Fairy tails are meant to offer hope. People who are truly good eventually get their happy ending and the evil people of the world get theirs as well.

That's what Eve Christiansen tells herself every day when she wakes up. The problem is she doesn't believe in fairy tales anymore. She gave up on them long before she knew just how cruel the world could be. All she wants is to be happy and, despite her best efforts to be a decent human being, the universe refuses to grant her the one thing she yearns for the most. A lifetime of disappointments and hardships forces her to wear a mask of normalcy to hide what a broken person she really is. She finds herself grasping at the tattered threads of life just to make it through each day.

When she meets Jacob Hamilton, she knows he isn't the man of her dreams. He isn't any different from every other man passing through her life. He is just another suit and tie reminding her she doesn't fit in the world she is surrounded by.

She can feel the fragile threads of life breaking every day, each one painfully slipping through her tired hands.

I obtained my formal training from life. I have a degree in General Smart Assery and I continue my education everyday with sarcasm and a pinch of humor.
On a serious note, I've always considered myself a daydreamer. My mind often wonders to imaginary worlds with imaginary people who feel just as real as you and I. I never entertained the possibility of writing because, quite frankly, I never thought it was something I'd be good at. One day there was so much chatter between the characters in my head that I decided to write it all down just to get it out. One could say that's when the light bulb went off for me. It felt amazing to purge the stories from my bones. The more I write, the more I imagine. Cheesy? Yes. True? Absolutely.

there comes along, once in a while, a free book that blows your socks off. THIS is that once in a while!

Jacob (not shortened to Jake, much judos for that!) is based in Eve's legal office, while someone else is off sick. Eve has a crush on Jacob, and when he joins her for lunch, all her dreams come true. they embark on a relationship (in secret, as office romances are frowned upon) Eve also has to deal with her two best friends, Kami, and Ethan, her drug addict sister, and her bitch of a mother, as well as all the emotional baggage she carries from her troubled childhood. when the office "I'm better than you" type person drops a clanger, all hell breaks loose.

Eve also has a stalker.

i'll not say any more of the plot, suffices to say, its a doozy!

I love Eve. she is a strong woman, dealing with her past, but not letting it control her. Jacob is just the man for her. Kami and Ethan are funny too, but not together, which I thought would come, but doesn't. Ethan is a policeman and is "a manwhore" his words :-) I have no words for the mother bitch. seriously nasty piece of work!

the book is written from Eve's point of view. it would have been nice to know what Jacob was thinking from time to time. the plot moves along at a good even pace, with little hints dropped here and there, and its a good plot! there is sex, lots and lots of sex, but its all good and well placed in the story. no violence until.....

...right at the very end, when the stalker plot line comes to a head. and when I say right at the very end, I MEAN IT!!! last two pages!!! what an ending!! went straight onto amazon and bought the next one!
