In the claustrophobic heart of darkness, the eerie tick-tock from unseen shadows is the lone harbinger of a terrifying threat. Paralyzed by fear and an assailant's potent drug, he is robbed of defenses, except for the chilling symphony of sounds that narrate his impending doom. The last grain of sand plummets down an hourglass just as the metronomic ticking halts, leaving him in the grip of a consuming silence. Enter Willow a psychologist steeped in cult practices, taking a pause from her university role to join the FBI at the request of Agent Paxton Holt. Their shared attraction is palpable but unexplored, a silent current beneath a sea of professional respect. Together, they're tasked to outsmart the country's most elusive criminals, chasing shadows through the murkiest depths of the human psyche. An unsettling murder breathes life into a long-stilled investigation. Is it the return of a serial murderer known as the Hourglass Killer, or the rise of an ominous imitator? Willow and Holt find themselves on a treacherous journey into the mind of a psychopath, where trust is as fragile as a strand of spider's silk. Each tick of the clock dials up the suspense, sand grains slipping away in a race against an enemy who toys with the delicate balance between life and death. Can they outwit a killer who holds the shears of fate? Riddled with suspense that will make your heart pound, this electrifying page-turner is a must-read for fans of Mary Stone, Lisa Regan, Elle Gray, and AJ Rivers. Prepare to lose yourself in a shadowy world where time is the deadliest weapon.

Worst editing - read on KU

This has an usual motive for murder. I do like that aspect of it. I even like the characters but not necessarily their relationships.

However, this book had the worst editing of any book I can recall reading in a certain way. The author seems to not make many grammatical errors. But there are just so many formatting and careless errors. In one place the letters "tood" from the word "stood" are moved into the sentence before it. Then there is just the s in the next sentence without making sense. There are missing words throughout. Lots of extra spaces - especially just as quotation marks. All the errors would have been caught by free software. I think it is insulting when authors can't spend 2 hours using Grammarly to make their books more readable.

This author also is pretty clueless about procedure and terminology. He or she calls the unmarked FBI car a cruiser, for example.

I almost wonder if this was written by AI.

The next book is better in almost every way and the excess errors aren't there.

Thoughtful interesting thriller

I liked the fact that Willow Grace really tried to judge herself and her feelings for Agent Holt. She questioned her self about her career change as well her ability to be a good partner. I enjoyed the book and have enjoyed the series very much.

Continuity

Another great read in this series. I really appreciate the way the characters continue to develop while maintaining a continuity of the story line.

I have to rate this a 3.8. It was good and I like the characters, but it was a little cheesy toward the end. I’ll probably read the next book in the series at some point though.
