The World building was awesome, the characters where good. It was an enjoyable read, but I don't feel compelled to go right into book two at this point. I didn't particularly like Kai in book one. I'm sure i'll go back to this series at some point though! :)
This book had elements that should have really worked for me. But for some reason I had a really hard time getting into and staying with this book. I cannot identify why, so I cannot issue any warnings per se. I think the author's writing just did not draw me in for whatever reason so I struggled to finish.
That being said, this was still a solid PNR with a complex, yet understandable world, a strong bond between the Hero and heroine, lots (and lots) of steamy, sexy scenes and some good secondary characters (with limited development) that will have books in the series.
The Hero and heroine were pretty likable. Seemed to be equals in most ways and developed a partnership. They worked well together - as opposed to the heroine being saved by the hero constantly. I thought their relationship was solid and based on more than just lust.
Refreshingly unique, Wicked Wind blows away traditional paranormal romance!
As if a handful of sexy warrior demons isn't enough, this book also delivers the kickass female lead! From page one, I wanted to be Nicole! The gorgeous Solsti who has the power to control the wind. She and her sister take to the city streets to pound on drug dealers and pimps. I was sucked into the book immediately. But it's the moment when this tough girl meets her match in demon warrior Gunnar, and the pages practically ignite with sexual tension.
Sharon Kay takes her reader on a wild ride through demon realms and back while Gunnar and Nicole fight an evil that will have you checking under your bed. *shiver* The supernatural characters of this story are so unique and well rounded they practically jump from the page. And the love scenes? WOW! So steamy you'll be fanning your face to control the blush.
And the best part? This is only the first book in a series so there's more to come. :) Wicked Wind is a paranormal romance readers dream!
Nicole's power to control the wind swept me up and carried me to a land of sexy demons and a kick ass heroine. If you love paranormal romance, you are sure to love this story. Wicked Wind hooks you from the start and keeps you there. Honestly it's hard to put down.
The way Gunnar and Nicole meet is unique, funny and down right steamy. Their relationship takes your heart on a wild ride of up's and downs and around hidden curves. I never knew what was going to happen next, when I thought it was going to go one way it turned the other.
It's action packed and full of mystery and enchantment. I felt as though I was transported to a different world and right beside the characters as they fought demons and encountered some weird creatures. The way the plot unfolded left me wanting more. And guess what? It's the first in the series. I can't wait for the second one!
I received a copy of this book for an honest review for Amber's Reading Room.
Kick ass heroines deserve kiss ass heroes and author Sharon Kay serves up a worthy pair in “Wicked Wind,” an exciting and scorching hot new paranormal romance.
Born with the ability to control the wind, 28 year-old Nicole Bonham has always known she was different. For years protecting the secret of her powers and the unique powers held by her younger sisters has been priority but Nicole is feeling compelled to do and be more. She and her sisters start training to use their powers for good and fight crime in their hometown of Chicago.
During a nighttime crime fighting excursion Nicole is spotted by powerful Lash demon Gunnar. Gunnar’s job is to patrol Earth and various other realms to maintain peace and the balance of power between other supernatural beings. When he feels Nicole’s power he is drawn to her and makes it his new mission to find out who and what she is.
When Nicole and Gunnar connect “Wicked Wind” rockets into full gear with fierce warrior demons, ancient witches, overly affectionate nymphs, a scary big bad, and a rare prophecy about four powerful beings called Solsti. Rumored to be myth the Solsti are actually four beings that only come to exist when the world is in dire need. The Solsti’s immense power over the elements of earth, wind, fire, and water will lead to either humanities salvation or destruction.
“Wicked Wind” grabbed my attention quickly and I couldn’t stop reading until I consumed the whole story. This book has all the elements of a fun read – a solid couple with intense sparks evident in early chapters, cool action sequences, interesting but easy to follow mythology, and bedroom scenes so hot I had to occasionally fan myself.
“He had to hear the pounding of her heart as it crashed wildly in her chest. She had invited a demon to her bed, and every cell in her body was on edge with curiosity and aching need.”
I’m a sucker for well-done multiple POV’s and Kay gives Gunnar his own distinct voice. Hearing both Nicole and Gunnar’s thoughts gave the heat between the two characters extra intensity.
“The need to claim her grew to a crescendo. Claim not just her body but her very soul. He didn’t want any other man to touch her, to caress her silky skin, ever again. She was his.”
“Wicked Wind” was a super fun and worthy read. I recommend checking it out. For those new to the paranormal genre “Wicked Wind” would be a great jumping in story. Give it a try.
“Wicked Wind” will be followed by “Wicked Waves” which will focus on Nicole’s sister Brooke and Gunnar’s fellow Lash demon Kai. Both Brooke and Kai give off an edgier vibe in “Wicked Wind” so I’m really looking forward to their story and I can’t wait to see how author Sharon Kay continues to develop the universe she’s created.
Wicked Wind is book one in the Solsti Prophecy series by Sharon Kay. It’s a satisfactory start to the series. With kick ass chicks, bad boy demons, and a battle between good and evil.
