My boss gave me a gift cert for Barnes and Noble one Christmas and this is the book that I bought. It's not bad, but I don't use it to the extent that I thought I would.

I tried the recipe for Salsa Fish with mozzarella cheese. We decided salsa did not go with fish but we were amazed at how good the cheese was on the fish. I've since fixed baked fish with mozzarella cheese many times since then. The Cauliflower Tomato medley was pretty good, along with the Garlic Oregano Zucchini.

The recipes are simple. Nothing gourmet here, nothing too exciting. Just basic food.

The virtues of this book is that all the recipes are relatively easy, many of them being made of pre-made components. They are also middle of the road American, so guaranteed to please or at least not offend most palates. These are also its faults, there is mostly little creativity, nothing is elevated, no surprises here.

I made the smashed red potatoes, which were really quick to make and were delicious. They also were more healthy because you used olive oil rather than milk and butter, and they tasted super creamy. You would never know the difference.

I also made a sweet potato topping that had pumpkin pie spice in it. Really, really. good. I made it with Creamy Chicken & Cranberry-Pecan Wild Rice, a recipe I had, from another place: http://www.kraftfoods.com/kf/recipes/... and the 2 were so good together, I would have it for Thanksgiving dinner in a heartbeat! Yum. I modified the sweet potato recipe by sprinkling some of the extra toasted pecans on top, and I would recommend the addition.

There are a few flavor combos that I'm a little wary of: strawberry bannana omeletes? pear, walnut, and sausage quiche? (actually the more I think of that second one, the more intriguing it sounds)

The pictures are great, and there is a picture for every recipe.

I want to try a few more recipes from this before I turn it back in, and it's one that I would like to buy. I like the down home, stick to your ribs recipes, and they really are as quick to make as the title makes you believe. It's a thick cookbook, and one that would be worth the money...I think I'm going to buy it!

Excellent book! Full-color photos every page! Truly simple and delicious! Here's a sampling of recipes in the 10-, 20-, and 30-minute categories.

10-minutes: Broccoli Cranberry Slaw "I need just four items to toss together this crunchy coleslaw that gets a sweet twist from dried cranberries. It's lightly coated with convenient prepared dressing." -Marie Siciliano of Westerly, RI

20-minutes: Spinach Turkey Burgers "If you're looking for a change-of-pace burger, try these easy sandwiches. Instead of beef, the patties are made with ground turkey, spinach and stuffing mix for a tasty twist on the usual grilled fare." -C. A. Hedges of Clarence Center, NY

30-minutes: Spicy Scrambled Egg Sandwiches "These breakfast sandwiches are packed with veggies, good taste [I can vouch for that:] and easy-to-swallow nutrition!" -Helen Vail of Glenside, PA

Since I have an insatiable sweet tooth, thought I'd throw in a dessert teaser, too. Six ingredients and ten minutes! In the words of Rachel Ray, yum-o!

10-minutes-dessert: Poppy Seed Lemon Pie "Your family will love this tangy finale to dinner...and never guess how simple it is to prepare!" -Taste of Home Test Kitchen

Meh. Most of these are very meat-oriented (except desserts- of course) and they don't look that simple. Some recipes take 30 minutes when they probably shouldn't (hot chocolate?) while some say 10 minutes, but it's that old trick where they assume you already have everything chopped up, washed, marinated, etc. I'm just not that impressed, but I'll try out a few and see if it changes my mind.

Weeknight life saver, this book has brought us to the table as a family to enjoy easy, yet delicious recipes that I can plan on the weekend and stretch out through the week. Time saving and simple to follow, it will suit amateur chefs to elite foodies whom wish to shave some time off of the dinner time rush. Very much recommended.

Love, love, LOVE the potato soup in page 133, and the skillet beef and potatoes on page 39. Not many more I really love that I've tried yet which was surprising but I'm a picky water. Quality of the cookbook was great!

I scanned this cookbook mainly in memory of my mother who enjoyed the magazine. I didn't find anything I wanted to try, though it might work for those seeking quick, comfort-style food to feed a family.
