Disgraced lawyer Simon West has always called himself 'bi-curious'. But when hunky photographer Russ offers him some modeling work to pay the bills, it quickly turns into something more. Simon can't keep his eyes, or his hands, to himself, and it's clear Russ returns his passion. The more Simon knows about Russ, the more Simon wants him -- in every way. Can Simon find the courage to give Russ everything?
Kate Roman is an adventurer, a scribe, and a hopeless romantic. A native of northern California, she divides her time between dreaming of beautiful, heartbroken men and the men who love them and working in IT support. She's ably assisted by one cat, three dogs, and four rabbits and doesn't want to talk about the shameful state of her garden. She also reads more books than can possibly be healthy and can be reached at romankate@gmail.com.
What do we do when disaster hits, and everything we have studied and planned for falls apart? And we can't even blame anyone else, since it's our own fault? A terrible situation to be in, and it's exactly what happens to Simon. He starts out as a cocky young lawyer who thinks he owns he world, only to discover nothing could be further from the truth.
Simon is in trouble. He's lost his job, due to his own bad behavior, realizes he cannot afford his car any longer, and gets mugged on his way inside a bar. Not a good start to the day. But then, he's also met Russ, the photographer, so it cannot all be bad. Russ offers him a way out that Simon had never even considered, but that may just be exactly what he needs.
Russ is always looking for models, and he senses that Simon may be a good one. He's also attracted to the desperate-looking guy, so he offers him an out. Selfless, yes, but it isn't as if he suffers.
This is a fun story which shows how, sometimes, things may happen for a reason. At least, that is what Simon tells himself, and one thing is clear: he is definitely happier after he's changed his life plan, and I think he's a nicer man as well. If you're looking for a message of hope, if you enjoy reading about a man who goes from disaster to very happy, and if you like reads that are hot and funny, then you will probably like this short story.

Simon suffers from hubris, not unusual for a lawyer, but he gambled and lost. On his way down, he meets a sexy guy and then gets a helping hand when things get rough. He's got a few misconceptions about himself and he's about to learn better.
Russ is a freelance photographer who consistently gets his work sold and is always on the lookout for new faces and bodies, and he just found one. Maybe he's even found a little more.
I liked Russ straightforwardness and while the set up of a photographer and model never gets old playing into our voyeuristic desires it did seem rushed. Simon wasn't a gay virgin, but he never played catcher and suddenly he's finding out all kinds of things about himself and his likes. Surprise. This is a quick and dirty tale that is sweet.
Favorite quote:
Russ put the camera aside. “It’s gonna be damned hard to get skin work done with you.”

Something about this rubbed me the wrong way. Simon is forced to sell his convertible when he loses his job for being an ass and he runs into Russ. Before long Russ offers him a job as a model, and it doesn't take them long until Russ and Simon are getting it on. Simon is a bit off kilter as he never considered himself gay, but Russ as him very twisted up.
Before long, Russ has offered him more modeling opportunities telling him that he'll make more money if he's willing to pose nude, but Simon realizes if he ever wants to practice law again, having nude pictures wouldn't help his career. However before long he's ready to pose in the buff, but they never seem to get that far as they end up in bed.
While there is nothing overtly sleazy in this story, the whole luring the guy who needs money up to his studio and then more or less offering him money to pose naked just seemed really skeezy to me. It's what you warn your children about. As I said, it doesn't come across and of course Russ claims he doesn't do this with other models, but to offer a guy a modeling job came across as kind of creepy to me.
This is me, and my opinion. Others may not get that vibe at all. The story is well written, and Simon does go from being a bit of an ass to having a bit of self-awareness that he's put himself in this position and it's no one's fault but his own, but I just couldn't get past the premise which didn't work for me.
Simon got caught screwing three people in one day, one of them a guy, so now he’s got no job, almost no place to live, and no money. And to top that off, he’s having the worst day ever, from getting ripped off when he’s forced to sell his car to getting his wallet stolen. At a bar he meets Russ, a sexy photographer who offers him work. The more Simon bares his, um, assets, the more money he could make. Being attracted to Russ is just a bonus. But just who is seducing who?
The story is told from Simon’s point of view only. This left Russ somewhat lacking in depth. Still, his warmth and kindness do come through. I just would have wished his perspective had been present too. Simon’s story, his mistakes, the price to pay, his unfortunate situation. They are shown clearly, though. His cockiness has cost him a lot, and that is easy to relate to. Everyone has their downfalls.
The story is less insta-love and more insta-lust. Very soon the men end up in one erotic situation after another. The need for a deeper connection, though, soon shows how both are headed in the same direction even though the L word is not mentioned. Simon gives Russ something he’s never given to another man, and he learns who he is.
The writing is erotic and sensual, capable and well-paced. So, overall, a pretty good erotic quickie.