Nicole is a unique women with a very special gift. She uses her gift to look out for others as well as her sisters. She has never fully understood her “talent”, but a chance meeting will change her and her sisters lives forever. Gunner our sex bad boy demon crosses path with an usual women and knew there was something different about her. He is determined to find out more.
As the plot deepens Nicole discovers her true nature and her life’s purpose is revealed. She finds her self in a world she never knew excited and must learn to harness her power and navigate this world before something very bad comes.
Within the story we also have a romance that is blazing. Nicole and Gunner have an instant attraction that builds to astronomical levels with each encounter.
The author has created a unique and interesting world. We get an adequate amount of world building to help us get into the story. The concept created is intriguing, because the author has taken the good versus evil to a whole new level. We also get a verity of paranormal creatures, some that are new and fresh. Their is no shortage of action, surprises, hot sexy scenes, heart break, potential romances as well as past loves lost that maybe rekindled.
Wicked Wind has peeked my interest and I am intrigued to see where things develop with these hardcore Alpha males and the women who claim their hearts as the battle to save the races continues.
One of the things I love about PNR is that it's a complete escape from reality. You literally leave your own world and enter another where the rules have changed, the "people" are different, the possibilities & plot twists are endless. I'm always amazed by the imaginations of these writers who can so craftily create the most amazing characters, scenery, and over all engaging reading experience. Ms. Kay fits right into this grouping. Many times while reading I noticed how her writing style reminded me of J.R. Ward's. I was seriously impressed with the similarities. They both use amazing detail in constructing their fictional societies and you get a variety of scenes from different POV's that help shape the story. There is so much to absorb that after you've finished reading you feel like you've read 2 or 3 books instead of one.
I was definitely intrigued from the very beginning. I mean, 2 bad ass chicks with unusual & unique abilities fighting off the bad guys, protecting citizens and saving the day. What's not to love?! While I would occasionally think to myself, "Omg, what are you doing?! Run away!" most of the time I was totally on board with their badassery. (So what if that's not a word). The Lash Demons are an added bonus in all their hotness, especially Gunnar who opens Nicole's eyes to the supernatural world around them. Instead of hiding and retreating back into the human world Nicole is totally up for the challenge of fighting "evil" on a much bigger and badder scale. And boy do they have some seriously lethal enemies to deal with!
There were certain scenes that had me absolutely absorbed and others not so much, usually when the action slowed down. But over all it was an exciting, fast paced read and I'm definitely looking forward to the next installment!
Nicole Bonham has a special gift. She can alter the wind, creating disturbances in temperature and the surrounding environment. She has never understood where her gift came from, or its purpose. Having lost her parents at a young age, she has always felt a little out of place in the world. Still, anchored to the earth with her sisters, and their equally unusual talents, she has been attempting to live the life of a normal young woman. But as night falls, Nicole's interests are anything but normal. And as she and her sister, Brooke, are exploring the vast underbelly of Chicago's darkest nooks, she is unaware that she is being observed and pursued by the Lash Demon, Gunnar. A formidable alpha male, Gunnar finally makes his move to approach Nicole ... and her life will never be the same.
Wicked Wind offers up an incredibly well written tale, with a fresh perspective, and a whirlwind plot -- a brilliant paranormal tale, with a twist! Characters with depth and range filled the pages. Some were lovable, while others were loathsome, but all offered meaningful contributions to the story! And I loved the story! Gunnar epitomized the role of an alpha male. Shiny dark hair, crystal blue eyes... swoon! I loved this guy! And his protective nature was breathtaking. As for his female counterpart, Nicole, she was an ass-kicking female lead, with plenty of quirks and flaws, making her an awesome match for the fearsome and gorgeous Gunnar. A brilliant story! I loved this book, and can't wait for the next installment!
This was quite an intriguing read. The opening introduced us to the butt kicking heroines, sisters Nicole and Brooke, and the unfolding events from there just kept me riveted to the pages. I stayed up all night to read this and finished in just over five hours. The world building was also quite interesting. I didn't have any difficulty picturing the surroundings the characters found themselves in. This story took place on both Earth and the demon realm, Torth, in equal measure.
It's not often I come across stories where the heroine is almost equal to a badass alpha male, but I did feel that Nicole could hold her own, at least with the less dangerous foes in this story. I think as the series goes on, she'll receive more fight training (love the sparing sessions with Gunnar), and develop her powers more.
I enjoyed Nicole and Gunnar as a couple. Something else that was new to me was that there wasn't a long preamble about who or what they were. Gunnar pretty much got to the point very quickly, while Nicole took a little longer to come clean about everything, but in her defense, she had more to lose and played it smart. As their relationship developed they were surprisingly open with one another, and I loved that they supported each other. Gunnar was quite a sexy hero, from his looks down to his other assets. He was powerful and very protective.
The Watchers, made up of Gunnar, Kai, Rhys, Brenin and Raniero, were Lash demons. We got brief glimpses of each Watcher throughout the story, Kai and Raniero in particular which makes me think the next two books will be their story. I also have a niggling suspicion about Raniero's lost love, and I'm dying to find out if I'm right. I won't get into the Solsti because I don't want to give too much away.
