The Devaneys #3-4

The Devaney Brothers: Michael & Patrick

Rate this book
#1 New York Times bestselling author Sherryl Woods brings readers two classic tales of the Devaneys…brothers torn apart in childhood, reunited by love.

Michael's Discovery

For years, Kelly Andrews has waited for her big brother's best friend to notice her. As the physical therapist assigned to his recovery, she's finally getting the chance. But navy SEAL Michael Devaney is broken in body and spirit, and all he sees is himself—as half a man. He's sure he'll never be enough for the beautiful and vibrant Kelly. Can Kelly convince him that he's all the man she would ever need?

Patrick's Destiny

Devastated by the discovery of a terrible family secret, Patrick Devaney has shut out the world. But enchanting kindergarten teacher Alice Newberry sees the hurt in his eyes and is determined to help Patrick find peace. She knows it will take a lesson in love and forgiveness to coax the brooding fisherman out of hiding. Soon, Patrick begins to hope, but before he can truly claim Alice as his own, he has to face the greatest challenge of his life—his past.

With two other careers to her credit before becoming a novelist and four states in which she's lived for extended periods of time, Sherryl Woods has collected friends and memories, along with way too much unnecessary junk.

"The friends are the only things I've brought with me through the years that really matter," she says. "I could probably live without one more chintz teacup, another tin-litho sandpail or another snowglobe, but I need those friends."

The theme of enduring friendships and families is always central to Sherryl's books, including her latest Chesapeake Shores series — THE INN AT EAGLE POINT, FLOWERS ON MAIN and HARBOR LIGHTS.

Author of more than 100 romance and mystery novels, Sherryl Woods grew up in Virginia. Over the years she had lived in Ohio and Florida, as well as California. Currently she divides her time between Key Biscayne, Florida and Colonial Beach, Virginia, the small, river-front town where she spent her childhood summers.

A graduate of Ohio State University School of Journalism, Sherryl spent more than ten years as a journalist, most of them as a television critic for newspapers in Ohio and Florida. For several years she also coordinated a motivational program for the more than 8,000 employees at the University of Miami-Jackson Memorial Medical Center.

Her first book, RESTORING LOVE, was published in 1982 by Dell Candlelight Ecstasy under the pseudonym of Suzanne Sherrill. Her second book, SAND CASTLES, under the pseudonym of Alexandra Kirk, was published later that same year by Bantam. She began using her own name when she moved to the Second Chance at Love line at Berkley Publishing. In 1986, she began writing full-time and also began her long career at Silhouette Books with the Desire title NOT AT EIGHT, DARLING, set in the world of television which she covered for so many years.

In addition to her more than 75 romances for Silhouette Desire and Special Edition, she has written thirteen mysteries — nine in the Amanda Roberts series and four in the Molly DeWitt series.

When she's not writing or reading, Sherryl loves to garden, though she's not at her best on a riding lawn mower. She also loves tennis, theater, and ballet, even though her top spin has long since vanished, she's never set foot on a stage, and she's way too uncoordinated to dance. She also loves baseball and claims anyone who's ever seen Kevin Costner in "Bull Durham" can understand why.

You can tell that these books are re-releases of older books, and that is sometimes why things bothered me.

With Michael's story I was so annoyed with how he thought that until he was healed and "whole" again that he wasn't worth Kelly's love. I hated how it kept jerking Kelly around. I did love that Michael's foster family was a good one, one that embraced Michael's brothers like their own.

I had some of the same issues with Patrick's story that I did with Michael's. I hated how Patrick jerked Alice around. What I did like was how Patrick embraced his brothers even as he was thrown by how he was one of the chosen boys. It was interesting how Patrick observed his brothers and their sense of togetherness, while craving to be part of it.

I look forward to Daniel's book, mostly because I want to know what happened with Molly and him and also with what happened with the parents and why they left the 3 older boys.

I really enjoyed The Devaney Brothers series. Each time I read a new brothers story, I kept thinking "thats my favorite story" then I would move on and read about another brother and think "nope, thats my favorite brother" They each have their own story and each brother has to overcome an obstacle to be able to love their lady. In short, its a fun easy read.

This is the story of two of the Devaney Brothers, Michael an ex-SEAL and Patrick, one of the twins that the brothers had not seen since they were two years old. Michael's story is surrounded by his injuries when a sniper shot him and his rehabilitation. His therapist was his best friend's younger sister who had a crush on him since she was a teenager. It was important to put her feelings aside and help Michael walk again because he felt like he had no future without his being a SEAL.

The second story is about Patrick and this story had a lot of emotions tied to his leaving home when he found out that his parents had abandoned their three sons without the twins even knowing about them. He had lost all faith in love and family when he learned what they had done with no explanation. For six years he had lived the life of basically a hermit until he met a kindergarten teacher who turned his life upside down. The three brothers that he had not seen since he was a baby showed up and welcomed him back into a family again. It was Alice's love and determination that convinced Patrick to reunite at least with his twin brother. This was a great read.

These were romance novels with just the right amount of heat. They fulfuilled genre expectations with some nice distinguishing touches. I enjoyed them for their sweetness. Reading the plot summaries of the books about the other three Devaney brothers, I thought they would be too sweet for my taste. I still might think so. But with smooth writing like this, I'm going to pick them up and try them later. Perhaps I'll be just as pleasantly surprised as I was with these two.

The writing was formulaic. I also didn’t like how the interesting part of Michael’s story - finding Patrick, was teased but not fully shown until Patrick’s book. Again in Patrick’s book, the interesting part was the idea of the brothers reuniting with their parents, which I assume won’t happen until Daniel’s story.

Devaney brothers three and four

This has the third & fourth Devaney brothers' stories. I really love this series. The women that help these brothers become a family again are amazing. The heartache and struggle that each couple goes through is heartbreaking and yet in the end encouraging.

The story about Michael was wonderful. I thoroughly enjoyed it! The story about Patrick, not so much. It was too tense for my liking. But I do look forward to eventually reading the continuing saga.

The first one was okay the second one did not have a lot of plot just revolved around whether they would sleep together and very graphic at that. And not so good friend molly was annoying. no doubt she was jealous and couldnt stop trying to cause trouble. Alice should have dumped her.

The Devaney Brothers are on a quest to find each other. These two stories are a continuation of this quest. The brothers were abandoned as young children. A new story is added as each one is found. This has been very fun to follow. I have one more brother to catch up with and his story is sitting on my table. I was a little disappointed in Patrick's story as it seemed to have less of a story than the others. Since his odyssey was different from the older brothers, I expected something different. However, I am looking forward to Daniel's story which should wrap up this fun and intriguing series.

took longer to read due to cloudy weather and energy levels. great book overall. I wish they would make this a series on tv. the concept is amazing. I like the way things build slowly and things aren't rushed into like in some other books I've read or tried to read. The characters are memorable and believable and the circumstances make the reader sympathize with the character's conflicting emotions. Great read. highly recommend.

Patrick lives alone on a boat. Annie lives alone on the shore. They both have regrets. Patrick treats Annie like crap, Annie fights for his love, knowing she can change him. Unrealistic and more than a little insulting to women everywhere. I always hope that stories will get better, be less predictable, will show more respect, but I am often disappointed.

hmmm.... no... physical therapist takes on childhood crush as a patient and jumps into a very involved personal relationship, ending up in bed, of course --- SO UNPROFESSIONAL!!! In the real world, this is grounds to be censured and lose her license to practice...
