Headstrong ex-convent girl Jade has renounced the church that tried to curb her independence. Now, she travels the world, seeking adventure and the pleasures of forbidden ritual.
But she's tricked by a treacherous sorcerer, and forced into a darker kind of slavery. She's a succubus, with a powerful demon lord her master for a thousand years.
At least, that's what he thinks. Jade accepts no man's domination, least of all a demon's. She's determined to thwart her fate.
But she's yet to discover the true meaning of demon thrall...
Hellcursed is a prequel short story to the Shadowfae Chronicles series. 5400 words. Previously published on the author's website.
Erica Hayes was a law student, an air force officer, an editorial assistant and a musician, before finally landing her dream job: fantasy writer. She writes dark paranormal romance, urban fantasy and romantic science fiction, and her books feature tough, smart heroines and colorful heroes with dark secrets.
She hails from Australia, where she drifts from city to city, leaving a trail of chaos behind her. Currently, she’s terrorizing the wilds of Northern Virginia, USA.
I don't have a lot to say about this considering it was less than 30 pages but it was enough to get me interested in continuing the series so it did it's job as a free short prequel!
Wow... that was... hot... and interesting... So, yeah, this was a fantasy erotica — which I didn't know when I picked it up. Short and hot, and an interesting prequel to a series — even if I won't be spending money on it, as I don't have any to spend on books ATM.
The language was good, and mostly had a good flow. My only problem was that the author ended up using words sounding rather alike close to each other, which threw me a little.
I also had some trouble with a rather big plot hole, that might be filled out in the actuall books, but kind of weakened the short. That said, this was just what I needed ATM
A prequel, 0.5 in The Shadowfae Chronicles dark urban fantasy series revolving around Jade, a stubborn woman who wanted it all. Set in an alternative Constantinople in 1863. In this case, Hayes states this prequel is historical and it is very erotic.
My Take Poor Jade. It’s being so difficult to resist this demon she’s been traded to. A betrayal that dooms her.
It’s a tale of greed and what can result from it, using first person protagonist point-of-view from Jade’s perspective.
Hayes does go on and on about the erotic “rapture” Jade is experiencing in her new “position” with this new master. Although, it’s not as annoying as I had expected.
This may tip you off that this short story is mostly talk, as Jade experiences such need. A need that grows and grows . . . and grows to a point where she must slake the need, even with her determination to resist Kane.
It’s the initial slaking that tips Jade off to her new “power” and how desperately she’ll need to control it, lest she lose everyone around her.
I wish that Hayes had explored more of Jade’s initial reasons, but it’s possible they will be revealed in Shadowfae.
It’ll be interesting to see what Kane has planned for her.
The Story Intellectually Jade is desperate to resist Kane; physically she may not be able to.
She will do her damndest . . . and damned she will be.
The Characters Jade, a succubus with rapture power, is trapped into being a demon thrall.
Kane is a demon lord and Jade’s new master.
Iriyo is a firefairy dancer, trickster, and whore, who performs and works in a liquor den. A man who has lusted after Jade for too long.
Luna is the betraying sorcerer.
The Cover and Title The cover is dark with its gradient of browns for the background, Jade’s hair, her hair-covering, and her tight-fitting dress. She has embraced the pose of a seductive woman, magenta swirls enveloping her raised arms and forming a loose collar. More magenta forms a hazy-edged background for the title in a white script that spans her hips. Below that is the series info and below that is the author’s name; both are in white.
The rest of the series will be thrilling if it keeps up with this short introduction. Definitely worth checking out the 1st book proper in the series :)
So we meet 3 people in this novella. Kane, indiyo and jade. This collection of words was exactly that. See jade cry. See Kane smirk. See jade fuck. See jade cry. See Kane smirk. The end.
A short read but I was thoroughly entertained. A candy-color, sexy rotten glimpse into her Shadowfae world that leaves you wanting more, and feeling guilty/not-guilty about it. Sign me up!