As far as rest of the story, I wouldn't go so far as to say there was a massive info dump, but when it came to all the different (demon) species in this story, I did feel a little overwhelmed with all the names, especially trying to remember individuals; not knowing if they'd be important later or not. Here's a list of all the other creatures/characters mentioned (mostly for my benefit for the second book):
Lash demons: Gunnar, Kai, Rhys, Brenin and Raniero aka The Watchers
Rilan: Lash demon Elder.
Arawn: Leader of the Lash demons
Rosa: Powerful witch who aides Gunnar and Nicole.
Cale and Ashina: Not sure what Cale is, but Raniero is his mercenary. Not by choice. Ashina is/was Cale's daughter and Raniero's love interest until her father separated them.
Skell demons: Baddies. Incompetent and rather pathetic creatures. Aka Nothing-But-Trouble, according to Rhys.
Gar demons: No particular information on them. They were supposed to be a myth. They haven't existed in a millennia and were killed in a fierce battle with the Domu demons.
Deserati demons: Allies. Miranda often hooked up with Kai.
Ghazsul demons: Baddies. Tied closely to Gunnar's history.
Nymphs of Rivkin: Allies. Extremely sexual creatures. Their leader: Taszim and his wife, Larissa.
Maeron, Domu demon: Villain.
Xarrek, Domu demon: He wanted to achieve the sorcery level of a mage to become invincible. He perished in the Rivkin Forest where the nymphs collected his ashes.
There was a decent amount of bloody battles throughout the story, a nice show of Nicole's powers and a lot of sex. Although the sex was very hot, I felt it was a little too much that they seemed to outweigh the action. Also, this story had multiple POVs. They didn't bother me or detract from the story.
Overall, I was very much entertained and look forward to reading the next book in the series. The sweetest thing was seeing him struggle between wanting to shield her completely from any danger and allowing her to do what she was essentially her calling. I think as the series goes on and we meet the other sisters, the fellas will all go through the same thing as Gunnar – having to accept that their females don't need to be coddled but encouraged and supported. Another plus is that this book didn't end on a cliffhanger. I'm guessing that each book will have a new danger or a new villain to overcome so you will get a wrapped up story.
Favorite Moments:
The primal need to protect her filled him, taking over his senses. He vowed to keep her safe, no matter the cost to him. His life, though immortal, was expendable. Her life was extraordinary, a rare light brought into the world for the purpose of saving it.
~*~
Suddenly the most naughty thought popped unbidden into her head. She sucked in a breath.
“What?” He ran a finger down her uninjured arm.
Her cheeks burned. “I just wondered...can you...I mean, would it be possible for you to...have sex while you're in that state?”
He stared at her, eyebrows raised, before flipping her to her back and grinned wickedly. […]
She covered her eyes with her hand. He must think she was a complete pervert. “I'm sorry. That was inappropriate.”
I for one wouldn't mind seeing that scene ;)
Disclaimer: I received a review copy from the author for the purpose of an honest review.
For those of you that love paranormal, this is definitely a new series to try. This unexpected gem will engulf you in a world full of kick ass chicks, bad boy demons that will make you drool, and a battle between good and evil that has only just begun.
Nicole Bonham lives in Lincoln Park with her sister Brooke. After losing her parents to a car accident when she was small, she and her sisters have looked out for one another. After discovering their unique “talents” when they came of age, the women looked out for others as well. When others would come home from work and get ready for bed, Nicole and Brooke were out on the hunt for the street scum that would prey on unescorted women with intent to rob or rape. The two made it their mission to protect unsuspecting women but had no idea the dangers that they were putting themselves in each time they stepped into an alley to fight for justice. On one of those nights, Nicole had saved another young woman while out with her sister. She had also attracted the attention of a man she would soon get to know quite well.
Gunnar was not sure who the beauty was that crossed his path but he could feel her energy and knew there was something different about her. Was she Fae? He couldn’t quite grasp it but was determined to find out more. As a Lash demon, it was his job to protect others from the horrors that dwell amongst the humans and he wasn’t sure yet if this woman was friend or foe. Following the female to her home then to a club, he seizes the opportunity to get up close and personal on the dance floor. Instant attraction sizzles between them and the pair find themselves ready for action in a seductive sway of bodies entwined.
Unfortunately the steamy action is replaced with fight or flight mode when another woman’s scream is heard. Never one to leave a lady in need Gunnar quickly runs to the rescue but is helped by a mysterious breeze that interrupts the attackers efforts and aids in subduing him. Gunnar knew he was right. There was more to Nicole than meets the eye.
Gunnar asks Nicole about her power but she tries to deny until he reveals his true nature in an effort to gain her trust. Hoping to discover more about her, Gunnar requests that Nicole go home with him to meet the Elder of the Lash demons in his home. While apprehensive at first, it only takes one encounter with a few Skell demons and Nicole finds herself in Gunnar’s home. What she didn’t know, was that her life was about to change forever.
