When Game Warden, Eden StCloud, goes up against CEO, Monroe StoneCrow, she encounters the most intimidating, powerful, and sexy man she’s ever seen. Unaware of the fact that Monroe is the Dominant Skin Walker in North America, it isn’t until Eden becomes enmeshed in his life that she realizes it’s too late to escape. Worse, she’s drawn the children under her care into the lair of the beast and must now succumb to Monroe’s desires or risk losing her children forever.

CEO, Monroe StoneCrow, is a man tormented by his obsession with creating a haven for his Skin Walkers. Determined to form a community where his Walkers can exist in peace, he has no time or desire to seek out his own mate, his angel. When Eden StCloud crosses his path, there is no denying his instant attraction, or his overwhelming animalistic urge to claim her. His affliction is so intense that even his own medical experts are at a loss to ease his symptoms. With his Skin Walker refuge in danger of collapse due to his preoccupation with Eden, Monroe is stymied by his inability to do what he’s always done…simply take what he wants.

My pack territory is in Central Montana, between Stone Crow Estates and the North Fortress. Born and raised in an untamed location that bridges the gap between rolling prairies and majestic mountain peaks, I am born to a family that also bridges the gap between cultures. My father’s people boast a fiercely proud Scandinavian ancestry while my mother’s tribes descend from two savagely beautiful and unique nations (White Clay and Nakoda) that inspire my Skin Walker series.

I'm a huge fan of MMA, boxing, 30 Seconds to Mars, DMX, Nahko and Medicine for the People, and 21 Pilots (“…sometimes quiet is violent”). I also love to read because it encourages me to write. (I hate it when authors add that they love coffee and chocolate. Really? Who doesn't love coffee and chocolate?) Anyway, I love beer...kidding. I don't love beer but we are engaged in a very serious relationship. (Mom, please don't call me when you read this.)

Please leave feedback….well, only if it’s positive. “Keep in mind that I’m an artist and I’m sensitive about my shit!  (Erykah Badu lyrics!)

Wow, Monroe, the male mc, is a giant douchebag. I hated him and his book. I really only read this trying to figure out the mystery of what the doctor was doing, but unless it's exterminating all these characters, I no longer care.

Monroe wants Eden and when she says no to it & anything else in the book, he manipulates her. He uses her children against her and uses them to get what he wants. He should die. Kick to the ballsack. Boom.

Delicious :D I will be coming back for seconds ;)

Song Choice: "Taking Control" by Eisley, "Too Afraid To Love You" by The Black Keys, And "Lonely Boy" The Black Keys.

First thoughts: Okay I am a seasoned, veteran reader of Susan Bliler. I am pretty sure my first book with her was Territory - and from then on I was hooked. Nothing could stop me! I was an insta-fan! With her last release Leto I found myself yeah still in love but also I don't know it wasn't my favorite Susan book - sorry Susan if you reading this and you are like BITCH! or if you are a huge Leto fan and you are still going BITCH! but honesty is the best policy...unless you are wrong. haha anyways! I found myself eating this up and positively in love. Such a beautiful story, mixed with that hot, chemistry lusty feeling at first mixed with, holy hot sex, and swoon. Anyone following this series has probably been waiting for Monroe to get his, and boy does he! BWHAHA.

Thoughts on Plot: It started out pretty quickly as most of Susan's books do which i love! And if you have any experience with this series then you know that yeah they have the soul-mate rule, kinda, but anyways i was pleased with this book because it took a while for this to come into play. the characters had been through stuff together, they were at each other throats it was fun to unfold. Okay yeah most of the real action-y action is in the beginning and sort of fades off but i was never bored with anything else that happened. I liked watching their relationship progress, it was very, very entertaining.

Oh...holy hot sex.

