Gavin Mara is a fox shifter passing through Ridgeville, just stopping to visit his sister. Then he’s traveling to Chicago to begin his job as Director of Communications for the Council. It’s supposed to be a small vacation before the stress begins. Alistair McCain—ex-leader of Freedom—is now dead, and the shifter world is in turmoil. While the Council sorts things out, it’s Gavin’s job to keep everyone electronically connected.
And he’ll get right onto that just as soon as he claims his curvy lioness, Gina.
I really like reading this series. I like Gina and I like Gavin what and I liked this book it was just too short. Gavin Mara is a fox shifter passing through Ridgeville, just stopping to visit his sister Elise. Gavin wakes up and smells that is mate is near Gina is a lioness having lunch with her friends when Gavin comes into the dinner. Although this book was short it was well written and to the point. I wanted more I wanted to learn more about Gina's past I mean I knew she had an ex that tried to run Elise out of town because he was a member of Freedom, but overall the book was ok.
This is a very short story that I got free from ARe (http://www.allromanceebooks.com/index...). It was a fairly good little story about Gina meeting her mate. I have only read the first in the series and then this, but it is more than obvious that all the books are closely connected as there was a few events referred to that I wasn't aware of, so now gonna have to get all the others that I've missed.
Glad it was free because it was pretty disappointing
I'm done with this series now. I would rate this book lower, but since it was a offered as a freebie I'm being a bit more generous. This book was 26 pages and nothing seemed to happen. Sniff. Mate. Sex. The end. I just found it to be boring and unsatisfying.
Yummy little smexy read. Way too short but oh so hot!! Gavin and Gina are an awesome pairing. I would have loved more story here but it was a freebie. I did wonder why it had not happened sooner, didn't they get near each other when Maya had the babies? Never bumped into each other on all his visits to his sister? Whatever, they met up now.
Delicious chunk of steam takes up most of the book. Plenty of yummy detail to make your panties drop!
I definitely want to read more from this author. This was so rushed though, I met you and 5 minutes later I'm marking you for life. I like a build up and some romance.which this was missing, but was a hot little read!
Generally good tale but seemed like half was claiming session. Fox Gavin finds his mate in lioness Gina. She is trying to adjust to life after her ex is revealed as a Freedom member. To mate the brother of one of Freedom's victims is a bit much. But fate won't be denied.
This is a short which is why it only got 4 stars instead of 5. Gavin and Gina's story is a quick fun read. Perfect for lunch time reading. Good humor which is one reason I enjoy Celia Kyle's books so much.
This is only for people who are already reading the series, it'd be pointless if you didn't already know the characters. A 15-minute read where Gavin, in town to visit his sister Elise, sniffs his mate - Gina - who sniffs him back, and quick agreement-wham-bam-claimed-done.
All the books in this series read pretty quickly, but this one is short even compared to the rest of them. However, just like all the rest, it is filled with humor, hot sex, insta-love, and camaraderie. It's a fun series, and I love all the books in it.
A quick read, adding depth to a fun series. This novella is easily read in less than an hour. It's a quick detour in the main series, bringing two characters together, broadening the possible setting of future books, but fun to read anyway.
While I'm enjoying the Mayaisms of the series and the series in general, this on is just lacking an entire plot. I mean they do meet and hook up, but that's it.
Can’t have a Ridgeville read without a few words of wisdom from the Prima Maya. No matter how many times she goes off on a tangent she always entertains.
Now shifter mates can't stay away from each other for long once they catch their scent. Something Gavin can attest to. He was all but asleep above the dinner but the moment he caught his mate’s scent through a vent he almost went postal with getting down the stairs to her, whoever she was that is. Good job it goes both ways when he's face to face with Gina. One handshake, skin on skin, and she is on fire for him too. Everyone else forgotten they can't get out of there fast enough. The only thing on their minds is mine, mate, mark. Claiming each other is all they – along with their beasts – can think of. It’s always hot and heavy with shifters, as they just trust the instinct to be right. Figuring out details of where to go from there can come later.
I’d say this could be read as standalone as is only meant to be a quick short read within the series. A few characters mentioned you might not know but doesn't make you feel lost as it only really focuses on them. Kind of just setting the scene with them rather than delving into much of a story but fun all the same though.