As Nicole’s true nature is discovered and her life’s purpose revealed, she finds herself in a different world where water and wood nymphs cater to guests with their seductive hospitality, ancient witches prophesize the future, vipers are not just snakes, and some birds may have two heads. The most important revelation; the Solsti are back and they only return when a great evil is approaching. Can Nicole live up to the role she has been given? Or will evil return from the depths to take over the human world? Nicole must find the culprit causing her existence as a Solsti and find herself in the process.
There is much to be said about an author that can bring a new twist to a good vs. evil plot. The premise relies on the idea that there is an evil unlike the world has ever known and it is about to unleash itself on the world. As a result, 4 mythical beings will return to fight the evil and save the Earth. Sharon Kay has taken good versus evil to a whole new level by intertwining creatures of the paranormal persuasion that are fresh and new and abundant. Whether characters encounter nymphs that truly live up to their name, vile demons that come in multiple shapes, colors and size, sexy demons that get scary protective of their females, or witches as old as dust, Sharon Kay keeps readers guessing as to what they will encounter next. What I love even more is that each creature plays a very specific role in the storyline to impact the outcome.
Now what would a paranormal romance be without the romance itself? Within this adventurous quest is a romance that is not just warming up, but blazing into nothing less than an inferno. Nicole and Gunnar have an instant attraction that builds to astronomical levels with each encounter. Whether Gunnar has Nicole half naked in the hall way at his home, causes wet dreams of them at a club, or takes her out of fierce possession, the pair is explosive and erotic in every way possible.
In addition to Gunnar and Nicole, the story hints of contract killers, heart breaking deals in the name of love, potential romances as well as past loves lost that are hoped to rekindle. That being said, the first installment of this series has reeled me in. I am anxious to see these relationships develop and these hardcore Alpha males brought to heel by the women that claim their hearts as they battle to save the human race and all others living among them.
Wicked Wind was a slightly different take on the paranormal world. With so many books out about Demons and so on, sometimes books feel the same. It’s up to the author to really create a world that’s different from the others, even if some of it is the same. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with this one. In the beginning I was slightly worried but things picked up, leaving me hooked to the end. Nicole and her sisters think of themselves as “special humans”. Meaning they have powers to control the elements. Each sister aligned with one element. Nicole’s element happens to be wind and her sister Brooke, water and so on. These two decide to take their gifts and fight the bad guys on the street after their 9-5 jobs. While out on one of their nightly crime stopping excursions, Nicole spots someone watching them. Gunnar, a Lash Demon, notices power emanating from these to woman on the street. He is confused because they are human. There is no trace of demon in them. He decides to hunt them down. Finding Nicole out at the club, Gunnar is completely overcome with lust for this beautiful human. He is intrigued in more than one way. He is on a mission to find out how she has power yet, is human. Gunnar then proceeds to spill the juicy details about the demons and their world. With Nicole, confused and feeling slightly crazy, she fights against listening to Gunnar. She refuses to believe all the things the Lash Demons have told her. She has finally discovered what she is. Of course, she’s not human. It seems she and her 4 sisters are very powerful and important. Unfortunately, refusing to accept the help and protection of the Lash Demons, sets in motion, a set of events that lead her and Gunnar to their fated destiny and each other. Traveling to different dimensions, fighting nasty demons and saving allies from attack, become Gunnar and Nicole’s adventure to find out the truth. One nasty demon is up to no good and it’s on the Lash and Nicole to put a stop to the unbalanced power. This book is packed with action, adventure, and romance. It has little bit of everything. The author did a good job with taking something normal and making it original. A world within a world was created. Demons are nothing new but they seemed different. I was drawn in and escaped to the world of Nicole and Gunnar. I loved the supporting characters, her sisters and his fellow brothers of the elite fighting team. This is just the first book in the series. I feel that there is to be many adventures and mysteries to solve. And we can’t forget the romance to blossom with other characters. Book #2 Wicked Waves, is about Brooke and Kai. I definitely will continue to follow this series. I rated this one 4 stars
**Book provided by the Author through PNR NaUBA group Author/Reader Exchange**
I loved this book. It had so many twists and turns and surprises! I always try to find something to compare books to for others to make it easier to decide if they'd be interested. The closest series would have to be the Immortals After Dark... there are immortals, mostly demons... mabye the Demonica series. It was one of those books that grabs you from the start and you just can't help but be pulled along for the ride. There's romance, a lot of fighting and quite a bit of surprises along to way.
We start off with Nicole and her sister Brooke. They have some pretty awesome powers. The book is about Nicole. Happily there'll be a second book with Brooke. Nicole "can manipulate air currents, make them stronger, change their direction, and cause them to move objects." In addition to that she's a pretty bad-ass fighter. She meets up with Gunnar and boy is that a hot meeting! Gunnar is a Lash demon. (kinda like the demon police) He's also a bad-ass fighter and has demonfire to boot. Nicole thought she was just a human freak but Gunnar thinks that she is more. He takes her to meet with all of his Lash demon buddies. BTW I love the guys names especially Kai and Rhys. A house full of hot demon hunks? Hell yes! So I don't want to give away more but let's just say there's lots of ups and downs and stuff you'd never guess at happening.