Characters:

(okay i have found myself doing this more and more casting of characters)

So say hi to Edie - not Eddie ;)

And a howdy to Monroe:

Edie: is fierce! I really do love her, she was so self-less, and such a mama grizzly she is dangerous. She love nature, and she fights for what she wants. She is a good main girl character, not to whiny, not too badass with her i don't like to be weak stuff - i do understand that but at times its like we all have our weak points. I like Susan's characters as well because they weren't all the same girls and they aren't all the same boys. Anyways she was really good character, very loyal but scared to trust.

Monroe: Welp! He takes Alpha male to a whole new level really. Like i thought the other boys in Susan's books were bad-ass but my God! Monroe is one possessive man. And very demanding, and controlling ;) ;) I liked it i did, I don't think he was sooo bad that i was like dude back the fuck up or anything because yeah i would think he would fun as hell to mess with if i could get away with it.

The kids....? I am not sure if the summary goes over this - honestly I saw a post on facebook that this was released and i one-clicked it and started reading. So i thought at first that they were going to be pushed into the background and completely, almost forgotten about but they weren't and i loved that! It gave the book this heart-warming story. I loved it :D great aspect in this book honestly.

The ending...good, very good :D I want Gouge's story and i want to know a bit more about it please! and thank you susan I love you keep writing forever :D

So if you want to check out how i felt about other amazing reads feel free to stop by this thing called a blog that i have. yay for blogs....

I have read and liked the previous books but not this one.

Except for their love and devotion to abandoned skinwalker children, I didn't care for the hero or heroine.
I understand that he was the premier alpha leader and needed a tough woman at his side but I felt that
he was just arrogantly domineering and
she was high-handed and tiresome.

3.5 stars. There were a lot of things I liked about this book - the H and h, the kids, smexy stuff, and overall development of their relationship. The h in particular was really good. Overall, an enjoyable read.

However, I have one big issue which made me round down - she changed the rules! In the previous books, we are told that as soon as the Skin Walker meets his angel and looks into her eyes, he is hit with the bond. Now we are told that it can happen later?! WTF? While I would have been fine with that from the beginning, changing it now is annoying. Also, it makes me think that maybe Shy could have been with York - who was so much more appealing than Leto - after all, if they had just given him the time. (And just what is up with York and Shy's sister? And that isn't even the next book!)

One smaller nitpick - the whole tearing up the mountainside issue just disappeared.

And finally, please, please look up the difference between vicious and viscous! I can overlook most of the editing mistakes but that one throw me out of the story every time. It was even worse in Leto but the fact that it continues in this book just makes me cringe.

I don't think Susan is going to write a Skin Walker book that I don't like! (knocks on wood)

Susan has become and auto-buy for me since the first book I read, Conn.

I love books about men that are all Alpha, and got a little bit of animal in them, they growl, snarl, and the world MINE rumbles out of their chest like a barbarian. Seriously, I don't care how non-feminist that is. I like the books, get over it!

Monroe's book was a really pleasant surprise. It was a bit different than the other books, and Monroe was ten times the Alpha--well he is the Alpha of his people. His chest bounding made me to hot I was screaming into my sheet when he would get all hot and bothered and told Eden exactly what she was going to do, how she was going to do it, and what was going to go down between them. Once the 'mating' took effect with the halo--holy holy holy!!!!!!

It was so brilliant to see that, and it was even more brilliant to see Monroe be humbled by his little woman. I think she might even be WORSE than him. I respect any woman that is strong, independent, and has mamma bear instincts.

Can I just say that I LOVED the scene when she left him, and he showed up in the hotel room to explain himself. I cried, I laughed, and I felt so connected to Monroe in that one scene I wanted to reach into the book and crawl into his lap myself!

Another win for Susan and her Skin Walkers!