Ok so when I read this story in 2014 I never rated the books. This means that I didn't care about the story one way or another. The stories did not make me want to throw my e-reader device across the room for reasons too annoying to name. The stories also did not leave me with an overwhelming desire to start all over again. The only real reason I am re-reading the series is because I wanted something to read and the series is on my amazon recommendation lists and I found that I own it and croup don't really remember what it was about. (I know, I know not very steller of a review)
With that said now to the reason I am writing review on a story I barely remember. Maybe because I was reading the summary and went "Gavin, that's Elise's brother the fox and then Gina? Huh, well ok. Maybe yucky births and being roared at and getting ordained on a WiFi connection at a rest stop can mess with your nose. Because HELLO Gina was with Carly, Maddy, Maya when they went to pick up Elisa!
"While they, in turn, glared at Maya (lioness), Maddy (another lioness and bad ass), Carly (a rabbit, go figure), Gina (look, more lions) and herself (fox-ish) as if they were the devils incarnate."Fierce in Fur
Now again, I either did not catch this during my first read or they explained it. Either way, ok, have re-read it yet. BUT, if you wish to complain about how crappy a book in the middle of series is, read the freakin' series! AND don't try to quote something unless you got it right.
I bloody love this series, and I mean really love this series, but I just can't give this 5 stars. In fact this is 2.5 that I upgraded to 3.
I read it immediately after finishing Volume 2 of The Ridgeville Pack, so was still on a high from the awesomeness of it. This was a disappointment. Was good to see Gina find her mate, but TBH that was about it. It was basically a sex scene, and a wham bam one at that. Aside from that there wasn't really any story.
To me it felt as if the writer wanted to get Gavin & Gina together, possibly for future storylines, I don't know, and cobbled this together to get the deed done. With this series so far the writer has already demonstrated how good she is, so this was a real disappointment. It just needed more story.
Of course I will continue reading this series, because just in case you don't know, I bloody love this series. Bottomline we all have an off day, and these few pages are the off day in the series.
Like A Fox is a very short story, less than thirty pages. I read it in about half an hour. And as with most short stories, things happen fast. If you've read this series, you've met Gina and Gavin. Gina has been in several of the other books , a longtime member of the Pride. Gavin's sister recently mated with a member of the Ridgeville Pride. (He was also the one to get ordained on the internet to marry Alex and Maya at a rest area before their twins were born). Gavin is making one last visit with his sister, before moving to Chicago and starting his new job, when the scent of his mate wakes him from a sound sleep. When he tracks down that lovely scent he find the even lovelier lioness that is destined to be his.
Like A Fox is a short story, a literal ‘quickie’ which finds Gavin, Elise’s brother, finding his mate in Gina, a lioness who has suffered her own pain. Jenner, her ex-boyfriend, was a trusted member of the pride – until his true colours showed as a vicious member of Freedom. Humiliated by his betrayal, Gina has been taking ‘backbone’ lessons from Maya and is now a part of the close knit group of “crazy ass women” in the Ridgeville pride. Only 27 pages, this could have easily been book 6.5, but still, it gives a HEA to Gina, who certainly deserves it after what she has been though.
“Backbones are like assholes. Everyone’s got one. You just have to find yours. The backbone, not the asshole. I’m assuming you know where your asshole is. If not, we have bigger problems.”
With all of the drama that seems to come with shifter/mate stories, sometimes it is nice to read a straighforward story where the guy and gal meet and jump straight to claiming without a big bad. It's a pleasant change, even though the story itself was really an unnecessary addition to the series. When I first opened the ebook and saw it was only 25 pages, I was very thankful I didn't pay anything for it. I think it would be highway robbery to charge something for that short of a story... but I digress.
The story was decent, and my only complaint was the fact that Maya and her offspring still had to be involved in this super short novella. Can't we have one book without her... seriously?! Either way, I don't feel the need to continue with the series after this.
3.75 stars, rounding up to 4 because I love shifters :-)
I feel like I've read every Celia Kyle book, even those dumb yeti ones. This one was short and hot! but I'm not really sure I needed Gavin and Gina's story. I feel like this could have been #6.5 or something, rather than #7.
I loved seeing the other characters of course but sometimes I think Ms. Kyle tries a little too hard to be hip and funny... it gets to be eyerolling over the top at times.
I will say, as long as this series continues, I'll keep reading, so she's obviously doing something right, right?