I thought Nicole was pretty awesome. She was totally not conceited even though she had reason to be. She was very cool and down to earth. Gunnar was just hotness personified. Their relationship itself was just hot. I guess this could be classified as erotica but most erotica doesn't have such a good story-line so I'd hate to do that to it. But yes, the sex scenes are pretty great. I love books like this where meeting each other turns both of their worlds upside down. I really enjoyed the book and am looking forward to seeing what happens with Brooke in the second book. I think this has the potential to be a great series.
If you like hot demons, hotter sex, paranormal romance, parallel worlds and kick-ass heroines this book is for you!
Favorite Quote: "I'm a Lash demon." "You? A demon?" she sputtered, sitting up fast. She knew he let her. "But you're not-" "Not what?" "Not...hideous. Deformed. Scaly." "My, you have a way with compliments,"he said dryly. "That'll keep me going all week, knowing I'm not hideous."
I got this book from the author, free of cost, in exchange of an honest review from my side.
Firstly I would like to thank Sharon Kay, author of Wicked Wind, for giving me this opportunity of reading and reviewing this wonderful book of hers.
This story is really A+, I loved the concept and the well though plot and unique story line. To me this story line is unique because here the author introduced two different dimensions which made the story very intriguing and totally swoon worthy and secondly we get a demon as our hero rather than a vampire or werewolf which have become a very common trend nowadays in YA paranormal romance novels.
Nicole was bad-ass and totally butt-kicking heroine whom I adored ad well as loved a lot. She is confident and mature and as she goes on exploring and learning about her gift of controlling wind (what a great gift, alas! I didn't get that gift) she becomes more and more flourished and developed rather than fear herself.
Gunnar is a heck of a demon, he is handsome, sexy and steamy hot and I think my views about vampires being the most hottest of all have to be reviewed as well because girls now demons are the 'in' thing.
The total concept of dual dimensions made this story a 5 starer for me and the way the author gave a vivid and lively description of this two dimensions really made the story believable and just like a dream come true.
I would like to appreciate the remarkable writing skill and style of the author and the use of simple yet skilled words really made the read a great and pleasurable experience.
The emotional whirlwind through which Nicole passed will grab you too and you'll be taken on this journey side by side with Nicole and all the other fabulous characters of this story.
The sparkling and totally sensational romantic encounters between Gunnar and Nicole left me speechless and breathless as well and their hot chemistry nearly blew me away!
The suspense is eerie with slow and killing revelations and the mystery is thick and totally unpredictable twists and turns will keep on surprising and shocking you through out the book. The action scenes are the cherry on top of chocolate cake and made the story more interesting and exciting.
All in all a great read and must for all paranormal romance fans, hope that you like it as much as I did. Hats off to Sharon for her excellent work and I'm totally anxious for book 2 and to know the next level of Nicole and Gunnar's journey.
I realize now that most of the books that I have been reading lately have been amazing, and I’ve loved every single one of them. Wicked Wind included. I guess I just get lucky with the ARC’s that I gain because this book is also being added to my favorite list. I’m super happy that there will be more books, and my thinking is that I have at least three more books to wait for! :) Wicked Wind was an amazing story based around Nicole who has the ability to work with air. Wicked Wind takes place in a weeks’ time and so much changes during this time for Nicole and I can’t help but smile just thinking back throughout this book. Growing up with a weird talent she always felt different and thought she would never fit in, but decided to help people with her talent anyways. This is the situation that leads her into dancing with a very good looking demon, Gunnar. While this book takes place between two different realms, you are introduced to many different characters and given just enough information to make you want more. All the men that are introduced you find yourself liking even though one may be rude at times, and you hope that they all get their happily ever afters. The ending of this book had me skimming the pages and I had to force myself to start back at the top and read each word. I just wanted to know that everything would work out for the best. I was pleased with the story that Sharon Kay has created and cannot wait for more on the Solsti Prophecy. All in all, my rating for this book is 5 stars. While I read this book quite fast I didn’t pick up on any major editing problems that would have decreased the star value. I do have one predication for the series: there are four Solsti who are connected and you know who three of them are right away in the beginning of the book. My prediction is that someone the fourth one will be Alina, and that she grew up fighting for the wrong side. I guess I will have to wait to see what happens…. Sharon Kay, congrats on such an amazing story and I cannot wait for Wicked Waves! :)
I have to say I was a little hesitant about reading this book. I am not a huge paranormal fan anymore. Though I believe this book may bring me back to the paranormal world!
“Great, the clubs are full of petite, tanned, artificially curvy women who probably made a habit of throwing themselves at you.”
Nicole has always felt out of place. She had a special talent where she can move air. Her sisters both have a special talents also. They have no idea why they can do these things and don't know who to ask. Their biological parents died when they were younger. Nicole and her sister Brooke, decide to put their powers to good use and defend the innocent. Little did they know that there were things that could detect them using their power. It just so happened they were spotted by Gunnar, a Lash Demon. She doesn't know what to believe anymore. All she knows is that her heart is telling her to trust him.