This was completely unexpected. I thought this was going to be a cute and short read. But, no, this was amazing. I really liked it. I read Monroe instead of book one in the series, King, because I have a thing for head honchos.
I liked Eden, she was badass and fierce.
Monroe was okay, I liked him, but I didn't love him. Sometimes I read his voice with an accent in my head.
The supporting characters were great, without them I don't know if the story would've been as good as it was.
Monroe and Eden's relationship was amazing. I loved that it wasn't fast and easy. They had regular troubles, and their love had time to grow.
Monroe was fierce, and never gave up.

“And if I hadn’t forgiven you?”
He smiled and leaned down to kiss her briefly.  “I’d have stayed until you had.  I refuse to lose you.  I refuse!”

I really didn't like the unnecessary explanation points, and Monroe's need to yell unnecessarily, that's the reason I'm not giving a full five stars.

Interesting take on shapeshifters. Not the worst paranormal romance, not the best. I'm not sure I liked the whole intimidation, submission thing. I was interested in the story and liked it (somewhat) but the romance section did leave me a little conflicted. Could have been much better.

I won an audio copy of Monroe, and boy was I lucky! This was a fantastic listen and I can't believe that I haven't gotten on the Skin Walker bandwagon before now. I love a good paranormal series that focuses on one couple at a time and that is exactly what Bliler delivers in the Skin Walker series. If you are a fan of stories like Laurann Dohners' New Species series this would be a good addition to your reading list. I had no problem reading this one as a stand alone, but I know that I have missed some goodness so I will have to go back and read from the beginning soon.

Monroe is the leader of the Skin Walker community and has set out to create a haven where other Skin Walkers can come together and establish their own fully functioning and self sufficient community. Monroe is determined to give his people a place where they can feel safe, raise their families, and be free to live their lives without the interference of outsiders. Monroe didn't expect to find his mate when he went up against the riled Eden, but he was immediately attracted to her attitude and determination to protect what she loved; her children and her mountain. Monroe is the alpha of all Walker alphas. He knows that it will take a particularly strong willed woman to handle both him and the role of the female alpha to his pack. Monroe isn't sure if Eden is his mate, but he knows that he is very attracted to the confident and independent game warden.

Eden is a woman with a mission. As a game warden, Eden is charged with the safety of both the people on her mountain and the welfare of the wild animals that live in her area. Eden takes her job very seriously. When Monroe comes into the area making drastic changes to the landscape she isn't afraid to confront him over what she feels is going to do more harm than good to the environment. Although Monroe claims to be building a wildlife refuge and rescue community Eden knows that there has to be more going on than what he is willing to admit to. Both Eden and Monroe are harboring secrets that are more closely connected than they know. Eden has adopted a group of abandoned children and forged a family and a life all on her own. Eden will stop at nothing to protect her children no matter who or what she has to fight.

Monroe is a well written paranormal romance with steaminess and love that doesn't happen lightening fast. The story is nicely open ended so that we know that there is much more story to be told, but without the dreaded cliffhanger. Monroe is a complete story in itself. I look forward to reading more of this series!

I absolutely just LOVE Susan Bliler's writing!!! SW Monroe is one of the long awaited books to be released and I am not disappointed in the least after reading it. :) Before I go into "details" with my review, I need to make a point that I will not give away to much detail. PERIOD. I strongly believe that a review that does can spoil it for readers to come. They can also cause the reader to look for those parts in the book, which again, can ruin it. Another thing I can't and WON'T do is write a damn book about the book. I mean COME ON! Say what you like or don't like and STOP. (Only my opinion.) Plus, READ THE SYNOPSIS ABOUT THE BOOK. :) With that said:

Monroe is a very Dominant Skin Walker in this read and if you like that, OOOOOH MY! If not, you will. LOL Then you have Eden who is a very strong willed lady who is a Game Warden for the State's Dept of Fish and Wildlife and Park. BUT she is also considered a law enforcement officer. :-0 Put them two together with a bunch of friction, animosity, sexual tension and..Yup - SPARKS FLYING BABEEEEE. You will also get to hear a little bit about SW history and a few more great tid bits in this one. Not to mention there are other characters and exciting things that are also going on in the book that will keep you glued to the story and begging for more when you finish. I think I like this one the best so far.

