Corruption. Deception. Betrayal. Violence. Welcome to New Melbourne. Welcome to a place where trust is a luxury few can afford and where power is the greatest currency. Welcome to the world of the Judicial Enforcers, agents of the Courts, a well trained division of men and women who bring in the worst criminals, dig into the darkest corners and they don’t need a warrant to do it. Welcome to the world of Michael Varen, the greatest Enforcer of them all. When an extortion case explodes into a conspiracy that threatens death to anyone who gets too close, Varen must take a dangerous course of action that he could never have imagined, and from which there is no turning back... Want action, mystery, romance and a bodycount? Snowblind delivers!
Since childhood, Andrew T Shapter has enjoyed both the reading of stories and the telling of them. However, it was only when house-bound and recovering from an injury that Andrew was able to finally write down in detail the story and character ideas that had been floating about in his imagination for so long. The story was 'Snowblind' and that character was Michael Varen. Within months of completion, 'Snowblind' was independently published and slowly began appearing in local and on-line bookstores. With its sharp writing style, intricate plots and strong characters, 'The Michael Varen Saga' has found a growing fan-base, particularly with the release of book 2, 'Varen: Nightfall', and 'Snowblind' having been shortlisted (final 4) for the Southern Readers & Writers Festival Peoples Choice Award 2015. Andrew lives in South Australia with his partner Rebecca and their daughter. Book 3 is in pre-production...
This novel is set in the near future after some incursion that is not fully explained. We are in New Melbourne, and are introduced to a whole swathe of characters in the first few chapters. But I was captured by the strong main characters and for the last two thirds of the book I could not put it down without wanting to pick it up again to read more. I may never have found this author without the People's Choice Awards but will be on the lookout for #2 now.
This is a futuristic story about life in ‘New Melbourne’ where enforcers are like super police with power to do ‘whatever’ to reduce crime and punish and arrest the criminals. As it seems obvious (in this future) that this system is not working, I am amazed at why a future society is silly enough to persevere with it! The story is inane, the language clumsy and the characters ridiculously unbelievable with about as much depth as a slice of rice paper. Their actions suggest they are as bad, if not worse, than the criminal element they chase. The ‘novel’ and I use the word very loosely here, is basically a graphic comic without the pictures. I find it incredible that rubbish like this has actually ever been published. Not worthy in any way for 'any' stars.
