Christmas is right around the corner, and Stormy Morgan is ready to celebrate for the first time in years. She’s been dreaming of one thing…Shadow Hills’ infamous Christmas festival.
There’s just one little problem.
When helping her new friend Easton pick out clothes in the thrift store, Stormy discovers the owner is missing. What’s worse, it looks as if there was a struggle in the back room. What happened to the married mother of one?
Stormy gets her boyfriend Hunter Ryan involved and they start searching. The only thing they can ascertain with any certainty is that there’s a hint of magic pulsing around the town, and maybe it has something to do with the disappearance. Stormy has her hands full with gnome shifters and her old high school nemesis, so a missing person’s case isn’t something she’s looking forward to. She has no choice but to dig, though. Her conscious won’t allow the alternative.
Stormy might be new at the magic contest, but she understands winning. When another person disappears, she realizes she’s playing the wrong game. In a world where fire rules, cold is about to claim them all. Can Stormy win? She’s about to find out. Come along for the ride.
When I was a kid, I was torn between whether or not I was going to grow up and be the Incredible Hulk or Wonder Woman. I flirted with being a Jedi Knight for awhile, but I wasn't up for the intense travel associated with the gig. In my teens, I settled on being a writer -- although I had no idea the effort that would entail. Not only am I a writer now, but I'm a writer in several different mediums. I'm a longtime newspaper reporter, an avid reader and a voracious science fiction fanatic.
I love the Stormy books my favourite character are Grandpa and Grandma, I just enjoy the way This author has of creating bad tempered, eccentric but loveable characters, Aunt Tillie is the perfect example. The Winchesters also appear regularly in this series, so another plus for me. Hunter is my favourite out of all the make leads (sorry Landon) I think it's his difficult childhood that makes me feel for him. Stormy, as we all know is a witch who has only just manifested her powers, she is from an old and deadly line of witches that were thought to be no more and from the beginning when she first returned home magical enemies have been trying to kill her before her magic fully manifests. On the plus side Stormy has Bay Winchester as her mentor (along with the rest of her family) and Scout (from the Spells Angels series) so she has some really strong support then there's Easton her cat familiar, who turns out to be more than he appears and Sebastian her best friend. My favourites though are Grandpa and Grandma I especially love the scenes set in the Two Brooms grill where Stormy works as a waitress and Grandpa works the grill. I can always count on these books to put a smile on my face....................
Might the ending perhaps be in sight for this series? I feel like it's not only run out of steam - the author seems to be out of ideas too.
This instalment made me wonder why I bother checking back in with Stormy and Hunter. In this book, they gave me the same feeling as reading the Facebook posts of acquaintances that once used to be my friends, but now have grown into such boring, standard 1A model adults it's downright depressing to read their "news" about mundane happenings, minor squabbles, and (constantly) whiney complaints.
The situation with Weston, the gnome-shifter that used to be a cat, is on his second transition into Most Annoying Character On The Planet. I mean, it's the same character, but every variation of him has a completely new way of being ridiculously annoying.
He might not be an actual A-hole, but so far, he's done nothing but act like an A-hole and even less to prove he's not an A-hole, so... Uhm. He's horrible, ok? To me, he's frankly a liability on the story.
It's book 8 and absolutely NO ONE even knows WTF a gnome-shifter actually is! By now, I'm suspecting the author doesn't know either and just makes things up as she goes while deeply regretting ever creating the character to begin with.
The fact that there's another gnome-shifter, named Easton, makes me wonder if it's some sort of Wicked Witch of the West/East reference, but so far that's gone absolutely nowhere.
I've seen snails keep up a better pace than this. Honestly.
I'm very, very fond of the narrator and how she tells these books, but if book 9 doesn't catch my imagination by at least some degree, I suspect I might abandon this series for good.
I'm rather tired of Stormy and Hunter going about their domestic doings while (still!) arguing over money and Stormy (still!) not getting over the fact that her second book flopped and (still!) not really bothering to learn how to control her bloody magic in some manner or fashion that I think would be appropriate when you're supposed to be as powerful as she is.
The mystery in this book was rather tired too - until the face-off towards the end where there suddenly was a glimmer of real energy and creativity infused for what felt like the first time in this particular book.