Now, unfortunately, I do have a little complaint with how this one was written. I got quite confused a few times while reading it because I didn't know who was thinking/saying what at the time. Sometimes Eden would be thinking/talking and then a phrase would come along and throw me for a loop because it wouldn't fit quite right with her way of thinking. It would turn out to be Monroe doing the thinking/talking. And vice versa. But I wouldn't figure it out until after I had to stop and reread it a few times. So, hopefully in the future books from Susan she could either put the name of the speaker within a break in the paragraphs or have their name in hyphens or even use the saying as a quotation, that would help tremendously. (Boy I hope I explained that well enough.)

I still highly recommend this read. If you like Susan's other SW books, you will love this one. Hell, if you like ANY of Susan's other books, you will love this one. I can NOT wait for the next "few" to come out. York, Gauge, Redknife...ANY SW will do. :) Soo, happy reading and be prepared for some drooling and wishing you had a SW for yourself!!

I was sooo looking forward to Monroe's book as he is one hot alpha male and he was my favourite in the series.

The heroine Eden, once again let this book down. She was just too combatively stubborn, even towards her own safety. I did not like that she uses her children as a crutch against life.

Monroe as the head of the Skin Walkers needed someone tough, smart but also soft and I did not feel that Eden brought this to their relationship.
I think Susan tried to show Eden as tough but she just came across as a bully when she tried to use her position into imitating Monroe and his men. That scene with the cars did not show strength of character at all.

Her soft side only came through with her kids. There was nothing about her that made you want to be her friend. When things got tough she took her kids and ran. I just could not like her no matter how hard I tried, I think I could not get over how she used her job by bullying Monroe and his men.

The relationship build up was not strong enough for me. The sex as always was hot.

For me this was a disappointing read as I had huge expectations for Monroe's book. There was no action or fight against the bad guys. Seeing as there was no drama the romance should have been the crux of this story but I did not feel it.

I will continue with this series as it still has a lot of potential, I just wish Susan writes better heroines than what she has been giving us so far.

I loved this book so much... these two are perfect for eachother and truly complete eachother. Both challenge and help to change for the better. Eden helps Monroe to be more open and accepting, to not be so hard on everyone. Monroe taught Eden it is okay to lean on someone for help when needed, that together these two can handle anything that comes to them.. this series is amazing...

Monroe is the man in charge of having StoneCrow built, it was his dream plan to have a place where skin walkers can go and feel safe. Planning on expanding on his property he is having troubles from his beautiful neighbor Eden, and her not allowing the contractors access to a road. He is the Dominant Walker and when he finds his Angel, his Affliction will be stronger then all other walkers.
Eden is a tough sassy strong woman who does not let anyone boss or push her around because she is a woman. She is stubborn and strong willed, which makes Eden perfect for Monroe.
All the other walkers sure get a kick out of watching Monroe go through his affliction, after all he has made the others go through. They are really joying the payback

Overall opinion: 2.5 Stars

The main characters are not very likeable and the chemistry between the two seemed very forced. I did like the story but didn't care for how much of a jerk the H was through most of the book. The h fell from any positive feelings from me when she made a TSTL move to save a wolf in treacherous conditions knowing that she was the sole provider for 4 adopted children. Everyone says don't do it, she acts like a spoiled child with a chip on her shoulder and does it anyway... really?

