Leaving it all behind, Laney and Oliver are looking forward to getting away from the troubles of “Treeville,” and finally beginning their forever. Unfortunately, Laney’s guardian angel and Oliver’s twin have other plans in mind.
Even so, after a wonderful, yet also terrifying few days together, Laney and Oliver are off to the capital where they will partake in Levi’s plans of persuading his love to join his world. Although enjoyable, and rather entertaining, Laney and Oliver must soon return home where anything can and will go wrong.
As if a psychotic angel and a crazy twin brother were not enough, Laney and her friends come to find that their previous troubles with witches, werewolves, and the Weslin siblings were nothing compared to what is coming. With many secrets into her life revealed, Laney must find it within herself to hold it together and make the right choices to help save the ones she loves.
With everyone’s futures hanging in the balance, will Laney and her friends be able to put a stop to a chain of events that could tear their world apart?

This has been an absolute awesome book, I LOVE these characters, the funny thing's that are put in throughout that the characters say or think had me lmao. Excellently written. This series had me at go and I will be dying for the next book. If you like vampire books these r must reads.
I will start by saying, WOW. I LOVED this book! And as always, I'm left wanting more.
This is a well rounded book, full of adventure, suspense and the drama that comes with an everyday teenage life.
In Cursed, we finally get a little taste of what Oliver's life is like when he's not with Laney. We get a glimpse into his job and the perks of being a BHV, as well as a taste of life before Laney with a small trip into his past.
We are also treated to some much needed comedy in the form of Carter. This book is not primarily narrated by Laney like it's predecessors. We are let into the minds of Oliver and Carter and it's quite comical at times, as well as helping us to understand parts of the story with more clarity. Most of the time I don't like it when more than one character narrate, but in this case it works beautifully.
This book opens up a world of possibilities for the future of Brookehaven, and I am eagerly awaiting the next book in this series.
Let me start by saying I am a huge fan of this series and the authors style so perhaps I went into this with my expectations too high. To be honest, during the first 30% of this book I was wondering if the author had been abducted by an imposter because the writing was just 'off'. Perhaps the author just woke from a nap or needed some time to get her mojo back or maybe it's a matter of taking Laney from Treeville makes Laney very boring indeed. It is not until Carter enters that the story comes alive and the quirky author we know and love reappears. I love Carter! His POV never fails entertain and even just his presents makes the other characters get some spunk. So when Oliver and Laney return to Treeville the fun starts to return.
Because it's been a while between books I was worried I would be lost so i was blown over when I turned to the first page and found a thorough recap of each character. Thank you Joann Martin scowles. Once I read each characters descriptions the first 3 books came flooding back to mind.
The "switch" at first I thought was comical and I wasn't sure I liked the direction the story was heading from it but soon after I seen the high drama side of it and loved it. I have to admit, although it's obvious I am team Carter I started to swoon over him and Oliver lost all his appeal for me!
Overall the second half of this book more than makes up or the dreary parts of this book and Brookehaven fans will eat it up I am sure. It will remain one of my favourite series and I hope to see a Brookehaven #5
I hope that we see book 5 soon. I enjoyed that the author took the time to put enough details that you could visualize what was happening. I hope to be reading another Brookhaven book soon.
This was different than I expected. First, there wasn't as much of Zane as I thought there would be. While it turns out he is the Weslins' cousin and nephew of their father (who is discovered was Laney's mom's angel) he only shows in the beginning after the bonding (Finally!) of Oliver and Laney and at the end as the pet of Cyrus, the only angel that's on the vampires' side. Mr. Weslin does say to Laney thanks to her mom he never has to go to Hell, but I'm thinking that's not quite accurate: if he is a fallen, then he's a demon, and therefore doesn't have a right to get back into God's graces...hmmm...
So Oliver finally bonded with Laney-Yay!! At least he has her now, only the rest of the book he's trying to keep her out of harm's way for other reasons, mainly b/c some pains in the butt just don't know when to quit. Witches are a problem. Trust is an issue, and for a while I actually thought Felix wasn't entirely on the side of good. I mean, he did let Zane loose and never really explained why. He has a ton of secrets and after hundreds of years is still keeping the poor Ms. Doctor Ambrose/Amber on the hook. I mean WTF is he waiting for, an engraved invitation?? Men...
The switch of Oliver's and Carter's bodies due to-you guess it- a curse-was a significant portion of the book, and I found myself confused as to who was who, but I guess that was the point. By "day 6" of the curse I was starting to get annoyed, but that made me feel like I knew what the characters were going through. It would be tedious and less than happy if someone I loved switched bodies with a friend with a thousand other threats going on.
What I didn't like was there were still a lot of unanswered questions. For example, Laney's grandfather isn't mentioned before this book, and he's only a small fraction of this one. He was also relatively easy to defeat all things considered... Laney still has no idea who, or what for that matter, she is. Her upper gums hurt and she thinks she might be growing fangs, but that only happens once. I'm pretty sure if she were actually starting to "turn" that might happen more often than once. No one ever really answers her when she asks a question, Amber's journals ask more questions than offer answers, and her friend Kiera turns into a first class pain in the rear.
I'm also on the fence about Oliver's brother, Oscar. On one hand he's the reason for half the mess and is a psychotic madman, on the other he saved Laney and everyone on the good side. So WTF Oscar? Are you bi-polar? His mate and child (Julz and Hayden) don't feature too prominently in this one, so I'm wondering where they fit in in the future.
