Ray Douglas Bradbury was an American author and screenwriter. One of the most celebrated 20th-century American writers, he worked in a variety of genres, including fantasy, science fiction, horror, mystery, and realistic fiction.

Bradbury is best known for his novel Fahrenheit 451 (1953) and his short-story collections The Martian Chronicles (1950), The Illustrated Man (1951), and The October Country (1955). Other notable works include the coming of age novel Dandelion Wine (1957), the dark fantasy Something Wicked This Way Comes (1962) and the fictionalized memoir Green Shadows, White Whale (1992). He also wrote and consulted on screenplays and television scripts, including Moby Dick and It Came from Outer Space. Many of his works were adapted into television and film productions as well as comic books. Bradbury also wrote poetry which has been published in several collections, such as They Have Not Seen the Stars (2001).

The New York Times called Bradbury "An author whose fanciful imagination, poetic prose, and mature understanding of human character have won him an international reputation" and "the writer most responsible for bringing modern science fiction into the literary mainstream".

There is some kind of magic in Bradbury's story-telling even when it comes to plain, short stories about ordinary people. And how bizarre it works! A sad story like "Calling Mexico" or "The leave-taking" can make you feel content with life and appreciating its mechanism.

Through his characters' thoughts and memories the author eventually convinces us that everything in life makes sense. Even death. Because it's simply part of the journey through time on a boat called "Farewell Summer".

Sevenler kavuşamadı ) Bradbury tarzında bir bitiş ile, kısacık, çok da sıradışı olmayan bir hikaye.

While Ray Bradbury is most well known for his science fiction and dystopian writings, I consider the Story of Love to be on par in quality and enchantment to his other works. This short story explores the constraints that society puts on love and recognizes that affections cannot always be pursued. A young, awkward boy falls in love with his teacher and the teacher also begins to develop feelings for her student. Out of love and respect for each other they choose not pursue a relationship though and the story ends with a heart-wrenching but peaceful ending of a love that never was.

For whatever reason, we as human often fall in love and crush on people regardless of age or social norms we know contradict our desires. While we may never know exactly why, the feelings are certainly tangible. I think middle schoolers are often associated with this misplaced infatuation, even if it comes from a well- meaning place. I think that it is important to talk about those feelings and explore them in depth to understand why instead of telling middle schoolers they are wrong or weird to have such thoughts. This text is an excellent way to open up these sorts of conversations about love, temperance, and self-control.

One way to engage students in this sort of self-analysis is to employ the writing strategy Kelly Gallagher calls what would have happened if... I would use this strategy in a whole group setting first to talk about what would have happened if the boy and his teacher pursued their relationship. After modeling the process for the students I would then turn them loose and have them create their own analysis of what would have happened if they pursued a friendship or relationship that may not have happened.

this is for the short story 'a story of love,' only, which i read as part of the collection 'the stories of...'

it's great. maybe my favorite non-sf story in the collection. it's sad & sweet without being saccharine or wimpy. some dreary miserable people will clutch their pearls at it now, no doubt. those people are your enemies.

I adored the writing style. I was moved by the depth of the stories. I delighted in the psychological introspection of human kind. In brief, the book is marvelous.

My favourites are Calling Mexico and The Town Where No One Got Off. I particularly like how the latter surprises with the conclusion that no matter how ordinary a person is, one always possesses a dark side, a very dark side. Whether explored or not, acknowledged or ignored, darkness is part of the person and it contributes to his extreme complexity.

This is a limited edition book containing a previously uncollected short story and two poems. The story is called The Love Affair and is the tale of a Martian who is inexorably drawn to an Earth woman he doesn't understand, even though he knows that contact with her will likely kill him. The edition I read was #207 of 300 and is signed by the author.
