Chasca Leon grew up in foster care and never spent a lot of time making friends. There were things about her people just wouldn’t understand. Thing’s even she didn’t understand. She lived a very quite life, going to work, and going home, never intentionally seeking adventure. This is, until she was kidnapped. Chasca cannot comprehend why someone would kidnap her and she only discovers why once she is rescued by two gorgeous militant men. While under their protection she learns that she is not human and that the strange things that have been occurring all her life were all because she is of the Nephilim bloodline.
Fate has never been a thing Chasca has concerned herself with but once she learns that she is part of an ancient prophecy she understand that she is truly in danger. Her protectors do everything they can to keep her out of harm’s way but there’s only so much that can be done when your ward is a headstrong mouthy woman. Recommended for those 18 and older.
"One cannot escape their fate, but their path may be altered, potentially resulting in a different outcome. Some consider it divine intervention, or a miracle. Others consider it to be coincidence or happenstance. In some cases both are true, but there are always exceptions. Mere seconds can prove to be crucial components when the result of one’s fate is hanging in the balance. Often times a minute amount of influence is all it takes. Planting a seed of doubt or inspiring hope when all seems to be lost..."
I find it a little ironic that as a writer I can't seem to think of anything interesting to say about myself... Well, considering this isn't a work of fiction I might as well state the facts. My name is A.C. Heller. I live in the overly sunny state of Arizona. I adore my family. I grew up in New Jersey. I hate mushrooms and I only eat the edges of pop tarts because the middle is just too much of a good thing... um... Oh yeah! I'm also an author now. So I have that going for me. I've written and published a few books so far and I am currently working on more.
Considering this book is written in first person from a females perspective I originally thought I wasn't going to like but boy was I wrong! I loved it! The action kept me hooked and Chasca is so damn loveable you can't not like her. Seriously people, give this a shot. You won't regret it!
BAM! Hooked since the beginning. Chasca is kidnapped. Oh no!
So i read the series out of order. I started reading Will first because it was free. And now, A.C. Heller was kind enough to send the other two books free so I can review them. \
So Chasca was a loner before. Didn't really know anybody. I wonder why. She's frickan hot. (or at least assuming she looks like the girl on the cover) But here's one thing I noticed. She's not the social kind of girl, because she doesn't have any friends. But when she is taken in by The Order, she is very outgoing and becomes friends like immediately with Aiden and Angelo and maybe kinda sorta Takeo. Maybe it's because they are supposedly good looking? So Chasca is many things, personality-wise. She can be depressed and gloomy, she can be lively and energetic, crazy and spunky, flirty and sexy. She's all over the place. But her basic attitude towards her powers and her need to protect the others remains constant. So I have to say, that Chasca is a static character.
Now Takeo, Aiden, and Angelo. They are really similar in character. They differ in small aspects only. SO Takeo, he's the strongest and biggest of the three. Handsome and toned like the rest. But he is a corrupt Nephilim or something? I don't remember. But he has the power of dark, I think. He doesn't really use his powers. Takeo is the gentle giant. Aiden is muscular and toned and handsome. He's an Elioud with the ability to control wind. That's a cool power. Better than darkness or getting really really pissed off. Aiden is the nice guy out of the three, and he is the kind of guy who would become your best friend. That's about it. Angelo. Again, he's toned, muscular, and hot. Notice a trend here? But oh well, it's not something to be super picky about. The girls are all hot too. Angelo is the asshole kind of guy with a tattoo. Definite bad boy material. His power is that he can get really really pissed off, and he has a katana, or a raijin. I don't remember. But regardless, you don't want to mess with a ticked off guy with a sword.
The plotline is very engaging and always interesting. When it isn't packed with action, it's got drama, and when it doesn't have drama, it's got romance. There is seriously nothing boring about the book.
One trend I notice in A.C. Heller's writing is that she is a big believer in true love at first sight. And there's nothing wrong with that. Sure, it's not realistic, but it's fiction! And i am a sucker for that stuff too. :)
I think Heller should make me a character, give me a cool superpower, and have me fall in love with a gorgeous girl. yup yup.
Here is Heller's folly, though. Spelling and grammar. In all three books of the series, I find the same recurring mistakes. Because of that, I would rate this book two, maybe one star. But, the errors have already been pointed out to Heller, and she is working hard on a new edition with those problems fixed. So therefore I am not holding those errors against her since they will be fixed.
But even though she could improve on spelling and grammar, I can tell she has mastered character building and how to write an exciting novel. Her writing is beautiful. But one thing I did notice, is that unlike other authors, she doesn't spend much focus on describing scenery. She mostly focuses on describing the actions of other people and thoughts. It's not bad, it's just something different and something I'm not used to. It left more to the imagination on the setting.
But the reason why this isn't five stars is because of the tone of the book. It lacks commas and needs more separation in paragraphs. By adding a comma where it should belong, it makes a little pause or a brief distinction between ideas in the same sentence without making it seem like the person is talking without stopping for a breath.
