book had me at Atlantis, where it opened up at, and I had to see where the story led. Of course some of the story did take a couple of little trips through Valeria. The storyline is quite ingenious with some great suspense elements. With the ending that's part of this book I have to read the next book, it's a real cliff hanger.

I beta read this book.

Hannah wakes up from a coma and finds herself back where the first novel in the series, Finding My Escape, set off. Her parents have been murdered in their home and the police believe the intruder was a common burglar. Hannah knows better: her parents guarded a secret, thousands of years old, and the enemy, desperate enough to kill, is closing in.

Hannah’s best friend Matt, who she fell in love with as Josh in the dream world she visited in the first book, turns out to be her personal bodyguard in this world. Being her bodyguard also means any romance is out of the question and Hannah is smarting from all the secrets her own family and friends have been keeping from her. And now it is too late to find the truth, as the only two who knew what the secret was, are both dead. Things are becoming more complicated as Hannah cannot trust what is real and what is only happening in the dream world of Valeria…

The second book in the series is fast moving and as compelling to read as the first. Some of the mystery element from the first book is gone and there are bits that are pushing the limit for what is believable, but the reader still ends up with a very good sequel; the plot is well crafted and the style is spot on.
As the book ends on the edge of that proverbial cliff I will have to wait for the third book to find out what is really going on in Hannah’s life as I, the reader, am kept equally confused as the main character about what is real and what is nothing more than a dream.

Fran Veal’s excellent sequel to Finding My Escape expands exponentially an already compelling plotline when she reveals in the first chapter the background story that led to the murder of Hannah’s parents. Hannah and Matt are thrown together as they flee the killer who’s hot on her trail while seeking the answers to questions about her past and future.
In addition, revelations about Matt’s past and his role in her life add to the already conflicting emotions Hannah has about their relationship, creating an element of forbidden love that rekindles the sexual tension from the first book. We also see an expanding milieu of characters, some new and some who are developing in greater scope from their introductions in the first book. I was particularly happy to see Hannah’s aunt given a bigger part in the play.
The only downside of the book for me is the shifting perspective. Hannah is presented in first person, while all the other characters – and there are plenty – have a third person POV. Ms. Veal is continuing the format she followed in the first book, but with the number of characters in this one, the constant shifting becomes incongruent.
Nevertheless, this was a fine read. Another twist at the end left me extremely frustrated the third book has yet to be published. I gave Finding My Way Back five stars, and I can’t wait for the next offering from this author. Great job, Fran Veal!

'Finding My Way Back' is the second book in a trilogy about a teenage girl who begins to find out her life isn't as normal as she thinks, after her parents are murdered and she begins to have some strange dreams.

The first book was completely engrossing and this one was even better! Because of what happened in the first book it was pretty hard to tell what was going to happen next - It felt like almost anything could happen - so there were a few good surprises in the plot. The chemistry between the two main characters is amazing! I don't always enjoy romance but these characters are so well written it's hard not to want them to get together. There are a few typical YA genre tropes in the book but these are balanced so well with the unique story and characters that they didn't bother me at all. I actually think the balance is perfect and these books should attract YA fans in their droves!

Overall this is an excellent continuation of a unique and well written paranormal mystery/romance. I look forward to the final book. Highly recommended to fans of PNR and young adult novels.

Hannah's story continues and what you thought was 'really' happening, just gets crazier! Valeria is a place to escape, dream and even filled with some darkness. The story grows more exciting as you go along and Matt's character grew to be one of my favorite. He and Hannah have quite the adventure and so many surprises await the reader. This does end in a cliffhanger though!!! Can't WAIT for the next in the series!
