Loyalty Deserved

Rate this book
Dear Author,
A moment of inattention and I found myself in the hands of my enemy. I was captured, restrained, interrogated for information I don’t even have. No one is coming for me; I knew that without his taunts. But if he thinks I’ll surrender, he has another thing coming.

Photo Description:
A young man with neatly trimmed brown hair, thick eyebrows, and piercing hazel eyes stares at the camera, looking determined. His torso is bare except for leather restraints surrounding his neck and wrists. A rope is wrapped around his wrists several times and through a ring on the leather cuffs, and holds his hands suspended next to his head.

This story was written as a part of the M/M Romance Group's "Love Has No Boundaries" event. Group members were asked to write a story prompt inspired by a photo of their choice. Authors of the group selected a photo and prompt that spoke to them and wrote a short story.

Kathryn Sparrow has had stories spinning around in her head her whole life and finally decided it was time to write them down. After working twenty years in the Software Industry, she has left the engineering world to be a chauffeur mom (because she doesn't really get to stay-at-home.) She lives with her fantastic, geek husband and her two adorable, sometimes infuriating daughters, who are too smart for their Mommy’s own good. If she had spare time she would spend it knitting, crocheting, cross-stitching, and doing any other handicrafts that catch her fancy.

Brilliant idea, but the execution was terrible. I know that it's a short story, but everything felt too rushed and the characters were all amazingly flat and stupid to me. It started out good and then just got progressively worse until it just hit rock bottom with me which is sad because I really wanted to like it, because as I said, the idea was brilliant.

I liked the the world building and I think this story line has a lot of potential for future stories. I also liked the characters, but they feel a bit one dimensional and I'd like to see them fleshed out a bit more. I see this as a nice intro to an interesting world and I hope the author is planning more stories.

I really enjoyed this one! It has good action with space ships, bad guys chasing after good guys, good guys on opposite sides realizing they both are maybe on the same side after all. Great chemistry. Really good world building. The only thing that could be better would be if the story was longer so all of the cool concepts could be played out better.

The perfect story? Uh, no, not even close. But it was still a well-written and fun read. Interesting world building with a few contradictions. Connor was a bit too naive but likeable all the same. And Nic, his character is a little flat but you can still picture the hard-as-stone exterior but a big old softee on the inside. This story ends on a wide open HFN and lends itself perfectly for a sequel. Hopefully that will come.

This is a well built futuristic sci-fi story. Connor is a shuttle pilot for the Democration and has been captured by rebels, led by Nic Matisse. He holds firm under questioning believing he will be tortured for what ttle he knows, but Nic's attraction to him means that he ends up reveling more about the Democration and his own links to the Democrator who runs it. Feeling unable to send Connor away to a planet where all their captured enemies are sent to live in safety, Nic returns him to the Democration - where things go from bad to worse. This is a nicely written story with a slow developing relationship between the two MC's

A nice, little sci-fi story, rather predictable (actually I've read something very similar plot-wise just a few weeks ago) and not very substantial, but still entertaining.
The characters and the world building could have been a bit more complex - and I'm not sure I really understand all of the characters' actions and behaviour. The story was rather fast-paced, though, and there was a lot going on for such a short story which made it a quick, diverting read.

Main Characters: Connor Spalding & Nic Maltisse
Key Themes: War, Kidnapping/Abduction,
Location: Outer Space

MM romance between a misguided naïve loyalist and a genius rebel leader.

This was a fun read. It’s got good world building, although the characters were a little two-dimensional and significant events just happen...conveniently.

Best of all…it’s FREE!