Now the ending. I love how it ends with Damiano's little journal entries with his quotable thoughts and philosophical pondering. It's a nice way to close the book.
So Overall, despite all the spelling and grammar errors, this is a solid 4 star book. Congratulations A.C. Heller, you've written yourself a damn good book. FOUR STARS!!!
I found this book while just looking around, I liked the blurb but the reviews were mixed, since it was on kindle unlimited I decide to give it a go and I'm so glad I did. It's an interesting read, twenty-five year old Chasca Leon is kidnapped one night, she's no idea why since she's no family and no money then she's rescued by two incredibly hot men Aiden and Takeo, she's put under their protection and while there she discovers who she's not human she's actually the last of her line, the Nephilim bloodline and she's being hunted. I really enjoyed this read, it completely held my attention and I read it in one sitting and even though Chasca makes a couple of stupid decisions I continued on which shows just how committed I was. I'm now going to check out 'Chance'
Chas has no parents and is on her own when she is abducted, Two men save her and thus begins her fate. Aiden and Takeo are her saviors and through them she finds out some things about her self that are truly extraordinary. I really enjoyed this novel because it is a lot more than just a tale of romance. Interesting story line that was well written, great job!
This book was great! I'm really looking forward to the next one. A.C. Heller's writing style sort of reminded me of Kristen Ashley. And that's a good thing. I was able to really connect with her characters.
I really enjoyed this book! I connected with Chasca from the very first chapter. She is intelligent and fiesty! This book has intrigue, action, and romance....can't wait to read the next book!
I really liked this book. It was shorter than I would have liked but not a bad read. I'm very much looking forward to the next three books A.C. Heller said were coming.
Review A.C. Heller "Fate" from the sacrifice series
This book starts off head on! We meet Chas who's had a hard life being orphaned at a very young age and beging brought up in foster care. Well Chas has just been abducted! And knowing not why of by whom. We meet this total (mysterious, hot) stranger who's there's to save Chas from her abductor " takeo" Actually they are two, but Takeo is the mysterious hot stranger you just get this wow feeling of.
It doesn't even take half a chapter before I'm hooked on this book! This whole inner dialog Chas has is hilarious, that girl got some humor!
Anyways! after being saved, she is brought back into safety with the brothers, in some unknown facility. It's here she learns that she is from this divine bloodline and thats when this compelling story begins!
This book is the start of a great story filled with good vs. evil, love and danger. It's a story that's been thought of and thought throw ( or so that's the feeling you get)
Can't wait to read more about Chas and Takeo ( and the others of course ) in the next installment !!
"The prophecy speaks of a daughter born among humans, unaware of her b irth right. Just like the Angels that fell from heaven, she was damned by her own blood to be a victim of her own abilities. Her hair as gold as the dawn, eyes like morning dew, she is grace in its purest form. In her life she will truly love only one, taking the dark from his soul; she will allow it to consume her. Sacrificing herself, her heart, and her soul. The warrior..."
4.8 stars - sorry for being so precise, but it felt necessary, and since no book can be perfect...especially necessary.
So, to begin with...Chasca—she was a truly badass character, by the way! Pretty, but that did nothing to awaken the bitchy trait that populates some barely good-looking girls. No wonder she was able to catch the eye of three blessed-gorgeous guys—if I could change genders, I would totally hit on you, Chas ;). And on a different note, I did also love Chasca's thoughts, another valuable thing of sorts; by means of expressing herself, our fellow protagonist commonly used the words 'sh*t' and 'f*ck', which was quite, well, entertaining. Such character is rare these days, though you see it...what...every five days? No, that doesn't make sense. But Chas is awesome, and she rocked all the way through.
Now concerning the plot...it wasn't too bad. No, it wasn't bad at all. I'd say it was a surface one; no flashbacks, no distinct connections to the past, or any genuine mystery, although it wasn't completely devoid of this. But anyway, the other stuff really shouldn't necessarily be viewed as a bad thing—fantasy worlds are always complicated and they introduce so many things, that, well...things can potentially get really messy. Fate left confusion out of the package.
Zooming out for the time being, one thing I admired about this book was the mystery that hung about the prologue and the epilogue. The mystery component was also surface, but not predictable, and when you start reading, you kinda forget about the presence in the prologue. And if you do select Fate as your next read, you'll see it like I say.
Imagine being, orphaned at a young age and being raised in foster homes your entire life. You have no knowledge of your family, nor do you have any knowledge of heritage you might have. Such is how Chasca Leon’s began her life.
After Chasca leaves home, she finds a job and lives a relatively mundane life until one fateful when on her way home she gets kidnapped. But as “FATE” would have it, her two rescuers are the ones who are going to help Chasca to discover her heritage and the “hidden” powers she possesses. She discovers who she can trust, who she can fall in love with, and the prophecy in which she plays an intricate part.