“First, I’m not the only male here without a shirt. But I am the only one you should be looking at.”
Gunnar is a Lash Demon who is part of the Warriors group. They go around and try to keep peace between the demons and make sure they aren't doing anything wrong. He was out patrolling when these Skell demons were randomly cutting humans, but not killing them. He noticed Nicole and her sister helping out a female. He instantly noticed that they had a special power, but had no idea what they were. He convinces her to go see his elder so they could find out what she was. He told her she was a Solsti and that there were three more like her. She now knows she isn't human and her purpose is to help protect everyone from a higher power than most have ever seen.
“God, he’s perfect. He may as well have been carved from granite and then come alive for her benefit.”
This book was really good. It kept me wanting to know more. I have some theories about what is going to happen with some of the characters and I cannot wait to read the next couple books in the series to see if I am right. Sharon Kay knows how to tell a story and keep the reader entertained and feeling like they are right there in the story. Well done!

Quote: “She wanted to kiss the hurt away, but knew from her own life that it would always be there. The sadness would remain, but it would exist next to new, buoyant memories. He had come through his own fiery trial as she had hers, not unscathed, but forged into something altogether different and stronger.”
Review: I won a copy of Wicked Wind and was able to read it for Sunshine and Mountains blog. Wicked Wind was interesting and different from the usual books that I read. I loved the characters and all their different powers. Nichole controls the wind. I think it’s pretty neat that she can control where the wind goes. I never would have thought someone would have that kind of power. There is a lot of action in this book and it had a good story line. Wicked Wind is the first in this series of books. I'm sure we will learn more in the coming books about the other characters introduced in this book. There was a lot of good chemistry in this book. I would give it a B+.
This book was quite good. I'm a fantasy person, so this paranormal romance was up my alley enough that I was willing to take a chance! I think your basis for novels definitely influences review, and for me, I quite enjoyed this book, even though, I'm not the biggest romance reader. The idea behind it interested me, and vaguely reminded me of some awesome airbending scenes from Avatar: The Last Airbender TV show, so I was drawn in at that idea.
The characters were great, a strong male and female. The descriptions of Nicole and Gunnar were quite good, detailed enough, but not overly so. The chemistry between them felt realistic and wasn't forced. It's a pretty steamy connection between them, but it reals pretty honest and real. Gunnar becomes quite the male hero in this novel, and he and Nicole has a pretty great adventure. Nicole is pretty badass, and that's nice to see in a romance!
The plot was interesting, a lot happened in about a week's time, so it's a pretty fast paced novel, and it kept me reading. There was a lot of suspense, and action, and it was a little edge of your seat for a bit, but that's good. A paranormal romance that doesn't neglect it's paranormal side is always a win for me. I've read so many romances classified like this that introduce something paranormal like, and then just head into the romance and don't get back to the other action! I liked that Sharon Kay kept us up on the paranormal action side of things as well! :)
The book is well written, I didn't really notice any grammatical errors, or issues that caused me to stop reading. It followed well and even though it has two dimensions it dealt with, the transitions were clear and I wasn't confused. The idea is unique, detailed, and kept me reading. I thought the ending was good, and I expect to see good things from the next books in this series! :)
** I was given a copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.
If you like paranormal romance this is a must read for you. I love pnr it's my favourite genre of book.
Nicole and her sisters have extra abilities but they don't know why, they have trained in martial arts too so know how take care of themselves. They put there skills to use by protecting others.
On one night out protecting others they are spotted by another, Gunnar, his a Lash Demon with black hair, a hot body and a sexy demeanour. He also recognises that Nicole is not human and needs protection, mainly his!
Gunnar is not alone either he comes with a band of hot sexy Demons all with there own personalities. I definitely took a liking to Kai, the bad boy looking forward to his book.
What I loved about this book, the characters Gunnar is an alpha male and wants to protect his woman, Nicole is a strong woman and the things that come out of her mouth are great, she says what she thinks. They're hot in the bedroom, Nicole holds her own in that area and Gunnar is in awe of her. I also loved Rivkin, land of the Nymphs, the things that happen there.....
The story was an amazing ride, lots of world building and I particularly like the story taking part in two realms really interesting take on things, they have gem phones powered by ley lines - love it!
As with all pnr the human or not so human accepts all things demon with ease, and fall in love in a matter of days, but were in lust before hand. There is adventure, sex and of course danger for our main characters.
In conclusion Wicked Wind is a spell binding world of demons, danger and love, add it to your reading list now.
I look forward to book 2 of this series.
I received an arc of this book via the author for an honest review
Since I love Paranormal Romances, I could not wait to get started reading Wicked Winds by Sharon Kay. At first, I had an idea in my mind of what the book was going to be about, but Kay completely shattered that thought. I absolutely fell in love with this book. This book was HOT!!!! Kay throws in a strong female lead with Nicole Bonham, your not so average female with the little secret of manipulating the wind. Along with her sister Brooke they tend to hit the streets looking for way to help defend the innocent. Along the way Nicole meets Gunnar, who happens to be a demon from another realm. He is on Earth to help protect it from other demons, when he by chance crosses paths with Nicole. Seeing that he has never met anyone like her, she intrigues him and he wants to know more about her, but he also finds that he has feelings for her that he has never felt before.