I found the villain and their motives had a lot of potential to be interesting. They certainly were very evil and elaborated, but the ending left me a little bit ... "meh" (It's probably a bad thing I wished something really evil would happen to Monica. Let's call it disappointment and be done with that analysis.)
Either way, I hope book 9 is better, because this one felt like it was running on coffee fumes.
I get that Stormy's life is hard and bug changes have happened- but she really whines about everything. Her best friend is annoyed she hasn't been communicating? Complains about how much it isn't fair. Hunter is talking to his ex? She knows he loves her but complains about it.
The twist was good. Easton is great. Stormy is meh
Great read! Of course it's no surprise to me, because Lee always comes through when I am looking to read something that captivates me and also has some magic thrown in for good measure.
Stormy Morgan is a hellcat witch and what that particular type of witch is is one that wields fire magic. There is a woman (Maggie) missing and signs of a struggle are shown in her thrift shop. Stormy and her used-to-be-a-cat familiar and roommate, Easton are the two to discover the absence.
The more she digs into the disappearance the more questions she has and there lies the possibility the abduction has to do with Stormy as a witch and doesn’t have anything to do with the missing woman at all.
And then Sebastian, Stormy’s bff is shunning her when he finds out Easton is her roommate… extremely HOT roommate. For the past 2 weeks. And she didn’t even tell him! So Stormy is up in arms over this because she hates that Sebastian is upset with her. She just hasn’t known how to bring up the subject that her pet cat is now human!
And what’s up with Phoebe and why is she acting cagier than normal toward Stormy? And how in the heck is Stormy supposed to deal with and process Phoebe’s behavior toward her? I tell ya, it’s crazy what Stormy discovers! Well, maybe not too crazy. Maybe Phoebe is the one who took Maggie. It wouldn’t be too far out of the realm of possibilities.
Bay Winchester and Tillie, along with their entourage make a short appearance and Tillie is up to her usual antics toward Mrs. Little.
Hunter is still head over heels in love with Stormy and she’s still feeling guilty over “stealing” Monica’s boyfriend. She can’t seem to get over what she did to her and can’t forgive herself. But it’s kinda hard forgetting and forgiving when people like Phoebe and Celeste continuously paint Stormy as the villain.
Well, everything works out in the end and there is only one death, so that’s good. But the death was of someone who isn’t very nice at all. In fact, the person aims to kill Stormy. So, there’s that.
But, it’s Christmastime and Stormy’s favorite time of year. With all the surrounding drama with Stormy in the center, it’s difficult for her to have the holiday spirit, but Hunter sure helps and brings up a very sweet topic that is sure to change everyone’s lives.
Next is book 9 "Chilled to the Bone" in A Two Broomsticks Gas & Grill Witch Cozy Mystery series. However, unfortunately we'll all have to wait until June 2024 for its release. Darn!
I wonder how many books in between now and then I'll have read. Well, next for me is a book by Emma Ainsley and it is called "Sugar Known Better" book 35 in Raised and Glazed Cozy Mysteries series. I always look forward to Ainsley's newest release in this series. Something unfortunate about them though is that they are usually pretty short at less than 100 pages. Sigh.
Stormy Morgan lives in the apartment above her family’s restaurant with her boyfriend Hunter. Stormy is a writer who lost her book deal and returned home to sort out her life and found it again, in her hometown.
While it sounds dull as dishwater, this is one feisty gal who lives in witchy family and in a semi magical town (the humans have no idea there are magicals on the down low) so there is always drama and hilarious highjinks. And murderous mayhem.
Normal life derails slightly when Stormy’s cat former Krankle (from a previous book) has gone from cat form to now human and is named Easton. A former gnome shifter, Easton is making waves in his pretttttty human form and is supposedly a magical protector for Stormy. Mostly Easton annoys both Stormy and Hunter and whips the local gals into a hunting frenzy since he is “new” to town, single, and desirable.
Normal life derails completely when Stormy takes Easton out shopping at the local thrift store and while they are there, Maggie, store owner liked by all he locals, suddenly goes missing. Even more disturbing, days later, another local woman goes missing as well.