This was a long one, and towards the end I had to remember what happened in the beginning since it was so different, but well worth the read. I hope book 5 ties up some loose ends.
Holy cow! My brain is still reeling. My heart felt like a heavy stone as I mentally wishing all will turn out well.It was heart wrenching I could hardly breathe. My mind was boggled by the situations they found themselves in.Do you know how many times I wanted to yell at Laney,ok so I might have really verbally expressed my frustration, cause I could see how the pieces of information about her family(especially her dad) and even sometime the lack of an answer but she wasn't getting it fast enough.I had to explain to my kids why I was fussing at my book. The other turn of events that exposed another part of her bloodline was surprising,I didn't see that coming.Joann does an incredible job of drawing you into the story. There in never a dull moment for our Brookehaven crew.Things get very interesting as more supernatural creatures are uncovered in "Treeville". Follow Laney as she tries to find some kind of "normal" with Oliver, which is easier said than done.Try as they may, trouble seems to follow wherever they go.Carter and Kiera are preparing for their wedding, which should be a happy time, but situations arise that complicate things. There were times I wanted to slap Kiera so being so self center and self absorbed that she couldn't see all the troubles going on in her friends' loves. They face the most difficult situation that may prove to be their undoing. Can they find a solution before this problem becomes permanent?
Finally Oliver and Laney get some time alone together. I will say this one has a TON going on – there is a lot of action and mystery – a little too much? I think it shows there are many areas in the story that we have been involved in, dealing with Oscar and Kiera, just to name a few and this book is pivotal to bring them together. When I’m reading in this series, I can picture myself in the apartment seeing all of this unfold. We learn quite a bit about some of the stuff in Carter’s head. This book is written in several POV as you move through the chapters, you need to make sure to pay attention, but we needed all of the POV to move through when you see what all is unfolding. I was a little confused sometimes when inside Laney’s head as she deals with Carter and Oliver or maybe it’s Oliver and Carter, you’ll see. But I did like being in Carter’s head a bit, and again, definitely some intriguing things there. Any time you blend POV in one book some people love it and some hate it, truly I usually don’t mind it, so I thought it was a great part of this book.
I’m really interested to see where things are going with Oscar in the future. I have a sudden soft spot for him now and I think Oliver does too. Looking forward to the next book. Well done Sowles, well done
Omg.. This book was soooo good, I kind of ditch all new year day activities & completed the book. I absolutely loved the relationship that developed btw Oliver & Carter & Carter is just too funny. And ms Kiera, I just wanted to choke her sometimes, just kidding, but at times boy did she surprise me. Anywho, this book did not disappoint at all, it was so exciting, I felt like I was actually there on the adventure with them, it was chills & thrills throughout. I can't wait to see what happens with Levi, he was pretty funny too. To sum this book up in one word awesome
Young Adult readers will enjoy the lore and lure of the Brookhaven Vampires series. CURSED is the fourth installment of the series by Sowles where she tells the tale from the POV by switched identities of two major characters and Laney. At first I found switching back and forth between multiple POVs a little annoying, but as I became entranced in the tale, I began to follow the sequence of events as Sowles reveals a fast-paced rollercoaster ride. I definitely recommend that previous books in the BHV series be read prior to the read. Enjoy the ride. -g
It seemed to take a while to get to the "curse," like half the book. But that's okay, I love Laney and her hot vampire boyfriend Oliver. But the lure for me is Felix!! Love me a big beefy, powerful vampire! I do hope that in the next book, Laney straightens her spine and demands some answers to all the secrets that surrounds her life. She needs to become a vampire and start kicking some ass!! This is s Goodread!!
This was a good book full of YA supernatural drama. It took me a while to finish this one. I was getting tired of all the new situations and just really wanted an ending for Laney and Oliver. I have come to find out there are many more books to come in this series. I can't fairly judge this book because I'm not a YA lover. I'm sure if you are into YA and paranormal, you will really love this series.
Back on track. This book makes the others worth it....except for maybe 3.5 (but again my personal opinion). It appears to be a really long series. I thought at first that as the books progressed they would be about other couples. Although others are brought into the storyline it still is mainly centered around Delaney. That history is developing. It's really slow & some things are a little drawn out, but the storyline does get my attention .
Loved this book!!!!!! I have always had a thing for vampires. I was addicted, when I wasn't reading I was thinking about reading. I just couldn't get the story out of my head. My favorite supernatural series. This book was my favorite of the series. I actually sat on the couch and read for 6 hours, I just could not put it down. If you like vampires, you will love this series.
OMG!!! This is my favorite book out of the whole series!! I loved Cursed!! Laney and Oliver's relationship has grown so much in this book! Joann done a fantastic job! I found myself wishing I was Laney more than once... If you haven't read The Brookehaven Vampires you need to!! I can't wait for Book 5!
I absolutely loved this story and can't wait for the next one. I was on an emotional rollercoaster with Laney during the body switch and was on the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen. I can't wait for Laney and Oliver to finally have their happily ever after.
Overall, a bit drawn out, especially in the first half of the book. I'm glad that the swap was resolved by the end & am looking forward to discovering more about Oscar & Laney's family. Hopefully, the next book won't take as long to come out.
Absolutely loved this latest installment of the BHV series. These books keep getting better and better with more twists and turns in each installment. I hope the author does not keep us waiting for too long for the next book.
I really like this series but this book I don't know I just a hard time staying focused. I really want the next book. Cursed just got real interesting toward the end.
That was a very good ending to the Brookhaven Vampires series. It kept me entertained as well as in suspense. I hope there is another book in the making.
