Stephen del Mar is a fresh voice in Southern Gay Fiction. His Bennett Bay collection of books and stories explore life in that unique corner of the American South known as Florida. He also writes fantasy and science-fiction. Del Mar lives in the Tampa Bay region of Florida and enjoys Key Lime Pie and mango margaritas, but not at the same time. He also finds constantly barking Chihuahuas nearly as distracting to the writing process as Facebook and Twitter, but don’t tell his housemate.

A fearless, unapologetic trip into the dark insanity of grief.  Very few cross over to this extreme, but when some lose their minds to grief, it can be lethal.

This is a short trip into darkness.

This was a short quick read that was ok to me. This was my first time reading this author. Simon is a psychologist, and works for the Minneapolis Police Department in forensics. Something really terrible happened to Simon and his lover James at Gay Pride the previous June, and the story opens with Simon sitting on a snowy park bench, lost in his own thoughts. This begins his trip into madness. While this book was well written I wanted more I like reading m/m and dark and I am looking forward to reading more from this author.

WOW, what a dark look into the psyche of someone who has had a break with reality. Not for the timid, but a very good read. Makes you wonder what would happen if the same thing happened to you.

Dark and twisted... I enjoyed this story a lot.

But the blurb... well, IMHO, the blurb is sorta misleading as it led me to think the story would be from a POV that it was not. Not sure if author wrote it that way on purpose or what.

OK, I’ll admit it. I read a short story that wasn’t a part of an Anthology, and I liked it so much I felt I needed to do a review on it! I was actually researching the author’s two new books coming out in June and stumbled on this story. I’m glad I did.

Simon is a psychologist, and works for the Minneapolis Police Department in forensics. Something really terrible happened to Simon and his lover James at Gay Pride the previous June, and the story opens with Simon sitting on a snowy park bench, lost in his own thoughts.

Thus begins a really dark, twisted tale into one man’s rapid descent into madness. I’m not giving any other spoilers. It is only 99 cents on Amazon and free with Kindle Unlimited, so give it a read. I highly recommend it. It was one of those things I finished reading and just went, “wow, that was twisted.” Great job Mr. del Mar!
