Master of suspense and bone-chilling terror, Robert W. Walker, BS and MS in English Education, Northwestern University, has penned 44 novels and has taught language and writing for over 25 years. Showing no signs of slowing down, he is currently juggling not one but three new series ideas, and has completed a film script and a TV treatment. Having grown up in Chicago and having been born in the shadow of the Shiloh battlefield, near Corinth, Mississippi, Walker has two writing traditions to uphold--the Windy City one and the Southern one--all of which makes him uniquely suited to write City for Ransom and its sequels, Shadows in White City and City of the Absent. His Dead On will be published in July 2009. Walker is currently working on a new romantic-suspense-historical-mainstream novel, titled Children of Salem. In 2003 and 2004 Walker saw an unprecedented seven novels released on the "unsuspecting public," as he puts it. Final Edge, Grave Instinct, and Absolute Instinct were published in 2004. City of the Absent debuted in 2008 from Avon. Walker lives in Charleston, West Virginia.

It quite certain on this book. Lots to like about it but also a lot I didn’t. Some parts seemed to go on a bit to long and became boring because of it. Will read another to see how it shapes up.

Walker introduces a character who you just feel for -- a guy who has been through a lot and tries to pick up, in some sense, where he left off. The two main characters bring you through the minds of criminals in this action-packed story. Parts of the book become a little predictable -- or so you would think. Walker doesn't just take you down the seemingly obvious path in this book.

The story was good, but the editing was terrible -- perhaps that's an issue of the Kindle edition. Quotation marks were off all over the place, weird characters found their way into the middle of sentences, paragraph breaks were missing, etc. I don't fault Walker with that. However, I would urge that the Kindle edition be reviewed to resolve these issues. It definitely made it difficult to read.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys police thrillers.

This book starts out a little slow for me but by chapter 12 I started getting antsy to know what Stonecoat and Dr. Sanger would do with the case. Walker had me reeled in with the way he made me think that Stonecoat didn’t want to take the chance but with Sanger’s pursuit, he was all in. It was like she was just pulling him along. Both characters had a love-hate persona for each other. Throughout the book Walker puts in all kinds of twist and turns making it a true suspense novel. After reading this, I have found a new suspense author to add to my favorites.

Brilliant. Normally I have a murder mystery figured out before the end of the book. I honestly had no idea who was murdering people until the last chapters. BUT... Why oh why did the author leave the relationship between the two main characters unfinished? I want to know if they end up together. Good job, Robert W. Walker now I have to go see what other books you published to see if there is a book after this one that tells me what happens between Lucas and Meredyth!

Better than I expected

I normally don't write reviews, but I feel this author has a strong talent for capturing his reader. They story line was interesting and kept my interest. My only dislike was the too wordy descriptions of things like his medical files and such. His characters come alive in print so the reader immediately feels as though they are right in front of them. I look forward to more books with Lucas Stonecoat.

A quick read, easy to figure out at the end, but kept you guessing in the middle. A bit too much of the brooding, broken figure in Lucas Stonecoat. Hopefully he is less so in the next book in the series.

Misused words, formatting off in many places, (might have been caused from converting), weak story and weaker characters. Too much was unbelievable and the characters were as wishy washy as shapeshifters. There might be a good story in it, but it still needs a lot of work.

Had not read any of his novels for a couple of years. Have no idea why, since this was another excellent book. Thriller from beginning to end with a unpredictable ending. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
