Carly di Matisse is a top chef, who escaped to the small town Pine Mountain to get away from her awful, almost ex-husband. The restaurant she’s the main chef for might not be as famous as the one she used to work at, but she enjoys being the only main chef. But she longs to return to New York, and she refuses to get attached to Pine Mountain or anyone there, especially the rugged and sexy contractor, Jackson Carter.
Jackson doesn’t believe in love for himself. With his DNA from his father, he refuses to fall in love. But the moment he sees Carly, her passionate and fiery nature pulls him in. And the fact that she’s only temporary in his town, make her even more irresistible.
But temporary soon turns into a lot more serious emotions.
I had a hard time connecting with the main characters in this book. At first Carly came across as a bit of a bitch, and I didn’t like how she treated Jackson. And then Jackson kept pushing Carly away, even made her think that he was cheating on a girlfriend of his (which he wasn’t), just because he didn’t want her to get attached to him, and him to her. It was all just too much pushing away for me, and I eventually lost interest in their romance.
I’m pretty sure my issues with the book were more a case of “it’s me, not you”, and that most readers who love small town romances will enjoy this book.