The villain at the end though, is one heck of a surprise and seriously, WHAT a surprise!
Throw in sudden visits from the always zany and zippy Winchester witches Bay and her crazzzzzy Aunt Tillie in a nearby town and it is a cozy mystery hoot and a half worthy of a novel - excellent story, warm lovable and likable characters and an absolutely worthwhile read.
Got tired of the constant friction and arguing between Easton and Hunter. Stopped at 21%.

extraordinarily entertaining paranormal cozy mystery series
This is an extraordinarily entertaining paranormal cozy mystery series. Great cast of characters and an entertaining storyline. Young woman who went off and left her small town to become an author had a hit book and then her second book failed and eventually she ended up moving back to her small town and getting a job at her family restaurant. She got back together with her high school boyfriend and shortly after arriving back home something happened. She had magical powers that were awakened and she found up that she was a type of witch. A hellcat witch. The last hellcat witch was her great grandmother and there has not been any sense. Now there are forces out trying to intercede one way or the other in her life. This series takes place in a magical world includes the Winchester family and the Spells angels with all three towns pretty close to each other. They end up running across each other‘s pass on pretty regular occasion. Winchester witches are helping our main character learn and use her powers. This time someone ends up missing and the adventure begins. Read on and see what happens where it leads and who all is involved. All of the series in this magical world are extraordinary and spectacular. Do not miss any of them.
Look... I love this series, but I have issues with Stormy. She never seems to remember she can do certain things, like a locator spell. She's supposed to be training with the Winchesters, so most of her basic training should be forefront in her mind, like the simple locator spell she's been able to do since the first book.
She never seems to want to flex the muscle of her abilities, like trying to determine if someone in the room has magical powers. She just sort of sits there like a lump most of the time until something happens and she has to act out of instinct.
I know she's only in her late 20's and she's had some disappointments in life, but this girl just waits for things to happens instead of taking a proactive stance. She should be learning what she can do. She should be working to make sure she's flexing her magical muscle enough to have control over it and make it work for her when she can. Unless its in a book from another series, she seems to just wain in these.
I'm hoping she and Hunter have kids in the future and they are little Hellcats that she has to learn to control, like the new baby in the Wicked Witched of the Midwest. Not only is he a boy, but a powerful boy.
Easton is driving Stormy and Hunter, crazy borrowing clothes and dropping into their bedroom at inappropriate times... bonus, he's no longer crapping in Hunter's shoes, but things are getting tense!
A trip to the thrift store to buy jeans and flannels, however, leads to another mystery when Maggie the owner disappears... the back room is a mess, but there are no real clues to where Maggie could be or whether she's alive or dead.
With a winter festival and plenty of mistletoe hanging around Hunter's fan club seems to be getting more and more frustrated as he and Stormy try to kiss under every sprig but the investigation is going nowhere and it's not until a second disappearance that any headway will be made...
As always, we visit with the Winchester witches and catch up on Tillie's antics, although Stormy settles the situation with minimal assistance as she's beginning to master her skills...
Although, technically, you don't have to read the other seven books in this series first to read this one, you know you're missing out on a lot of stuff. There are references to things in other books that affect this story--like Stormy's relationship with the Winchesters...and Easton's being a cat.
I liked the story overall... and for me, that's saying something because I've never really been a fan of cozy mysteries. I kinda figured out whodunnit early on, but not the why...so there was some predictability, but it wasn't too simplistic.
I would've liked a little more romance in this. Not necessarily "steam," but Hunter and Stormy felt more like roommates and buddies than a couple to me.
This did pique my curiosity, so I may go back to read the other books in order.
Stormi Morgan continues to struggle with using magic as a first answer instead of the last answer. But when a mother goes missing, and then her mortal enemy goes missing, stormy knows that there is something very wrong foot. So many questions have remained unanswered about what a Hellcat is and how the Gnome Shifter she found fits together with her life. The combination of instinct and training, she learns how to use what she knows to get answers and to make the hard decisions. The side story of her, Hunter, Sebastian, and Easton just takes the story to a beautiful place
I've read just about every book of every series and trying to make them last before I run out and have to wait for the next book every book has everything you need love laughter mystery and more love all the characters and their personalities even those that are irritating and driven me mad I love to hate them so if you haven't read any of Amanda M Lee books then get to it you won't be disappointed and in for a magical ride!