If manipulating Alpha's aren't your thing, this may not be the book for you. I am re-reading this series from 2013, and while D/S is not my thing and certain aspects definitely hit discordant notes for me, I always love seeing the mighty getting knocked once they find their better half. And I do mean better. Edie is the consummate nurturer and Monroe is the over bearing, manipulate dominant. She isn't weak or without defensive skills. She is a mother for Pete's sake, so she does what needs to be done and pity whoever gets between her and her kids.
Monroe doesn't stand a chance and he is a better person for it.
Well worth your time and $$

Finding his buffer

I love watching these alpha walkers fall. As the top dominant, Monroe is domineering, manipulative and sometimes cruel. But his heart is in the right place, maybe. If not before, once he finds his angel he has no choice. The author found the perfect compliment to this hard nosed alpha and he is in for the fight of his life to keep his perfect family. I enjoyed how these two characters clashed and how they came together, finding the balance they both need. I look forward to seeing them appear in future books and getting to see how their family grows.

it just had to be good

This book was so engaging from start to finish, it just flowed so well that I couldn’t put it down. As this story was about the dominant you wouldn’t expect anything else. All the characters were engaging including the kids that just made you smile, the combustible of the two major players was wonderful to read with the other characters also putting in their appearances just played so well. Loved it but again I recommend reading in order

Not exactly what I expected. Though it's #7 in the series, I listened to it and found I had no need for the backstory/worldbuilding from the previous books. Grabbed it on my Audible Romance package for a quick, free listen. Wasn't bad. Different take on skinwalkers.

This my first Skin Walker novel, I apparently by-passed the other three and dived in for Monroe :P

I have a different review for different parts of the book. Summing it up i can to my rating of Exactly! 2.5 stars.
Meaning i kind of liked it but just couldnt accept it. (ie the book, not my grudging liking to it.)

Im going to divide the book in three parts and then review each part.

The Beginning
About 50 pages into the book and i had my review all figured out. . .i was gonna rate this a solid 2 stars. I really wanted to like this but it just didnt click, at least not at this point. I was frustrated, I didnt like Monroe, his sentry, even King seemed sooo robotic-for the lack of a better word. As for Eden. . . i dont think my dislike for her changed throughout the entire book, expect when maybe she was interacting with the kids.

The Middle
Now here things got better, i guess thats mostly because the kids got a bigger role, I have a big *cough* *gianormous* soft spot for kids, so maybe that was just me. But i loved the little boys and Peyton *sigh* *swoon* Adorbs! Even Micah was soo cute at times :P
and than . . .
Monroe is hit with his "affliction" and safe to say, things went downhill from there. I mean really! its not supposed to be painful, honestly were it me, id be afraid of finding "my angel", not really looking forward to it.

The Ending(or close)
I swear! im not into the whole "Dom-thing" and quite seriously would have loved a warning. Maybe then i wouldnt have read this or maybe i would have but just the same, i wasnt expecting this, so it was one of those bad surprises. I found Eden's reaction to Monroe's final mistake, a bit too much. Dont get me wrong, id be just as mad but i wouldnt have done what she did and i especially disapproved of Monroe's solution to his mistake, the second part to his solution that is. But what really bugged me, was all the missing plot.

Every once in a while i tend to get restless, though i have hundreds of books to choose from, none appeal to me. I was in this state when i picked this book up, surprisingly, Monroe's story intrigued me, made me want to know, made me want to read.
Maybe i was expecting too much, since it caught my attention in this phase but still, I was disappointed.

4th book in the series got me wishing I went for Leto first.

I loved Monroe in the previous books even with his crazy ways of pushing other Walkers to mate their angels. For some reason he behaved damn stupid for someone who wanted to preserve and enhance the Walker way of like. I kept on shouting at my reader "mate her already!!!". He ended up being all talk no action.
I felt I am in a BDSM story with vanilla flavor.
I didn't feel the need to see him dominate Eden, his presence in the room did just that. I guess I missed the little courtship that I wanted from him since I didn't see him all that savage. The image I had was a gentleman so it didn't work for me the new Monroe.
Eden was feisty in the begging but towards the end if she didn't spend her time wounded in the hospital she was irritating.
Not my favorite of them all...and I miss the action, drama, enemy attracts to make the series work for me and give them a family feel or a pack.
