Grandma Eunice's old house has a secret, and it's buried in her backyard. When Malcolm and Dandy uncover an old soda bottle from the 1939 World's Fair, they're sure there's something inside. But they didn't count on it being a bothersome ghost that likes to squirt them with glop. Can Malcolm and Dandy find a way send this soda jerk on its way? I'm the author of literally (get it) dozens of books for children.
Born in Killeen, Texas on a cold January day in 1954. My family moved around a lot, allowing me to, over the years, live on a farm, in an historic home and always near rivers or bayous. My playthings were hula-hoops, old typewriters and a wooden leg named Charlie. (Yep, you read that right.) If you want a true glimpse of my childhood dreams, read my novel, Man in the Moon. The character Janine allows you inside my young mixed-up mind.
I’ve lived most of my life in Houston and still live there today. You’ll find me here reading, writing and smiling.
This is a fast read, fun, and entertaining book which will attract both boys and girls. The vocabulary is simple, the print is large and there are plenty of pictures to entice lower readers. The content is perfect for 2nd-5th grade students. At the beginning of the story mom says the family is going to clean out Grandma Eunice's childhood house. Cocoa and Malcolm are not looking forward to this fun filled event and can't imagine what could be worth keeping in an old house that no one has lived in in fifty years. Malcolm invites his best friend, Dandy, to go along so he won't be too bored. The adventure begins when they arrive at the rickety old house and Grandma Eunice, who is a real character, hops out of her wheelchair and scales up the porch, then asks Malcolm to hand her wheelchair to her. He questions the need for the wheelchair and Grandma Eunice tells him, "I need it more than you do. I've told you before your mother thinks I'm one banana short of a bunch, so I'm playing along." From that point on you cannot put this book down. Grandma has all kinds of treasures hidden in this house including a mailbox full of goodies that she buried in 1939! When the mailbox is unearthed Grandma delves into the mailbox and divvies out the goodies inside including a corked bottle that she gives to Malcolm. The bottle came from the 1939 Worlds Fair and ooozes this strange green goop. Malcolm, being interested in ghosts, recognizes the green goop as being "ectoplasma", something that ghosts emmit. For the rest of the scoop ytou will have to res "Plop" and find out the ending! This is a great book and I look forward to including it and others in the series in my collection.