“Two women interceded in a fight between a beefy man and a diminutive young woman. It didn’t appear that they stumbled upon the scene unprepared; rather, it seemed that they were looking for it. Their speed and efficient grace were a marvel to watch; their martial skills unquestionable. But the jolt of power from the blond woman floored him. The lingering trace of it piqued his curiosity because he didn’t recognize it. She wasn’t a demon, vampire, or shifter.”
Of course throw in some other demons, a trip to another realm, and of course a hideous demon, who is bent of ruling all realms, and you have one amazing book. But considering that Nicole has other sisters and with the twists and turns in the book, Kay has left me wanting more. This is a great start to the beginning of a great series in my opinion.
Are you looking for an alpha male, with a little bit of demon, a female, who can take care of herself, literally? Well Wicked Wind is the book for you.
Nicole and her sisters, two of whom we know and one who we have yet to meet, have powers that they know nothing about. They use these powers to help innocent people. Little do they know they are the Solsti and have a greater purpose, some of which we find out in Wicked Wind. The use of their powers is how Nicole meets Gunnar. Nicole is this mega kick ass female who shows no fear and puts herself in danger but she “demon in shining armor” is there to protect her. The story takes place on earth and Torth, the demon world. Nicole meets different types of beings, much like herself but so different and she truly gets the chance to take a glimpse into who her sisters and herself may be. Gunnar knows she’s powerful but witnessed it when he was in harms way and again, she used the wind to protect him….***door opens into the love they have***
“Concentrating on her ability, she opened her heart to the all-consuming love she felt for Gunnar. She visualized their bond as a steel cable. Unbreakable…… Together, they would fight whatever hell was on its way…..Every cell in her body rallied as she drew on their combined strength……She envisioned the mist dissipating into nothingness. Not…gonna…let…you…win…”
Throughout the book you’ll witness the evils in the world that no one would believe existed and the struggle that Gunnar has to rid the world of this and also protect Nicole.
I give this book 5 stars. I can’t wait for book two, Wicked Wave, Brooke and Kai’s story. What evil will they face, will we see more of Nicole and Gunnar?
I love reading paranormal romances and let me just say this one doesn’t disappoint.
Wicked Wind by Sharon Kay starts off with you meeting Nicole. Nicole’s parents died when her and her sisters were young. Nicole has 2 sisters and they all have special gifts. Nicole’s gift is that she can manipulate the wind. All 3 haven’t been able to figure out why they were given/have these gifts or what they truly are. Are they human or maybe something different……
Nicole and her sister decide to use their gifts to protect the innocent. They go out at night and look for anyone who is in need of their help. They end up protecting a lot people from the criminals that roam the streets of Chicago at night. Well.....lets just say this doesn’t go unnoticed.
This is where we meet Gunner. Gunner is a Lash Demon. He senses Nicole’s power one night while she is using it to defend someone in trouble. Gunner is immediately drawn her. But she doesn’t know how to react to him after all he reveals about the world she thought she knew. This is where the story truly begins and it’s the beginning of a crazy adventure that you will definitely not want to miss.
Sharon Kay did an amazing job on this story. I couldn’t put it down until I got to the end! I had to know what was going to happen next. And the characters were written perfectly. I loved Gunner. (*Sigh*) He was the perfect mix in a hero for me. Also, the secondary characters were just as good. I cannot wait for all of their books!!
I definitely give this book 5 stars!! It is a must read and you WILL NOT but disappointed!!
This was a very unique paranormal romance that is full of passion, mystery and action. Nicole and her sisters have unique abilities that they have kept to themselves. Nicole has the ability to manipulate wind. They practice these abilities by stalking neighborhoods and intervening to stop crimes. A demon named Gunner spots them in action and follows Nicole out of curiosity. Eventually, with Gunner's help, Nicole finds out that she and her sisters are not human at all but Solsti. And, so begins the journey to discovering the reason why they exist while at the same time battling demons. As the story unfolds Nicole eventually goes with Gunner to the demon world in an effort to find answers. While in the demon world we are introduced some very interesting characters. The Nymphs were quite entertaining! Gunner and Nicole develop a strong passion for one another. If you're looking for a book that provides plenty of steamy time then you will like this one for sure. They had some trouble keeping their hands off of each other. (wink wink) There are plenty of paranormal romances out there but if you are looking for something different this is a good one to choose... especially if you are tired of the vampire theme. This is also book one of a series so there will be more to come! Oh, and I love the new cover! Great job on that... I made sure to switch to the new one when I saw it pop up.
I received a complimentary copy of this title from the author in exchange for a review.
This book is an excellent start to what I think will be an incredible series. Sharon Kay includes all of the paranormal/fantasy elements that I look for in a good book.
