LDS Fiction.

I really enjoyed this book. I thought the characters were well developed, especially the two main characters, Brooke and Greg. I think that the author brings up a lot of interesting issues surrounding second marriage after the death of a spouse. Many of them are things that I had never thought of before, but as I put myself into both Brooke's and Greg's shoes, I realized that I would have many of the same feelings.

I loved the references to voice lessons (and even got some ideas about new things I can do in my own teaching) and musical theater. Having been in Into the Woods before myself, it was fun to read about the production.

I did feel like the Christopher part of the storyline, which was hyped more on the back cover, didn't end up being super integral to the plot. I don't know if I really wanted it to be more front and center, but I did expect it to be. The kidnapping seemed a little bit non sequitur to me for this reason.

I enjoyed the characters' individual journeys through the above mentioned issues, and the way everything was resolved. Great read.

(Annette: It is somewhat weird writing a review knowing that the author will most likely read it!)

3.5. I had a hard time deciding how to rate this one! I couldn't put it down...so on that note it was excellent! It was very well written and I really liked the characters. The only reason I didn't love it was the heavy theme. There was such a sad note to the whole thing. Not to mention a kidnapping which just about made me throw the book! I made it through it and liked the ending, but it won't go on my to read again list.

This book had my attention from the start. Brooke breaks up with Christopher because things just don't seem to be right between them. He gets angry causing a car accident and in walks Greg, the police officer, who she later will meet again. In the meantime she realizes how Chris is a little on the abusive side and things don't quite add up. I thought this was a brilliant way to show you woman that a little shove could end up being a lot more.

Brooke is a school teacher who starts dating Greg and falling in love with his daughter, but can she live up to the memory of his late wife? An excellent book that you won't be able to put down! I know I was late into the night finishing it.

Loved it! This book made my heart smile! The love, faith and family values that Brooke and Greg called on to get through the difficult times in their relationship were amazing. Greg felt guilty for loving Brooke after his wife died but this beautiful story demonstrated that we were created to love and be loved! Even Angela, Greg's 7 year old daughter, knew how to work her faith and she was spared a horrendous death. I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review and honestly I loved it!

I received a coupon from the author to receive this book for free.

This book sucked me right in. I couldn't put it down because I wanted to know how it ended. It was suspenseful and romantic and based upon faith, love and commitment. Brooke quickly realizes Christopher is not the man for her and sparks fly when she meets Greg and he felt the same spark. Greg was still dealing with the guilt he felt over the loss of his wife Heather and a promise he made to her. I wanted to cry when Russell told Greg what Heather said in her last moment and it helped set Greg free to love Brooke. I loved how he proposed at the end of the story - it was fitting that he proposed to Brooke where he asked her on their first date. Angela, Greg's daughter is the sweetest little girl so full of love. I hated seeing what Christopher tried to do to her, but it was so touching of how the Holy Ghost Spirit has helped her along the way and she was able to be brave. This was a touching story and it warmed my heart.

Lost Without You is an incredible story about love, faith and commitment. Once again Annette Lyon has woven a story that instantly pulls you in and keeps you hooked until the last page. Her characters reactions and emotions are so real, they grip at your heart strings, leaving you cheering for them until end. There were so many times while I was reading this book where I felt like I was actually there and when I was forced to put it down the story stuck with me until I could get back to it. What I love most, is the real life issues that are dealt with in the story. Things that stop and make you think “Wow. That would be really hard. I wonder what I would do?” I would definitely recommend this book to anyone, but especially those who love a faith inspiring story. You most certainly will not be disappointed! Well done Annette! Well done.

Brooke is pushing 30, single, and just cut off a relationship that might have had a chance, if Christopher hadn't become so controlling and moody. Then she meets a policeman. Well, "meets" may be a strong word. She keeps bumping into this good-looking policeman--always at the most awkward times--until they finally go out on a date...and another.

As they grow closer, however, they both have their pasts to contend with, and decisions to make that will determine their futures.

Mostly predictable, with a few wildcards thrown in to change things up. Brooke's embarrassing moments meeting up with her policeman made me smile.

Brooke Williams is a fourth grade teacher who is happy with her life -- except for the fact that she has yet to find "Mr. Right." When she is forced to break up with Christopher, a man she could imagine having a future with, she's not sure where her life is headed. A new acquaintance, police officer Greg Stevens, seems nice, but he's hiding something. Will his secret prove the end of this new relationship?