“FATE” is a wondrous mix of romance, action, adventure with a touch of the paranormal. Once I started reading it, the book became a page turner which I couldn’t put down. You must read this book in one sitting, or else you’ll probably lose the emotions which have built up inside your mind and the desire of what’s going to happen next.
If I can find the time, I’m going to download / read / review the other two books in this series.
Robin Leigh Morgan is the author of “I Kissed a Ghost,” a MG/YA Paranormal romance novel.
Happed to stumble upon the first novel just by chance, and I'm so stoked I did. Literally spent an entire day reading the series (all of which fucking owned), but Takeo and Chasca were hands down my favorite pair to read about. A.C. Heller wrote an epicly original and thoroughly entertaining series and had definitely become an author to look out for future reads. I highly recommend all four novels within the series!!
I purchased Fate back in July of 2014 but never got to it. I went scouring through it trying to find something that could grab my attention for more than 15 minutes or even make it past the 3rd chapter. Fate was successful on both counts and I was able to make it to the end of the story within a week.
Chasca is a rather interesting character, I couldn’t tell if she was the strong independent type or the damsel in destress type, she kind of flipped back and forth. At least she fights back when it counts. She clearly needs to work on her timing because she just keeps walking into trouble. Then there is Takeo, I get he is supposed to be the hero in all of this but the way he was written made it seem like he was a secondary character with now real substance, which was down right sad.
While reading Fate I discovered a new pet peeve, and I have to admit this one really bugged me and almost ruined the story for me. I decided to share the paragraph instead of a quote to help me explain the problem with it and that it adds to my dislike of stories told in the first person.
Once I finish speaking, I place a soft kiss on his cheek. Turning around, I gently slide off the bed, pick up the bowl, and head out of his room, not looking back. Little did I know, had I looked back, I would have seen Takeo’s eyes were open. And I would have seen what was in them.
Now how would Chasca know that when she never looked back? This is something you read in a story told by a third person not a first person story and it sort of ruins the continuity and credibility of the story.
Overall, the story wasn’t awful it was just flat and a bit confused. The author did take the time to make sure it was well edited which was awesome. I am going to give Fate three stars because the story line it self was pretty imaginative and I really like that, but it does need the some of the primary characters brought more to the forefront and decision needs to be made on whether this is a first person or third person story.
This review posting contains the body of the review, which is only a portion of the original review which was originally posted here https://laurasbookbinge.wordpress.com...
A 0.5-star rating isn’t possible here, so I’ve rounded it up. I do realize this was published in 2013, so perhaps standards and expectations were different at the time. That said, this book is the cliché of all clichés. It has everything: a small, petite female lead who considers herself average-looking despite having the typical blonde hair and light eyes. Naturally, she’s one of a kind, and everyone seems to worship the ground she walks on—though she remains completely oblivious to this.
She gets kidnapped, shows zero sense of self-preservation, and is taken to some base where she’s told of a mysterious prophecy. Suddenly, she’s willing to live among her captors. Within a day or two, she’s flirting with both of them. Then more male characters are introduced—each one inexplicably infatuated with her—and she flirts with them too. And of course, they’re all described as the most handsome men to ever exist.
Somehow, nearly all the characters in this book are male—aside from one other female, an older woman who works for “the boys” and, of course, instantly adores the protagonist. Naturally.
Anyway, I think the half-star is more for me than the book. I figured the time I spent actually finishing it deserved something. Don’t get me wrong—I thoroughly enjoyed myself. It was ridiculous, terribly written, and over-the-top, but undeniably entertaining.
Chasca Leon was orphaned at a young age, never knowing her parents or her heritage. She was raised in foster care, grew up, and finally found a job. She is kidnapped one night as she leaves work and is rescued by two handsome men. She is taken to their base where she learns that she is Nephilim, one of those born of fallen angles. She finds she has abilities and struggles to learn to control them. However she is headstrong and doesn't like being pulled around by an ancient prophesy. However fate has other planes.
A. C. Heller has written an intriguing story of action, adventure, romance, with the paranormal thrown in for good measure. It deals with the age old paradox between fate and choice. Chasca and her new friends are characters that the audience could come to care about. A. C. uses a first person writing style and her handling of it seems to get in the way of her story telling.
That said, it is overall, an entertaining story and well worth reading
Okay so I went back and read this book after I had already read the second one. It was better than the second one. But I find it lacking in depth still. The author is on the right track, it just needs a little bit more. Again they fell in love pretty fast with almost no courtship. I understand that they were meant to be but you still need to get to know someone. That was my biggest issue. Other than that the characters had some well rounded attributes to them but they still seemed too shallow.
I had a little trouble reading this book, but overall it was an ok read. It was good enough to finish and I would suggest this book to people who like romance stories that have angels and demons. The book was decently written, but nothing was really memorable about the characters or story.
It was a quick read and I was thankful for that. I don't think I could have lasted through the whole book if it was more than 200 pages. I liked the beginning but right after she was saved..everything was developing TOO fast..next thing you know, everyone falls for her left and right..