Gunnar, a Lash demon, who is responsible for maintaining the peace on Earth as well as other realms crosses paths with a "gifted" woman, Nicole, who turns out to be more than she seems. Growing up, Nicole knew she and her sisters had special gifts, but nothing could have prepared her for the reality of the world she was born into.
What I loved about this book was the passion and spark between Gunnar and Nicole. Their relationship is hot and fast-paced throughout the whole book, which keeps the reader wanting more. I enjoyed the variety of paranormal characters that the author included in this book and the alternate realm that we get a glimpse of.
I have already bought the next book in this series and I can't wait to find out what will happen with Nicole's sister Brooke and Kai. I would highly recommend this series to PNR/fantasy fans. I will definitely be buying the rest of this series and any other books from Sharon Kay.
Every once in a while, you come across a story you immediately feel a connection with; it just clicks. From the first chapter in Wicked Wind, I knew I was going to love it.
First, it has an extremely strong female lead...I'd love to have her power. Nicole and her sister prowl the dank and worst of Chicago's city streets, protecting those who need it. During one such patrol, she gains the attention of Gunnar, a Lash demon who is kind of like an immortal peace officer with attitude.
Gunnar isn't sure what kind of creature Nicole Bonham is, but he knows she isn't human...as she believes. The chemistry is instantaneous. The more time Gunnar spends with Nicole, the stronger their attraction and his protectiveness grow. When her true species is uncovered, it throws Nicole and Gunnar into a fight for their lives.
This was a wonderfully developed story. The characters, the world-building, and the plot all melded together to make a perfect new paranormal romance read. How could I not love a story with a hot alpha, powerhouse heroines, and the potential for so much more to come? I can't wait to see what happens next...
**I was provided with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review by the author**
I love this HAWT paranormal romance! It is a very steamy paranormal romance, with a twist on the paranormal. I mean I love my vampires and shape shifters but it's nice to see a different `world' being created in the words of a book!
I love the connection and dynamics between Nicole and Gunnar. Nicole is quite literally a strong independent woman who's just discovered she is not human. Gunner is very much nit human and is a Lash Demon who is on earth to help protect the humans from the other nasty creatures that are trying to create havoc on earth.
Gunnar wants nothing more but to lock Nicole away and protect her and Nicole, well Nicole is far from a delicate flower and doesn't appreciate being treated as one.
The book is certainly a page turner and has more than enough suspense to keep you on the edge of your seat.
There is comedy and suspense and well as a lot of steam in this book and it really does present the whole package.
“They fit together like two pieces of a puzzle, both incomplete until they snapped together.”
This book is an awesome start to the series. The world building was written so well that I found myself envisioning myself in their world. This book has suspense, adventure and a wonderful, sexy romance.
I haven't read many books about demons, but Gunnar is awesome. Gunner is someone you would want on your side and his protectiveness of Nichole was wonderful. The fight scenes were very well written and I found myself transported to their world.
Nicole was a beautiful person. She had so much compassion and was not afraid of anything, much to the annoyance of Gunnar.
I also enjoyed reading about Nicole's sisters and Gunnar's fellow demons and look forward to the next book in the series.
I received this book from the author for an honest review.
I'm not a fan of paranormal by choice but one of my fave author pimped this book and rave about one of the character, I just had to see what's she's gushing over.
I was hooked right from the start. Nothing sexier than a badass heroine and an alpha hero to match. I'm also not i to vampire stuff so this is just great.mi love their talents and love the sisterhood bonds.
Halfway through the book I was surprised by how hot the books getting I felt myself blushing reading it. The story overall is very intriguing and I love the characters and their adventures. I could picture everything vividly and that's a great thing reading paranormal when things doesn't make sense otherwise,
I'm glad the story have an HEA for Nicole and Gunnar although I know it's not the end of the story yet. I'm looking forward to read Brooke and Kai and can't wait for Raniero.
5 Stars! I read all through the night and woke up wanting to start reading again. I am so happy to have a book to gush about after a bit of a dry spell. I have to say, I love the paranormal lead men! They are so swoon worthy, haha! Seriously, really I mean it. And the lead female held her own, too. No simpering females here!
Gunnar and Nicole both acknowledge an intense attraction to one another that they act upon at once! How refreshing, none of this "Oh no, really, I shouldn't". They realize they can't keep their hands off of each other, so they don't. The result? Super hot passion, off the charts! This is the first book in a series, and I say, "bring them on!" Not only is it a steamy read, but a great story with well developed characters and believable parallel worlds. I loved it!
Whoa! This book is flipping awesome. I have been reading this book for awhile (not because it's bad, because I really didn't want to stop reading once I started, but my own book came out in the middle of reading it and I was busy. I would have finished in ONE sitting otherwise!) It's full to the brim of sex, romance, and action. It's a must read for any paranormal romance lover. The story grabs you from the get go and doesn't let go until the end. It flows seamlessly and involves your emotions. I really enjoyed Wicked Wind and I cannot wait to read the next installment. And who knew a demon could be SO sexy?!?! 5 solid stars for Wicked Wind!