I really like Annette Lyon's writing style. She writes real, believable characters with a nice strong emotional and plot arc. I really enjoyed "Lost Without You." (Review written 4/5/2005.)

The conflict Brooke has with the two men in her life has more to do with Greg's commitment to his first wife, even though she has passed away. Brooke tells Greg that the reason she first decided to break up with Christopher is because of his mother's influence on him. She wants to be the most important woman in her husband's life. Thus, setting off a whole series of emotions.

A beautiful story of letting go and moving on after the loss of a spouse and the challenges faced not only by the spouse that has been "left behind" (so to speak), but also the challenges of being the new love in their life.

Truly enjoyed my first experience with Annette Lyon's writing and highly recommend her to other readers.

Looking forward to adding more of her work to my "read" list.

Wow, I have another book to add to my list of favorites! And isn't it interesting that out of, probably, twenty top favorites, several were written by Annette Lyon. I haven't read anything of hers that I didn't LOVE! Interesting characters who were very true-to-life in a great LDS love story. It just doesn't get any better!

Wow, what a beautifully written story. As much as I loved Angela and Brooke, I can't say there is a character I didn't like in "Lost Without You". In this story of love, loss, trials and emotional struggles you get to sense the emotions yourself. Great read and recommended for all who love to read.

A really good read.

Never read Annette Lyon's books before. Sorry I waited so long to do so, and will certainly be reading a lot more in the future. This book had enough suspense in it to keep me wanting more, because I love a good mystery. Thanks for the book, Ms. Lyon.

Cute LDS romance with some humor and a lot of soul searching. However, there were a couple of things that didn't make sense. For example, if someone breaks your door down and comes at you with a gun saying he's going to kill you, why wouldn't you press charges?

This was a good story without the typical romance emphasis on "hotness" and it was nice to have older main characters instead of twenty-somethings. I can recommend this book.

Brooke Williams is nearly 30, single and living in Utah County, UT. She's hoping Christopher Morris, her "date" of the last 3 months, is Mr. Right. Chris is manic depressive though and goes off his medication. When Brooke tries to break it off, he explodes and gets in a car accident. That's when she meets police officer Greg Stevens. A widower with a young daughter, he's attracted to Brooke, but is having a hard time with the promise he made to his wife never to remarry. They go through several ups and downs, but finally work it all out after Greg is shot and nearly loses his leg. Fairly realistic and interesting.

Not so much a romance

I read novels to escape the realities of life. This one had a little too much drama for me. Spoiler alert... People getting shot attempted murder suicides and way too much death. It was a good story, and well written, but too real life for my enjoyment.

Following her breakup with her boyfriend Brooke finds herself constantly running into a police offer named Greg. They start to date but he has a secret that he eventually tells. That he has a seven year old daughter and a deceased wife. She is torn in whether to let it go further as she has a preconceived notion that she does not want to be second fiddle to any other female including to a husband’s mother. Learning that we need to take risks with our hearts.

It’s about letting go and letting love in. That we are capable of loving others and some promises are meant to be broken in the end. We cannot live in the past and need to move on and be happy again.

This book was okay. It was not at all what I expected and the climax at the end was a bit anti-climatic. Also, there were some loose ends that really bother me and I'm hoping to find out that this novel has a sequel. Other than that it was still a good story and one that kept me interested and reading until the end. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes LDS romances. However, the blurb on the the back of the book is misleading, so if you're looking for some kind of mystery or thriller or such this isn't it.

Brooke Williams decided the one man she thought she wanted was not Christopher Morris whom she had been dating for awhile. Christopher did not take the break up well and threaten anyone else she tried to date. Of course she does meet someone a police officer that is a widower. Because he had promised his deceased wife that he would not marry again there did not seem to be much of a future for them. Christopher does make good his threats so there is some action. It is interesting how this book turns out.

I very much enjoyed this book. The characters are "real", and it's not just a normal romance where the worst stress is which boyfriend for the heroine to choose. It's not the best I've read in this genre, but it's a fun, easy read--perfect for summer reading.

I liked this story because it is not the typical romance forever after novel. It is more real life addressing issues of not being married until you are older, widowing and having a child. Good book.

Picked this book up at the library this afternoon. It's a quick read. Formulaic, predictable, simple and sweet. I prefer books that are richly visual. This one was not. It was rich in dialog and lacking in visual detail.