This book should be a 3.5, but I rounded up. The biggest issue is that the "villain" as Stormy refers to them, is blindingly obvious from early on in the story. There was also one other obvious action that wasn't taken until pointed out by Bay Winchester late in the story. Things like this are unlike Amanda Lee and this series. Stormy is struggling and so is her story. It ends, though, on a brighter note that gives hope for the next in the series.
Who else is coming after Stormy? She is the last of her king and there is a faction who don't want her to come into her powers. They can not stop her. She has love and friendship on her side and a familiar that used to be a cat. Krankle/Easton, we were wondering where his loyalty lies. He proved they are with Stormy. We got a proposal and a happy Christmas. On to the next adventure.💚💙
The twists and turns in this book of the series are interesting to say the least. As always I will never give anything away, you'll have to read it yourself but I will say that it's worth reading. The characters are really evolving and growing in unexpected ways. As always Amanda brings the characters to life while plotting a story worth reading.
I love Stormy, she’s one of my favourite characters by this author and probably my favourite who isn’t in the Winchester books (although they do frequently crossover which is amazing) I really enjoyed the story in this one although I can’t stand Phoebe and really think Monica needs to get over it. Love the way Stormy and Hunters relationship is developing too. Enjoying Weston a lot more now and I’m not missing his cat form so much.
These books are so good. The writing is witty. The characters are too fun. But Stormy was so bloody whiny and obnoxious in this book I wanted someone to smack her. No man would tolerate debbie downer whiny persona. She would have no friends. Outside of how obnoxious she was in this book- I loved the writing and story. I truly hope the rest of the series Stormy isn’t as obnoxious.
Stormy goes to get Easton some pants at the trift store. When the try to pay, Maggie is not in the store and the chair in the back room is on the floor and the area is disturbed. She calls Hunter and the mystery starts...
Fast enjoyable read, didn't figure out the villain until they revealed themselves.
A great book! I love the interaction between characters from other series. I loved the ending and am eager to learn more about Stormy's cat!! The characters are adorable for the most part and the story is just enough to keep you guessing without getting too stressed out. I highly recommend this series and this Author.
The characters of Stormy & Hunter are so cute. Storm's grandfather is hysterical and the Winchester's are always a fun and hysterical read. This book had several interesting changes. The evil villain I doubt anyone guess until right before they are revealed. A fun page turning read.
I love this book and I love Ms. Lee's excellent sense of humor!! I have never laughed so much. Every character she creates is my favorite. Her stories flow easily and keep you entertained. I never felt like there was a lull in the story or a lot of unnecessary filler. She is a very gifted and creative author. You won't be sorry to buy this book.
While nobody can dispute the excellence of this author’s work, this heroine this time came dangerously close to “too stupid to live”. This is an aspect of cozy mysteries that really puts me off. So, I needed to know where the plot was heading (5 stars) but really do not like Stormy much at all. Let’s just say that it does not resonate with me.
Now that Easton has turned from cat to person, things are uncomfortable in the apartment. Even with his own bedroom, that is too much togetherness for Stormy and Hunter. A business woman goes mssing. Suddenly Stormy's nemesis Phoebe goes missing and events take a turn as they discover there are others hunting Stormy.
This series has all my favorite characters. Needless to say, it is well written and full of magic, mystery, romance and fun. I’m looking forward to the new adventures that await Story and her friends. Thank you Amanda Lee for continuing to entertain us with your written words.
This was another fun book in the two broomsticks series. I enjoy the crossover with the wicked witches. The characters are fun and the mystery is usually pretty good. It’s sad that Stormy is written as such a slow learner. Hopefully it won’t stay that way. The ending was pretty good.
Stormy is growing personally and magically. Suspense, magic, love, friends, and family make this series a great one to read. Love the intertwining of a few other favorite characters.
Always a wonderful story by this author. Her characters are so strong and interesting with interactions between other series resulting in fun experiences for the reader.
